“I watched Phil Goff outrageously accuse the Director of the SIS of lying, and he can dance on the head of a pin in saying he never maligned the integrity of Dr Tucker, but he did, and so I thought to myself, he’s the Leader of the Opposition, he must have been briefed, so I created an Official Information request, and I submitted that request.Now what happened is that at the same time I was submitting that request, Jason Ede was on the phone to me saying “Don’t do this. I don’t want you to put this in. We don’t want you to put the Official Information Act Request in.” And I basically told him to sling his hook and pressed SEND.

Further I think you may find the Gwyn Report makes no reference to any initial contact but records Ede was on the phone to Slater at the time he sent the email OIA. It does nothing to explain what was discussed, just that the times co-incided.

YOU introduced Cuba, and didn’t make any mention of a boycott, or it’s relevance to China, so your reply was indeed obscure. You didn’t actually make the point until after your criticism of my deficient intellect and lack of knowledge.

You are changing tack, Yvette. You started by alleging that the PM’s staff were only helping Slater because that’s what they were obliged to do under the law.
Now you want to make an argument about something else, which I don’t care about.

Crying crocodile tears! No sympathy. An awful crime. He thought he was a Big man beating up an old and defenseless couple! Who does that? You’d have to be pretty cold hearted.
There is no way a man in his 80’s would be a threat to a young and agile 17 year old, let alone the old woman. My parents are this age and would be totally helpless in the face of an aggressive attack.
A good long stint in prison where he belongs…

My original comment suggested IF the Prime Minister’s Office staff assisted Slater, it need not necessarily be outside the Ombudsman Office recommendations.

Slater has always claimed he worded the information request himself. The request is in the Report and is not all that tricky.

I am not changing tack, just saying there was what seems to be a reasonable explanation for Slater being on the phone to Ede, concurrent to sending his OIA email. I just thought that may be your next point, but apparently not.

Cam Slater has said when they were on the phone that Jason Ede was trying to dissuade him from submitting the IOA at the time.

So I doubt Ede was helping him with the wording of his submission. LP spin…

Of course Tucker fiddled things a bit and if the PMs Office became aware of that, they could well have considered it better not to make the deal of it the Slater was going to.

I also ‘cold-called’ Crown Law to find out what was happening with the John Banks ‘retrial’.

Crown Law are still considering the matter and probably won’t have a decision until after January 2015.

They are well aware of the public interest in this case.

Haven’t heard from JB for a while Nasska, with all this rain we hope hes not stuck in a creek somewhere trying to retrieve sheep, but then again he could have dusted off the gold card and taken the ole sheila into town for a second honeymoon perhaps ?

The ‘party political’ Office of the Prime Minister’ – whose role it is to look after John Key’s butt as Leader of the National Party – should have had NOTHING to do with the SIS – end of story.

The ‘party political’ Office of the Prime Minister, should have NOTHING to do with answering OIA requests – that is the job of the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC).

The role of the Office of the Prime Minister is not covered by statute, regulation, protocols or procedures, and in my considered opinion, is completely out of control.

When we have a Prime Minister who has come from Wall Street, with its similar lack of rules and regulations, how on earth can it be expected that the ‘highest ethical standards’ will be exhibited and maintained?

errr….. I think you’ll find Reid, that I had not discovered Kiwiblog at the time Helen Clark was Prime Minister – back in 2008.

The fact that both yourself and Nincompoop are both in a gumming frenzy over my last comment, is an excellent sign that I am on the right track.

In my considered opinion, the ‘party political’ Office of the Prime Minister, is completely out of control, should NOT be having ANYTHING to do with the SIS, should NOT be dealing with OIA replies, and its role and operation needs to be covered by STATUTE, protocols and procedures.

And, in my considered opinion, the investigation by the Inspector-General of Intelligence and Security, Cheryl Gwyn, should have included the role of the Office of the Prime Minister.

Which it did NOT, although I for one specifically requested that the scope of her investigation cover this issue.

In failing to do do, I believe that this investigation was fatally flawed.
