Morning all!

I declare today to be David Garrett Day on KB.

Yesterday, a piece of shit got seven years for not believing the state would ever put its foot down. Ah ha ha ha ha ha.

Wish I could have seen the offender’s little face when Toogood handed down the stretch.

That’s what Three Strikes is all about I reckon. The dropjaw.

As with little children and stupid people, sometimes you have to follow through on the threats, which we haven’t done in New Zealand for an awfully long time. Thanks to Garrett, now we are.

Naturally, National Radio reported the story complete with a nasty, clearly partisan swipe at Sir David by reminding us all what an awful man he is what with the baby’s ID and the punch-up. Yawn.

Naturally – and in a way this is the best bit – they interviewed some big-noter from the legal fraternity, and Ardern, and a QC who all insisted the punishment was basically pure evil.

Guys. Listen and learn. What just happened in the UK and the USA?

The punters got f***ed off with the elite being way out of touch. You surely couldn’t find a worse disconnect. 90%+ of kiwis will be overjoyed by the 3S decision.

I was a member of National when Don Brash was in charge after doubling the polling from around 20% to 40%. I resigned after Key changed on all of Brash’s good policies.

    One dis-similarity is that Key comes from “Wall Street”, while Trump’s claims to hate the troughers in big finance might have some substance, given his love-hate relationship with financiers, and potential for scores to be settled against some of them.
    
    The media painted Don Brash as a cats-paw to the one-percenters but ironically he would have done something about house prices, which might be the biggest reality check about where a politician’s real allegiances lie. Yes, yes, it might seem to be about “protecting” the middle class incumbent home owners capital gains already enjoyed, but where might the interests of “big finance” lie in all this?

  I very much doubt that Trump could be as “pragmatic” as John Key, and get re-elected.
  
  Firstly, Key did not run on anything like as outrageous a program as Trump, and certainly did not take on the whole media and the politically correct establishment head-on. Don Brash’s positions were closer to Trump’s, but Brash was a gentleman. Perhaps it takes an arrogant and self-assertive politician to pull it off – but I don’t think Kiwis take to this like Americans do.
  
  Americans won’t accept being “sold out” to the extent Kiwis have accepted. I can see very little of the same resentment in NZ, for the establishment and its “politically correct positions on everything” from immigration to minority-group preferences to “saving the planet”. Anyone in NZ taking anything like Trump’s positions, is way out in the political wilderness.
  
  Breaking the MSM’s stranglehold on the narrative might be the biggie. We don’t have anything like Breitbart here, and that is just one prominent example of alternative media. The USA has a whole sector of influential alternatives, in fact a whole new movement:

  John Key like most of his predecessors ( especially Sir Keith Holyoke ) has an acute and perceptive understanding of Centre Right and consensus politics .
  
  He Clearly understood that if he followed the dry right politics of Don Brash it would amount to political suicide . It also helps to explain why an ideologically based party like ACT struggles for political relevancy outside its citidel Epsom .

    They were wiped out by Don Brash National in 2005.
    
    Brash very nearly became PM.
    
    One would expect the sitting government – Helen Clark’s – at that time, to lose its wafer-thin majority next time as a matter of course. I see it as completely unnecessary for National to have sold out on almost everything and have run NZ like Helen Clark’s 4th, 5th and 6th terms. They would have won in 2008 anyway even on the Brash platform, and by 2011 the country would have been doing even better than it was when Key got re-elected. We might have had a REAL economy of utilisation of resources and production of useful stuff, instead of debt-financed consumer spending on the back of house-price “wealth effect” Ponzi.

  That’s what you learn in The Real World/free market.
  
  The only place you can put ideology over pragmatism is in political science ivory towers in academia and heavily protected workplaces where achievement is not important.
  
  Even Lenin understood this with his New Economic Policy in 1917-22. Russia was too economically screwed for communism to “work” so he allowed some capitalism to build up the economy until it was solid enough for full-blown Communism. Once capitalism got Russia back on its legs he switched back to Communism saying “look how great Communism is”.

Talk about the dance of the desperate. The USA Democrats, still cant believe the beating they got from the Donald Trump party. Seems with crooked Hillary aboard,and to save face ,when they get another beating on electoral votes recounting in three states. They have sent in one of their associate puppets from the Green Party to call for a recount,at a cost of circa $NZ 5000.Wonder is some of that money from the “Clinton Foundation”,of which one our goody two shoes Government Dept gave around $7,000,000.

It was said months ago that New York Lawyers had been retained to do something should she lose – although this in no way was expected at the time.
Will the vote counters visit the local graveyards and check the voting validity of the voters who actually voted ?

      All sorts of stuff being reported on this. The Reddit guys reckon they have proved there is a bot working on delivering the funds to Stein’s recount account. Consistently giving US$160,000/hr. If true, it is not hard to imagine who has the central fund from which is coming ( no, I’m not suggesting the Clinton Foundation).
      In Stein’s application they are talking about hacking being behind the initial “false” counts –problem is Michigan has only a paper/scan counting system which is not linked to the internet in any way. Also they do an initial count and then follow it with their own certified recount ( results announced the other day). Similarly apparently Pennsylvania doesn’t have a way that would allow hacking.

