‘Councillor’s family racially snubbed’

All credit to the election of Efeso Collins to the council position and always good to get family support so to be able to share in Efesos proud moment.

I am not defending the position taken by the usher at the ceremony who was controlling the entrance of the guests into a specific areas reserved for guests of the councillors; were there cards / passes for those attending to gain admission to the area? (like most events with special areas such as concerts, pit passes, enclosures at the races etc.)

It is easy to play the racism card. I believe that middle New Zealand is over brown people using their skin colour to gain an advantage in almost any situation and then shout racism when things do not go their way.

It is not unreasonable to be cautious when the proper credentials / pass for legitimate entry to any occasion cannot be produced irrespective of colour, height, BMI, anything

    South Auckland is the friendliest part of Auckland BECAUSE it is “multicultural “.
    Fortunately the brown inhabitants tend to be Pacifica, Maori, Chinese and Indian, not too many Muslims.

  Listening to the interview it I gathered that the family were told that the seats were for Councillor associates, they said who they were, they were then seated. This Councillor has wasted no time in making his presence felt by playing the race card – preparing the ground for all manner of false outrage in the future.

Good on Christchurch for banning freedom camping from their beaches. Why should the ratepayers pay to clean up these dirty fuckers detritus. Would they do it in their own home town? I doubt it. The problem with passing all these bylaws is they need to have the will to enforce them.

    Napier council seems to have this well sorted.
    They have installed a couple of toilets with outside showers adjacent to large beach side carparks close to town with rubbish collection early every morning.
    Between the two carparks there would be 50+ vehicles a night.
    Yep there would have been a significant cost to this but I would think it gets well paid off by the 100+ people each and every night staying there buying stuff and doing things in Napier.
    Council does need to put up a NO SWIMMING notice tho, after yet another drowning on that beach.

If these plonkers actually want to be part of the next Government, they have to start behaving in a way that endears them to National supporters and the party itself, because that’s their only path to sharing power.
All that NZ First have going for them is that they are a cult headed by a charismatic, populist, but bitter and twisted leader. That’s not enough, particularly as he’s on borrowed time.
If they continue to act like a bunch of demented baboons, the confused voters who seem determined to give the Nats a ‘wake-up call’ will hurry back to Uncle John next November and Winston and his hangers-on will deservedly spend yet another 3 years in the wilderness.
This time, it will be terminal.

      I have no connection with Ron Mark or the NZ First political party, and I don’t recall the details of his accusations in Parliament beyond that they entailed an extremely serious allegation against a person.
      
      However, I am interested whether the Parliamentary privilege that covered the Mark attack continues in this matter.
      
      As a long-time follower of Kiwiblog, I am genuinely concerned about any risk to the blog’s publisher and to any posters who might naively repeat the accusations thinking Parliamentary privilege covers them, when it may not.

  Some churches strongly favoured eugenics, too.
  Some US states had eugenics policies until the 1970s.

      Nature, if allowed to take its course, will result in a constant upwards evolution of a species.
      
      What the welfare state, heavy taxation and 3rd world aid does is reverse nature and actually results in disgenics as successful peoples can no longer afford to have large families as they are having to pay for all the others.
      
      This trends needs to be stopped and reversed. A Civilisation cannot be sustained if it is constantly being weakened and those that created it and have the ability to maintain it become reduced in number. Just look at Detroit – once the “Paris of America”, now just a 3rd world cesspit in the space of 2 generations once all the Americans fled.
      
      As hysteric as MM will get about this comment – we need to stop paying the poor to breed, importing the 3rd world and sending our wealth overseas as “aid”.
      
      If we don’t, Civilisation will continue to collapse. The choice is that stark.

    Mikenmild, Sweden had the same until the 1970’s as well. It was initially popularized as a socialist idea and drew inspiration from a form of social darwinism, but was in fact supported across the spectrum by people including GB Shaw, Francis Dalton, Keynes, and Churchill.
    
    And the Democrats in the US do advocate a form of slavery only it isn’t recognized as such by its proponents. Trapping people into a victimhood mode within a culture that rejects social mobility in exchange for limited welfare traded for votes; is a modern form of slavery.

    One of GB Shaw’s long-term obsessions was mass murder by means of poison gas. In a 1910 lecture before the Eugenics Education Society, he said:

A great many people would have to be put out of existence simply because it wastes other people’s time to look after them. ”

The facts are that Eugenics was a popular concept with both left and Right especially in the 1930’s which it’s most extreme manifestation with the Nazis and they certainly went way beyond even what Shaw dreamt of .Well known exponents included Alexander Graham Bell , Churchill and Francis Crick

  Some influential people supported eugenics in early times. I’m thinking specifically of Sir Francis Galton, famous for the advances he made in statistics, polling, the study of intelligence, and meteorology (he made the first weather maps).
  
  We need to distinguish between morality and science in study of effects of heredity and their use.
  
  In a nation of farming, where there have been great advances thanks to selective breeding, it’s obvious that heredity does influence intelligence and other human aspects.
  
  Whether we should apply anything even remotely similar to this to humans is another matter altogether and one which potentially conflicts with, among other things, the Golden Rule that underlies most (if not all) religions: do unto others as you would have done unto yourself.
  
  I wouldn’t want to have to been “weeded out”.

        Mike, the original post did not mention the “musket” wars, but wars. And in the just pre-european maori society, warfare was endemic; presumably as a competition over resources and for slaves/food.
        
