Lyin’ media been lyin’ to us about Trump all the while

In no surprise at all to the sane among society, that the latest Rasmussen poll shows that the all-out propaganda war waged by the MSM against Trump is not having much effect on the US voters as Trump support weathers the storm.

It’s not that Clinton is a horribly unelectable candidate. A liar, plagued by mistrust, funded by the chief purveyors of muslim imperialism (the House of Saud), an apologist for urban terrorism and an apologist for violence to women in all forms.

It’s not that Trump is a good candidate. In my view he’s not well suited to be president.

It’s that the average US citizen is sick of:
– made-up socialist thought-crimes dressed up as political correctness
– made-up theories about globalisation benefitting them (it doesn’t! it makes them unemployed!)
– being asked to trust totally untrustworthy bought political shills like Clinton, Obama and the Bushes
– being lied to by the media (you know, the ones whose owners want their ‘bought’ candidates to keep on doing their bidding)
– being lied to about the latest ‘Chicken Little’ fear theory to keep the voters compliant (yes Climate Alarmism).

Trump is gaining ground because he is the Anti-candidate. He is the opposite to all the crap political insiders that have gone before him. The cretins on the left don’t get it – but he’s what they wanted all along. He is the first sign that the comfy post-war political accord that has pulled the US into mediocrity is over.

Trump’s real offence in the eyes of the political insiders and the MSM is he has widespread popular appeal (remember Katie Bradford on Key “no matter what we say or what we do, the polls don’t change”).

The reason there is a propaganda war being waged against Trump is that he just won’t do as he’s told!

Imagine how awful that would be, a President who is answerable to the voters and not to the big money funders.

No wonder everyone is so worried about this!

  It’s become something of joke when the Elites use the word ”populist” in a pejorative sense, meaning it’s morally wrong to be popular.
  
  However, from their perspective it’s no joke, because these populists, Trump being the big one, are bringing into question their right to rule us, their right to reshape the world and its populations as they see fit.
  
  Do people ever just wonder why do they have that right and from where did it come and upon what does this power rest?
  
  In the end it’s just money and media control, nothing else, and it will have to be taken away from them, in the end.

  I agree with you on Hillary. She just wants to run out the clock till election day, attend fundraisers to make even more money than she has now and if she does a speech half of the content is to bash Donald Trump.
  
  I think Donald Trump has done a real pivot to the centre, particularly on immigration, where he is going to win over the centrist voter who is concerned about immigration but still wants to be politically correct while doing so. Trump has visited the Mexican president, showed himself as presidential, and then got home and delivered a major speech on immigration which has been well received even by his conservative critics on the right.
  
  The essence of Trump’s position on immigration appears to be – build a wall and enforce the border, immediately get rid of criminal alien elements and actually enforce the immigration laws already on the books. When the border is secure and the flood of illegal immigration has stopped and is a memory then anyone left in the United States who is still an illegal immigrant their fate can then be decided. This is important because any move to Amnesty, which is the Democrat position, will act as a vacuum pump to bring even more illegal immigrants to the United States.
  
  Obama’s position on immigration has been hopeless and is one of the key reasons for the rise of Trump. Trump’s position on immigration is now very strong and even his most vociferous conservative critics give him grudging respect.
  
  Trump is on a roll for the general election. Hillary is not well and cannot respond.

      Good point Mikey – the polls are tightening, Trump has momentum, Trump is in Mexico talking to the Mexican president, Trump delivers a great speech on immigration – it’s all Trump, all the way.
      
      Hillary hasn’t got the energy to do anything except fund raise which is wired into the Clinton DNA. She hasn’t done a press conference in 2016! She can barely fill a high school gym for her occasional rallies. Even the liberal mainstream press are going after her – when will you hold a press conference? Even the mainstream media realise she missed an opportunity to go and visit the Mexican president. But she’s too busy Mikey – it’s time for her afternoon nap!?

    His speech reinforced his intent to deport all 11M illegals. He was told off by Sarah Palin for appearing to go lax on this, with a focus on removing only those who had committed crimes, so he re-asserted his first position to deport all of them.

