Clinton’s national lead over Trump is now just 3.4% according to RCP. As the polling that takes into account the reopening of the investigation of Clinton’s emails by the FBI comes online we would expect Trump to get closer to Clinton and eventually overtake her. This will then show our in the state polls and more and more states will go into the Trump column.

I have been predicting that Trump will win for some time. I now think it’s going to be yuge 🙂

        Uneducated and Bigot probably is a bit harsh; he’s a typical real estate mogul cum conman with a hefty dash of reality TV frontman thrown in.
        
        Hardly what you’d want as POTUS and certainly wouldn’t be my choice.
        
        But the alternative is a terminally corrupt viciously vindictive incompetent with a penchant for breaking laws just because she likes to flaunt getting away with it as a badge.
        
        Given that choice I’d swallow the vomit and (reluctantly) prefer Trump. At least with Trump you know he ain’t going to get any favours from the press; every act will be scrutinized from every angle and nothing will be covered up. With Clinton you can be quite certain that the pattern of lawbreaking will continue and we the peasants will have this information withheld from us on the basis that it’s not our concern what our betters get up to.

  Interesting discussion about the yuuuge swings in one particular (but well known) poll in the USA, ABC tracking poll “mysteriously” shows 10 point shift toward Trump in one week:
  
  From a 50-38 percent Clinton lead over Donald Trump in the tracking poll’s first four days, Oct. 20-23, it’s a 47-45 percent contest in the latest results. The movement has been in Trump’s favor, +7, while the -3 in Clinton’s support is not significant, given the sample size.
  
  At this stage the polling has largely turned from “registered voters” to “likely voters” – and that’s where things get tricky becuase of so-called “turnout models”:
  
  … how confident are we that we know who will actually vote on election day? If we can’t answer that question with at least a moderate degree of accuracy then the margin of error could be significantly higher than we normally expect. The likely voter model may be getting shoved in one direction or the other by the unlikely voter model.
  
  ABC tossing out a number showing a two point race less than a week after declaring the spread to be twelve seems to bear this out. I still maintain that we’re in uncharted territory here thanks to nominating two candidates with the lowest approval and trust ratings in modern history.

        I wouldn’t doubt that if they though poll rigging in one direction or another was helpful to Clinton then the MSM would not only happily go along they would probably suggest it. Certainly a big lead would help discourage Trump voters, but would it also lead to complacency amongst their own ?
        
        Professional pollsters *shouldn’t* deliberately distort polls, at least not if they care about their reputation. But the level of partisanship is such that I would expect that at least some wouldn’t see that as an issue.

But whether it is good or bad for my country I don’t care; the sight of so many of our main stream media people eating truck loads of humble pie will be worth any sacrifice.

        It’s already flagged as a tightening race, I’ve been a long time believer (not a supporter obviously) that Clinton would what ever (and I do mean what ever) it takes to win and that she would close it out even if closely by fair means or foul.
        
        But it’s not quite a done deal, it will be closer than we think ( I think) and Trump has, maybe, a 30% chance even now.
        
        As I said above, I’d be prepared to suffer Trump and what ever he brings as an alternative to gangster government.

    Remember George Dubya’s re-election with an increased majority? The entire world was ranting in the lead-up, just how fantastic it was going to be to be rid of that dreadful Bush at last, it was a foregone conclusion. Then the American electorate gave the world a large middle finger. I can’t help thinking something like this is happening again.
    
    To Americans, “the establishment” is not just Wall Street, the media, the Democrats, the Republican establishment, etc in the USA itself – it extends to the lefty-dominated trans-national NGO’s and “the rest of the west” with their sell-out long since of conservative and classical liberal principles.   I would love to be able to say he will be a great President,but I have my mis-givings.

    Actually that is not a completely true assessment. One of the most interesting books I have ever read is James Belich’s “Replenishing the Earth: The Anglo World and the Settler Revolution”.
    
    He points out that indeed most of the European empire-building nations did what you are describing; adventurous men went forth pillaging and conquering and retired rich. But the Anglos did something different: ordinary people, especially Dissenting Protestants, uprooted themselves and went forth seeking opportunity to set down roots, with wives and families, in New Worlds based on new egalitarian principles. Anglo colonial populations exploded (faster than African and Asian population explosions that we condemn now) but other European powers never established much in the way of a “commonwealth” of their own kind. The “commonwealth” is different to “empire” in this way.
    
    We need to give a lot more credit to our ancestors even under a non-Nietszchean moral code.

    All the email damage must sureley have been done, except that the reactivation no longer allows them to just say it is history.
    
    Clinton is being peddled as another 8 years of Obama policies. Do they really want that. Obama’s “legacy” is pretty thin:
    
    1) Close Guantanamo Bay within a year… still open.
    2) Finally put racist in the rear-view: racism is bigger now than 40 years ago.
    3) Peace in the Middle East (even got a Nobel Scout Badge for that): Nope, more war-torn than 2008.
    4) More government transparency. Nope. More secrecy and skulduggery than even Nixon and Watergate.
    5) Obamacare: keep your providers, costs won’t go up. Nope. costs up, people have lost options. People are forced to take policies they don’t want, eg. older women forced to take options covering childbirth.