I must confess to being extremely surprised – and impressed – by this. By way of explanation I remember Rob McCarthy, a regular reader of this blog, pointing out some time ago that dedicated and patriotic civil servants were countering on the ground much of the damage caused by spineless politicians and traitors like (((Alan Shatter))). It looks like he might be right and could explain why an asylum centre in my town has been gradually emptied over the last few years. Maybe there is hope. However I should add that the correct rejection figure would be 100%. Because anyone fetching up here and claiming asylum must have travelled through other countries to get here. Ipso facto that makes them asylum tourists

A group of Irish travellers/knackers/gypsies protested at the allocation of a public housing unit to a family of Syrian asylum tourists. President Erdogan has once again threatened to flood the EU with refugees if they do not accept his emerging dictatorship and abide by the deal to give Turkey aid and visa free access to the EU.

Why did Merkel (it was her doing) make this deal? They could and should inform refugees if they arrived in Greece they would be held there and only get tents and food so they would be better off staying where they were in Turkey.

But there is an opportunity for the UK, if the EU is that weak under threats. So when the EU says no access to the common market if the UK leaves the EU (the way the EU bullies other nations of Europe to become members or be excluded from the free trade zone) unless they allow free movement of EU labour into the UK – then the UK should say: then we withdraw from NATO. Why defend people who deny you free trade?

The East Europeans would soon realise the EU without the UK offered little for their defence and this would make Trump an even more unreliable ally vs Russia and so they were screwed. So they would ask for the EU to back down (while they would stay in the EU if the UK left NATO, they might also then leave to placate Russia and acknowledge that NATO’s reach stopped at the German border).

I keep hearing the bogus arguement from the Left MSM that since we’ve had another quake tax cuts targeted at the lower paid are irresponsible and should be abandoned.
I take a different view: Tax cuts next year for the lowest paid should come before pay rises in the state sector. If someone really has to make a sacifice post quake it shouldn’t be the lowest paid, it should be those in secure, well paid, govt jobs first. After all why did they join the public service? Just to get a nice comfy job, with regular pay rises and benefits? Surely not!?

  The initial fires were a result of drought and strong winds. There was a larger fire at Mount Carmel some years ago as a result of this.
  
  Some, such as one of homes near Jerusalem were more likely arson – and only after certain politicians said that starting fires was terrorism.

What is, in your opinion, an aircraft carrier? Or, let me put it this way, why does the United States maintain a force of 10-12 heavy aircraft carriers? If you believe Ronald Reagan, it is to “forward deploy” and bring the war to the Soviets (that was, then, the rationale for a 600 ship navy and US carriers in the northern Atlantic). Nothing could be further from the truth. The reality is that US, British, French aircraft carriers are a colonial rule enforcement tool. You park one or two aircraft carrier battle groups a few hundred miles from a disobedient country, and you bomb the shit out of it until it rolls over. That is, in reality, the only rationale for these immense structures. And the beauty of it is that you can threaten most of the planet and that you do not depend on allies agreeing to your mission. So, we can say that US and other western aircraft carriers are a long range power projection capability to be used against weak and poorly defended countries.

Why weak and poorly defended only?

Here is the ugly secret that everybody knows: aircraft carriers cannot be defended against a sophisticated enemy. Had the Cold War turned hot, the Soviets would have simultaneously attacked any US carrier in the north Atlantic with a combo of

Air launched cruise missiles
Submarine launched cruise missiles
Surface ship launched cruise missiles
Submarine launcher torpedoes

I cannot prove the following, but I can just testify that I had plenty of friends in the US military, including some who served on US aircraft carriers, and they all understood that US carriers would never survive a Soviet saturation attack and that in case of a real war they would have been kept away from the Soviet shores. I will only add here that the Chinese apparently have developed specialized ballistic missiles designed to destroy carrier battle groups. That was then, in the early 1990s. Nowadays even countries like Iran are beginning to develop capabilities to engage and successfully destroy US carriers.

If US Can’t or Won’t Fight Terrorists, They Should ‘Stop Getting in the Way’

The Russian Defense Ministry commented on the US State Department’s calls not to help tankers shipping fuel to the Russian Aerospace Forces in Syria.

If Washington cannot or does not want to fight terrorists, it should not get in the way, the ministry’s spokesman Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov said Thursday.

US State Department’s spokesman Mark Toner urged other countries not to provide support for Russian tankers shipping fuel to the Russian aviation group in Syria.

“Such statements, unfortunately, only confirm our earlier estimates that fighting terrorism in Syria has never been on the outgoing administration’s agenda,” Konashenkov said.

Washington had impeded negotiations, did not separate terrorists and opposition and now openly called on other countries to hamper Moscow’s anti-terrorism fight in Syria “to somehow downplay the failures of US policies in the country since 2014”, the spokesman said.

Konashenkov said that the US-led coalition can only dream of a success comparable to the one Russia has achieved for a year: over 2,000 settlements have joined ceasefire, 86 armed groups have stopped fighting and hundreds of thousands of Syrians have returned to peaceful life to rebuild the country.

“So if you cannot or do not want to fight Daesh and al-Nusra Front — do not get in the way, at least. Our air group is Syria is sufficiently equipped to fight international terrorism in this region,” he said…

  It’s interesting watching RT, Russia Today. They give a different perspective to CNN and clearly demonstrate someone is not telling the truth about getting rid of the terrorists.
  
  Recently a shipment of arms that the US had sold to their Saudi friends was captured from ISIS. The boxes of handheld missiles had serial numbers that were traced back to the US. Trump was correct.

  I don’t know the answer but one thing I do know is that genuinely murderously ruthless thugs always get attached to that label lifelong. Amongst the crop include Amin, Mugabe, Taylor (from Rwanda), Burmese generals, the list is long. But he’s not been on it. The US pretended he was on it during the 60’s-mid-80’s period but since then not really. And people know. If it’s true as it is in all the aforementioned, they know. But with Castro, in my reading, public sentiment is he’s ok, he’s not in that club.
