Uncovering that hid in plain sight

August 24th, 2014 at 9:00 am by David Farrar

Stuff reports:

A new politician has been dragged into the saga of Donghua Liu’s funding of political parties.

National’s Coromandel MP Scott Simpson received a $5000 donation from the controversial Chinese-born property developer for his 2011 election campaign, after meeting Liu about 10 times, including a couple of dinner dates.

The donation was declared in Simpson’s post-election return, and has been uncovered by the Sunday Star-Times during a forensic trawl of donations to MPs.

The donation was declared in 2012. It has been sitting on the Electoral Commission website for a couple of years. There was nothing to uncover.

And I presume a “forensic trawl” is a fancy name for going to the Electoral Commission website and reading the returns online.

Sunday Star Times hacks secret Government web site to discover dodgy donations. The public must know the truth and Simpson must resign./ sarc
The MSM are truly pathetic. The good thing is we all see through it and the tribalism which infects the Left.

    What an amazing discovery!!

Sounds to me like the Illustrious and Invincible HMNZS Co-Boat has just returned from a two day deep sea sonar and forensic survey of the bottom in the Thames Estuary.

Nothing was found except a notice board on the jetty when they returned warning them of a bag limit of two oversized paua per person with a publically listed website that gives them more info if required.

(Of course the Green Party are exempt from bag limits as these are simply tools to prevent over fishing by greedy capitalists)

By the way how long has it taken for them to find this and dream up another crisis that dosn’t exist just so they can keep another dead story alive till the fat German mascarading as whale dump gives them more one sided stolen emails for them to salivate over .

The SST has three ‘skilled’ and unbiased ‘reporters’ working on this ‘breaking’ story!
ADAM DUDDING, MATT OGILVIE, HAMISH RUTHERFORD

David Fisher, the top reporter at the New Zealand Hamas, will pick this up and run with it.
He has ‘uncovered’ all the other ‘big’ stories in the last two weeks.

Would have been a real story if the cub reporter from that almost redundant Sunday Paper ,had unearthed Cunliffes secret trust and fuelled by anonymous secret donors.Maybe the cub reporter could ask a certain well known femalew legal eagle, whats her take on it.Hmmmm now that would be asking.

    “forensic trawl”

Newspaper version of slow mo and spooky music. John Campbell would be proud. It makes something up front sound dishonest and dodgy – why they do it. They have an agenda. As long as they make no noise about Cunliffe’s secret trusts and where Hones half a mill have gone I wont waste my money on their litter tray liner.

Just another example of the skewed bias taken as “honest reporting” by the apparently increasingly obsolete big-media agencies.

“Uncovered” implies that it was “hidden”, with its implications of devious concealment – the reality is that the SST took 2 years to get off their fat backsides to bother to look at the public register. Not only are they slow and dumb, they are lazy too.

This is further proof that smaller, more nimble and more accurate media voices – with any bias overt and declared, will be the media model of the future. We will watch the dinasours of the MSM follow their inevitable path to extinction – and it will be good riddance, we will all be better informed and better off without them.

No, “forensic” means looking for evidence to fit your preconceived idea, and ignoring evidence that doesn’t fit that – i.e. any Labour candidate donations

I would agree in that arrogance, bullying and lying are undesirable. However, where we differ is a double standard based upon the amount of power we have. It’s either wrong or it isn’t (in my view). And if Hager is effectively lying and manipulating though the selective release of private emails, then I oppose that too.

I just can’t get over that sentence. That’s worth the cancellation of whatever journalistic qualifications the writer might have right there.

In fact, even thinking this is a story is an indictment on their judgement. So it’s just tiresome and anti-democratic anti-National bias.
