I should clarify (for the record) that I’m not trying to get you into trouble with the Law Society. So, by all means, only comment to the extent that you feel able to do so.

I think the prohibition in rule 14.4 and the permitted exceptions in rules 14.6 to 14.8 are unambiguous. I certainly don’t see any room for a “prior retainer exception” to operate.

Ellis can easily get around this by arranging for instructions to come, not from Smith directly, but from a person who (unlike Smith) holds a practising certificate as a barrister and solicitor.

But, as you perhaps imply, that’s a matter that the Law Society might want to take up with Ellis directly…

I appreciate that I have only just dropped my pseudonym, but if you are so well known, why keep up a pretence? I also considered my pseudonym not particularly anonymous, especially as hints were made about my private business and hints at my business having been visited ‘anonymously’.

My rationale was that he who I consider the biggest scum on here already knew who I was so what the hell.

I have found it incredibly liberating, I recommend it.

I thought it was interesting to see on the News tonight a clip showing Putin strolling along close behind Xi Jinping, demonstrating the geopolitical reality as opposed in stark contrast to the Western MSM meme, of where Putin is at, in the international community.

Most Westerners sadly are rapidly approaching the profound ignorance of the average American, who couldn’t even point out Iraq on a world map.

Sad because they don’t need to be ignorant. They choose to be.

Don’t make the mistake of falling in to his “I am a victim” trap. He love to play that card, it makes him the centre of attention which (as you have already worked out) he craves more than anything else.

If you ignore him he becomes more and more irritated, and abusive. He wants a reaction, when he gets it he is then able to feign hurt and play the victim card.

Nasska: I used to have great sport with the Greens in debate…reminding them – as if they didn’t know – that the European Greens are all in favour of nuclear energy…Cue much spluttering from Mad Cath, and a stream of multi-syllable words from Kennedy “the Undertaker” Graham about how OUR Greens are separate and distinct from the Euro version…At which I would always point out that one of the differences is that the Euro Greens have been in positions of power!

Nasska: earthquakes aren’t a problem for Gen4 walk-away passively safe reactors that will shut down reaction and use natural convection to cool itself in event of any disaster, control system or pump failures or electricity cut-out. For comparison Fukishima were 50 year old Generation2 designs without passive safety (needed water pumps to run. and overheated when water leaked out)

Molten salts reactors have extra advantage of operating at atmospheric pressure so no huge pressurised water nuclear reactor vessels that operate at 150x atmospheric pressure (similar to scuba tank). If the uranium fluoride salt gets too hot it expands and slows the reaction, and if that is insufficient or if power fails then extra heat melts a refrigerated plug of salt that leads to a drain tank where the salt cannot attain criticality due to absence of any moderator rods. Also the fluoride salt doesn’t burn or chemically react with air, metals, dirt or water (other than boiling water off due to heat)

Once developed they will be <$0.05/kWh to operate, and compact lightweight truck-transportable reactor vessels should make them cheap and fast to build.

Marxism is little studied in the economics departments, or even the politics departments, of modern universities, but it dominates cultural, media and literary studies. (Freud, not much studied in the medical/psychology arena, is also a cultural studies favourite).

Yet it is the Frankfurt School, rather than Marx and Engels, who set the agenda. Marxism without the grubby and frustratingly reactionary working class, without the vanguard of the proletariat, and without the dictatorship of the proletariat either (in fact as little of the proletariat as possible please).

Marxism not as a revolutionary agenda but a tool of criticism. Marxism-lite for the middle class, assimilated first at university and then informing (as they would put it) the media and bureaucracy that those students then go on to work in.

Not a conspiracy perhaps but certainly a process. It marks one as being observant and having the ability to think critically, not a “conspiracy theorist” to point out that Cultural Marxism is real and the default position of the mainstream media and the “main” political parties.

See, what they do is setup institutions and appointments that achieve their objectives over time, all the while disguised in the politically correct poison camouflage they operate behind. For this makes it difficult for Joe and Jane Public to object to as slice by slice, they strip away the life we used to have and replace it with their evil design.

The institution in this Smith case is the Privacy Commission. This institute occupies hundreds of civil servants in dozens of govt depts and ties them in knots preparing submission after submission after submission seeking permission to share this and that data with this and that dept and the process is labyrinthian and always results in a watered down result, because, you see, if the Privacy Commission’s staff didn’t water it down, why, they simply wouldn’t be doing their job, would they.

Another example of this evil in motion is how Hulun ditched the PC and appointed a senior Sisterhood representative as CJ. That’s not so relevant here and now, but it’s relevant in the context of Franks’ article I gave above.

That’s how they do it, and of course they didn’t do it with Smith in particular in mind, and of course all the people who work in the Privacy Commission believe in and honestly do, their job. They just don’t realise the true purpose of their job.

