Interesting watching the Sky UK ‘debates’ between Miliband and Cameron / Paxman (allegedly Cameron wouldn’t debate head to head) in the context of tonight’s by election in Northland.

Looking at this and the British newspapers as I do, I think UK voters are clearly deeply dissatisfied with Cameron’s failure to grasp the nettle on a range of fundamental issues, which I believe is the same scenario here. The government won’t change there, or be significantly altered here despite either outcome –

But I believe the Tory’s move into the centre left has exposed them dangerously to UKIP and the exact same is repeated here with Peters / Conservatives. Too late for Cameron, not too late for Key.

I feel sorry for both leaders in a way, they are like a sole earner in a family that refuses to address its budget, having to work ever harder and harder!

Felt Cameron explained himself pretty well though. Very articulate especially with the questions. Miliband – well it’s easy to be in opposition isn’t it. You can promise the world.

I love job listings like – dental assistant. We’d prefer someone who speaks Mandarin / Chinese because we’re all f$#kin Chinese and so are most of are patients.

Oh yeah ? They just happen to all be from one stick together little ethnic enclave, yah ? The Chinese dental surgery. Don’t worry, we can provide you with English speaking translators for outsiders. If you really must be non-Chinese and still insist on choosing us – hahahahaha.

In response to Viking2. This is a true story, happened to a friend of mine. She was in the kitchen cooking dinner when her 11 year old suddenly said “mum, what does virgin mean”. Mum hadn’t been expecting that question but thought she handled it very well, answering honestly and completely. Daughter replied “that’s really weird”. Mum said “why, what’s weird about it”. Daughter replied “this butter says it’s made with extra virgin olive oil”.

The gateway Pundit describes itself:

Today The Gateway Pundit is a leading right-of-center news website. The Gateway Pundit has 4-5 million visits (Sitemeter) each month and is read by over 600,000 individual readers. It is consistently ranked as one of the top political blogs in the nation.

RationalWiki sees it a bit differently.

The Gatewood Pundit is a hard-right website that spends most of the day complaining about Barack Obama and liberals. It is a fairly popular blog, allegedly getting 4-5 million views each month, once again proving that being popular doesn’t necessarily make you right.

Since it’s basically just another blog that keeps in line with a radical right point of view, you probably know the drill by now.
– Godwin’s law invoked on Obama (surprise surprise) and the Daily Mail cited as a credible source.
– Godwin’s law also invoked on environmentalists, because trying to do something about global warming is a “Fascistic/Statist (ie, Progressive) power grab”. The site in general is consistent on its global warming denialism.
– Pushing Birtherism, mainly through just asking questions combined with appeal to authority, but sometimes they’re more direct about it. Obama may also be a member of the Muslim Brotherhood.
– Red-baiting, because they don’t realize the Cold War is over.
– Gun nuttery, such as claiming that universal background checks will lead to Stalin-like tyranny.
– Pandering to homophobes.

The top rated comments give us a good idea of who the site attracts.

I too followed the link to the Gateway Pundit site and it looks like a bunch of unsubstantiated claims to me. I think the people who run it are raving lunatics. Just because some mad Muslims thanked this bastard on Facebook or wherever, it doesn’t mean he was a Muslim convert.

Undoubtedly Islam is a threat to civilisation… but we can’t blame them for everything evil in the world. Sometimes shit just happens.

From a propaganda perspective it’s interesting looking at the comments on that Gateway Pundit piece.

One thing that propaganda does is simply to state a lie as if it was merely the truth that everyone of course knows without question. It doesn’t matter what the lie is, everytime you mention it you simply talk about it as if it’s a plain as day fact that is just common knowledge.

This is how they’ve done Egypt, Libya, Syria, Ukraine and the other colour revolutions. The media simply from the very first time they mention the conflict then every single time thereafter use keywords like “insurgents” or “rebels” or “separatists” to describe one side and a different set of keywords to describe the other. The way this works is the evil ones apart from owning all the retail news outlets also of course own the newswires and they just put those keywords into all the announcements on the issue that places like Reuters and Associated Press publish and the people at the retail outlets just do what all repeaters do and just pass it on, verbatim. Easy.

Reason I mention it is because once you know what to look for it’s really really obvious but if you don’t know what you’re looking at then by the 10’th time you’ve heard side “x” described in a certain way your subconscious has already picked whether they’re the goodies or the badies and by the 100th time you’ve heard the same thing no amount of facts or logic will shake you from your firm determination, whatever that may be.

I’m just using the labels as examples, it’s all a rich tapestry and I’m just showing you some individual threads – it’s not just labels, there are other things used too – but the use of propaganda techniques like this is how come many of you are firmly ensconced in your views on those conflicts. (Because guess what – they tie it to emotion. That’s why logic doesn’t shift it once its ensconced. The key to avoiding propaganda is avoiding becoming emotional about it. But that’s another story.)

On this German crash what interests me about those comments is that just like many have preformed subconscious views on the various regime change ops undertaken in the ME, so many (following 911), also have similarly formed views on Muslims. And you can see those coming through in the comments. e.g. the pre-formed view that as soon as one converts to Islam why naturally the very first thing you’re going to do is go out and try to commit mass murder. That just goes without saying.

Now that’s bizarre, isn’t it. And no-one would come up with that view on their own. But that’s the power of propaganda. It inculcates things that don’t even seem abnormal to people influenced by it. And they don’t even know they’ve been influenced.

