No it’s an accurate connection of current ideology to where it originated in the past.

People that repeat failed experiments with the intent of not failing this time round tend to not like “that stuff” being brought up.

Paulus Gnome at 0920 went to some lengths to try to convince the reader that school-teachers have a hard row to hoe and are grossly unappreciated. That’s if I read that post correctly, and i think I do.

Well, as the old song says, ‘I’ve got news for you sunshine….”

You see some years ago I spent two years in uniform in Singapore. Also there was a NZ school for the off-spring of people serving there and it was , of course, staffed wholly by New Zealand teachers on contracts of various lengths – usually two years, some longer.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I am no knocking teachers per se, but i have to take issue with the claim that they are over-worked, under-paid and not appreciated.

The teachers i knew were, to put it colloquially – ‘on the pigs back’, in terms of pay, conditions, allowances, holidays, and all the other advantages that go with being employed at a global crossroads like Singapore.

I got to know most of them – mainly through the Force Theatre Club – and I can tell you that when you really talk to teachers, especially when they’re ‘in their cups’, the real oil emerges about teaching, the teaching profession, NZ schools, pupils and the NZ educational hierarchy. (As an aside, teaching seems to be as political as any other profession and can be a sight bitchier one-on-one)

I came away with the impression that teaching for many teachers is a very good and well-appreciated lurk, by which i mean they wouldn’t change jobs for a pension. (I know, they get a pension if they stick at it long enough!) They revel in the long holidays and most are smart enough not to let peripheral admin intrude into their holidays. (Well, young ‘new’ teachers might, but not the seasoned educational campaigners)

Aside from the specialist insight my friendship with so many teachers gave me got to know many of them as friends and found they could be as friendly, funny, serious and miserable as any other Kiwi. I valued my association and friendship with many of them, they were ‘alright blokes and shielas’ – but, and its a big ‘but’ – I realised they knew they were on a good thing in the teaching profession and most of them wouldn’t have swapped it.

And before i finish, I’ve heard it said that teachers teach because they can’t ‘do’. Well, in my experience most teachers were pretty smart cookies who could take on any task they might be asked to take on.

Teachers are people, no better, no worse than any others. But the bottom line is, they’re no more un-appreciated and under-paid than anyone else in our society.

When rich people from politically dodgy countries park their money in real estate, do they care if the properties are rented out or not?

I read on another blog that rich Russian are buying properties in London and then just letting them sit empty.

And this got me wondering. In my neighbourhood, an old 1940s duplex sitting on about 1,200 square meters of land was bowled, and a Chinese developer (I know this because all the contractors were Chinese) put up three nice townhouses on the site. For Sale signs went up back at the end of last year. In due course, the signs disappeared. Now, mid through 2015, six months later, there is still no sign of occupancy.

Maybe the moving trucks will come next week, for all I know. But these three brand-new houses are just sitting there, unoccupied.

Has anyone also noticed newly built or newly sold houses in Auckland sit for half a year or more without anyone living in them?

It’s not a rebuttal to say alcohol causes more such emergency room visits, any more than you can excuse Hitler and Stalin by pointing out that Mao killed more people than they did.

It is a rebuttal when you maintain that cannabis is addictive.
Your link gives a mild reaction in some users.
In comparison withdrawal from Alcohol addiction can be directly fatal.

It is also a rebuttal when statistics say: You as an alcohol user are far more likely to need medical or judicial intervention than I will as a cannabis user.

It is also a rebuttal when you ignore the significant social costs of your drug of choice and attack mine when any risk is measurably less by all indicators.

All drugs cause harm.
Society should seek to minimize that harm .
One of the ways we can do that is encourage the use of safer alternatives .
Alcohol is not a safe drug for users their family’s and society as a whole.
In fact alcohol is one of the most damaging recreational drugs .
In comparison Pot is relatively safe alternative.

I don’t believe in “cultural Marxist” conspiracies, but I do believe that a higher proportion of people in positions of authority nowadays tend to be led by their emotions than by rational analysis.

