NZ Tax payer union is a National party front. In effect they are the brown shirts of the National party. The union runs pin pricks hits on government department spending, most likely leaked by respective Ministers upset with government department heads to then used by the Minister’s as weapon against them.

Compare the alleged NZ union to the UK taxpayers union if there is any doubt about this. The UK taxpayer union release comphensive reports on the massive damage over taxation does to families and the UK economy and calls for sweeping tax reform.

The NZ version is a sick National party joke very much part of the problem designed to fool and confuse.

Much as I support the idea of it, the average Joe would never have heard of the Taxpayer’s Union and has no idea how much tax he pays and how much is thrown down the toilet.

I told a tradie mate of mine how much tax he actually paid, when you take into account ACC, GST, petrol & booze excise, WOF, COF, vehicle rego, local govt rates etc etc and he just about shit himself.

Most people I know only vote National because the other lot are so, so much worse but at the end of the day the difference between National and a Labour led administration simply comes down to a few more cents in an already raped dollar. That’s about all.

The country is littered with such screwball pressure groups at both national and local levels. All out for their little group at the expense of common sense and responsibility.

The sad truth is most New Zealanders like large government. In ACT we have finally got a hard working, intelligent person running the show. ACT is polling at 0.5%.

Well David it looks like Fisher & co have run out of grubby ideas to attack JK with, so they have to resort to his perceived supporters or they have looked at the success of KB and said that can’t go on, we’ll have to fix it.

I don’t agree with everything posted on here but I see a better attempt at balance than I’d ever see from Fisher &co so that is good enough for me.

Kiwis are now used to large state involvement in their lives. Struth, a majority of households receive Working for Families, which is just another taxpayer subsidy.

I’ve been a member of Act for 17 years but wouldn’t go near the Taxpayers Union. Describing it as the “Act Party in drag” is nothing short of a lie. But I expect nothing less from Edwards and Fisher.

Ah, the “it’s only okay if it benefits me” wailing of the entitled left. They flail around looking for excuses, all of them weak, so as to discredit a union that actually does something positive to represent it’s members.

If only instead they took a step back and looked at what it has been involved in and saw how it has also benefited them. Heaven forbid they should get involved to actually see whether it is as bad as they think, and to help ensure it isn’t, rather than vaguely speculating about dangers.

It’s not like it’s full of cognac drinking hypocrites who milk the gullible with scare stories, and who bought a stake in the second-runner left wing political party. That would be the corrupt unions they are okay with.

Pressure groups from the Left – fine as happy to see them

Pressure groups from the Right – oh that’s very bad, very, very bad. Hwo can we link them to the bogeyman aka WOBH aka Cameron Slater…..

We are over taxed, too much is plain waste and the endless Joycisms in Corporate welfare are an affront to business people really. if you can be lean and efficiency in your operations you shouldn’t expect the taxpayer or ratepayer to cover your inability

Nothing wrong with pressure groups, Dave, we need them for many things. What people are pointing out about the Taxpayers’ Union though, is that it is not your average pressure group. It has been set up by its National Party founders to pretend to be a politically neutral pressure group.

You would say that Milky – corporate welfare in reality is where money is given to the private sector to supply services to an over obligated government. Something YOU voted for. Former govt staff help lash on the gravy to the private sector. And with gst income to govt raised by 2.5% it will remain this way ‘affordable’ for the foreseeable future. While no one will be laid off by govt. It’s robbery – motorway style – oh did I mention the cameras?

And that’s thanks to you Milky – National’s private sector left. What a legacy!

You are having some comprehension problems, Dave. there is nothing wrong with pressure groups when we are all clear about their aims and affiliations. That includes the Taxpayers’ Union, now that it is clear to everyone that it is a National Party attempt at astroturfing.
I’d be similarly dismissive of any other group, whatever its affiliation, trying to disguise those affiliations and pass itself off as non-partisan.

What you are effectively saying is no pressure without a disclaimer of connections – yes? Well great I look forward to all those on the Left following your saintly advice and outing themselves and their political connections every time a group they are in does anything like press releases etc…..

A couple of points arising from the article itself:

1. Interesting that DPF automatically singles out nurses, teachers and human rights organisations as the first examples of ‘waste’ that sprung into his mind. This surely reflects the bias typically found on the extreme right in any country.

2. So Williams used his well funded bully pulpit to refer a university lecturer (Note: see point 1, above) to her employer for what most would consider to be a statement of fact (referring to JW as a ‘twat’), yet JW himself joked with fellow Dirty Politics traveller, Cameron Slater, along the lines of “…if they didn’t have c@@ts we would throw rocks at them”. Taking aim at both a woman and an educator must have been very exciting for JW.

DPF will undoubtedly correct any errors in this post, but, all in all, it’s difficult not to come to the conclusion that TU is a nasty and counterproductive organisation populated by men acting like prepubescent school boys.