Propaganda was how Hitler changed the German people who were the most cultured and civilised people in Europe at the time into what they became, and it’s how Western people are being changed now as we speak, into becoming a people prepared to take on the entire Muslim world, for crimes we imagine they have committed, but they really haven’t.

In the 30’s there were many warnings about what was going to happen but many (most) simply didn’t believe it would be possible. While some left for the US, others stayed because they believed that their neighbours were nice to them and ” what could go wrong”. Their lack of imagination of what people are capable of doomed them.

It appears todays progressives have a similar lack of imagination.

Reid, military aircraft designers and planners naturally will take into account factors of performance versus a rival model and that is not I would the exclusive preserve of the USAF and the Pentagon war mongers who “blindly lead Europe and USSA into a conflict with Russia over a piece of dirt …etc ”

I would think Sukhoi and the Kremlin would be blindly foolish not to design and build an aircraft that has not been wargammed etc against its US and other rivals .

The German people weren’t idiots you know. No, that’s not what happened.

Goebbels used various arguments on the people to gradually gradually slice the elephant over time, to turn them. And he knew they would always need a rationale, some kernel around which to construct the lie. And of course the best lies have some truth in them. One of the main ones he used was the argument that the utter tragedy which befell the German people after WWI was due to the Jews. And there was some truth to this if you understand history. But the lie part was Goebbels fails to mention that the US Jews who convinced Wilson to enter the war were the ones and the only ones responsible for Germany’s tragedy post-war, the Jew on the street had nothing to do with that. Goebbels kind of glossed over that bit and the rest is history.

And in the same sense now, you and those who think like you are falling for the same trick. Fact is, Muslim terrorists are the ones responsible for what we see today. (Actually it’s the invisible evil ones who stand behind them who are but that’s another story.) And just like the Jews who convinced Wilson to go to war were a tiny fraction of the total Jewish population, so these terrorists and their financiers etc are also, a tiny fraction of the Muslim population. But the propaganda isn’t making that distinction, so consequently you haven’t been, either.

All your comments on Muslims are laced with this lumping together of every single Muslim as if inside every single one of them there’s a latent terrorist just waiting to spring out. And this is exactly how the German people came to view their Jewish neighbours, as if every single one of them were directly responsible for the pain and horror of the post-WWI years.

That’s what’s happening mate, writ large across the entire Western population, in every Western country, that’s what millions if not billions of you, are all doing, just like those Germans did. All based on a lie, with a kernal of truth.

Second point is as we know, the PNAC is all about finding America’s place as the world’s ONLY superpower following the dissolution of the USSR.

Now the US has two choices: go quietly into the sunset like the UK did, or go down kicking and screaming and drag everyone down with you. So far it’s obviously chosen the latter course.

This is China’s century and Russia and China are going to be this century’s US and UK. Moscow and Shanghai are going to become London and NY respectively. Russia is going to be the energy exporter and China the manufacturer. And the neocons know this and are acting to prevent it. And if you’ve got a messianic view like the above, where you really truly think that God is on your side and you really truly think that God wants you to lead the US to victory over this otherwise expected outcome, then you get what we see around us today, in terms of how the neocons are behaving. VICTIM: Jill Meagher vanished after a night out with workmates. She was later found in a shallow grave.

An Australian Catholic Church official has apologised after a priest told parishioners that had murdered Melbourne woman Jill Meagher’s faith been stronger, she would have been “home in bed” and not walking down a street on the night she was brutally raped and killed.

The controversial homily was reportedly delivered during an end-of-term service at St Christopher’s Primary School in Airport West on Friday when the priest held up a newspaper article with an image of Meagher’s killer, Adrian Bayley.

Radio station 3AW reported that the priest made the comments to an audience of about 100 people, saying that if Meagher had been “more faith-filled”, she “would have been home in bed” and “not walking down Sydney Road at 3am”.

Bayley raped and killed Meagher in September 2012. He was sentenced to life in prison, with a minimum term of 35 years.

Maybe relative wealth is a secondary factor. Those who are better off are usually better educated themselves & are more likely to expect that their offspring follow suit.

But more importantly the well off tend not to breed like rats & therefore have time to devote to their kids’ education & individual development.

Children who have to fight for a seat in the family mini bus start from well back in the field.

Maybe I just buck the trend. I was bit a rebel as a teenager. Got a scholarship to my secondary school and changed school because they didn’t give me all the subjects I wanted to do. Left at the end of sixth form because I didn’t see the point of seventh. Got bored of university because I was learning more as a trainee programmer and being paid.

My mum had a degree, btw. Dad didn’t, but was a highly skilled toolmaker. He’d be given an object that the firm wanted to make, and he’d design and make the factory parts that could manufacture the thing.

But back to the wealth vs parental time & attitudes.

You have mentioned that you have two sons & from what you write you devote a lot of time to their education. If you had nine kids you would have less time in total & it would be split nine ways instead of two.

That makes a huge difference. Effectively, overbreeding by one generation can adversely affect the next.

Unfortunately Tahuei, haven’t got the time to sit around for the beers after golf anymore – other commitments and all…..

Out the door at 7am, tee off 7.30 (something magical about that time of day although the grass is a bit dewey but because no-one is in front, holding us up, and we play quick, the round is finished in 3hrs 15 mins. (We all have carry bags which speeds up play considerably)

Pure bliss and I’ve got the rest of the day free.