The result of having a higher proportion of non-thinkers at the helm means that flakey-but-fashionable ideas are given more traction than they deserve. More people than before are unwilling to call a spade a spade. Fewer people are willing to stand up and shout that the king has no clothes.

Why would this be so? Is it the 70 years of peace in the West? Is it the dumbing down of public education? Is it the higher proportion of women in positions of power? Are we all getting soft?

Well hang on to your hats, ladies and gentlemen. Greece has just defaulted and life is about to get a little more uncertain…

All well and good and I agree entirely , so why the need for so called gay pride parades ,heavily reported on by the media and also heavily self censored to cut the outrageous displays of perversity and insults to Christianity that these so called “pride” displays seem to revel in.

No need at all kowtow. But if the homosexual community wants to have a parade that’s over to them. The only bit you should be concerned about is the use of public money and whether their parade is treated on a more concessional basis than anyone else. As for the media treatment – well, it’s entirely predictable but you don’t have to look at it. The jokes about anti-pornography campaigners come to mind – you know how they go: along the lines of needing to look at the porn in extreme detail just to ensure that it was truly disgusting.

Odakyu-sen@ 12.14: I don’t know who the purchaser may have been, but not far from me, in a decile 10 suburb, a large villa sold at auction back in March. Now, given the suburb, the size of the house and the plot of land, I’d be surprised if it had gone for less than $1.5Mil. , yet although the sellers moved out two days after the sale, no-one has moved in. Someone comes and mows the lawns, and empties the junk mail from the letterbox once a month, but no other signs of occupancy at all.

n 1973 the American Psychiatric Association declassified homosexuality from its list of mental disorders. A group of psychiatrists with B4U-Act recently held a symposium proposing a new definition of pedophilia in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Health Disorders of the APA.

B4U-Act calls pedophiles “minor-attracted people.” The organization’s website states its purpose is to, “help mental health professionals learn more about attraction to minors and to consider the effects of stereotyping, stigma and fear.”

I think it is a sexual orientation and a disorder. In Bedazzled Ringo Starr makes a wish and all of a sudden is living in a mansion. The problem is that he is a Mr Big of the narcotics world and is fired at by helicopter. Likewise the devil could make you a rich handsome pedophile. I think that there is an advantage in treating it as an orientation but there can be no consent until the child grows up and looks back? It is better that authorities know what is in a persons head but I imagine there are moral and immoral pedophiles?
I had a friend who was otherwise quite normal but in conversation he told me his sexual fantasy was to torture a woman. He seemed to think every male felt like that.

Obviously the Germans can’t take over the running of Greece but what is the answer when the Greeks refuse to change?!

Well, the Germans have done it once before. But probably best not to mention that.

But as to whether the Greeks will refuse to change, I suspect the referendum will result in a Yes vote. Right now Greeks are experiencing a taste of the initial chaos that leaving the euro would bring. The situation is getting worse by the day, and by the time the poll comes on Sunday most Greeks will consider the troika offer by far the lesser evil.

If that happens it would be a disaster for the Tsipras government. They would have no choice but to belatedly accept the creditors’ final offer, and would have lost all moral authority in future negotiations. Domestically they would be blamed for a week or two of chaos and panic, with nothing to show for it but further austerity.

The lyrics give a description and backstory of Aqualung. He is described as a dirty, paedophilic, homeless man. This, however, is merely the view of average passerby. By viewing Aqualung as a disgusting paedophile, we can excuse ourselves with not helping him. In verse two and three, the truth of Aqualung is told. He is simply an old man, who is lonely, sick and in pain, whom nobody cares for.

Yes, and do you know why they made that change? There was no new scientific evidence or anything else to suggest that homosexuality was not a disorder. They were bullied into it by activists. So, not much different than today.

In 1973, the American Psychiatric Association voted to strike homosexuality from the officially approved list of psychiatric illnesses. Why was this done?

As Jeffrey Satinover, M.D., details in his book, “Homosexuality and the Politics of Truth”:

Ronald Bayer, then a Fellow at the Hastings Institute in New York, reported that in 1970, homosexual activists within the APA planned a “systematic effort to disrupt the annual meetings of the American Psychiatric Association.”

