Fair enough, Jack5. I usually only do it to highlight key points in a long text that I am quoting in full to give…as per kowtow’s failure…the full context. Enables the reader to quickly see the key points, while also enabling them to verify the authenticity. Seems especially apposite, given some around here are…simplistic, and even prone to massaging sources to fit their views.

Well, at least you didn’t do a Godwin’s! You may be right, but then a point of view, especially an interesting one like you and kowtow seem to hold re Muslims, has ramifications and practical implications if it were to be adopted as public policy.

So it seems reasonable for others to draw out those ramifications..especially as they suspect it would impinge on their freedoms. As per above, zeal to uproot every potential tare also harms the wheat.

So maybe there is another possibility. Your objection about attacking extended arguments is simply an attempt to play a get-out-of-jail card. Like when second-rate academics claim they “didn’t mean that” when their ideas and the legitimate ramifications are picked to pieces in peer review. And let’s face it, we are all peers here on Kiwiblog…

Now, that is a fascinating statement!

It’s true there is much about the belief and practice of Catholicism that I consider both sub-Christian and antithetical to necessary freedom and social good. Just as (further along the monotheistic continuum) I think the same about Islam.

But I will

1. Defend the right of a Catholic to believe what ever they want

2. Defend the right of a Catholic to practice what they want…as long as it does not impinge upon the non-sectarian freedoms of others

3. Acknowledge that the personal belief and practice of religious adherents is often out of step with what their religion allegedly requires

4. Acknowledge therefore that Catholics, like everyone else, have the right to be judged on the basis of what they do…including their suitability as a potential immigrant

Just out of interest, can you say the same about Muslims?

And if not, how is your fitting session for that “bigot” hat you are looking to stick on others going?

Translation: don’t interrupt my monologue with unwelcome facts…like the Telegraph op ed piece I posted a link for was talking about legal immigrants now present in Britain, not refugees…plus I deliberately failed to quote all of it because it didn’t fit my views. Indeed the contrast in suggested solutions highlights the point I may very well be just as much of a threat as those I am warning about.

What I like about Moslems is that they do not use a name for God in vain (Allah simply means “the God”, it passes the first two tests of monotheism – no idols or names for God).

In that not as dumb as some of Judeo-Christianity who think they know God’s name. And thus use one in vain, a breach of one of the ten commandments. One group even makes themselves known by this commandment breaking, to boast of it.

What I do not like about Moslems is that some are too stupid to realise that Allah is just an Arabic term for “the God” and think it is a name – this not just because they do not speak Arabic. Stupidity can tear down the pillars of a faith faster than anything else.

Moslem migrants pose an interesting issue.

Both Catholics to Protestants and Moslems to Christians have posed a historic threat.

Yet there was Catholic migration to Protestant (breakaway) nations. Some of this occurred while Irish were fighting for independence from UK over-rule. They were seen as separatist (own schools) and associated with obedience to a foreign leadership – which while non political wanted government to conform to its religious (blasphemy law) and moral sensibilities (enforced in law). Little has changed, bar the fact that the laity of the faith are no longer seen as dutiful sheep of a foreign power in these matters.

Moslem migrants too are seen as supporting blasphemy law and morality enforced through law – and their own schools. Little difference at first glance. But migration is occurring while there are Moslems fighting to establish Islam as a ruling polity in the rule over Moslems wherever they live (as per obedience to the Papacy for Catholics wherever they lived).

Our democratic tradition is to allow political and religious advocacy, but within the constraint of operating within democratic practice and not advocating the end of the authority of the democratically mandated government. Thus we have to divide the Moslems into two camps, and thus exclude as migrants or refugees those who do not accept this regime.

Well verse 30 certainly gave a definite directive farming practice to do and it did not seem to be teasing out the ramifications. I know parables are supposed to make one think about things and to see a Jesus interpretation, particularly of the old traditions and laws of the Old Testament .

Sorry DVM as not a green answer, and do agree, composting of problems can work as the build up of heat can often have a sterilizing affect. Even all that heat can produce a fire too.
Still care must be taken not to overload the ground as leaching may happen to the nutrients.

Most Muslims, luckily, do not admire the bloodthirsty regime trying to plant its flag in the most troubled corners of the Middle East, but significant numbers do see a faith-run, faith-defined state as the ultimate goal in this life. What do you think imans will think of this?
How will ordinary muslims think of it in their community groups.
Some of these things may be considered an attack on islam, and so must be defended against.
Is the author trying to come to civilized conclusions while displaying some parts of the problem, as he still recalls 25 years ago the upset he caused about a minor concern he had about his “innocent of any wrong” neighbours?. So is he protecting himself in his well paid job and for his family?

I wish/hope those answers can work, but will they even be put in place? then will civics and etc. even work?
I see the answer that author hid in the first part of the quote that he has teasingly put in place;- “significant numbers do see a faith-run, faith-defined state as the ultimate goal in this life. It is one thing that I do believe, is to stand up for our civilization, culture and laws, so that any one who wants to join the western civiization, can leave islam, and become an apostate, can find a safe place to live, and not be fearful of retribution.

