For those who still think there is nothing wrong with ‘educating’ children at younger and younger ages about sex.

Six kindergartners at a public school in Racine, Wis. have been suspended for a month for allegedly simulating sex with each other inside a classroom coat closet during school hours.

Details are scant, reports Milwaukee Fox affiliate WITI-TV, but a kindergarten girl at the unnamed elementary school appears to have been the ringleader of the group.

A local grandmother told the station that a district-issued report accuses the girl of pressuring her 5-year-old grandson into the closet sex acts, which included touching in inappropriate bodily places.

The unidentified grandmother said a report issued by the Racine Unified School District showed a longstanding pattern of in-the-closet sex incidents by the children.

“I couldn’t believe some of the things in that report,” the grandmother told WITI-TV. “It was shocking.”

“According to the report, this has been going on since 4-K. He’s now in kindergarten,” she also said.

The classroom teacher was unaware of the sexual activity among the kindergarten students — at least for quite a while.

It’s not clear how adults found out about it.

A student told school officials that the sexual activity occurred on a daily basis.

No. You forget that the Ma’a Nonu of 2002-2009 was not the Ma’a Nonu of 2010-2015.

The first was a one-dimensional crash-ball merchant with little vision, nor distribution skills from hand and foot

Nonu Part II, a creation of Henry, Smith an Hansen after the 3-0 defeat we suffered at the hands of the Boks in 2009, was the finished product that just got better and better with age and experience.

Like Andy Haden before and after he went to France in 1974-76. Little comparison between the two. One was a raw but unfulfilled and largely wasted talent…and the other was the best lineout forward (under the rules of the day) the All Blacks ever had.

Lets get someone to hack Penny’s computer and get a investigative journalist to publish her contents.

What would you say to that Penny ? Would it be in the public interest ?

If someone was to do that, I would be just as outraged as I was at the hacking of Slater’s computer, and the dissemination of his personal correspondence. I certainly wouldn’t be celebrating as the Left was when they thought Hager had won the election for them.

I think most New Zealanders would believe that the illegal theft of personal information is NEVER in the public interest. That’s why Dotcom’s Moment of Truth was always doomed to fail.

I’m not sure that story has anything to do with the perils of sex education. It seems more likely to me that the authorities should investigate the family circumstances of the ‘ringleader’. There could well be a case of sexual abuse there.

Um. I know you are likely suffering the stress of impending – and long-overdue, IMHO – homelessness, but what exactly are you referring to in my “opinion”? That it is not “journalism”, nor the product of a “journalist”? Check again. As much as I disagree with Hager’s political frame-of-reference (which last time I looked is my prerogative – or is that likely to change under a ‘Bright mayoralty’?)…I’ll acknowledge he is a journalist, and ‘Dirty Politics’ counts as journalism (and likely something more).

So what if he does? You know what the “appeal to authority” fallacy is, don’t you?

I agree with his conclusions about the Lundy and Bain cases and think he gets emotively wrong-headed about child poverty, I weigh up evidence for myself to make decisions and I don’t think Hager fits the requirements to be called a “journalist”.

errrr….. Kiwibloggers – where is the EVIDENCE that Nicky Hagar was personally responsible for ‘hacking’ anybody’s computer, or personally responsible for commissioning anybody else to hack anybody’s computer?

My understanding is that Nicky Hagar was given hacked information and chose to write about it in ‘Dirty Politics’ – because he thought the public should know what was going on at the highest levels of the NZ Government.

ie: It was in the ‘public interest’ to so do.

I agree with him.

Good on Nicky Hagar.

I’ve read ‘Dirty Politics’ myself and after so doing, I continue to wonder how the hell NZ can possibly be ‘perceived’ to be ‘the second least corrupt country in the world’?

(According to the, in my view, completely meaningless Transparency International 2014 ‘Corruption Perception Index’).

My understanding is that Nicky Hagar was given hacked information and chose to write about it in ‘Dirty Politics’ – because he thought the public should know what was going on at the highest levels of the NZ Government.

Hager’s public utterances regarding his dealings with the Hacker are incredibly contradictory and seem to vary depending on who he’s talking to at the time. IMO based on his slipperyness around this subject, I think he not only knows who the hacker is, he knew about the planned hack before it happened.

