Over at The Standard they are delighted with this video. The Left don’t get humour. They really don’t realise how this will win votes for John Key. They think the comments are true. They are so far off the mark that no one takes it seriously and thus it ends up simply glorifying John Key

Maybe they could do one of Cunliffe, in a nice consultant’s suit, obviously composited onto backdrops of poor people, in faux old-style monochrome. The fake look would emphasise its authenticity.

They might have to go to Bangladesh or North Korea to find real backdrops of grinding poverty – but again I think that would add to the authentic Cunliffe style. Maybe the China factory where his iPhone is made…?

Might as well include that Greens guy climbing out of a wind turbine – and composite in a background of Baotou China where they mine the neodymium to make those green toys.

This piece is a good example of what we used to call ‘Undergraduate Humour”

Crudely constructed, in-your-face, persisting despite the message being immediately apparent in over-stated terms, with all the impact of a floating cobweb.

And the lasting effect on – at least – this observer?

Its that, clearly, John Key and what he stands for must pose a real threat to these guys if they go to these lengths – pathetic and juvenile though they are – to try to denigrate him and the Nats.

Keep it for Uni Rag Day, boys!!

Very clever. Love the Cameron Slater cameo as “Slug”.

One technical point – at the beginning it shows high school aged John next to an old Christchurch red bus but in the distinctive black and white striped Christ College blazer and tie whereas John went to the coed state school Burnside High (at the same time I did – I don’t remember him) and Burnside’s blazer back then was a solid mid to dark green with same coloured tie.