        Muskets certainly did not help and did, as you say, give certain fast adopters a significant advantage in battles that they used. But Europeans did not encourage the wars as such (besides supplying muskets), that propensity was in the culture itself. Before the musket period, tribes and subtribes could be and were in fact wiped out. Not “genocide” because it was inter-tribal within one group; on a small scale the Chatham Island massacres would be pretty close to genocide as the Moriori had significantly diverged culturally from the mainland Maori.
        
        The wars did not just “cease”, they were suppressed. One of the driving forces behind the acceptance of the treaty of Waitangi was to enable (that is give a legal basis for) the suppression of large scale inter-tribal raiding.

        No one is denying that tribal societies can be brutal. But endemic cycles of seasonal raiding and warfare only erupted into mass killings once firearms were added. This is no political point, the simple fact is that without European contact there could have been no musket wars.
        As for the idea that the Europeans ended the musket wars, or warfare in general: that’s frankly absurd.
        Following the Treaty of Waitaingi, the new colony lacked the resources to impose rule without the consent of Maori. That was one reason for the governor refusing to retaliate after the Wairau Affray. The British did not fare too well in the Northern War either, so it was into the 1860s before Maori could be bested militarily.

  “Ethnic cleansing”: the state directly relocates you, kills you, removes your kids, etc.
  “Ethnic displacement”: the state allows into the country a large number of people of a certain culture (who will select a town in which to congregate (based on the ‘birds of a feather’ principle)).     Well that would be true if you excluded the intrusion of the state.
    
    If it was just people moving in and contributing to society then you’d have displacement.
    
    But the state does not work like that. It takes away resources from the existing population and gives those to the invading population. That reduces the number of children the existing people have.
    
    Then the state dumb down schools and reduce educational resources because the incoming population need special language training, have lower IQ, etc etc.
    
    The state also performs social engineering by throwing people out of state housing to make them available for immigrants.
    
    If it was all free market, many of the immigrants to Europe would just find the climate and the culture does not suit them and they would move back.

Saw this the other day – BNZ economist Tony Alexander says don’t blame baby boomers for the ‘housing crisis’, and that they did not vote for low interest rates or high prices.

No, but decade after decade they did vote for a massive welfare state, which essentially removed personal responsibility and lowered the quality of stock to the point where the offspring of the non-productive – and indeed plenty of the children and grandchildren of those same baby boomers – are so useless they can’t even manage a weekly budget let alone buy their own houses.

Strangely, though, I seem to see the children of the same demographic immigrants from very poor countries quietly going about buying not only their first, but their second and third homes.

Certainly, baby boomers (the productive ones at least) worked very hard and paid vast amounts of tax to build assets from power generators to local council infrastructure to their own properties. We owe them a great deal, but surely they must accept that they were enablers of the situation their children and grandchildren find themselves in.

      We have a system where people least capable of raising children properly are paid to have more, and those most capable are penalized financially causing them to choose to have fewer children.
      
      This only takes a couple of generations to have an effect. So far we have compensated by bringing in high achieving immigrants but we can’t keep doing that indefinitely.

        But in any culture there will be people unsuited to raise children and unable to properly provide for them. Normally those people will have fewer kids.   Low interest rates need not be the cause of inflated house prices anyway. The proof is that it is all about how easily urban land supply can be expanded. Young Kiwis used to be able to get 3% interest mortgage loans (subsidized) and it did nothing to the price of houses or urban land. The difference is that back then we were doing whole new subdivisions like Mangere. It is impossible under the current anti-sprawl planning mania, to do “competitive land supply” housing development. Plenty of US cities with median multiples stable at around 3 regardless of how low interest rates went 2000 – 2007; and now; prove the point.
  
  There isn’t really a significant demographic “to blame” for “voting for” the urban planning fashion. In fact the young people hurt the most, are probably the biggest voting suckers for this Watermelon-driven racket.
  
  By the way it is nothing to do with NIMBYism and anti-density restrictions. Plenty of median-multiple 3 cities with an average section size of 1/2 an acre, while NO dense city anywhere in the world has a median multiple below 6. Hong Kong, for example, is 40 times as dense as Atlanta, yet HK’s median multiple is 16 and Atlanta’s is 3. The point is that land, if it is not rationed and racketeered, really IS as cheap as dirt.

    The “young kiwis used to be able to get 3% interest…” needs to be challenged; a very small subset of people were able to access such loans. Finance was very restricted, I know as even in the early mid-70’s when i was considering purchasing a house, I couldn’t get finance at all unless my parents were to become the nominal owners.
    
    I’d also note that the low interest part only covered (typically) a part of the cost/price; most people typically had a second mortgage as well, and that at a much higher rate, around 12-13% as I can best recall at the time though I’m sure it varied.
    
    The point is, right now, the asset bubble is, IMHO, powered by low interest rates. That’s because there’s almost no investments that return anything like a reasonable rate of return without excessive risk so all the “smart” money piles in the low risk high return housing market. It isn’t purely low rates, but the whole environment of which low rates are a very prominent part.
    
    The policy is driven by a desire to pump up demand to prevent recession, but asset bubbles are an almost certain side effect of such manipulation. Might not be hugely damaging in a short term intervention, but when we get 8 plus years of it it becomes the new “normal” and bubbles proliferate. As the saying goes, opportunity costs; there’s ALWAYS opportunity costs.

There is no example anywhere in the world where “housing affordability” has been sustained in the face of stickiness in the land supply for housing.
      
      In fact there are developing nations with very little mortgage credit available at all to anyone, but the formal housing market still prices out half the population into illegal slums. Those who do buy, frequently pay the entire purchase price from savings by themselves and their parents. This does not stop the de facto median multiple from being over 10.
      
