Actually Johnboy I have a $100 voucher for the Lighthouse that expires May next year – real estate agent gave it to me for the house sale but on the night we went, my last night in Eastbourne they had a pvte function and we couldn’t use it. It’s no use to me, you interested?

Discernment between good and evil is an inbuilt human ability.

Haven’t you heard of Christian gifts Lucia. Discernment is one. And it’s the specific ability to understand spiritual machinations.

No, I haven’t. For the sole reason that every act of evil that is not forgiven reduces capacity to choose to do good in the future. Christianity is all about God coming down to earth to make sure we can be forgiven, so we can being again with a new heart.

In response to the WSJ article by Joseph Bast and Roy Spencer posted earlier inveighing against climate change .

Here below is a comprehensive , nuanced and detailed rebuttal. I’ve included the first two paragraphs that details ,amongst many things just who the WSj contributors are . Very important as it provides much needed context and perspective as to their real qualifications and capabilities as well as agenda on a most important and complex issue ,

WSJ’s shameful climate denial: The scientific consensus is not a myth
97% of scientists agree that man-made climate change is happening, and a transparent Op-Ed fails to argue otherwise

“Climate change is a tricky subject to talk about: It’s a large, complex scientific issue that’s both difficult to grasp in full and extremely important for the public to understand. In our shorthand for making sense of it, one statistic is often thrown about: 97 percent of scientists agree that man-made climate change is happening. Yet a big, impressive-looking Op-Ed in the Wall Street Journal asserts the number is a “myth.” WSJ’s claim is wrong, of course, but where its authors fail to debunk a popular meme, they also manage to make a much more insidious, and radical, argument.

First things first, we should be extremely skeptical of any argument this article is trying to make, even despite its appearance in the hallowed pages of the Journal. It’s bylined, after all, by two prominent climate deniers: The first, Joseph Bast, is identified as the president of the Koch-affiliated Heartland Institute, a veritable machine of climate denial, with the implicit mission statement of sowing confusion and dissent about accepted science. (For another standout example of Bast’s opinion writing, try this 1998 editorial asserting that smoking, in moderation, has “few, if any, adverse health effects.”) The Op-Ed’s other author is Roy Spencer, “a principal research scientist for the University of Alabama in Huntsville and the U.S. Science Team Leader for the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer on NASA’s Aqua satellite” and official Heartland expert. Spencer’s academic credentials, a rarity among climate deniers, lend weight to his arguments despite the fact that both his work and financial motivations have been repeatedly called into question. Bast and Spencer are motivated to debunk the 97 percent “myth” because they have a vested interest, via their affiliation with Heartland, in getting the public to believe that the scientists are a lot less certain about the reality of man-made climate change than they actually are….”

I’ve always been nice to Catholic girls on the first date as I realise the hangups they suffer from.

I’ve always found they become more laid back once they get their ankles behind their ears! 🙂

Then why did you make your 8.28 which appeared to indicate in the context of my 8.17 you know nothing of them?

Those with the best gifts tend to be the most humble.

They’re God’s gifts Lucia, therefore they’re all perfect, therefore they’re all “best.” The flaws come in to the extent people understand them and use them. Like I said, it takes discernment and like I said, most don’t have that gift and even most of those who do, don’t use it properly, including me. But at least I try to use it, unlike many with it.

Please don’t make the mistake many make about my style, which is to conflate arrogance with matter of fact delivery. I just say what I mean and I don’t gild the lily and I don’t sugercoat it, either. To many this comes across as arrogance, to which I respond: who cares, and so what. That’s your perception not my reality so I don’t care and why should I?

Most arrogant people display little empathy, little compassion and little subtlety. Of course I wouldn’t claim myself I have those qualities, that would be arrogant. But if you are discerning, you might search for those qualities in my comments and make up your mind if they’re there or not. That’s what I do with yours, and everyone elses.

No reason is given of course. One day you find you just cannot comment. You can go back on if you lick his arse. They can get stuffed. The one sided progressive arse licking will ultimately bring the blog down in the end.

DPF might be a pinko progressive Nat but he is libertarian enough to allow dissent and a bit of humorous biffo. More power to KB for that.