Like bullies on the playground, homosexual activists didn’t want to play by the rules. You know, the rules that say if you want to influence a body of science, you should conduct properly designed studies and build scientific research that makes your case. No. There weren’t any scientific studies like that (still aren’t). No problem, just harass and intimidate those scientists who present properly designed studies that you don’t like. Like Dr. Irving Bieber, prominent psychoanalyst and psychiatrist, who presented a paper on “homosexuality and transsexualism” at the 1970 APA convention. Instead of challenging his findings by questioning the accuracy of his research methods, they just disrupted his presentation. Way easier. Especially when there isn’t any research to support your position.

Imagine the prestigious, scientific setting of the APA conference where Dr. Bieber presents his study – homosexual activists employ what has become their customary tactic: fear and intimidation. As Bieber begins to present his research, homosexual attendees loudly mock and laugh at him. They further disrupt his presentation by shouting and calling him names and making threats, suggesting he deserved to be “drawn and quartered.” If we said something like that about homosexuals, it’d be a “hate crime.”

On May 3, 1971, the psychiatrist protesters broke into a meeting of distinguished members of their profession and grabbed the microphone – giving it to one of their allied outside activists, who proclaimed:

Psychiatry is the enemy incarnate. Psychiatry has waged a relentless war of extermination against us. You may take this as a declaration of war against you. … We’re rejecting you all as our owners.

“No one raised an objection,” recounts Dr. Satinover. Their disruption was met with more reconciliation and an appearance before the APA’s Committee on Nomenclature. Further bullying and lobbying delivered the committee vote that maybe, just maybe, homosexual behavior was not a sign of psychiatric disorder after all.

By the time of the 1973 APA convention, the group announced its new “finding” with only 15 minutes for dissenters to discuss 70 years of psychiatric research to the contrary. The hijacked vote was formally appealed to the full membership. But activists already had a letter drafted, in part by friends at the National Gay Taskforce, urging a vote to “retain the nomenclature change,” which was sent to the 30,000 APA members with the money the NGTF had raised.

Of course, no one let on to APA members that the letter came from homosexual activists, as Dr. Bayer revealed, “that would have been ‘the kiss of death.'” But the letter drafted and paid for by the NGTF was able to secure a majority response from a third of the members who responded. But the vast majority was not behind the change. How do I know? Four years later, the Medical Journal Aspects of Human Sexuality reported a survey showing “69 percent of psychiatrists disagreed with the vote and still considered homosexuality a disorder.”

On April 9, 1974, results of the vote were announced. Only 10,555 of the 17,905 APA members had voted in the election. The results were as follows,

Total APA members eligible to vote: 17,905
Number of APA members that actually voted: 10,555
Number of members that “Abstained”: 367
Number of “ No” votes-votes to keep “homosexuality” in the DSM as a mental disorder: 3,810
Number of “Yes” votes-votes to remove “homosexuality” from the DSM as a mental disorder: 5,854

It should be noted that the number of “Yes” (5,854) made up only 32.7 percent of the total membership of the APA. Only slightly less than one-third of the APA’s membership approved the change. It should be further noted that the “National Gay Task Force” was able to obtain APA members addresses and the “NGTF” (with-out identifying itself) and they sent creepy letters to all members urging them to vote to remove “homosexuality” from the DSM. Bruce Voeller, the head of the NGTF admits, “Our costly letter has perhaps made the difference.” (The Long Road to Freedom, ed. by Mark Thompsan1994, p. 105-106) Dishonesty and intimidation had won the day for the same-gender sex movement, and when activists publicly claim that this vote was a scientific decision; they hide three years of deceit and intimidation. In same-gender sex publications, however, activists are remarkably candid about the reality of the vote. For example, Kay Tobin Lahausen, co-author of The Gay Crusaders describes a variety of activism. “We did all sorts of protests…When the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations came out of some meeting and got in his big black limousine, I remember going crazy, rocking and beating on the limousine…He had never been besieged by a bunch of homosexuals before. But he had said something that got us going.” (Making History: The Struggle for Gay and Lesbian Equal Rights, 1945-1990: an Oral History by Eric Marcus p.216-217) (–Author Marcus has worked as an associate producer for “CBS This Morning” and “Good Morning America.”)