      A certain level of stickiness in supply of land for housing, guarantees that the market will end up pricing out some proportion of the population from ownership, and the “price” being a high one. The availability of credit merely determines to what extent successful buyers do so with debt or with savings. Or in a mature “developed” nation with severe land supply rationing, like the UK, you get crowding, landlords renting out 1/4 shares in single rooms to 4 people, crawl spaces for rent, grown-up children staying at home with parents, etc. The authorities have draconian and swift measures in place to prevent third-world style illegal slum housing “development” happening en mass like it does in the third world. The social pressures are intense. The term “generation rent” was in use over there long before the Eaqub book in NZ.

Just saw some knob head on PH talking about how Trump as President will be bad for NZ business. He even mentioned Brexit as being bad for NZ business. What a wanker.
When Trump gets to be President, he will not implement half the things he is saying he will do. Because its got to go through Congress, most of these changes he wants are just typical political talk.

    Of course it is, exactly the same as Clinton. They politicians FFS, and both are con-men/women with no empathy.
    
    But it isn’t that Trump doesn’t mean it as an aspiration, I do think that if he is elected an awful lot of what he claims he wants to do will prove to be a lot harder to actually achieve than he claims. A lot would need to go through Congress and there’s only a minority there that are definite Trump supporters.
    
    A lot of voters may not see that, but exactly the same is true on the other side. Do you really think Clinton could get away with an executive order overturning the second amendment ?

      It is hard to imagine how an executive order could overturn explicit provisions in the US Constitution.
      The debate about the Second Amendment is the extent to which state or federal laws can regulate what is presumed to be a fairly open-ended right to possess firearms.

        It is not an “open ended right”. 2nd amendment is very clearly in the context of militia. Debated endlessly. And no doubt will continue to be. But there’s been plenty of legislation in various states infringing the right to possess , carry , conceal firearms. So the right isn’t so open ended.

        Some interpretations consider it to be pretty much an untrammeled right. For most of US history, firearms possession was tightly constrained, but a Supreme Court decision in the 1930s opened things up a bit even though (I think) the court set out what it considered to be the right in the context of what arms a militia might need. So no one really argues against regulating the possession of RPGs, artillery or nuclear weapons.

        It is open ended. The word “militia” does not mean an organized military voice. It means private citizens who take up arms in defence of the state if required. Effectively, the second amendment says it is vital to have a large number of private citizens who own guns and know how to use them. All able bodied adults are capable of being members of a militia.

  The reason stock markets will decline is the BAU of continuous war that feeds the war machine will have a couple of bad quarters until Trump is neutralised.
  The New American Century (PNAC) has been all about war …on some vaguely defined terrorists, incl Al Qaeda set up by the US in the 1980s; incl ISIS funded by Qatar and S/Arabia; there are even ‘good terrorists’ if CIA approved and fighting against the President of Syria.
  
  More people die from Malaria in a day than died in terrorist attacks in France in the whole of last year or the last two years combined but let’s NOT put it in perspective.
  
  Trump has actually ‘built things’ with varying degrees of success- hotels, resorts, residential buildings casinos, golf courses.
  
  This is opposite to Benghazi Hillary backers – Wall Street. They only move money round and do not add value. They privatise profits and socialise losses and want a puppet (Obummer Mk II) that will continue this regime.
  
  USA is pretty good at protectionism and setting up tariffs and subsidising business already. eg. Buy out Nokia and bury it. They largely see WTO as one way – let us sell to you but we will make it difficult for you to sell into USA.
  Mr Paul Henry Hopes is misguided but he is only a mouthpiece for the ranting media.
  
  Henry really went into muppet mode in the next interview when he agreed with some lady who was a cyclist/non cyclist that 12,000 people/day will use the intended Auckland harbour cycle bridge clip-on. The boy better check his meds. I turned off after 2 minutes of that. WOFT.

There is only one thing that matters today.

Game 7 of the World Series in baseball.

I don’t know what’s happened to that utter bastard, Kimbo, who vanished yesterday “like a fart in the wind” as the Cubs won game 6 to recover from a 3-1 series deficit and tie up the series, 3-3.

You want to know how bad this is? Read this from someone who follows the game but niether of these two teams…

If there’s one thing for certain, it’s that it had to come down to a Game 7. This World Series always promised to be the cruelest of World Series, and we’ve known that since the postseason started.

The Indians, so scrappy, so beleaguered, so written off, and they’re riding their elite arms harder than any team has ridden their elite arms since Old Hoss Radbourn was around. The Cubs, so synonymous with heartbreak, so destined to lose, with curses that came from goats and beheadphoned fans alike. Both of these teams would be great World Series stories, the kind of stories that would make your grandkid look up, while his or her brain secretly processes a thought like, “My god, they actually had to watch baseball like that, in basic HD, like a savage.” They would ask what it was really like.

Well, I’ll tell you, kid. It was like this. Both of these teams were forsaken, empty shells without any hope for joy or resolution. Nothing good ever happened to them. But one of them had to win the last game, the game of destiny. One of them got to shed their skin and begin life anew, and the other one started over from the same stupid place they’d started every season, only this time it felt much worse.

Baseball’s a sick twist, alright. Here’s a Game 7 of a World Series between the Cubs and Indians as proof. Either one of these teams could have lost in the first round, and it would have been business as usual. There’s something about it that’s extra, extra, extra cruel. And beautiful.

Mostly cruel, though. Sorry about that.

Well, I’m here to say that I think the Cubs will do it; that they’ll finally hit the unhittable Kluber-Miller combination.

But either way, it’s going to be a hell of a game.

    No idea, but it should be. I paid $US24.99 a few weeks ago to watch all the post-season games (well, not the American League) streaming on MLB.TV – so SKY can shove it! I still have not forgiven them for only showing the AL playoffs in 2003. Assholes! Do they think people only care about the Yankees?

