Auckland rates up 6.5%

The Herald reports:

The average family will have to find an extra $200 a year from July to pay for Mayor Len Brown's latest budget plan.

Mr Brown sprang a surprise on councillors yesterday by announcing a special “transport levy” that equates to an extra 4 per cent on from July. The levy is $99 for households and $159 for businesses.

It is on of an overall rates increase of 2.5 per cent, which is down from the previous figure of 3.5 per cent.

So a 6.5% increase in rates, when is just 0.1%.

That's what happens when a Council can't control its .

How many households will have a salary increase of 6.5%? Almost none. So means a drop is disposable income.

I'd hate to be an incumbent Councillor votes for this at the 2016 elections.
