Be careful what you ask!

August 14th, 2014 at 9:00 am by David Farrar

Dan Carter did a Q+A session on Twitter. The asked him who he was voting for, perhaps not expecting the answer.

@ 9:14am. They’ll pretend that they would have boycotted the game, but don’t need to because Carter’s not playing.

Never ask a question that you don’t already know the answer to, isn’t it? Hmmm?

Carter wasn’t named in the latest All Black lineup due to injury, I would be surprised if he makes the All Blacks again with the injuries he’s carrying and the competition for that first-five position.

IMP twitter guy is going to need a new job.

Never ask a sportsperson their political opinion until they are retired. The sponsors don’t like it

(leaving aside the fact that a guy who values hard work, self-sacrifice and knows top teams can’t operate with flaky unreliable mercenaries is never going to answer IMP).

You’d think advisors to a far left party (particularly given rugby hating John Minto is one of their big noises), would realize an All Black is unlikely to be in their wheelhouse. It’s why social media can be deadly to politicos who are not savvy and careful. Whaleoil calls them SMOGs (Social Media Own Goals). For a supposedly new media savvy party, this was a doubly stupid SMOG.

Top bloke that DC. Spent half his youth with a footy in his hands and the other half in the cricket nets happy to bowl at grumpy old blokes 20 years his senior all afternoon long. At 13 or 14 polite, determined and striving for excellence, having fun with his mates of what ever age, no fancy academy’s, no bullshit. For this cricket tragic the knowledge that he would become what he has was evident before he hit his teens, he could have been just as good with a bat and ball.

The response from IMP was to the effect that having had the whole nation see him in his undies he had no shame left. Classy.

    How so HJ?
Until he established himself as a professional footy player he was a typical small town country kid who has lived his dreams and fulfilled his promise. How different is that to someone as equally gifted and determined getting an education and or building a high flying career in whatever? Are we in such a place now that aspiration and achievement are now seen as atypical?