    I don’t know what on earth has got into me, but I’m feeling pretty good about this game – but irrespective of whether the Cubs win or lose! Is that weird or what?
    
    Perhaps it’s because the Cubs tied it up at 3-3, denying the Indians two bites at the cherry? I would have been pissed off had the Cubs gone down in a screaming heap, 4-1 – and in their own backyard to boot.
    
    Or perhaps because it’s the Indians – especially after reading the article I linked to? I can easily imagine both sets of fans crying, irrespective of whether their team won or lost. Tears of sorrow and tears of relief.
    
    Or perhaps it’s just because I think it’s going to be a great game, whatever happens (well not quite – an early blowout for either side would be bad).
    
    Still, I’d rather be a Cubs fan than an Indians fan right now. We have no history of last-gasp WS losses – they do, and that’s got to be preying on the minds of their fans. Not their players though; like the Cubs players I don’t think they give a damn about history.
    
    The reason it’s going to be so good is that the while Kluber-Miller have been almost unhittable by any team, the Cubs batting has woken up again at exactly the right time. It’s going to be real mano-a-mano stuff.
    
    My head says an Indians win though, because their bullpen has been almost airtight in the post-season, forcing teams to score first and get a lead over the starting pitcher. That’s what the Cubs have done in the last two games, forcing the Indians to play catchup ball. But that strategy is problematic in this game because of frigging Kluber. Getting even one run off him is tough.
    
    If the Cubs lose, I think they’ll especially look back at game 3 as the one they should have won. That was Tomlin as well and I thought they’d clobber him. It happened yesterday in game 6 – but not in game 3. That could be the difference.
    
    And the flipside is that the Cubs bullpen has not been as strong: against the Indians batters in particular they’ve looked like they’re barely holding it together. A one run Indian lead looks solid in the middle and late innings – but not a one run Cubs lead. The good news for the Cubs today is that because it’s the last game they can throw the kitchen sink at the Indians: If Kendricks has to be pulled they have two great starting pitchers who can step in for at least one or two innings each. No worries about rest days now.

The Tigers were up against the seemingly unbeatable Cardinals pitcher, Bob Gibson, the destroyer of Red Sox World Series dreams in 1967, who had also racked up a record-breaking number of strike outs of Detroit batters in the first game of the 1968 series.

        Yep – like I said. Right now I feel more comfortable as a Cubs fan than an Indians fan.
        
        I was also thinking of the ’86 Mets yesterday as I watched the Indians outfielders completely screw up, turning what should have been a simple, innings-ending fly-catch, into two Cubs runs. Awful – and of course I thought of Buckner in Game 6, and how that just seemed to destroy the Red Sox for Game 7.
        
        Could that history repeat itself?
        
        But then I don’t recall that Red Sox team having a 7th game combo like Kluber-Miller.

  On October 29, for the first time in about two years, I posted on Kiwiblog, joining in the baseball thread with the following observation.
  
  “Something I’m watching for in this series is for Aroldis Chapman to blow a save. It’s gotta come. Cleveland definitely got the better deal with Andrew Miller when the Yankees decided to blow up their team. Overall, though, Chicago coming back from Cleveland with the series tied is mission accomplished for them and they’re deserved favourites.”
  
  If that doesn’t make me the most prescient commenter on baseball on this site then I’d like to see what’s beaten me.
  
  Strangely, though, for this innocuous piece I received two downticks, which sort of confirms my feeling that this site has it’s fair share of weirdos. It’ll probably be another two years before I return.

    I saw your comment – and sadly I totally agreed. What happened to Chapman in the 8th inning tonight did not surprise. But to be fair, as concerned as I have been about him, the reason this happened tonight was that he’d been worked through 42 and 20 pitches on the previous two nights. And those efforts were the reason the Cubs were even here, especially that Game 5.

      I’ve had the MLB.tv package for about five years now. Costs about $140 of ours annually and its automatically renewed each year in time for spring training. It’s brilliant. I follow the Orioles and watch 150-160 of their games in full each year and check out the AL East, and anything else that looks interesting, on the condensed option.
      So I’ve seen a fair bit of Chapman in his time with the Yankees and Miller with Boston, Baltimore and New York.
      If Chapman is still pitching at this level two years from now I’ll be surprised; four years and I’ll be amazed.
      Miller, though, will be doing his thing until he’s 40+. He was the final piece in the puzzle that got Baltimore to the post-season two years ago, where they swept Detroit in the ALDS then ran into a rampant KC. Closers are a bit overrated, I reckon, but a guy who can take a SP’s one-run lead from the sixth to the eighth or ninth inning is pure gold. There are very few of those.
      My final take on yesterday’s game is that every pitcher, bar the guy who started the last inning for Chicago, looked beat-up.

      Absolutely agree with your sentiments about how badly Native Americans have been treated. With regard to Dakota Access it seems there is fault on both sides.
      Some of the ownership of the land is in dispute but it does go through private land not any Reservation land. For its part, the tribe was invited on many occasions to participate in the approval process but they did nothing..

  Besides suggesting the Prime Minister of New Zealand is corrupt, Penny Bright is unable to state how many shares John Key actually holds in the Bank of America.
  
  She also does not seem to consider how there is no conflict of interest with any member of the NZ Parliament, owning by admission on the same Register-of-pecuniary-and-other-specified-interests-summary-2016.pdf, any more than one house, to make any law or policy in relation to housing in this country.
  Perhaps it is no different than standing for election as Mayor, in stewardship of people rates, and being an Auckland ratepayer but avoiding her community duty by not paying any for as long as she has.
  
