The kids need shrinks, not surgery.

They need to decide for themselves what they need with assistance from those who understand the condition.

Either there is something very wrong with the law or… there is something wrong with the way some duff
incompetant judges are interpreting it.

So many examples recently of why this discretion, granted to judges should be removed from them.

There should be very few cases where name suppression is warranted.

They should be clear, known to all, and not subject to interpretation by lower court judiciary.

Basing things on evidence is boring? I suppose it is. That’s why we have religion.

The rainbow community are not known for pigeon-holding people. That’s why we have “LGBTQIA” among other iterations. Though actually I know women who have been pigeon-holed as gay though it’s for doing more than just kissing. But any lefty worth their salt knows it’s a spectrum. 🙂

1 in 100 doesn’t seem particularly huge to me and you can be sure that plenty of people have hidden how they feel due to bigotry. Did you think Bruce Jenner had a gender identity issue? Maybe 1.2% isn’t the correct figure, but it is certainly more reliable than just making it up out of thin air.

edit: as an aside I don’t care what the percentage is. If we had only one child in New Zealand who had any other disorder that required special treatment we would agree to make accomodations. The same should be true of transgender children.

I suggest you watch one and educate yourself. Looking forward to the next Local Body elections when Brian Rudman stands for Mayor. He would be the ideal choice…he has all the background information gained in hindsight…unfailing ability and knowledge to make the right decisions according to him and so very quick to know when other people are making the wrong choices. He would ensure that rate rises are kept to a minimum and that no money is spent unwisely. He has spent a life time researching this and knows all the pitfalls of running a city. After reading many of his articles I can see that he would be the best choice for mayor NOT.

Tauranga council are a disgrace , again. Although, at least they are finally doing the right thing.

Years ago they hired a safety officer and I was really critical at the time, not really knowing what a safety officer does or why they needed one. In todays news, they are announcing the job is being ‘disappeared’ which is great .

My opinion was at the time that people are trained/inducted to do their jobs safely and should not need a safety officer.

However, it is even worse than that… this safety officer has been implementing community anti bullying programmes and other social agenda guff….

Are these jobs that the council should be doing? While the pavement across the road is in dire need of repair?

It makes me really angy the council is wasing ratepayer money on such rubbish. The article makes references to other groups that make me believe they are spending significant amounts of time and money on social issues.

Note, this council have had several years of double digit rate increases so it is an insult that they are wasting our money on this garbage.

Who the hell is “Tauranga Moana Safe City”?? I never voted for this.

What is “The Safe City Governance Group”??? Do they fix roads or maintain sewers? Then they should be disappeared too.

And does the “Tauranga Moana Abuse Prevention Strategy” financed by our council? I hope not.

Stuart crosby is one of the worst mayors in the country and I just don’t get why the old people keep voting for him.

Thats my rant over. Bring back borough councils.

On the subject of transgender issues, poster child Bruce Jenner amazes me. He has never been anything but male. He has no female bits and is heterosexual. Doesn’t he need a psychiatrist? On what basis can we say he should become a woman? Isn’t he just mentally unbalanced? And as if the poor Kardashian children need any more drama? It must be hard for them, their Dad wants to become their Mum. That would freak anybody out.

I think they know what they are. It is ignorant adults who have trouble processing it. Indeed it seems in supportive environments other children have no problem with accepting transgendered kids because they mirror the tolerance expressed by their parents.

I have faith that conservatives can come to understand gender dysphoria if they think about it because every conservative understands gender roles. That’s why you are all up in arms about suggestions things should be unisex. You know that, in general, women think differently than men. That is to say that being female is not just about having a vagina, but it is THINKING like a woman that makes you feminine (and vice versa).

Why then is it so bloody hard for conservatives to appreciate the fact that some people are wired differently than their genitals would suggest? Why do you people encounter this runtime error “but but but… he has a penis… how can he be a woman?!?!”

Like isn’t this a case of mental illness?

It’s a disorder. It causes pain, influenced greatly by how society reacts and treats such people.

Look you are born either male or female. I appreciate a very few people have male and female bits, probably as a result of some genetic mutation, and we can feel sorry for them.
But I guess you embody the essence of liberalism, nothing is God given, it’s all open to change according to how you feel? You are born a man but want to be a woman, no problem. You are a woman but want to be a man, well we’ll just give you some extra bits.
Without God we get all this craziness. I guess that’s the essence of it, defying God even up to denying how he’s created us.

All this talk about, “I’m really such-and-such on the inside” reminds me of a thing I posted before. If a guy was to say that he was African American on the inside then how is that any different?

First of all let me say that this isn’t an easy decision and I hope that everyone will support me in my time of need. That being said, I want to admit that growing up I always felt different from everyone else around me. Things always seemed so colorless to me and I was always aware that I felt darker than other boys. Now, at long last, I must admit the truth. I must stop living a lie. I must come out and admit that I was born an African American.
Oh, sure, I “look” white. But so what? I have always felt black and now I wish to publicly embrace my inner African American.

Does this sound absurd to you? Is it wrong that a 50-some-year-old white man is suddenly claiming that he’s always “felt black”?

Why should it? Why should I not decide to be black? After all, liberals say that we can merely decide to be anything we want to be these days. A man can be a woman, a woman can be a man, a man can dress like a woman but still be a man, a religious person can jettison that and be an atheist, people can alter their faces and bodies with implants of any type ala transhumanism… anything is possible.

So, if I want to “be” an African American, why not? Who is to say I haven’t always “felt” black?

Who can deny me? Would liberals allow me, or any white person, their “feelings” that they are really a black person trapped in a white person’s body?

And if I can’t decide to be black, why not? How do liberals draw that imaginary line? How is it not arbitrary to deny me my feelings? How can it not be justified with the same “reasoning” as their other politically acceptable cases?

That pretty much highlights the absurdity of the whole, “I’m a different gender inside” thing.

They’re not cats, they’re probably schizophrenics. So dumb analogy.

But the focus of treatment should not be on what makes others comfortable it should be about the interests of the individual and how best to maximize their enjoyment in life. That’s why it’s important to emphasis that it is *their* decision and it is not for you, or any “progressive liberal” like myself to tell them what the prescription is.

I once considered marrying my old hunting mate but was put off by his bad breath.

No, Andrei. What we have done is call civil partnership/union “marriage”.

We have changed the word, not the concept.

The concept, rooted in the beginning of life itself, concerns the special relationship between males and females; it has not changed.

The institution of marriage has a different value for various people in our society Andrei. The importance people attach to it is largely influenced by their age, culture & whether they have belief in the supernatural.

People born in the past thirty plus years treat marriage as “could be nice but not essential”. Therefore they are not easily offended by who ties the not be they straights, gays or their dogs.

It’s only a bit of paper & I go along with them.

Certainly many young people don’t care much that the meaning of marriage has been changed.

Mind you, women complain that men aren’t keen to make a commitment to the “relationship”.

Let’s face it. Men want sex and women want a man. Don’t panic, nitpickers, it’s a generalisation.

Marriage was society’s way of addressing the problem. Especially when children were involved, or likely to be.

The queers have only hastened the demise of marriage.