Today I received an ACC invoice. Is this a second tax on my income, and in turn what does it mean that it gets GST imposed on it? I agree with paying ACC, but the notion of being double taxed and taxed on my double tax bothers me for some reason.

Not quite. It is true the Law of Moses gives instructions of planting and harvesting. But in the text in question Jesus is using the farming practices that were already in existence in 1st Century Palestine as an illustration for what the coming of the Kingdom of God (apologies to Jack5 for bold) would be like. I ommitted the introduction “Jesus told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field…”

It is my understanding that farmers there did not plow a field before planting. Therefore trying to weed would cause the intended crop to be torn up from the roots as well.

It is an analogy – two things (a field with weeds and crops…and God’s kingdom breaking into our world at the end of the age) that are otherwise different, but have one point of comparison. In this case….if you try and weed out all the “undesireable elements” you actually harm the good things.

And while Jesus was using it as advice that in this age God allows both good and bad grow side by side (with the expectation he will divide the two when he comes)

…I extracted that universal principle and applied it to immigration – if you try and stop/weed out immigrants on the basis of their (Muslim religion) you will do great harm to the freedoms of all of us.

Yes. An educated and engaged populace is always the best defence of democracy and non-sectarian freedom. It is when people don’t own what is theirs that enemies within have the opportunity to flourish…because people don’t know any better, and are either captured by demagogues or cowered by fear.

Which ones?! You paint with too broad a brush. Put it this way – if there those who don't, and instead want to undermine our freedom then our existing laws are sufficient. The question is…will they be upheld. Which comes back to an educated populace as the best defence.

As to taking in refugees, I am still trying to get my head around Obama rejecting Iraqi Christians as refugees, as they were not persecuted by their government – but by Islamic state which is ruling part of Iraq.

The USA is taking in refugees from Syria to assist Europe and do not they include Syrian Christians fleeing persecution by Islamic State in Syria?

Obama would have no problems with Congress taking them by executive order, the choice not to do so was his own. His decision reflects on his suitability for office.

The background to this is his lack of support for Kurds in Iraq until the world realised they alone were standing up to Islamic State and protecting other minorities being persecuted by them.

But for Muslims ‘Allah’ is both a title/description (God) and a proper name. “There is no god (‘ilah) but Allah“. Which means you can be talking past each other in inter-faith dialogue. Yeah, I believe in God (‘ilah), but he is not like Allah – instead he is Father, Son and Holy Spirit. And Jews would have similar problems – God doesn’t commission Gentile prophets. So whatever ‘Allah” Mulsims worship, he ain’t the God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, David…or Jesus…no matter what the Koran says.

Also, as Muslims are wanting to see their theology projected back onto both the Old and New Testaments (as Muhammed promised them they would find) , they are insistent that the Hebrew ‘elohim and Arabic Allah are equivalent. Lingusitically, yes (both are Semitic languages), but not theologically.

Do you mean “Jehovah”? Is a mongrelisation and Latinisation of the consonants of the Hebrew YHWH and the vowels from the Hebrew word ‘adonay/Lord, which was always spoken in its place?

Pious Jews won’t use it, and only the Jehovah’s Witnesses are dishonest enough to insist it is the name. But “Yahweh” (which is most likely how it is meant to be pronounced) is used in Biblical scholarship. Not a taking the name in vain according to the third commandment, which was originally about not using God’s name in an oath in a careless manner (very common in Muslim society courtesy of the example set in Koran, btw, who seem to want to back up their assurances with oaths to any and everything!)

Nope, as per above they are using it as both, and courtesy of Muhammed they have to. So do you mean the God, known as Allah, introduced by Muhammed, who “cannot” have a son? Or the God who is the Father of Christ, the Son of God? (although not a son in the way Muhammed and Muslims misunderstand the New Testament).

And I think you’ll find Allah was the actual name of a pagan deity in Mecca before Muhammed pinched it, and then supposedly purged the place of the paganism. A similar thing happened at the time of the biblical patriarchs. The Canaanites have deities (‘elohim – also used of the God of the Old Testament) fixed in certain places known by the proper noun “‘el”.

Kabbalah Jews tried to correct other Jews who used a name for God, by creating other names for God – all of which were adjectives, as eternal is. To demonstrate that ways to describe an eternal God were not names at all.

As I don’t agree with your initial premise, I don’t agree with your thesis. The trinitarian (tri-unity) formulation of the Apostles Creed’s :

“I believe in God, the Father almighty,

I believe in the Holy Spirit”

…is most sufficient

And now radical groups are joined by members of the so-called “moderate” Syrian opposition backed by the West.

They get weapons and training, and then they defect and join the so-called Islamic State.