Oh, and the reason we rate as “non corrupt” is that you can’t hand a Cop $20 with your licence when you’re pulled over and expect to escape a ticket.

Personally I find it hard to believe that an author can be a journalist (at the same time, in relation to the book). With regards Slater (for vendetta) vs Hager, I’d say the timing of the book made it a politically motivated action with the purpose of influencing a general election (for his own political ends). So lots of doubt on that argument in my humble opinion.

However, one issue I am seriously uncomfortable with is his threat to expose certain journalists if they do not change their ways (presumably to his political orientation). Isn’t this illegal – extortion or blackmail or some such.

In Dirty Politics,( Chapter 10 Sex Scandal pg 107-118 ) Hagar is especially critical of Slater for disclosing the Len Brown and Bevan Chuang affair:

“His method was a sex scandal. The attack was launched on 15 October 2013, when intimate details of an affair between Brown and a woman named Bevan Chuang were published on the Whale Oil website. Readers were treated to details of masturbation, ejaculations and other things that most people do not need to know about a public figure. Many people were critical of Brown for having the affair, but the use of the humiliating detail and the way the story came out were the first signs that there was dirty politics at work.”

Edit: This observation by Hagar that dirty politics was at work is in itself astonshing, the lurid facts aside, the revelations were more importantly in the public’s interest as to the character of Len Brown and would of had a huge impact if released prior to the mayoral election but were with held due to Slater’s father John Slater having concerns that the revelations might have the unintended impact of rebounding on John Slater’s client John Palino.
No doubt Hagar would of released that information prior to the election, for instance the timing and release of “Dirty Politics” was clearly designed to damage John Key and the National Party and the carefully orchestrated campaign of KDC and the Internet Party worked in concert with Hagar releasing ” Dirty Politic’s”.
In summary Hagar is of course a complete hypocrite.

Five and six year-olds touching each other in “inappropriate bodily places” isn’t a new thing, is it? I remember at a very young age being fascinated by a female friend’s lack of a penis (I’ve only brothers).
As I think about it -In the farming community that I grew up in, kids a had pretty good idea of the mechanics of sex at a pretty early age. Also, given the sort of housing arrangements that existed for much of human history, I’d expect it was hard to keep much secret.

In reference to Judge Collin’s ruling he said:
Justice Clifford said there was “no explicit reference” in the warrant application put before a district court judge to “Hager’s status as a journalist”, to legal principles around search warrants executed on journalist, to the legal rights journalists had under the Evidence Act or to the way those rights were explained in the Search and Surveillance Act.

Edit: Fundamental to Judge Collin’s ruling concerning the validity of the Police Search warrant was the description by Police of Hagar as being a political writer, and not a journalist.
Judge Collin’s has therefore made no distinction between an article and a book or whether a writer is an author or a journalist or both.

Thanks for sharing – I once had the privilege of seeing the King’s College Choir at the Royal Albert Hall supported by the London Philharmonic and it was just stunning to watch.

I recall singing hymns all through my childhood before, but it wasn’t until adulthood that I truly appreciated the beauty and power of hymns.

Whilst not a weekly church goer, there is something about hymns sung in church – humbling when you are feeling on top of the world, uplifting when you are feeling down.

The massed Welsh Choirs in full voice at the Millenium Stadium under a closed roof was also a highlight.

I too will be interested in learning specifically Griff’s qualifications relative to those of Maggy Wassilieff, PhD, whom he abuses as “the anti science loon.” (If I recall correctly, he has advised previously that he has no scientific qualifications, but he can verify or correct that as he chooses.)

Given that the recent circus in Paris was all about international politics, rather than science, I doubt whether scientific qualifications have much relevance anyway – for Griff or for many of the protagonists!

Just because she has a phd doesn’t make her an expert on anything but what her dissertation was on .

On climate change she is going against every major scientific body on the planet.
On a subject that many think is the most significant problem ever to confront humans she is rabbiting propaganda from the coal and oil industry’s intent solely on maintaining its profits. The source and funding for the crap she spurts is well documented.

Not so. It also indicates an ability to research and present specialist findings for peer review within the construct and disciplines of the wider academic community/guild, as well as the learned aptitude to assess other’s findings…including and especially within a broader but not dissimilar and/or unrelated field of study.

