Laila supporting the sisterhood

August 13th, 2014 at 12:00 pm by David Farrar

The Herald reports:

“Obviously wanting to be fit and relatively less portly than most members of Parliament become, ‘she said diplomatically’.”

Will she name names? “I think their breasts speak for themselves.”

That comment has not impressed a few.

I’ll resist the temptation to point out the size of Laila’s funder.

It’s perfectly reasonable to want to avoid the myriad of health problems that come along with getting fat.

It’s ok to pillory people smoking on screen, for displaying poor health choices.

But our hospitals are not full of smokers. Not as many as people dealing with diet and lifestyle-related issues anyway.

I sympathise, since the dietary advice that’s been given out for the last 50 years is dead wrong. Low-fat diets are killing people.

Once they sort that out though…

Its rather amazing how something out of context can be made to look.

She was on a run, talking fitness, and like it or not – what she has said is true.

Many of our politicians from both sides of the health are physically unfit, carrying far too much weight, and are the exact demographic that costs us money in health. They are a very poor example to a society that should be getting the message to take responsibility for their own welfare, and not rely on the government to do it.

Sure, it was unwise to tell the truth during an election campaign, and of course the unfit fatties out there will be aghast that their body shape is bought into question. These are no doubt the same fatties that are appalled at the taxes they pay.

Self responsibility is a great message – its a money saving message – and its time people got over themselves, and realised that those people with fat on their chests, and around their waists, are going to cost those of use that do make some attempt to keep healthy, a lot of money.

You rant and rave and carry on over how much beneficiaries are costing us – well here’s another group that need to take some personal responsiblity!

Good on you Laila – I won’t be voting for you – but good on you for having the balls to say what no one else dares to!!

I need to add, Paula Bennett is a wonderful example – she has dropped kilos and become much fitter this year – You go Girl!! Well done!

I fully realise you don’t like the truth – you’d prefer the tax payer to allow people to sit on the fat butts, eating food that is bad for them, and consuming endless quantities of sugar filled beverages – well I’m sorry – I’m sick of paying for irresponsible selfish prats who refuse to take care of themselves, and their responsibilities.

Do you have any idea of how much our health costs are, and how big they are expected to grow with our aging population?

Like I said, if the truth hurts, then I can only presume you are one of the people my taxes are supplementing.

How can it be a veiled dig at Bennett – Paula has worked really hard this year on her fitness, she’s dropped kilos – I would suspect over 20 of them. She’s looking fit, her complexion has improved greatly – she is doing exceptionally well and is a great role model to other women who struggle with weight. I believe she is also a force to be reckoned with fitness wise now and hopes to get even fitter. She’s looking good!

And yes, there are plenty of MP’s on both sides of the house that need to start setting an example. – a good one, for a change would be great!

If you want to get context correct, looking at the part of the article where Laila talks about makeup:

The former Cabinet minister greets me in black lycra leggings, fancy running shoes and a Rotorua marathon shirt. I tell the uncompromising left-leaning unionist a photographer is arriving shortly.

“I don’t usually wear makeup running but I’d better put on foundation,” she says, disappearing.

So from that, I read that Laila does usually wear makeup, just not when running.

Her faux outrage over the PM’s comments, the support for the f you JK chant – the only air time Silent is getting is saying this sort of stuff has no place in politics. Which probably has the effect of increasing his popularity and reducing his gaffes but IMP is choking Labour’s airtime.