  Considerably less people were fooled this time, although a very disturbing number of fools, who voted for her, seem to still exist out there.
  
  Finding out the highest personal share-holding in the Bank of America and dividing that by the value of the Bank would give some vague idea of any voting rights any individual might have in matters where shareholders are involved, but then you would also have to know if any such voting sway relates to any question of bank operational investment like the Dakota Access pipeline.

1. Ive just heard that the new procedure for handling IHC children who have gone a bit haywire in the classroom is to:
a) Evacuate ALL the other children from the classroom, and
b) Leave the child alone until they calm down…

So (when actually the IHC child should be in a facility that can give them an education – normal schools cant) the right to an education of ALL the other children comes second – not equal.

The dishonest, trivial and evasive tone of this disgraceful 22 minutes was established in the RNZ website’s promo note: “Reporting from Bethlehem in the West Bank of the Palestinian territories, is freelance journalist Fadwa Hodali.” Not a mention there, nor in the entire interview, that the West Bank has been illegally occupied for the last 49 years by a brutal military force. There is not a hint that the settlements they mention several times are, likewise, completely illegal and condemned under international law. Not even the slightest mention of the bands of heavily armed settlers that routinely rampage through Palestinian villages, terrorizing, beating and killing children and old people, chopping down and bulldozing Palestinian olive trees, setting fire to Palestinian crops, and inflicting pain, degradation and humiliation on Palestinians every day.

Fadwa Hodali does say something about the grueling, illegal Israeli checkpoints that make Palestinian life so unbearable, but Crump seems uninterested. Instead he prefers to chunter on in his lighthearted manner about the quality of telephone reception. Perhaps the most insulting, insensitive part of this fiasco comes when he, in apparent seriousness, asks if Palestinian children approach IDF compounds or illegal settlements for Halloween…..

BRYAN CRUMP: The Nights production team had a MAJOR breakthrough last week. We managed to find a new Palestinian correspondent to replace Nida’ Tuma, who was our woman on the West Bank before she joined the BBC. One of the problems in FINDING someone to replace Nida’ was finding someone with a decent phone line. But WE KNEW when we heard Fadwa answer her phone, Fadwa Hodali, that we were ON to something! Because that phone line was, relatively speaking, pretty good. I wouldn’t say clear as a bell, but still good. I spoke with her a few minutes ago, from her home in Bethlehem. That’s right!—Bethlehem, the birth place of Jesus, which for me and maybe you too conjures up images of rocky fields of pasture, some sheep or goats, shepherd, cobblestones, a few stone buildings, an inn, some stables. I remarked to Fadwa that twenty-first century Bethlehem is probably NOTHING LIKE that.
FADWA HODALI: Definitely not, no, you’re right, you’re right Bryan, definitely not. Bethlehem is a modern city. You can see high-rise buildings, nightlife, restaurants, like any other city that you try to enjoy what it offers. Unfortunately the only thing that we’re REALLY missing here, not only in Bethlehem but the whole West Bank, is the political stability, the political stability that everybody feels on a daily basis. Bethlehem is only a few miles away from Jerusalem, and this is something that we cannot enjoy, going to Jerusalem, because of the checkpoints, because of the wall that was built years ago. So this restricts the movement of Palestinians and they’re limited in a certain square mile that they have to live, enjoy life and it’s very difficult, you know. Five minutes, ten minutes away to be in Jerusalem, and not enjoying the beautiful scenery there. Half an hour from the beach—some kids are not even able to go to the beach, they don’t know what the beach is, because they need permission from the Israelis to go there. So it’s not easy, it’s not easy living here. Palestinians try to make the most of it, but it’s still very difficult.
BRYAN CRUMP: How far is, how FAR is Jerusalem from you?
FADWA HODALI: It’s, what?, five minutes away.
BRYAN CRUMP: REALLY?
FADWA HODALI: Five minutes. Yes, yes.
BRYAN CRUMP: By car? So you’re almost, you’re just next DOOR to Jerusalem. But how long does it take to get there if you want to travel there?
FADWA HODALI: Well, it depends on the situation at the checkpoint. Sometimes you can pass by, five minutes at the checkpoint, and sometimes it takes you half an hour, an hour to cross. And of course in the early morning is when the Palestinian workers cross through the checkpoint to work in the Israeli area. And of course there you would see thousands and thousands and thousands of people in lines waiting to be searched and cross. So you would see a worker coming into the checkpoint when he needs to start working at seven a.m., he has to be at the checkpoint around three o’clock in the morning, to be able to be at work at seven o’clock. So you can imagine the pressure in there, you can imagine the kind of lives they are leading. So it’s not easy, it’s not easy at all.