    If a $35k premium for a family of four is going up by 25-75%, and co-payments have increased to the point that many are just not getting healthcare, that is seen by many as the personal price paid and socialised for the 20-odd million who weren’t insured. Phil Goff has told another lie already in saying that Labour have not told him their plan on the Auckland Light Rail, then this morning on Paul Henry that Phil Goff has agreed to their plan as that is what he campaigned on.So the moral of this post is last night on the Hub the Mayor stated he has not been in talks with Labour on Light Rail before the announcement so he would have to wait and see the plan and if it fits what is needed .The this morning on Paul Henry the Transport spokesperson for Labour says that the Mayor has agreed to Labours plan, so Auckland your rates bill will keep increasing and the promise of transparency from your Mayor is just a small lie

I stand amazed, the Washington Post, of all the MSM, has absolutely got stuck into the Democrats for attacking FBI director Comey:

IF DEMOCRATS believe the FBI director is corrupt and political, they should have the gumption to say so. Instead, many have insulted James B. So Democrat leaders decided to attack the fact-finder…

“It appears damage is being done to the rule of law,” Ms Pelosi said. She’s right, but the FBI director isn’t doing the damage. The wreckers are those who cast baseless aspersions on U.S. law enforcement in the service of their partisan goals.

  I spent many a lunch hour there in the late 60s tracing sun spots and was saddened to hear that in the years after I left it had fallen into disrepair. Well worth saving. If I recall rightly, at the time it was the largest telescope in NZ in private hands.
  
  While it was not possible to point the telescope at the Basin Reserve (too low down) it could be trained on the swimming area of Wellington East girls school, though that was frowned upon for some reason.

Greetings from Chicago. Get your money on the Cubs to win tonight, so the World Series moves back to Cleveland to be decided there. The diehard Cubs fans are still upbeat, but coming from 1-3 down would be a huge feat. Stubhub.com has 1755 tickets to Wrigley Field tonight, but the cheapest were for standing room at $800US each, so we’ll pass.

Despite the baseball, SWMBO and I were part of a crowd of almost 22,000 at the Chicago Bulls last night. And big bruv will be pleased to know that a huge cheer went up when the All Black haka was played on the Jumbotron at the United Centre, then the camera flashed to a number of All Blacks in the crowd. Then there’s NFL at Soldier Field tomorrow night, and three Blackhawks NHL games; this place is a sporting Mecca.

Oh, and the tide is definitely turning in the Presidential campaign, with Trump getting momentum with just a week to go. His building in downtown Chicago is the ultimate election billboard, with TRUMP in letters two stories high. It’s also far from the ugliest building inthe city.

  Glad you’re having fun in Chi-town, KS. Actually the Trump Tower is a pretty good-looking skyscraper that fits in well with the rest of the Loop buildings.
  
  Last time I was there a young, Hispanic waiter found out that I was a New Zealander and excitedly talked about the All Blacks-Eagles game he’d just seen a week earlier, and about meeting some of the AB’s. I was surprised to hear that Rugby’s actually making a bit of an impact in the Hispanic groups in Chicago.
  
  As far as the Cubs go….. Sigh. I think they’ll win today – they better not lose all three frigging games in Wrigley Field. They may even win game 6 back in Cleveland – but I can’t seem them pulling off three-in-a-row against a team pitching as well as the Indians are.

    Just as a matter of interest, Kimbo, with regard to Francona’s management of the Indians pitching, I read yesterday that the combination of Kluber-Miller-Allen have pitched 67 out of 107 post-season innings.
    
    That’s quite incredible. I can’t recall any team that has so heavily relied on one starter, one reliever and one closer as much as that – at least not in the modern era. He’s really riding his luck on them not getting tired or breaking down, and so far he’s had that.

      Which means on the law of averages…but then that is the problem/challenge/charm with post-season: Averages don’t apply as with the 162 game season – and also as the All Blacks found in knock-out play at a number of World Cups . Hence a team like the 1966 LA Dodgers with hall of fame pitchers like Koufax and Drysdale was still swept by the Orioles in the World Series.
      
      A week ago on the eve of game 6 Kershaw was invincible. If everything went according to form/reputation there is no point in playing or being a fan, is there? You are only as good as your next game. Come, on, tom. You know you want give your heart to the Cubs winning this World Series, and now’s the time to do it. You’re among friends here (snicker!).

      I found the stuff in Richie McCaw’s book after the 2011 RWC win really good on understanding pressure, and the input of experts like Ceri Evans and Gilbert Enoka. Stuff that some sportspeople came across in the old days through common-sense/experience like pressure coming through expectation, scrutiny and outcome, and unless you are in your “comfort-zone” of trained automatic responses, or have specific coping mechanisms, then fight, flight or freeze will kick-in. Hence, while a sporting contest is always physical, a winning strategy is designed to take your opponent to a place where they are under strain physically…then the psychological factors kick in.
      
      The All Blacks have clearly built on that since 2011. Now’s the time where we will find out if the Cubs have used their time wisely since that loss to the Mets last year.

        The fact that they’ve not been swept means they have learned – but the Indians scouts and coaches have clearly told their pitchers that the young Cub batters are still overly aggressive. They swing at too many breaking balls and they don’t get the pitch counts up enough.
        
        I reckon it’s about time we had a repeat of Zobrist’s bunt. Do something – anything – to get men on base with no outs. So far the Indians have done real well in two base, or even loaded base situations and 3-2 counts, which is not how it should be going.

  A contact in Washingon has a retired FBI agent next door. When Comey gave Clinton her hospital pass it’s true there was an internal revolt at the agency. It was described as a shit storm of great proportions. Comey is now desperate to regain his loss of face and make amends so its going to be open season on the crook. He knows his future is stuffed if she gets in as Obama now hates his guts.
  
  The media is also flip flopping and some previously very pro Clinton newspapers are starting to print what Fox News has been saying.

    Combine that with the fact that the Cubs hitting still is not great against pitching where it should be – like tonight – plus that 50:50 win requirment for the Indians vs 100% success requirement for the Cubs – means the odds are still very much with the Indians.
