Both Herald and RNZ web sites carrying very pointed articles on Mr Trump this morning.

Du Plessis Allan and Phil Smith appear unhealthily obsessed with the Republican nominee.

Du Plessis is putting a bit of Hitler into her article – what both of these morons don’t seem to understand is that you get people like Trump when bad policy is foisted upon a populace without their say-so. Strong reactions follow foolish politicians as sure as night follows day.

Anti immigration hatred is happening all over Europe, why wouldn’t it happen in the US? And for that matter why wouldn’t it happen here? That’s what you get if you swamp a country with aliens, or allow it to happen.

I wonder if the defamation laws provide for the news organisations that broadcast the libel and slander to be included in the action if they were careless as to whether or not the statement(s) were true?

If not there probably should be.

the Media wait till the Nicky Hager Bull shit has died a natural death to hide this apology.

And at the very least, even if an action isn’t taken due to withdrawel, the injured party should be able to require all the media that participated in the broadcast give the same airtime to any retraction as they did to the orginal defamation.

You will be as aware as I am that ANY retraction and ‘apology’ that the MSM give is only ever done so with extreme reluctance, through very closed mouths and with much gritting of teeth. Their view is that ‘The public has a RIGHT to know’ and that this catchall justifies all and any action that they take.

Being ‘caught out’ and having to apologise simply doesn’t fit their (self-appointed) agenda and they fight very, very hard to avoid having to say ‘we’re sorry’ or ‘we got it wrong’.

Oddly, they seem to have absolutely no problems in initiating proceedings against anyone who ‘defames’ THEM!!

I wonder why…

What seems to be happening isn’t that Hillary Clinton is on the rise. Rather, Trump’s popularity is dangerously low for a presumptive presidential nominee at this stage (pre-summer) of the race. And since the start of June, the trend for Trump has been alarming.

Several recent polls confirm this observation. A new Bloomberg Politics national poll shows Clinton leading Trump with 49 percent to 37 percent among likely voters in November’s election. 55 percent of those polled say they could never vote for the real-estate developer and TV personality. Women are a majority of voters, and a full 63 percent of them say they could never vote for Trump.

Then there is the latest Washington Post/ABC News poll showing that negative views of Trump have surged to 70 percent, their highest level of the 2016 campaign. (Hillary Clinton’s are at 55 percent.) It’s not only that Trump’s negatives are sky-high; it’s also that a majority of those who have negative impressions of him (56 percent) hold those views “strongly.”

Yuuuuuggggeeee.

I realise that “conventional” or common wisdom has been wrong for months now on Trump. Certainly I have been. But I always thought it was a matter of the averages catching up with the outlying result. I’d hoped that would be during the GOP nomination – but I guess it has to be during the general.

This should be a moment, late spring/early summer, when Trump is consolidating Republican support and fortifying his position. Instead, the empirical evidence shows he is in perfectly awful shape, as weak and vulnerable as any major presidential candidate in decades. He is positioned to be wiped out in November, despite the fact that Mrs. Clinton is a bad candidate with much baggage.

He has almost no money to spend in countering Clinton’s war chest – because he didn’t think that mattered with his strategy of saying something outrageous every day to own the 24-48 news cycle – and as with Obama in 2012 she’s going to spend all of June drenching Trump in even more negatives.

Trump looking good in the polls a month ago was simply a reflection of the Bernie Bros not yet getting on board for Hillary. The same shite I heard in 2008; how all the supporters of the other candidate (Clinton then) were so angry and hurt they would not vote for the nominee (then Obama). Doesn’t work that way folks. Tribalism rules.

Plus personal distaste.

Then as late as possible issue a quiet retraction, apologise before the papers arrived from the defamed persons lawyers and play the whole thing down.

But the worm of the lie is still alive out there working its way around as gossip among those who don’t really follow the mass media much and the quiet apology nevers makes it way to them. So is still TRUE to many. And the corruption meme grows.

Berlin (AFP) – German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier has criticised NATO for having a bellicose policy towards Russia, describing it as “warmongering”, the German daily Bild reported.

Steinmeier pointed to the deployment of NATO troops near borders with Russia in the military alliance’s Baltic and east European member states.

“What we should avoid today is inflaming the situation by warmongering and stomping boots,” Steinmeier told Bild in an interview to be published Sunday.

“Anyone who thinks you can increase security in the alliance with symbolic parades of tanks near the eastern borders, is mistaken,” Germany’s top diplomat added.

Was out at dinner with friends last night and given the British connections of one couple we had an interesting discussion of Brexit. It really is a big political issue but I’ve found myself just not following it – possibly because I think the referendum will simply be overridden by the British Parliament if the result is for Britain to leave.