  Good comments. I think Trump is very well suited to be potus. He’s run a huge, successful organization with thousands of employees. He’s got some great USA centric policy proposals. He’s not running to be potus because he wants to be “the uniparty” club; he loves the USA. The USA’s “system” is SUPPOSED to have people from all walks of life ELECTED to serve temporarily – NOT professional (bought and paid for) “politicians”.         Just replying to Mikey – sure Clinton got a big bounce following her convention and 2 weeks of the mainstream media viciously piling on Trump for every single syllable he uttered.
        But since then Clinton has been hit with more email revelations and the expose of the Clinton foundation and the expose that she is tired and probably not well.
        While Trump has hit his straps with better speeches, laying out his policy on immigration and not going off script so often.
        
        The latest Rasmussen poll has Trump up by one. There is still plenty of time till November for Trump’s numbers to rise and Hillary’s to continue to sink.

Okay space fans, here’s your latest launchpad explosion in HD, courtesy of Space X, from just a few hours ago. Start at 1:00 in to save time.

Seems they were about to launch a satellite for Facebook (they need their own?), when the fueling went wrong. While I feel for Elon Musk, I’m not sorry that Facebook takes a hit.

The camera is about 4km away and so the way the explosion shakes it is…. impressive.

No humans were harmed in the fueling of this rocket.

    Solarcity is a farce, and Tesla was always going to be trying to crack an awfully tough nut in making electric cars mainstream and profitable. Developments will continue to be incremental and while Musk has shown the way with Tesla (electric cars can be cool to look at), his company could fall by the wayside as things develop, just as in any new industry.
    
    But SpaceX is the real deal. They’ve already wowed the industry with cost savings combined with launch success rates that nobody thought possible, and they continue to push hard on all that. Still a lot of bugs to work out in the reusable rocket area but the progress they’ve made has been impressive. Can’t wait to see the Falcon Heavy make its debut, and get astronauts to the ISS and back via the Dragon spacecraft.

        I am laughing at you thinking that Porsche is in the running with a concept car not even a preproduction model yet. Tesla already has a real car you can buy today that out preforms the concept by a large margin .
        When Porsche finally gets into production the Telsa it will be competing against will be still faster and have even more range than today’s car. Tesla have a policy to upgrade the car every year or so by the time Porsche is on the shop floors Tesla will be selling a p120d .
        As well Telsa have a huge network of fast chargers allowing free long distance travel in major markets already in place. Porsche has a unique charging system that they will need to build from scratch to compete

    Yeah – but I was looking solely at SpaceX in saying that. I suppose you could argue that there is a “subsidy” from the US government when it comes to the ISS freight contracts, but the space station is there already, has to be serviced, and the only alternative is the Russians, who have used the monopoly they’ve had since the retirement of the Shuttle to cash in.
    
    And in the private sector launch world, Musk has beaten the competition openly and honestly.
    
    As far as Facebook is concerned – if it collapsed tomorrow I’d rejoice.

      Well Stephie, when I was at Otago University, Maori Graduates + those from other low IQ populations (i.e Pacific Islands etc.) only required 71% (B grade) in 1st year Health Sciences to get into Med School whilst all those from High IQ populations (i.e. European, East Asian) required 86% (an A grade) to get into Med School.
      
      I had smart friends scoring low – mid 80’s averages, just missing the grade for Med school and either having to take the lesser Pharmacy or Physio path whilst (relatively speaking) thick Maori’s got put on the fast track to becoming a Doctor.

        A) Get their on his own capability
        -or-
        B)Get their by climbing the brown ladder
        
        This unfortunately means that Maoris who really do well get tarred with the same brush. If must be somewhat annoying for them.

        When I went through Police College we had a Maori recruit who was a nice guy but “slow”. His Exam results were a mess as he was continually failing them and falling behind with his studies. Another recruit who was not a Maori had slightly better exam results and was in a similar position. Unlike the Maori guy he was really trying to catch up and spent weekends studying. Unfortunately he was eventually dumped from the wing.
        