Doesn’t mean Maggy is necessarily right. But her opinions are weightier and therefore worthy of more respect than many others, especially in a forum such as this…

That, sir, is ultimately why we fund the training and development of an academic community.

On 19 Feb 2010Dr Wayne Mapp informed the NZ Parliament that NIWA’s intent during the 2010/2011 financial year was to submit a paper on NZ’s temperature trend based on the 7station temperature series to a scientific journal.

As far as I am aware this scientific paper has never appeared.

In the meantime the only scientifically peer-reviewed and published paper on NZ’s temperature trend was published this year by independent researchers

In this 2015 paper the authors use the same techniques and methodology NIWA say they use. They found NZ had warmed marginally (only 0.28deg C) during the 20th Century. That contrasts strongly with NIWA’s view that NZ warmed by 0.9deg C during the 20th Century.

Who is correct?

As such things matter to quite a few of us here, please be a good chap and (at least) share your nominals with us, ‘cos if you you don’t, the readership might just start to think that you are in fact not academically qualified (despite your lofty pronouncements, which might suggest otherwise), and that would do your image and authoritative status absolutely no good at all.

An educated person regardless of discipline hopefully (and this is not always the case) uses the brain God endowed them with to evaluate the evidence available to them and judges it on its merits to decide on the veracity of the claims being made

Furthermore many who have specialized knowledge in any virtually any scientific discipline will have the ability to contribute to the climate change debate because the factors that influence it as well as the methods used to measure past changes are drawn from multiple areas of scientific inquiry – Geology, Astronomy, Fluid mechanics (my own interest), paleobotany, Meteorology, oceanography etc etc etc

The infamous Michael Mann of hockey stick fame was a “dendrochronologist” an expert in tree rings – absolutely fascinating stuff, I’m sure you’ll agree

But until he produced his famous hockey stick he was beavering away in an obscure university with his tree core samples unnoticed by all. The hockey stick graph changed it all for him – suddenly he was feted all over town, appearing on Larry King live and attending conferences all over the world staying in five star hotels along the way.

with regard to Climate change…… i’m in the same boat as any other taxpayer…. My qualifications are irrelevant.
Why hasn’t NIWA submitted a paper on NZs temp trend to a scientific journal as they promised they were going to do?
Why does the “official” temperature gain over the last century differ from that published in a scientific, peer-reviewed paper.

(For the confused:… My Ph.D is in Botany. My field of research was Forest Ecology….. specifically Forest dynamics/ secondary succession.
Nothing to do with plant taxonomy)

Why hasn’t NIWA submitted a paper on NZs temp trend to a scientific journal as they promised they were going to do?
The process they used Has been peer reviewed.
As was the Temperature series peer reviewed by BOM .

Why does the “official” temperature gain over the last century differ from that published in a scientific, peer-reviewed paper.

Why do you repeat the lie its an official series when the New Zealand courts found other wise ?
Why does The paper you refer to differ from the result of ever major temperature series including NASAGISS , HADCRUT, JAP MET, AND BEST?
Why does it also differ so much from the actual unadjusted 11 station series produce by NIWA ?
Why does it fail to accurately adhere to the process it claimed to follow ?
Why has the author of that paper De Freitas been excluded from ever being the editor of a reputable scientific journal again after being caught passing absolute crap papers for oil industry shrills ?

Indirectly they are doing it now. The green slip they get from Social Welfare. They are taking it to certain service stations ,changing them for debit cards,and then using the debit card to buy massive quantities of cigarettes all in a collective way.Seems the “scam” is gang related.

As noted a couple of days ago, the egregious breakfast show PAUL HENRY has been markedly improved by the temporary absence of …. Paul Henry. His temporary replacement, Alison Mau, is far more intelligent and serious—and a nice person as well. This puts others at ease; Henry’s slaves Hilary and Jim are notably more relaxed and have been smiling and laughing this week rather than grimacing as Henry makes one of his ignorant and brutal comments, cringing as he grovels to a National Party politician, or forcing out an uneasy snicker at one of his mirthless jokes.

However, Alison Mau is still at the mercy of the show’s producers. So she had no option but to talk to the discredited former ACT führer Jamie “Lock Up His Sisters” Whyte, who was one of the guests on the “Panel” segment after the 8 o’clock news. The other Panel guest was the 21 year old blogger Verity Johnson. She did not even try to disguise her contempt for Whyte.