In any case the question my wife and I asked what was driving Brexit – and this couple had no hesitation in their one word answer: immigration.

With that in mind I thought this article by Megan McArdle in Bloomberg was very good in that she writes not just of the Brexit debate but the general implications across the Western world. Bear in mind that McArdle is an economist and is known as a thoughtful and non-inflammatory writer.

Around 1:30 Monday morning, a budget jet brought me to Luton, where I stayed overnight. The next leg of my travel did not begin until late afternoon, and so I took the opportunity to walk around the area near the Mall Luton, which turned out to be a very good place to think about Brexit.

Perhaps it had been real in the past, like cholera and telegraph machines, but now that we were smarter and more modern, it would be forgotten in the due course of time as better ideas supplanted it.

That now seems hopelessly naive.

For though elites may find something vaguely horrifying about saying that you care more about people who are like you than you do about people who are culturally or geographically further away, the rest of the population is outraged by the never-stated corollary: that the elites running things feel no greater moral obligation to their fellow countrymen than they do to some random stranger in another country.

And perhaps we can argue that this is the morally correct way to feel — but if it is truly the case, you can see why ordinary folks would be suspicious about allowing the elites to continue to exercise great power over their lives.

‘Death to traitors, freedom for Britain’

The man charged with shooting and stabbing to death a rising star of British politics gave his name Saturday as “death to traitors, freedom for Britain” during his first court appearance since the killing stunned this nation on Thursday.

Thomas Mair, 52, made the comment when a judge asked for his name in a London magistrate’s court. Mair was officially charged Saturday with the murder of Jo Cox, a 41-year-old member of the center-left Labour Party who had been an outspoken advocate for refugees, immigrants and Britain’s continued membership in the European Union.

Mair’s statement adds considerable weight to the theory that Cox’s killing was a politically motivated, far-right attack just a week before Britain is to vote on the highly contentious question of whether the country should stay in the E.U.

Although neighbors and family members have described Mair as apolitical, watchdog groups have unearthed evidence of decades-long affiliations with neo-Nazi and white supremacist organizations.

Prosecutors said Saturday that they had found extreme right-wing literature during a search of Mair’s house, Britain’s Guardian newspaper reported. They also said that Mair told police during his arrest, which came moments after the attack on Cox, that he was “a political activist.”

Lucia – the whole Jo Cox killed by Far Right extremists fails the basic sniff test. What does the far right want? An end to immigration. What would a Brexit at least partial deliver – an end to immigration. Why would sponsoring a killing help their cause? It won’t.

The truth behind why this guy did what he did is going to take a long time to surface, but it is a god send for the remain bloc in the brexit vote.

“She said the number of people on the SIS’ active watchlist had not changed since 2014 and remained at 30-40 people. The SIS was usually also pursuing between 60-70 leads passed on by other agencies or the public to assess whether somebody was enough of a threat to be put on the watchlist.”

Santa Monica; Two police officers who wish to remain anonymous for fear of retaliation say that James Wesley Howell, an Indiana man who was found with a car full of explosives and weapons on Sunday morning, told police he was part of a team that planned shooting attacks on gay communities in Florida and California.

Howell told police he was turning himself in because he wanted protection. His story was that he had been assured by his recruiters that he would not be harmed in the shooting but, when he heard on the news that Omar Mateen, the lead gunman in the Orlando group, had been killed by sniper fire, he realized he was being set up as a patsy and would be killed.

Soon after that, the FBI took over the investigation, and information to the public was filtered to remove any facts that might show the Orlando shooting as a planned event involving others…

I wouldn’t have thought that it would have made much impact on the Brexit vote. While as the warning from the Bank of England (see Brexit poses global financial risk, Bank of England warns ) and the IMF (see IMF Revives Recession Warning for U.K. Economy Over Brexit Vote), of a major recession in Britain, and quite possibly on international markets that might affect us should give a whole lot more people pause.

Just about every week in Parliamentary Question time you hear Labours Finance Spokesman Grant Robertson wofling on about how NZ Trade is not in good shape due to the downturn in Dairy.So as this idiot only likes listening to his own voice he forgets the good happenings in other Trade
Sectors like this on “Wine Sales Surging Towards $2 Billion A Year” wine has doubled it’s earnings in the past decade according to ANZ Agri Focus report, sales of $1.97 Billion a year and has had a Annual growth of 8.4% in the last 10years.Well isn’t this great for National as diversity in NZ Trade is bringing good results in other business ventures to the table

EDIT: I have since read there was a rugby test in Oz. Why would that greatly concern NZers?