        The Maori stayed and it was obvious he only graduated because of his race.

      Japanese, English, Russian, and many other thriving languages adopt heaps of words from other languages.
      
      If you have teams of people making up words for everything needed you eventually end up with something approaching an artificial language, like Klingon.
      
      Some Maori inventions seem needless. For example, for Aurora australis.
      
      In English we borrow from the Latin and typically just call the phenomenon “the aurora”, as everyone knows from the context it’s the southern aurora. An older name, southern lights, never really caught on.
      
      In Maori, for Aurora australis, we have from the dictionary in Maggy’s link: “Tahu-nui-a-rangi”, which means something like great sky fire. The translators could just have used “Rakiura”, the Maori name for Stewart Island and which is said to mean glowing skies. However, it would have been more rational still just to borrow “aurora” direct from Latin.

    All living languages invent, borrow and adapt words as necessary. Chinese for ‘credit card’ is ‘xinyong ka’, the first word being original Chinese for ‘credit’ but the second is obviously a transliteration. Chinese for computer is ‘diannao’, literally ‘electric brain’.
    
    Whether or not Maori continues as a living language (I’m sceptical) depends on people’s willingness to use it for everyday purposes and that requires, among other things, continually extending its modern vocabulary.

Mexico’s President Nieto said he had a nice meeting with Donald Trump. He also said that one day he hopes he can afford to meet with Hillary.
Kidding aside, impressive that Trump did a rally in the morning, went to Mexico, had the meeting, flew back and did a major speech at another rally. Hillary doesn’t have the stamina for that. I see she is being poked as people say Trump has had more press conferences in Mexico this year than Hillary in the US! Not sure her strategy of hiding is working so well. Trump is seizing all the iinitiative.

  The same sort of question needs to be asked about the c. $1.5m that Sir Ngatata Love has been convicted of misappropriating from his Maori Trust, via a deal that granted property development rights to a company in exchange for a lucrative consultancy in favour of his partner’s company. Will that money ever be recovered from the ‘Knight’ and his partner, the former now said to be ill and the partner excused earlier from trial because of her own illness?
  
  I see that the judge is considering home detention for the convicted Love, probably the right course for a now 78-year-old. But maybe that could be made more realistic by repayment of the c. $1.5m from sale of the waterfront mansion at Plimmerton that the crime is said to have financed.

      The Court case has already found that the Trust lost money through deception. The money went to Love’s partner’s company, and from there to pay off the mortgage on a luxury Plimmerton lakefront property. All that’s needed is for the Love-birds to sell that property and pay back the ill-gotten gains.
      
      If Love and partner are not prepared to do that, now, then a prison term for Love should become automatic. This was theft for personal enrichment on a substantial scale.

      I’m not so sure about that Ed. When the impeachment thing first came up there were plenty of articles about some of the deeply unpleasant things a number of legislators came up with.
      One of them dedicated his vote to one of the most notorious torturers under the old military regimes. Rousseff, of course, was one of the victims of that torture.
      It seems that Rousseff is in fact guilty of what is alleged. Illegally transferring money from state enterprises to fund other agencies. As far a Brazilian corruption goes, that’s pretty small beer.
      However, the takeaway for Kiwibloggers will probably be ‘leftist’ president impeached – yay!

  Dime, you DO realise, of course, that there is a very distinct possibility that she will do a ‘no show’ and that it will all be Mr. Trump’s fault should that occur. In respect of her ‘stability’ (both physical and mental) there would indeed seem to be a distinct possibility of a ‘melt-down’ on stage as (if the ‘experts’ are to be believed) her ‘condition’ is one which reacts very badly to multiple questions and strobe-type lights. This could possibly explain her very noticeable absence over the last few days and the complete lack of press conferences for the past 280 + days. With that in mind (and because it would be their worst nightmare), no doubt her ‘handlers’ are trying to cover all and any possibilities that could conceivably occur, to ensure that she both makes it through the session and doesn’t say something compromising. No doubt ‘dirty tricks’ will also be being considered. Of course, no one has told ‘The Donald’ that she should be ‘handled with kid gloves’ so the debate could be more interesting than usual. No doubt the ‘Clinton Media’ have already been briefed in respect of their roles, and, should she ‘fail’ the headlines denigrating Mr Trump have already been prepared,. Scripts must be followed and ideologies persued. No deviation is permitted.