In fact, the Islamic State itself did not come out of nowhere. It was initially developed as a weapon against undesirable secular regimes. Having established control over parts of Syria and Iraq, Islamic State now aggressively expands into other regions. It seeks dominance in the Muslim world and beyond. Their plans go further…

You probably even tarnish plain sense of scripture with personal preference for the trappings of Arminian design tendency inside the church.

Put it this way, where scripture is not in accord with the 10 Commandments (and sermon on the mount development a new perspective on this), I see it as inconsistent with the faith tradition. – which I see as deist at this base foundation. The rest the dogma of the theist religions, works of man posing as knowledge of God.

As to the eastern and western aspect, the eastern see a return to the whole, whereas the western mind sees the whole as a creation of God, thus a return as the son to the father, rather than to the whole (and possible rebirth back into a finite part of creation).

Fletch I recently had to spend some time in hospital. I was on a no solids diet. After I was there 3 days, the young Samoan guy next to me was visited by his relatives who brought him in KFC. As regular readers here would attest, I am a tolerant man. To the point of sainthood even. But sitting in my hospital bed at 8.30 at night (after regular visiting hours), smelling and listening to the disgusting ill-begotten cur eating KFC, my patience was sorely tested. Seymour Hersh has risked much over his decades of journalism. He is a true journalist who has been attacked, slandered, and shunned by all sides simply because he seems to resist taking any side.

When he reported on US atrocities in Vietnam, he was first attacked and denounced as a traitor or worse. But then in 2013, when Hersh brought forward information contradicting the West’s official narrative regarding a chemical attack on the outskirts of Damascus, the New Yorker decided not to publish it. His report, “Whose Sarin?” instead found itself published in the London Review of Books.

The story of Hersh bringing this information forward to the public and how the Western media attempted to first discourage it, then bury it, before attempting to discredit both the report and Hersh himself is a microcosm of the dying Western media.
The Final Nail

Hersh’s report went on in detail covering the manner in which Western leaders intentionally manipulated or even outright fabricated intelligence to justify military intervention in Syria – eerily similar to the lies told to justify the invasion and occupation of Iraq, and the escalation of the war in Vietnam after the Gulf of Tonkin incident.

And not only did the report punch holes through the official narrative, it helped hobble what little momentum was left for Western military aggression against Syria based on the lies told by the US and its allies regarding the chemical attack.

In Hersh’s follow up report, “The Red Line and the Rat Line,” also published by the London Review of Books, he revealed information not only further exposing the lies told by the US and its allies, but suggested NATO member Turkey and close US-ally Saudi Arabia may have played a role in supplying those responsible for the attack with the chemical weapons.

Should Hersh’s reports reach wider audiences and the idea of a West capable of conceiving, carrying out, then trying to exploit a crime against humanity to justify expanded, unjust war, Western foreign policy would irrevocably be disfigured and perhaps begin to unravel…

Reid, ever wondered why the symbolism of fruit hanging on a tree, until it falls down to the earth (blood falling like gravity) that Adam was said to have come from?

All human males have mothers and they have to return to a place where they came from to have children – make some tempting female a mother. Its the way of creating human life.

Well, after today I admit to being a little confused Mike. Up until 6.0 tonight I had a vague idea that EAD might pull the rabbit out of the hat. I had the survival kit & an extra couple of cans of corned beef stacked up beside the shottie & the tramping boots but in the end the preparation proved to be unneeded.

But I’m killing a dogtucker this weekend so I’ll lay the entrails out & see if they’re any easier to read this time. 🙂

Wait I thought the whole part of Jesus dying was to absolve us from our sins. Wouldnt that also mean Adam was forgiven? But the crime of disobeying Goddam without prior warning of how despicable and selfish and hating this Goddam is, or any knowledge of prior infraction or a law book CONDEMNS Adam and the rest of the human race to a life of hell on earth?

There is little change to what happened back in the Vietnam days. Initial suppression of the inconvenient story, until it checked out and or they found the will to overcome inertia and challenge the prevailing established line.

The Syrians might have done it, they had done it – but it could have been the rebels. Did the West know about a supply line to rebels and the attempt to exploit any rebel use to blame Syria and bring in the West with a no fly zone? Did some just join to the conspiracy because it was in line with Bush era planning?

Nothing they have not been accused of already – in the case of Iraq.

Actually, if you read Genesis, God told both Adam and Eve that they could eat anything they wanted, except the fruit from the Tree of Knowledge. They were warned.

The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to till it and keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “You may freely eat of every tree of the garden; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall die.”

And they knew it too. The woman repeated God’s warning to the snake –

And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden; but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’”

So we know they were both aware.

SPC, why pick on Hersch?

There’s millions of other sources, all saying the same thing.

Question is: do you know of those or do you just hallucinate Hersch is a disaffected outsider, like all the sheeple do, or have you seriously looked at some of those millions of other sources, together with the Western MSM assessments, and after weighing up all of those, come to your own, logical, evidence-based conclusion?

Or have you just sought out the “reliable” (in your opinion) Western sources, and used those to exclusively form your views?