I used that in many speeches on the campaign trail in 2008, and was never called on it…

I’ve read quite a lot of the info on Tesla you have linked to over the years Reid. I’m neither a convert nor a sceptic.

But meantime if any reasonable alternative to energy poverty is offered to NZ I’m certainly not dismissing it out of hand.

PG: Yes, I have heard that “trade implications” argument…frankly with China now being our biggest market, and CER with Australia, I don’t think it holds much water…especially since most of the world disagrees on what to do about this “climate change”

Which just leaves PG’s “trade implications”…If anyone really thinks the Chinese will decide how much milk solids to buy from us depending on what we do or don’t do about that half a drop of greenhouse gas emissions I will politely say that person is very naïve and knows nothing of Chinese history…

Nasska: Actually I beg to differ…in fact Rutherford is on record as saying that anyone who thought vast amounts of energy could be harnessed from nuclear fission must believe in “moonshine” (not the sort you drink I assume)

Tesla was very clever on some things but also had some odd ideas. He supported eugenics and disagreed with Einstein’s theory of relativity. And he seems to have been off the mark with his atomic claims.

…he disagreed with the theory of atoms being composed of smaller subatomic particles, stating there was no such thing as an electron creating an electric charge (he believed that if electrons existed at all, they were some fourth state of matter or “sub-atom” that could only exist in an experimental vacuum and that they had nothing to do with electricity).

Tesla believed that atoms are immutable—they could not change state or be split in any way. He was a believer in the 19th century concept of an all pervasive “ether” that transmitted electrical energy.

But he seemed to understand science versus religion:

There is no conflict between the ideal of religion and the ideal of science, but science is opposed to theological dogmas because science is founded on fact. To me, the universe is simply a great machine which never came into being and never will end. The human being is no exception to the natural order.

Man, like the universe, is a machine. Nothing enters our minds or determines our actions which is not directly or indirectly a response to stimuli beating upon our sense organs from without. Owing to the similarity of our construction and the sameness of our environment, we respond in like manner to similar stimuli, and from the concordance of our reactions, understanding is born.

In the course of ages, mechanisms of infinite complexity are developed, but what we call “soul” or “spirit,” is nothing more than the sum of the functionings of the body. When this functioning ceases, the “soul” or the “spirit” ceases likewise.

What happened to his energy source?

Just reading Official Secret by Clayton Hutton, 1961-62 fascinating book as he devised the escape devices sent to ww2 POW’s’s in parcels and which a lot of the RAF took with them on sortees in case of being unexpectedly in a foreign land and foreign hands.
Only one Library copy in all of NZ yet he devised the silk maps, the button compasses and so much more, clever, clever man.

He states that he considered that there was a duty to escape and cause bother behind the lines in ww2 that did not exist in ww1, so he set about making it easier.

It is not about overall emissions it is two measures
emissions GDP and emissions per capita
if you read European press there is already talk about food miles.
a kiwi fruit from nz burns its weight in oil to get to market.
Consumers are being encouraged to consider such facts when purchasing this movement will continue to grow.
As is the push to move away from investment into the oil industry
we can chose to not change.
if we do we will be ostracized by those who do.

China is leading the charge on expanding renewable capacity. At the end of last year, China had installed a whopping 378GW of renewable energy capacity – about a quarter of renewables capacity installed worldwide, and over seven times Australia’s entire grid-connected power capacity. China continues to work towards ambitious capacity targets for 439GW of renewables by 2015 and 900GW by 2020.

We are being left behind.

Jarrod Gilbert’s posted seems contradictory. He claims that the Government and DPF were playing dirty politics using erroneous data, but Fisher’s article says the police gave them the erroneous data. His implication that they deliberately used bad data to justify a policy and that it was Dirty Politics is not substantiated.

It should be, but that may be ignored because Gilbert has chosen to spend most of his post claiming he is a victim of ‘Dirty Politics’ and continues attacks on ‘Right Wing blogger David Farrar’ despite DPF apologising and strongly denying accusations that Gilbert continues to make.

Gilbert asks a valid question on the very end of his post…

And, given Cabinet documents reveal that the incorrect data were not just used to justify the government’s policy but were the very basis for creating it, should the policy be reevaluated now the problem is so vastly different to what the government was originally led to believe?

…but that is muddied because Jarrod Gilbert overplays “Dirty Politics’

Many years ago TV1 had a 26 week series of WW1 called the Great War. I was quite young at the time, but the horrors of this war were there for all to see. If TVNZ still has this film in their archives a re-run would show New Zealanders what our troops had to endure. There was no glorifying this war. I am sure I am not the only one who watched this series.