I wonder if MSM would find it funny if we started a campaign for the tax department to do audit on TV Stations, Newspapers, TV Hosts and Journalists and i would think you would find they would create a outrage. The reason i say this is because they scream about privacy but never worry about it when they decide to go after the wealthy or business they think and push their own agenda but criticise when others push their story.I personally think some worms would crawl out of the woodwork if the tax department put them on notice and Journalists that lack ethics would be put on notice to improve their skills

MSM here in NZ are very selective concerning their reporting or else it’s police censorship at its worse.

The armed special person that has just been arrested up north had stolen a police car at gun point after the unarmed cops ran off.

Apart from the first day when it happened there has been no mention of the Police car being taken at gun point and they only referred to several cars being stolen.

The more I think about it and hearing about our Police involved in other blatant cover ups I have this sinking feeling that Joe public is being lied to by those that protect us.

I am picking that as it was a Court Liquidation, and in line with the Official Liquidators Report he paid back sweet fuck all.   The tax debt for Unite Union was a completely separate issue.
  
  The Council of Trade Unions wants an explanation from Unite on why it failed to pay the IRD more than $36,000 in PAYE on behalf of its employees.
  
  Unite, one of New Zealand’s largest unions, owed IRD over $130,000 for the year ended March 2009 (its most recent filing), including more than $57,000 in unpaid GST. For the same financial year its liabilities outweighed its assets by more than $170,000.
  
  Unite head Matt McCarten confirmed yesterday that the union owed money to the IRD but said he had made choices to pay for union campaigns rather than clear the debt. “I don’t shy away from these decisions, I make the calls.”
  
  He said Unite paid $8000 in PAYE each month to the IRD but kept incurring late payment penalties. He claimed not to know exactly how much it owed the IRD.

“It was a turning point in the radicalisation process,” says Naseem. “Local Islamists were very clever in their use of the tragedy to convince Maldivians that the tsunami was punishment from Allah for not practising the ‘right’ Islam – which is the ‘purist’ Islam that Salafis and other fundamentalists want all Muslims to turn to.

“Bikinis, alcohol sales and consumption, unmarried and homosexual sex are all permitted in tourist resorts,” says Velezinee, “but they are all crimes outside resorts.”

  Locals have always been allowed to visit resorts but are not allowed to consume alcohol or pork like the tourists. Homosexuality has always been illegal. And women have always been forbidden by law from marrying non-Muslims. Converts from Islam face jail. And yes, some have been radicalised recently to the extent of joining ISIS.
  
  But Maldives is an interesting one as its Islam was very localised and developed in isolation to other Muslims. For example, until recently you could essentially divorce your wife on the spot in what was a form of legalised adultery something like what Jesus was criticising in religiously legalistic 1st Century Judaism in Matthew 19: 9:
  
  I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife (Kimbo explication: with the intent of marrying another!) , except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery.
  
  Back to Maldives – the former President Gayoom was brilliant, with many of the political instincts of, say, John Key. A model of a secularised modernising Muslim leader who had to be careful he did not go too far so he became isolated from his support-base. But he clamped down and banned the hijab. It was a common rumour in the Maldives, for example, that he was a closet-Christian hence his attempts to reform and dilute the local religion and culture, which functions in much the same way as Christianity in the Pacific islands.

      Um, in the main it is a “lifestyle” the locals choose….and scare-mongering aside it is not bleak – just what in the Pacific Islands is called “the traditional way of life”.
      