BRYAN CRUMP: So to some extent is Bethlehem a bit of a dormitory suburb for people who work in Jerusalem? Are there lots of people who actually depend on jobs in Jerusalem for their livelihoods?
FADWA HODALI: Well actually a lot of people from all over the West Bank depend on jobs on the Israeli side, whether it’s from the construction—mostly construction sites. But yes, for example in the Bethlehem area, we have a lot of people go there. They work for Christian institutions, they work as teachers in the Jerusalem area, so yes there is quite a number from Bethlehem that cross on a daily basis to go to their jobs in Jerusalem, definitely.
BRYAN CRUMP: What’s the main economic activity in Bethlehem? I’m guessing TOURISM is quite important in Bethlehem because of the, uh, Christian story.
FADWA HODALI: Well yeah definitely it is. Definitely, absolutely. Tourism is the number one in the Bethlehem area. It dropped the last two years also, because of the unrest that started last year. But definitely at some point we see the hotels fully booked, constantly you see the tourist buses in the street, the tourists going into the Old City. So you can feel the Bethlehem atmosphere. But unfortunately those tourists, a lot of them don’t sleep in the Bethlehem area. So they just bring them for the day, they spend the day and leave, and that is a big loss for the tourism industry here. For the reason of instability, whatever, they tell the tourists that no we can’t stay here, it’s unstable, and then they take them and they get to sleep somewhere else, on the Israeli side. So this is a major problem that the tourism industry is facing also.
BRYAN CRUMP: One problem we have at RNZ, Radio New Zealand, in finding a Palestinian correspondent, has been finding somebody who has a good phone line. Is telecommunications infrastructure a bit DIRE on the West Bank, or have we just been unlucky until we found YOU and your FABULOUS phone line I might add?
FADWA HODALI: No, not really, not really, actually you’re correct, you’re right in everything that you said. Actually you’re calling me on an Israeli line that I have.
BRYAN CRUMP: REALLY? How do you manage to have an Israeli line in BETHLEHEM?
FADWA HODALI: Yeah, well, remember that ALL our infrastructure is provided, specially designed, by the Israelis. We don’t have 3G access here by the way. The Israelis are still putting obstacles on the equipment that meets you coming into the Palestinian territories. They give the Palestinians …[garbled]… but we still are not functioning on a 3G internet. So you can IMAGINE how slow the internet is, especially on the phones. When you are at home it’s fine, but when you leave, everything is digital, you know, you have to check your emails, and use everything constantly, whether you are on the road or at work, so you need to have access to a 24-hour internet, and unfortunately we lack that in the Palestinian Territories. The few telecommunication companies that we have provide the internet but they’re not 3G. So we pay a tremendous amount of money for phone services while if you get a line, an Israeli line, which pretty much all Palestinians have a second line which they use mostly for internet, it’s cheap, fifty shekels or twenty dollars, less than twenty dollars, you can have unlimited calls, unlimited internet and all the time that you want. So the reason we have a very weak service here is that certain areas, part of the West Bank, the signal is very weak. Not enough towers being put out there. I would imagine that we can’t have a really decent phone conversation. I have for example a Palestinian song that I use locally and also internationally, and international calls they give you a really good deal on it. But I’m at home and the phone is roaming, because the signal is very weak from the local companies, so I have to roam into the Israeli company lines. So imagine the phone bills! [chuckles ruefully] So that’s why you are likely to be able to get hold of me, because you are talking to me on an Israeli phone line.
BRYAN CRUMP: And you’ve got a GOOD Israeli line because you’re in the right pla-a-a-ace, not–because it sounds to me from what you’ve SAID, it’s not necessarily that more expensive but you have to be in the right place.
FADWA HODALI: You have also to be in the right place, yes, because sometimes you are relying on the Israeli line crossed into the West Bank, there are certain areas that your Israeli line cannot work in there. Not enough coverage. I live in Bethlehem and surrounding us on pretty much four sides are all settlements. So you can imagine [rueful chuckle] the amount of coverage and towers that have been put out there for them to enjoy.
BRYAN CRUMP: [jocular tone] So this is one advantage of being near a Jewish settlement!