Of course the writer has a point. The immigrants to the USA went to basically an empty space and started a new life and country from scratch not hindered by any history related to that land. Of course there were the American Indians there but relatively speaking it was a very sparse population.
Also when the mass immigration to the USA occurred there was a wide range of nationalities and cultures arriving at basically the same time and they just had to get with each other to survive.
In Europe they have thousands of years of history attached to every village, in most cases. So of course there is going to major issues when people of a significantly different culture move into the area.
For people not understand this very basic difference seems incredible to me.
Even in the USA today we are seeing similar issues when they “only” have 2-3 hundred years of history to look at.

For her West Yorkshire constituency is near the epicentre of the Muslim child rape epidemic that has been sweeping the Labour heartlands of northern England, largely ignored or covered up by social services workers, police and politicians.

For it is a striking omission that of all the subjects she enjoyed sounding off on, this world-famous crisis affecting the poorest Whites on her doorstep was not one of them. One cannot help wonder if this shrewd silence was connected to the fact that her lavishly paid MPs job in the constituency of Batley and Spen largely depended on the support of the local Muslim community.

Boy these big decisions are really dangerous for MPs, aren’t they. Guess some people just don’t like it when the sheeple give signs of getting uppity and falling out of the line that so much time and money has been spent laying out to them. That will often happen at scrum time EXCEPT for the front row ( I think that is against the rules especially in internationals , super rugby etc. –basically it is a player safety issue) I can recall Nonu putting his weight, at times in recent years –especially when the scrum is near the try line.

Generally just not a good idea – backs usually have the wrong body shape for the tight five, and dropping one into a loose forward role creates an automatic overlap for the opposition backs at set pieces. That said, there might be specific scenarios where it might work (e.g., attempting a push over try at scrum).

Only specialist front-rowers can play in that position in all grades of rugby. Teams have top specify front-row replacements on the team sheet. If a front rower cannot be replaced by a trained player, the scrums are de-powered (golden oldies). Any other player may join a scrum, but I think it’s just a maximum of 8 players allowed.

Interesting: a couple of hours ago Stuff had an article by Liz Gunn, ex-NewstalkZB broadcaster who once worked with Hosking but left in 2001. She has taken 15 years to finally rubbish him for his attitude.
The headline was “Former colleague accuses Hosking of ‘overt’ workplace bullying.”
I commented on this article but now see that it has been deleted and another link put in its place.
Maybe it wasn’t quite legal?

“President Obama’s predictable reaction to the latest heinous, unprovoked terrorist massacre of innocent citizens on American soil would be embarrassing if it weren’t so disgraceful. This man’s term can’t end quickly enough.

There is just no excuse for Obama’s warped moral compass — the way he excuses the culpable. And his judgments are not happening in a vacuum; they are guiding his policies, which are leading to more, not fewer, attacks against us.

After the deadliest mass shooting in the history of the United States — at the hands of an Islamic terrorist at an Orlando, Florida, nightclub — Obama couldn’t sprint to the lectern fast enough to tell Americans not to believe our lying eyes, saying we should view this slaughter through his perverse prism.

Obama has a selfish interest in denying that this was an act of Islamic terrorism by an Islamic terrorist, which would be an admission of the failure of his policies. He has virtually withdrawn the United States from the war on terror unilaterally, operating on the grossly reckless assumption that Islamic terrorism springs from economic motivations, our recent military actions in the Middle East or some other such nonsense.

Obama simply will not identify this (or similar outrageous attacks) as an act of Islamic jihad. He will only say the FBI is investigating it as a generic “act of terrorism.” He said: “We’ve reached no definitive judgment on the precise motivations of the killer. … And I’ve directed that we must spare no effort to determine what — if any — inspiration or association this killer may have had with terrorist groups.”

Anyone with average intelligence and observation skills knows that Islamists are at war with “infidels,” and the United States, being the “Great Satan,” is at the very top of that list. It doesn’t matter what our policies are, and it doesn’t matter how rich or poor these religious ideologues are; they aim to kill those who won’t submit or convert. And this isn’t rank speculation. They tell us this every time they open their mouths.

Obama has this bizarre notion that if we would just be nicer to the terrorists — if we’d release the detainees from Guantanamo Bay, if we’d quit intervening in other nations’ internal affairs (oops, scratch that one, because Obama gets to violate this at will) and if we’d renounce the use of enhanced interrogation techniques — the terrorists would come around, or at least their ability to recruit would be diminished. I’m sorry, but I didn’t realize the United States has been inciting Islamic terrorists since the seventh century.