      Maldivians are free to travel and do. Their kids regularly study and gain tertiary degrees overseas. They are not ruled from above like the Taliban. More, like many localised traditional people groups, they are juggling modernity with a natural inclination for conservatism. Nonetheless, some going off the deep end and linking up with ISIS is a problem…

    THEY call it the “sunny side of life”, but if the figures are anything to go by, this island paradise is more like the bitter side of life.
    
    While the Maldives, a set of 1200 islands nestled within the Indian Ocean, is set along a background of beaches, blue lagoons, and tropical bliss, it holds a Guiness World Record that might come as a surprise.
    
    While the islands are a sought-after attraction for the perfectly picturesque wedding, its locals haven’t quite mastered the art of monogamy, and so it’s earned the trophy for the highest divorce rate in the world.
    
    In fact, the UN says the average 30-year-old Maldivian woman has been divorced — wait for it — THREE times. That’s 11 divorces per 1000 people. Every. Single. Year.
    
    The rate is twice as high as second placed Belarus. The United States, sitting pretty in third place, are less than half of the Maldives’ numbers with approximately four divorces per thousand.
    
    And if you thought those figures were depressing enough, the reason why takes the cake (and not the wedding variety).
    
    The Maldives is a Muslim country and runs under Sharia’ah Law, so premarital sex is severely frowned upon. So by the time kids turn 18, they’re simply just incredibly “horny”, Anthony Marcus, chair of the anthropology department at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, told Ozy.com.
    
    So the easy — and respectable — way to get laid is to simply just get married. According to Mr Marcus, weddings aren’t such a big deal in the Maldives. Ten bucks will get you a judge, a marriage certificate, and a license to get freaky in the sheets.
    
    Then again, the honeymoon doesn’t always last — and so the country finds itself spinning around a wheel of broken hearts — and eventually, broken marriages.
    
    And if you couldn’t tell — getting a divorce in the country is relatively easy; if you’re a guy, especially so.
    
    A Maldivian man simply needs to state he is getting a divorce out loud and in front of a witness. No messy paperwork here. Yet a woman can only seek divorce through the courts — and if a judge agrees the grounds are justified.
    
    The good news among all this marriage mess? The U.N. and the Maldivian government are now offering counselling to those who care to give the relationship a red hot crack. Results though, are yet to be seen.

The hijab is standard, but not compulsory, although some/many families and especially fathers and husbands do expect/pressure their daughters and wives to wear it in line with traditional customs of dress and relationships between the sexes
    
    President Gayoom, who had risen to office on his Muslim credentials – and thereafter declared himself as the Supreme Authority on Islamic Affairs – had by then begun to regulate religion through the state, whereby Islamic issues could only be discussed by an authorised few who followed, and subsequently preached, his prescribed form of Islam. As such, Islam, despite its many variations, was essentially fed to the people of the Maldives as hegemonic. The president’s oft-repeated slogan became a reference to how “homogenous” the Maldives was.
    
    The newly-arrived scholars had brought with them a diversity of ideologies from Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Qatar, Kuwait, Libya and Egypt, and to each, his version of Islam represented the absolute truth. Furtive dissent to Gayoom’s form of Islam slowly emerged and grew. By the 1990s, women were beginning to wear the full burqa. The president reacted by officially banning the covering of the face – purportedly in the name of security

Did the earth move for you this morning? It certainly was a decent shake over here in Whanganui, and our visitor from Christchurch was somewhat unimpressed!

Civil Defence can’t win in a situation like this. If they are conservative with their warnings and things turn badly, they would get pilloried for it. Likewise, they get criticised for alerting people to a “possible” scenario which doesn’t eventuate, leading to allegations of scaremongering.

And if you want to know why they warn people away from waterways as well as the coast, check out this video. If you don’t want to watch the whole 25 minutes, go through to about 8 min when you see the bridge across the river, the camera pans away, there is a creaking noise and some shouts from onlookers, and the camera pans back to where the bridge used to be; it’s pretty sobering…

    Interesting, not really a problem at 20 cms, looks worse in that video because it is across mudflats; and even in shallow water there’s no trouble riding over a small one, I’ve also done that.
    