FADWA HODALI: Um, I don’t want to call it an advantage. Ha ha!
BRYAN CRUMP: Heh heh!
FADWA HODALI: [bitterly] Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!
BRYAN CRUMP: A SILVER LINING, that’s what we sa-a-a-a-a-ay! I dunno if you ever use that phra-a-a-ase.

….Extended silence…..

FADWA HODALI: Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! [Deep intake of breath] So, uh, this is the Palestinian life, you know, the daily Palestinian life is not easy, basically.
BRYAN CRUMP: Um, actually I wanted to go back, I don’t REALLY want to go back to a darker, um, aspect, to the conversation, but I, it’s kinda part of an ongoing ISSUE for YOU, and that is the recent spate of, of KNIFE ATTACKS on Israelis which you mentioned before, and, uh, when I’ve spoken to OTHERS, uh, about this in the Palestinian Territories, one of the reasons put up is frustration with the lack of progress vis-a-vis some kind of settlement with Israel. But I’m wondering whether another thing a lot of YOUNG Palestinians are feeling is frustration with their OWN LEADERSHIP, as in Mahmoud Abbas is OLD and frail and out of TOUCH with young Palestinians?
FADWA HODALI: Well, a lot of frustration, yes, you can sense a lot of frustration. A lot of frustration of the political deadlock—there’s no horizon for any political solution. For over twenty years, negotiations and negotiations and negotiations and talks have not resulted in anything. Palestinians see the result on the ground: more settlement building, more incursions, more arrests. Life is not normal for a young Palestinian, it’s not. So definitely there would be a blame on the leadership, whether it’s Mahmoud Abbas or it’s somebody else, actually, in regards to that. So, yeah, we’ve seen a lot of—-
BRYAN CRUMP: He, he’s, Mahmoud Abbas is, is now in his eighties isn’t he.
FADWA HODALI: Yes he’s in his eighties, definitely, and the last health issue that he had, this raised a lot of questions on his successor, what’s next, if something happens to President Abbas, who’s gonna take over, what’s going to happen in the West Bank, what’s going to happen in Gaza, where everything is. So it’s more of a soap opera here in the last two, three weeks. And of course with this issue then you have his rivals, other parties that they are not happy with his performance, have NEVER been happy with his performance, whether it’s from the Hamas side, whether it’s from the [unclear Arabic word]side now, so everything has just been pressured on him from all sides—not only internally but also internationally. We have Arab countries putting pressure on President Abbas to fix his internal issue, make reconciliation with Hamas, a lot of pressure being exerted from the expelled Mohammad Dahlan from Fatah wanting to come back, and he’s putting a lot of pressure on President Abbas through the Arab Quartet to come and make peace with him. So this is where the whole soap opera is happening right now, a lot of pressure. The situation is not easy because no one knows what’s next. Fatah has to choose the successor, who’s coming to take over after Abu Mazen. Israel is on the side watching, to evaluate how things are happening. We’re in a time now when the Arab world, as you know, things around us are unstable, wars from every single part. The instability that’s taking place in the Egypt side also is putting a lot of pressure on the Palestinians to make reconciliation also. So you can imagine, [wry chuckle] what’s happening in here.
BRYAN CRUMP: Who’s most likely to succeed him, in YOUR opinion?
FADWA HODALI: Well, ahhh, very different cases, of scenarios. But if you ask me personally, then I think that one person who everybody agrees on in the Palestinian side, whether it’s from President Abbas’s side or Hamas’s side or [Arabic name] side, or everyone that wants to get rid of President Abbas and wants someone to come over and take over, everybody agrees on one person, one person that is Marwan Barghouti. And we know Marwan Barghouti is someone that has been in the Israeli jails for years and years, over fifteen years now. And he is able, as some kind of a deal I would assume, takes place. And Fatah actually continues, there is a criteria that Fatah has to assign someone, and if Fatah agrees to assign someone which is Marwan Barghouti, then the full support will go for him, and everybody agrees on that because he is able to bring all the internal issues together. He is someone that they see in their eyes that gave most of his life for Palestine. Despite what the Israelis call him, say about him, and all that, the Palestinians see that he is the only one that is capable of making sure things don’t collapse in the West Bank. Now, if Fatah is going to do that, this is something that is being left for their convention that would be taking place at the end of November. At the end of November we are going to witness a new conference for Fatah, where they will choose a new leadership. From there they will call for a Palestinian National Council. The Palestinian National Council will hold elections and the Palestinian National Council is able to call in then for presidential and legislative elections for the whole West Bank and Gaza. But I believe that this is a very sensitive timing that the Palestinians are witnessing between now till November. We’ve seen a lot of unrest in the West Bank from the Dahlan party, he has his supporters, unrest from some refugees in the West Bank, nothing to worry about so much yet, but there is some indication that things are not going to the right way if they continue.
BRYAN CRUMP: Now as I was riding into work today, I noticed a lot of children were out in their costumes, their Halloween costumes, their tricking and treating costumes, they’re dressing up as ghouls, and knocking on doors in the hope of getting treats or performing tricks. And I was thinking, I wonder if that’s something that PALESTINIANS do on the West Bank? Is there any kind of Halloween celebration, where YOU live?

….For a moment there is a stunned silence….

FADWA HODALI: No, definitely there isn’t ANY. Definitely there isn’t any celebrations. Palestinians—it’s a tradition, I guess, Palestinians don’t have this tradition. There may be certain schools that they have the U.S. curriculum, and maybe they’ll have a small activity in their schoolyard, but more of a festival celebration than any of, you know, scaring kids and stuff like that. But no, definitely Palestinians don’t have that. [Garbled] have parties. Certain places in the West Bank, for example like Bethlehem or Ramallah, I mean those two because, these two cities, you can see the modern, the quick change in generation, the life style, so people live more of a modern… The other cities, they’re more traditional Palestinian towns. So, ahhh—-
BRYAN CRUMP: Is there any marking of, of the Day of the Dead in Palestine?
FADWA HODALI: No actually they celebrate the Day of the Dead and if I’m not mistaken, it’s tomorrow or the day after. So yes, Christians celebrate that. Absolutely, definitely.
BRYAN CRUMP: How many Christians live in, given that it’s the birthplace of Jesus, how many Christians live in Bethlehem?
FADWA HODALI: In the West Bank, unfortunately they don’t reach the seventy thousand people. This includes Bethlehem and the whole surrounding area, parts of Ramallah area, this is where mostly Christians, you see them living. A little bit up north, but not much. For example, I don’t think there’s any Christian families in the Hebron governorate. They’re mostly in the Bethlehem governorate and the Ramallah governorate. Unfortunately we’ve seen a lot of emigration from the Christian side.
BRYAN CRUMP: People LEAVING the area?
FADWA HODALI: Leaving the area, yes, and seeking better opportunity. Especially the young generation. The young generation, we’re witnessing that a lot, and this is a real loss, because you know, you get to a point in life where you see more of the elderly than the younger generation, and you need the renewal of blood in order to continue and sustain the daily life. So unfortunately a lot of people from the Christian society leave.
BRYAN CRUMP: So there won’t be any kids knocking on YOUR door tonight? Asking for treats.
FADWA HODALI: No, definitely not. [laughs wryly]
BRYAN CRUMP: Nor on the local Israeli army barracks doors or any settlement gates for that matter.
FADWA HODALI: No, definitely not. Absolutely not, because I don’t think you don’t know what’s going to happen next. [laughter] It’s unfortunate. RP, yes, I’ve seen that story, run in the WSJ indeed. One has to wonder if this is merely a piece of finely judged end running by the RNC (I don’t think Trump has the means and sources to plan this, or the ability) or a genuine groundswell of revulsion at the Clinton’s corrupt ways.

Either way, a couple more days of this and we very well may be looking at a Trump landslide. God help us all, it’s been fun contemplating a possible Clinton fall, she’s had it coming for a very long time, but we really are entering uncharted territory. Let’s hope it’s not the fulfillment of the reputed Chinese curse “may you live in interesting times”.

