Campbell turned down being one of two talking heads and quit… interesting.. Suppose he is not committed to crusading as he seemed….. Prediction: He will pop up again in a more investigatvie once a week programme slot somewhere on TV1 in about 12 months when he gets bored with doing op-eds on the Daily Blog and sipping lattes at his favourite Grey Lynn cafe.

John: get your runners on and train up for a role as a half back in the local masters/president rugby team….

“Campbell has rejected the chance to co-host a revamped version of his TV show and quit Mediaworks, the company says.

According to the 3News website, Group Head of News Mark Jennings said Campbell was asked to co-host the show, which will have two presenters, but has decided to leave the company”

Problem with axing Campbell is that with his name recognition there is a good chance he will show up in politics, NZ does not need charismatic leftie politicians to screw things up worse than they already are.

Paul filibuster disrupts Senate endgame

The Senate’s frenzied efforts to finish work on controversial trade and national security legislation are being complicated by a Rand Paul filibuster launched Wednesday.

Sen. Paul’s (R-Ky.) filibuster hampers the GOP-led Senate’s efforts to pass the big-ticket items before the Memorial Day recess. The new twist in this week’s Senate deliberations is a huge test for Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), who is a Paul ally.

Aides say fast-track and a short-term extension of surveillance authority likely have the votes to pass the upper chamber. But the Senate might not have enough time to get the bills done over the next couple of days.

Furthermore, key provisions of the Patriot Act expire June 1, and lawmakers are not scheduled to return to Washington before then. The House, meanwhile, is expected to leave town Thursday.

House GOP leaders note they have passed an NSA reform bill, which is backed by most congressional Democrats and President Obama. McConnell and other Senate Republicans strongly oppose it.

Senate Democrats, who have been extremely divided over trade this month, have shifted strategies. Instead of focusing on fast-track, they are now talking much more about NSA reform — which has pitted Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) against McConnell.

What’s your source for saying Turing was a secular humanist? The link you gave says Turing became an atheist about age 18 when his friend died.

Are all atheists humanists? The definitions of what a humanist believes vary a fair bit I’ve found in a Google search. Does it merely mean if you are both an atheist and a decent person, then you are a secular humanist? If so, how do you define “decent person”?

TPPA Ministerial Reported Cancelled, Time to Put the Deal Out of its Misery

‘The reported cancellation of the planned meeting of the twelve trade ministers in Guam, billed as an “endgame” for the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA), is another nail in the coffin of a deal that has been on life support for several years’, says University of Auckland Professor Jane Kelsey.

Japanese media have quoted government officials saying the meeting scheduled for 26 to 28 May will not proceed and their delegation has cancelled its reservation, although there has been no formal statement to that effect.

Professor Kelsey called for Trade Minister Tim Groser to confirm the situation and what will now happen to the troubled negotiations.

‘The two massive obstacles to the conclusion of this deal have become inter-twined.’

You may have heard of the Libor scandal, in which at least three – and perhaps as many as 16 – of the name-brand too-big-to-fail banks have been manipulating global interest rates, in the process messing around with the prices of upward of $500 trillion (that’s trillion, with a “t”) worth of financial instruments.

When that sprawling con burst into public view last year, it was easily the biggest financial scandal in history – MIT professor Andrew Lo even said it “dwarfs by orders of magnitude any financial scam in the history of markets.”

That was bad enough, but now Libor may have a twin brother. Word has leaked out that the London-based firm ICAP, the world’s largest broker of interest-rate swaps, is being investigated by American authorities for behavior that sounds eerily reminiscent of the Libor mess.

Regulators are looking into whether or not a small group of brokers at ICAP may have worked with up to 15 of the world’s largest banks to manipulate ISDAfix, a benchmark number used around the world to calculate the prices of interest-rate swaps.

Interest-rate swaps are a tool used by big cities, major corporations and sovereign governments to manage their debt, and the scale of their use is almost unimaginably massive. It’s about a $379 trillion market, meaning that any manipulation would affect a pile of assets about 100 times the size of the United States federal budget.

BREAKING: Trey Gowdy Finally Threatens Hillary With ARREST

Ever since the email scandal broke, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has resisted turning over the personal email server she had used to skirt federal record-keeping regulations.

The former secretary of state and 2016 Democrat presidential front-runner instead had offered her word of honor (for whatever that’s worth) that nothing but personal email remained on the server, in spite of the fact that Clinton had turned over no email from around the time of the 2012 attack on the Benghazi consulate.

However, in a letter delivered to Hillary Clinton’s lawyers on Friday, House Select Committee on Benghazi Chairman Trey Gowdy rejected this approach and demanded that Clinton hand over her email server to a third party to see what email remains on it.

“I am formally requesting Secretary Clinton make her server available to a neutral, detached and independent third-party for immediate inspection and review,” Gowdy wrote, adding that the State Department’s Office of Inspector General could be a possible third party to examine the email.

“(S)hould Secretary Clinton continue to maintain that the server and its contents are hers alone, I will inform the Speaker of the House of Representatives so that he can use the full powers of the House to take the necessary steps to protect the best interests of the American people,” Gowdy wrote, according to The Blaze.

You’re talking about offenses that were committed when the child protection services were in public ownership.

Predators were allowed to do their filthy business because the management was lax, just as it tends to be when there is no real accountability.

And talking about privatised child protection services profiting from children’s misery is simply fatuous. The only ones “profiting” from children’s misery in Oxford, Rochdale and Rotherham were the politically correct unions and stupid labour councillors.

Nelson woman who spoke out on Work and Income vindicated over lawyer’s report

A Nelson woman who spoke out about the “dehumanising and debilitating” welfare system says a report criticising Work and Income shows she wasn’t alone in her battles.

The Canterbury Community Law (CCL) report on Work and Income released this week was aimed at informing community law centres about how to respond to beneficiaries’ legal needs. It featured interviews with beneficiaries and those with close involvement with the benefit system.

The report highlighted the need for legal help when there was an imbalance of power between beneficiaries and Work and Income and it described beneficiaries personal experiences with the system.

While the report and its recommendations were aimed at community law centres, Nelson Mail columnist Sarah Wilson said its findings reinforced what she had been fighting against.

Wilson had been writing about her dealings with the Nelson branch of Work and Income since she went on a sickness benefit in 2013. She had to stop working as she developed a debilitating, chronic illness. She was moved to the Job Seekers benefit after the major welfare reforms in 2013.

In March last year, she spoke about her dealings with Work and Income. She described the culture at Work and Income offices as “frustrating, depressing, anxiety-inducing, dehumanising and debilitating”.

She collected stories from other beneficiaries dealing with the welfare system to pass onto then Nelson-based Labour list MP Maryan Street and then social development spokesperson, Sue Moroney. Labour also created its own online survey called ‘Fair Treatment’ to gauge beneficiaries views on Work and Income.

Wilson said on Tuesday the CCL investigation reinforced what she had been speaking out against.

I mean duh. Seriously. EAD isn’t a child you know. Not like many who’d go: Libor? Is that the new name for Liarbore? No, he’s not like that.

And what about the gold standard rigging? That was news beginning of the year but they’ve made that disappear down the memory hole, haven’t they.