    The real problems come because it’s not a wave really but a surge, like a medium term lift in sea level for several minutes at least. A large wave hitting the shore dissipates pretty quickly but a Tsunami surge just keeps on going.
    
    there are lots of very graphic videos on the Japanese one especially, and quite a few on the Indian Ocean Boxing day one as well. But the Japanese ones, surges at 10-15 metres, whole houses just being ripped from their foundations and carried inland disintegrating as the go. Horrendous to watch. In some you can see people running, not all of whom escape.

  Agree. No matter what misinformed thinking caused its establishment some 40 or so years ago, the Race Relations/Human Rights Commission has long-since outlived its comparative usefulness and there are other more effective ways to combat racism if and where it exists. Far too much jaw-boning and our race relations would benefit hugely IMHO if those in government adopted a policy of “benign neglect” towards them.

      What if … New Zealanders reported their feelings of discrimination about not having race-based seats for their particular race; what if … people complain about the crusade for race-based local body government; what if … Aucklanders reported about feelings of being outsiders at housing auctions; what if … a former, say, police woman complained about the career destroyed for an off-duty, drunken, racist remark; what if … people piled in with the vast ethnic change occurring in NZ without discussion or political debate or a chance to vote on it.
      
      This “report on fellow Kiwis” campaign isn’t too dissimilar to campaigns the Stasi might have run in East Germany, the Nazis in Germany, or Stalinists in Russia.

Auckland primary school wanting to implement restrictions against ALL students bar one.
That child has “anaphylaxis”, meaning they are severely allergic to kiwifruit, eggs, dairy products and nuts.
So they plan to ask ( implies – prevent) parents to ensure their children bring none of these things onto the school grounds.
So just watch nanny National supporting this egregious PC claptrap.

What an upside down world we are becoming – I would have thought the school should be ensuring (forcing) the parents of the one child to ensure that child does not share anyone else’s food.

    Mikenmild, that’s a fairly wide set of restrictions for everyone else though. No nuts or products that might contain a trace thereof, no dairy (no butter, milk, cheese, yogurt, nothing made with butter like a lot of pastry)…it is almost certainly better to have controls that one child than hundreds of others.
    
    We had some friends whose daughter was dangerously allergic to nuts and stuff; didn’t demand that the school go nut free, gave her a epi-pen equivalent, two in fact, made sure she carried them and knew what do do and when; and the school knew the same. Managed to get (so far) to 19 or so and isn’t dead yet.

Andrea Vance nails it with her comment on the Clark bid for the UN SG position – it aint going to happen. The veto powers do not want a reformer, they would veto the candidacy to protect that power within and over the UN.

I would add a New Zealander led WADA, and Russia will not want that sort of idealism to international standards at the UN. Nor would some of the other veto powers – China would veto anyone from a nation with commitment to collective security, human rights and international law – such as the 200 mile zone.

Vance claims there is animosity towards Clark from a key US figure. Sort of irrelevant because they, France and the UK would veto over anyone who raise the issue of UNSC reform (including their loss of veto power). It’s all the French and UK have left from their imperial past.

As it is, it’s the East European term mantra, though some are proposing a women’s term before an eastern European turn next time around (partly based on east Europe being unstable at the moment and taking partisanship on those matters out of the equation).

So why not Angela Merkel or some Scandinavian (if German aspiration for a permanent seat on the UNSC un-nerved the status quo powers too much).

The first issue the UN SG has to deal with is the matter of Crimea – the UN is a collective of member states with defined borders (though one could argue Taiwan is a longer standing matter of uncertain national borders).

A principled position would be that Crimea has a recognised parliament that authorised a plebescite on whether it would be part of Ukraine or Russia (and this means is preferable to armed insurrection or a war between nation states over Crimea) – if so the same would apply to Taiwan. So that even if it was (as the mainland government claims) part of one China it has an independent parliament and capacity to organise a plebescite on independence.