First item up for discussion was the decision to allow Rugby League player Russell Packer, convicted of serious assault, to remain in Australia. Whyte started by making a Paul Henry-standard joke: “It’s a severe punishment to have to stay in Australia,” he quipped. Nobody laughed. Then he embarked on a long and wandery homily about how equal treatment of offenders is unfair on the rich, who suffer unduly because “they have more to lose.” This led him on to some even more confused remarks about the love life of Brad Pitt, and then another awkward joke about how he loves alcohol.

As Whyte rambled on, Verity Johnson looked hard up and to the right, to a spot as far away from Whyte as possible. She also fought to stop herself from laughing out loud. Even Jim and Hilary, accustomed to listening to bizarre monologues every morning, were clearly uncomfortable….

JAMIE “LOCK UP HIS SISTERS” WHYTE: I’m a very jolly chap, especially after a certain time of night. … It’s been a very boring year. the highlight was the Free Trade deal. It was bloody great. Cons? I suppose all the slaughter. Slaughter’s never something to be recommended.

ALISON MAU: But there are legitimate concerns about the TPP. Even Tim Groser admits that.

JAMIE “LOCK UP HIS SISTERS” WHYTE: [speaking as slowly as possible to convey how serious he is] People don’t like companies suing governments. That’s a feature I LIKE because it constrains government. And I like government to be constrained. Ummm….

As Whyte bored on, the camera cruelly pulled back to show Verity Johnson shaking her head and rolling her eyes, Jim and Hilary wincing, and even the technicians and studio crew shaking their heads in disbelief.

After Whyte was gone, Jim and Hilary made a few light-hearted remarks about the absent Henry enjoying his overseas holiday. Ali Mau then uttered what might have been an even more nonsensical statement than anything by the hapless ex-ACT führer….

As they have actually refused to produce their working we can only guess as to what they used .This is despite them making such a fuss over allegations NIWA has not disclosed theirs .

I am fascinated by your responses to both my thanking you and to those who have taken the trouble to comment on your posts, individuals who have shown politeness towards both you and the GW creed you so vehemently espouse. Unfortunately, it seems that ‘politeness’ and ‘respect for others’ is not something that you were taught or have any inclination towards, yet I notice that you are not averse to demanding that ‘others’ respect you and your perceived ‘right’ to be heard; this despite the petulant abuse you hurl at those who dare to hold opinions at variance with yours.

So be it, if that’s your personal ‘style’, but, FWIW, it’s a great way to both loose supporters and those who might have actually been interested in what you have to promote.

In my experience, Griff dishes out about as much as he gets by way of abuse. This is a fairly robust forum. There are a few hard-core fuckwits here repeating their ‘AGW is a scam’ bullshit. They deserve to be called out. Perhaps more scurrilous are those, like Maggy, who should know better but persist in putting forward discredited sources.
There is no real scientific contention around the basic thesis of AGW – just obfuscation funded by some vested interests.

Philosophy is the hand-maiden of theology. Also, as per Aquinas (and this is likely the only time I’ll ever quote him positively), theology is the queen of sciences.

Tongue-in-cheek comments aside, when all those great Universities of the Western world, such as Bologna, Padua, Oxford and Cambridge (and Stamford and Princeton for that matter) were originally established, it was primarily for the purpose of studying…theology. But obviously they were a bunch of knub skulls, and true knowledge, which will clearly die with you, Scott Chris, hadn’t been invented until you came along to give us the benefit of your opinions. That last bit is sarcasm, btw…

Yes, to be fair, every discipline claims that laurel for itself, but you are rather pushing the boundaries of credibility if you say it is “Food Technology”, “Communications”, or “Fashion Design” – as worthy and rigorous disciplines (except maybe “Communications”!) as they are.

It certainly has a fine pedigree in theology graduates and teachers: Tyndale (he didn’t rate his time at Oxford), Cranmer, Ridley. Latimer (all three who suffered the ultimate indignity for Cambridge men to be martyred in…Oxford) Wesley…before they started majoring in “spying for the Soviets”.

In contrast, other than Wycliffe, Oxford’s main ‘achievements’ on the theology front seems to have been Reginald Pole, William Laud and Anglo-Catholicism.
