Mandela was a great man. … However, while he was the most prominent and successful leader of the anti-apartheid struggle and spent almost three decades in prison as a result, when we look at his legacy as South Africa’s post-apartheid leader we must acknowledge serious failings.

The South Africa Mandela has left is one where all people enjoy civil and political rights, vitally important elements for democracy, but without significant economic change which would have made life better for the majority of South Africans.

What sort of “significant economic change” do you suppose Minto was referring to?

(Hint: The following author statement appears at the bottom of the article – “John Minto was a leading anti-apartheid activist and is vice-chair of the Mana Movement.)

What happens when you take the guns away from the oppressors and give them to the oppressed? They just changed the colour of the faces in power and didn’t make any significant economic reforms – so little changed in terms of the huge chasm of equality of opportunity that had been created under apartheid. Communism wouldn’t have helped – it’s totalitarian nonsense. I know Minto is left of left but I haven’t seen anything that points to him supporting hard out communism. I do believe he was genuinely passionate about the plight of black South Africans.

Maggy,

I find it incredible that the number of teachers with a computer science degree is as high as 11%, especially when you take the typical salary of a teacher and compare it to the typical salary of an IT person.

GUYON OK, let’s talk about some of those economic ideas that you did raise in my first question. You want a maximum wage of 10 times the minimum wage – minimum wage about 25,000 – so you want a maximum wage so that anyone who earns a dollar over $250,000 pays 100% tax to the government.

JOHN That’s one of the ideas that’s in our draft policy, yes.

100% tax to the government = communism.

GUYON Hone Harawira says that we should nationalise monopolies and duopolies. Do you agree with that?

JOHN Well, I think those are- In some cases, yes. I think essential infrastructure in New Zealand should be nationalised. It should be brought back under community.

GUYON Because you could argue that the supermarkets are a duopoly in New Zealand. I mean-

JOHN Well, you could argue that.

GUYON Should the government own those?

JOHN Well, at the moment, that’s not Mana policy, but those are issues which are being developed.

He avoids answering the question directly, but government-owned supermarkets = communism.

GUYON From what I’ve read of your political ideology, it looks like you’re arguing Marxism or communism. Would you accept that?

JOHN No, we’re not arguing-

GUYON I mean that is the ideology that you’re putting forward.

JOHN Well, I wouldn’t put a label- I don’t think labels are helpful. What we’re putting forward are policies, and you could put, you know- if you use those labels, it’s fine, but the-

GUYON Do you describe yourself as someone who supports capitalism?

JOHN No. I think that capitalism- the free market has its place, but it doesn’t have its place in essential infrastructure, and it doesn’t have its place in providing the opportunities for massive amounts of unearned income to be taken untaxed by a group of people. So we’re putting forward policies; we’re not putting forward ideologies.

Again he avoids answering the question directly, but he supports communist policies.

Obama worse than Nixon

So the race-baiting Pres does his very best to make the incoming President Trump look good by stirring up a race war .

So Obama’s triumphs:
– united the people against him to the extent that both the senate and the house of reps is a closed door
– got lying, leaking Hillary off her indictment with the help of a dodgy (purely coincidentally black) A-G
– sold the US interests down the river to Iran (who immediately broke the agreement and carry on doing so)
– continues to create policy vacuums that lead to floods of Mexican and muslim immigrants to the US
– talks down to the Brits and was probably the single biggest factor in tipping the balance in favour of Brexit
– tops it all off with failing to condemn racist murderers of law enforcement officers triggering nationwide hate riots

/golfclap to Hussain Obama. The answer is “No you couldn’t!”.

And the best the Democrats can come up with? The only candidate that might actually make Obama look good! And the fascists on the left can’t understand the rise of Trump. Physician, heal thyself!

Obama worse than Nixon

Obama’s record on race relations speaks for itself – in the eighth year of a presidency that was meant to transform race relations in America they have clearly, as illustrated by the Dallas shootings, gone backwards.

But Nixon? The son of Quaker patents who consistently and at cost backed Civil Rights long before the Democrats were dragged kicking and screaming to what was right? No way! RMN may have had a healthy cynicism of what we now call identity politics and the left-wing intelligentsia who help promote it, but there is no way Nixon deserves to be spoken in the same breath as Obama. And if only someone would take the sage advice of Nixon’s administration that what is best for the black community in America is a period of “benign neglect”.

As in most of life, deeds count greater than words (even when they are recorded on subpoenaed tapes 😉 ). On that basis, at the resurrection Richard Nixon can hold his head high for what he did for US race relations. Barack Obama? Likely not so much…
