Epsom stereotype not true

August 22nd, 2014 at 1:00 pm by David Farrar

Stuff reported:

, New Zealand’s richest and whitest electorate, shows it can get down and dirty during this election campaign.

Epsom actually is below average in terms of “white” people. 73.5% of the electorate say they are European or NZer compared to 78.8% average for NZ. So not only are they not the whitest, they are not in the top 10, 20, 30 or 40. They are 47th out of 63.

Also incorrect in terms of income. Their median income is the 2nd highest in NZ, not the top.

Without national ceding the electorate to Act the electorate would attract almost no media interest.

Amazing how whitest and richest is used as an implied slur.

Will the rich white people come out with their pitchforks and demand resignations? Or just get on with their lives.

    A slight adjustment is necessary.

Fairfax, New Zealand’s most inept and biased news medium, shows it can get everything wrong during this election campaign.

Are all the journalists (what is left of them) now cadets on low pay that just swallow gossip as fact? So much that has been written or spoken in the media in the last two weeks is not news, it is speculation or hearsay masquerading as news; put out there by lazy repeaters who do not fact check. Where is the scepticism and responsibility?

    Heh Trout, good point.
Recall the PM’s media conflab yesterday (not the ersatz Campbell one)? …. He was surrounded by children, wet behind the ears children, representing various media. Their poor quality is directly linked to practical experience, which is bugger all.

Implied slur. Too right ,that’s how its meant. We’re commanded to embrace multiculturalism and worship at the altar of diversity.

The rich and white though must pay for this folly.

Where England goes we go………look how that’s worked out for them!

I know you’re quoting facts and figures here DPF, but you must be wrong, I highly doubt a Stuff reporter would make up rubbish out of thin air and publish it as a fact.

I was at that meeting. I don’t care about the ‘slur”, what I do care about is that the moderator, a media person, resorted to asking his own question at the meeting about “the right’s dirty politics”, when no-one was interested in asking the question from the audience. He went on and on about it. And on queue, the television cameras rolled.

They are trying so hard to be PC they have actually forgotten what the actual subject is,

What they are trying to say is that Epsom has the lowest proportion of Maori ( 63rd)

    Who was the moderator?

It doesn’t seem to be mentioned in the article.