As with almost every other tragic event, Obama is exploiting this as a platform to preach on gun control. He said: “This massacre is … a further reminder of how easy it is for someone to get their hands on a weapon that lets them shoot people in a school or in a house of worship or a movie theater or in a nightclub. And we have to decide if that’s the kind of country we want to be. And to actively do nothing is a decision, as well.”

This is unspeakably grotesque. Why must Obama and the left always go here? Why must they always blame the hardware — the inanimate objects — rather than the people pulling the triggers? And for the information of this self-styled constitutional law professor, we decided at our founding that we were going to be the kind of country that has a robust right to bear arms.

Just as objectionably, Obama said, “We need to demonstrate that we are defined more — as a country — by the way they lived their lives than by the hate of the man who took them from us.”

So Americans who had nothing to do with this mass killing have the burden of proving we are not defined by the hate of the terrorist? This really takes the cake. There are no words to sufficiently describe this insanity. Americans in general have nothing to prove here. It is leftist officeholders and their enablers who must explain why they won’t take the handcuffs off our military, law enforcement and intelligence services and have the government do its job of protecting and defending the United States and its citizens.

More than access to guns, Obama’s insistence on keeping our heads in the sand and tying our hands behind our backs is imperiling all of us. Inviting the invasion of our borders without regard for who represents a danger to Americans, refusing to identify our enemy and playing footsie with the Islamic State group overseas are imperiling Americans. If anyone needs a lecture, it’s not ordinary Americans; it’s Obama and his fellow finger-wagging leftists, who keep mouthing their mantra that we need to examine ourselves to see what we are doing to cause these acts.

No, they need to examine themselves, apologize to the rest of us and get out of the way so that the adults in this nation can take the imperative steps to identify the enemy, fight the war and defend America and Americans.”

(Having said that it is possible a lower grade game could have someone playing in the backs who legitimately was usually, or used to be, a front rower. Not trying to complicate the issue!))

I am relying on that Local Government and Environment Select Committee Report to support my rates case Appeal (hearing 6 July 2016 Auckland High Court).

To my knowledge it is the first time someone has focused on the failure of a Council to comply with the statutory requirements of the Public Records Act 2005 (s.17), as a reason for disputing and refusing to pay rates.

All I have ever wanted, is to know EXACTLY where public rates monies have been paid on private sector consultants and contractors by Auckland Council
(previously Auckland City Council) and Auckland Council Controlled Organisations (CCOs).

I’m not budging until the following information is made available, on the front page of Auckland Council and CCO websites, under ‘Procurement – Awarded Contracts’:

The unique contract number.

The name of the consultant / contractor.

A brief description of the scope of the contract.

The contract start and finish dates.

The exact dollar value of every contract, including those sub-contracted.

How the contract was awarded, by public tender or direct appointment.

I commented on the select committee report yesterday. The report authors made no specific findings, and proposed no further specific action, as a result of the matters that Penny raised. The select committee report is completely irrelevant to the matter to be considered by the High Court on 6 July. Penny is deluding herself if she expects a High Court judge to take any notice of a vague report about Auckland Council’s recordkeeping practices under one statute, written by politicians, as somehow being relevant to a straightforward statutory interpretation issue about rate payment obligations under a different statute.

Currently the technology company operates at Wellington Airport under the threat of trespass, as in picking up passengers they avoid paying the $5 fee faced by regular taxis.

Just about every week in Parliamentary Question time you hear Labours Finance Spokesman Grant Robertson wofling on about how NZ Trade is not in good shape due to the downturn in Dairy.So as this idiot only likes listening to his own voice he forgets the good happenings in other Trade
Sectors like this on “Wine Sales Surging Towards $2 Billion A Year” wine has doubled it’s earnings in the past decade according to ANZ Agri Focus report, sales of $1.97 Billion a year and has had a Annual growth of 8.4% in the last 10years.Well isn’t this great for National as diversity in NZ Trade is bringing good results in other business ventures to the table

Except the 8.4% in 10 years ain’t that great and that most of the wineries are now owned by oversea’s interests doesn’t do much for NZ.
Wonder how much tax they pay into the IRD in NZ?

Montana ,Craggy range, Sacred hill, Trinity, Matua , Ponder, Crawford, Framingham, Palliser, Te Awa , Gibston, Nobilo, Cloudy Bay are all owned (by 50+ %) by overseas intrests.
Of the biggies only Villa Maria and Delgats are NZ owned I think.

At least Te Mata is still 100% Kiwi. I love that Bullnose.
