A smart appointment by Labour

The Herald reports:

Andrew Kirton has been selected as the Labour Party’s new general secretary.

Mr Kirton is a former adviser to Helen Clark and a former president of the New Zealand students’ union.

So he’s come back to work for two other former NZUSA presidents.

More recently, he was head of public affairs for Heathrow Airport and head of global corporate affairs for construction company Mace Group in London.

Kirton is known to have good political skills and his corporate background will help Labour with their fundraising. It looks to be a solid appointment.