Known in three dimensional chess as how to divide and conquer the Asian mainland hydra nemesis (Russia and China). Sweetening this proposal with recognition of an eastern Ukraine parliament with the right to organise its own plebescite in the fullness of time would tempt Russian buy in (though it could be argued Russia cannot just formally acquire Crimea without taking on its pro rata share of the historic Ukrainian debt).

        Yeah, I like the thread running this way too. I knew there were sanctions but Russia doesn’t seem to care. Would like to discuss their internal economy which is stated to be trading quite well internally as some economy of scale seems to have been reached ala the Us in the 60’s but have to go out. Another time.Too many resources in Crimea and the Black Sea for the Russians to give way now and good luck to any military action to remove them from Sevastopol. The UN should sort out the corrupt govt in Ukraine and then there might be progress towards peace.

      Like South Ossetia it is under Russian occupation, but not included within Russia.
      
      If Russia was to be consistent (in support of Ossetia independence) it would allow North Ossetia and South Ossetia to merge (thus both Georgia and Russia would lose territory).
      
      However both Russian actions were taken to show support for Serbia over Kosovo (as much against NATO), not for favour of the independence of ethnic peoples in their own affairs.

Discovered a real Trumpist today; person I’ve worked with for a couple of years with whom I’ve had a cordial relationship with:

Started with my slur on certain evangelical Christians I’d had an issue with; having realised my mistake I quickly renounced my prejudice citing Deism as a convenient way to justify my moral outrage. Anyways, the Trumpist was cool with that, as she was with, it turns out, Hitler. I thought I’d Godwinned our exchange by saying my father’s generation often credits Hitler for raising the German nation but it turns out she buys into that credential.

Luckily it was a face to face meeting so I was quite polite and diplomatic but in equal measures shocked.

  My advice: ask her if she believes the world was literally created in six days some 6,000 years ago and then go on to ask if, as per further literal interpretation of the same Scriptures, that
  
  – there was a pre-existent dark watery mass before God created the heavens and the earth
  
  – the earth is a flat disk resting on pillars in “the midst of the waters”
  
  – the heavens/sky is a metal firmament/dome hammered out into shape on a giant anvil
  
  – that hold back “the waters above”
  
  – but with sluice gates in it that can open to release the waters
  
  – and that the sun and the moon rush across

      Likely a Charismatic/Pentecostal if she objected to the term “Happy Clappy”. And they have morphed in the last 40 or so years from a group that was almost entirely other-worldly, to one that seeks, indeed expects God-ordained, prophesied and directed political influence and power- without much of the wisdom gained by other Christian traditions from their centuries of successes and failures to temper the rampant triumphalism.

      …to clarify further, even though abortion was enacted in 1973 by SCOTUS through Roe v Wade, and like banning guns it is practically impossible in the current American pluralistic political environment to amend the constitution to ban it, nonetheless abortion (and to a lesser extent gun control/crime) is the “dog whistle”/wedge issue that tends to steer the voting patterns of conservative Christians, including and especially Pentecostals and Charismatics.
      
      And as the Democrats are generally pro-women’s rights, and pro-gun control and anti-death penalty and longer prison sentences, a Republican candidate has to be a really useless political operator not to pick up their votes, irrespective of any personal religious affiliation. Just turn up to a prayer breakfast and mouth the right words…

Totally off the current topic, but, one has to ask; Where’s Penelope? Her silence over the last few weeks is beyond deafening, especially as she is a self-proclaimed and much vaunted mayoral candidate – at least in her own mind. Curiously, she seems to noticeably seems to be MIA from any ‘Meet the candidates’ meetings that I have managed to find reports on. Did she get finally get up our host’s nose and banned? Did her house get sold? Has the water been turned off? Dis she lose the deposit for her mayoral candidacy? I know we all regard her as being somewhat beyond the pale, but does anyone actually have any idea about what she is doing?

IMHO, this campaign sounds like something a state like the former East Germany would encourage when seeking political dissidents, than something that will be taxpayer funded in the free and democratic society of New Zealand.