Labels are a useful shortcut for a description.

The word “homosexual” is useful because it describes men who prefer sexual intimacy with men (and women who prefer sexual intimacy with women).

Calling it a disorder or disease doesn’t help much because the cause or origins are not understood and there seems not way to alter the desire.

It is widely reported that homosexuality is normal because it is found amongst all animals. But homosexuality is rarely seen as a preferred sexual behaviour amongst other animals.

We have no choice but to accept homosexuality on the spectrum of human sexual behaviour. It’s often associated with artistic talent and intellectual ability; they have a valuable contribution to make. In general, there is no reason to discriminate against homosexuals.

Having said that, behaviour tends to be on a continuum. Some people would never be heterosexual. But there may be some young people who could be pushed or persuaded to be homosexual. As I don’t see any benefit in being homosexual I think this would be a pity.

It has been suggested homosexuality might help reduce the population. Unfortunately some homosexuals use surrogates to create a family. I regard this as completely unnatural and undesirable.

Homosexuality is in its origins a congenital disorder, like hare lip and cleft palate. These cannot be cured either. The best that can be done is surgical repair.

There is a downside to not regarding homosexuality as a disorder. There is no motivation to explain it or prevent it.

It might be more important to find out why some adult’s brains retain children’s wiring. You know, Santa Claus, Tooth Fairies, Gods…

Stephieboy, I have no idea if you and I agree on everything (even ANYTHING, ha) but I sympathise with you in the loss of your friend.

Having gone many years (20 or so) without attending a funeral, I have been to 9 thus far this year and am finding the experience so enjoyable (not) that I am thinking of boycotting my own!

None of us are in this existence long enough not to mourn those who have departed…

My motto:

Te Pataka Ohanga, a wholly owned subsidiary of Te Kohanga Reo Trust, has reportedly provided koha and other gifts to employees without approval. The organisation also gave $110,000 in directorship fees to the Maori King, Tuheitia Paki, despite the Maori King having never been a director of the group.

Regular readers will remember that we have previously expressed concern with the Kohanga Reo National Trust. In October 2013 serious allegations were raised after it was revealed gifts even a wedding dress had been purchased on a company credit card. The subsequent investigation was a whitewash, with the Government admitting afterwards that none of the specific allegations were investigated.

The problem with taxpayer-funded NGOs is that once the money goes in, taxpayers have no ability under official information laws to see how it is spent. We need to change that.”

For those who don’t know, the AIIB is the BRICS answer to the IMF, and it’s first big task is going to be providing the bridge finance for the new silk road, which will open up the trade routes between China and Russia, extending into the EU.

Duh.

So, let’s check off all the things from cultural marxism that WOULD exist in our society IF cultural marxism exists. Here we go.

1. The creation of racism offences. Check.
2. Continual change to create confusion. Check
3. The teaching of sex and homosexuality to children. Check
4. The undermining of schools’ and teachers’ authority. Check
5. Huge immigration to destroy identity. Check
6. The promotion of excessive drinking – ?
7. Emptying of churches. . Check
8. An unreliable legal system with bias against victims of crime. Check
9. Dependency on the state or state benefits. Check
10. Control and dumbing down of media. Check
11. Encouraging the breakdown of the family. Check

Disagree with any of that?

Any “theory” involved? No. duh, this IS what OUR society REALLY looks like, isn’t it.

Conclusion?

Well only a 2-digiter could possible conclude that cultural marxism is an illusion that doesn’t exist in our society today, right Shawn?

As my previous post, which was written in plain English, pointed out, the issue is not whether it exists, but whether it can be used as a total explanation, or a paranoid conspiracy theory.

It can’t, because doing so ignores a whole heap of other historical issues and causes.

It’s a simplistic explanation for those who have trouble thinking any deeper than in easily digested sound bites.

History is far more complex, and as I pointed out to EAD, from a Christian pov, it is contrary to the Biblical explanation for evil.

5) Agreement with the ‘trickle down’ theory.