Still. we’ll all just have to live with what ever happens; nothing at all we can do from here to influence a single thing. Once we get over the euphoria of all the exploding SJW and leftoid heads, what next…

NYPD Blows Whistle on New Hillary Emails: Money Laundering, Sex Crimes with Children, Child Exploitation, Pay to Play, Perjury

New York Police Department detectives and prosecutors working an alleged underage sexting case against former Congressman Anthony Weiner have turned over a newly-found laptop he shared with wife Huma Abedin to the FBI with enough evidence “to put Hillary (Clinton) and her crew away for life,” NYPD sources told True Pundit.

NYPD sources said Clinton’s “crew” also included several unnamed yet implicated members of Congress in addition to her aides and insiders.

The NYPD seized the computer from Weiner during a search warrant and detectives discovered a trove of over 500,000 emails to and from Hillary Clinton, Abedin and other insiders during her tenure as secretary of state. The content of those emails sparked the FBI to reopen its defunct email investigation into Clinton on Friday.

But new revelations on the contents of that laptop, according to law enforcement sources, implicate the Democratic presidential candidate, her subordinates, and even select elected officials in far more alleged serious crimes than mishandling classified and top secret emails, sources said.

NYPD sources said these new emails include evidence linking Clinton herself and associates to:
Money laundering
Child exploitation
Sex crimes with minors (children)
Perjury
Pay to play through Clinton Foundation
Obstruction of justice
Other felony crimes

NYPD detectives and a NYPD Chief, the department’s highest rank under Commissioner, said openly that if the FBI and Justice Department fail to garner timely indictments against Clinton and co- conspirators, NYPD will go public with the damaging emails now in the hands of FBI Director James Comey and many FBI field offices.

“What’s in the emails is staggering and as a father, it turned my stomach,” the NYPD Chief said. “There is not going to be any Houdini-like escape from what we found. We have copies of everything. We will ship them to Wikileaks or I will personally hold my own press conference if it comes to that.”

The NYPD Chief said once Comey saw the alarming contents of the emails he was forced to reopen a criminal probe against Clinton.

“People are going to prison,” he said…

…The new emails contain travel documents and itineraries indicating Hillary Clinton, President Bill Clinton, Weiner and multiple members of Congress and other government officials accompanied convicted pedophile billionaire Jeffrey Epstein on his Boeing 727 on multiple occasions to his private island in the U.S Virgin Islands, sources said. Epstein’s island has also been dubbed Orgy Island or Sex Slave Island where Epstein allegedly pimps out underage girls and boys to international dignitaries.

Both NYPD and FBI sources confirm based on the new emails they now believe Hillary Clinton traveled as Epstein’s guest on at least six occasions, probably more when all the evidence is combed, sources said.     I never look at websites BTW, I look at articles and trust myself to determine veracity or otherwise. Thus I never care what a website purports otherwise than the articles I’ve read on it.
    
    I found I had to adopt this approach because I have eclectic tastes and the “reliable” sources cover hardly anything of significance these days at least in the West. Since the interweb is in its Wild West days because the authorities haven’t yet found a way to control it, I take advantage of that.

  If you’re a baddy there are two ways to live in the 21st century: off the grid or get lost in the noise.
  
  The GCSB must deal with both.
  
  The only way to deal with the latter throughly and with accuracy and given that baddies are normally discovered in the midst of long term operations, not when they’re starting out, therefore you often need to replay things when you’re investigating.
  
  They have software that identifies significant associates and can run a timeline going back as far as you want viewing anything you want, for the principal and/or any associate(s), be it CCTV footage, bank account transactions, cellphone position fixes, recorded conversations (tape your cam up on your PC if you don’t want to be recorded), phone calls, either separately or all of them as they happened, during the selected time period.
  
  The only way to re-create this is to vacuum everything up and store it, which is what they do and why they do it.

The rate payers had forked out over $500,000.00 for two statues no one really wanted. Even the mayor was not told of the costs.

  The fact remains that China is still adding extra capacity, albeit of a greener kind than the dirty micro-mills of the smog bowl.
  
  The giant state producer Sinosteel – with $16bn of debts – was rescued from bankruptcy in October. The reforms failed their first big test. UBS estimates that the 100 biggest steel producers in China lost $11bn in the first ten months of last year. The state plugged the hole.
  
  The Commie Party of China needs to keep the economy growing lest people think its One Party System isn’t quite so wonderful after all and a population of Asians isn’t as easy to fool with fake numbers as some [ahem] other races so they gotta do some serious trickery with the numbers but combine that with the endemic asian bribery lifestyle and you have a powderkeg.
  
  Britain’s special relationship with China is becoming more expensive by the day. It now threatens to destroy the British steel industry, a foundation pillar of our manufacturing economy…
  
  …If this is correct, and if allowed to run its course, Europe would be finished as an industrial and military region. It would be civilisational suicide.
  
  This is what China potentially represents to every country across every industry. How that can or should be managed I have no idea but it’s a phenomena that we and more especially our children will need to get used to and deal with.

Christchurch police pour $20,000 worth of confiscated alcohol down the drain.

French champagnes, $800 red wines, expensive cognac and 18-year-old whisky have all gone down the drain at the Christchurch Police Station.

About $20,000 worth of confiscated booze was tipped out on Thursday, made up of 52 litres of spirits, 154 litres of wine and 137 litres of beer.

Sergeant Jon Harris confiscated the 343 litres of booze, in 493 bottles, in June this year after visiting a Christchurch restaurant displaying alcohol for sale without a licence.

The haul included some “pretty exclusive alcohol”, he said.

“There was some $800 bottles of red wine which were pretty painful to tip out.”

The Cantonese restaurant, called Lin’s Tomoei, had its on-licence revoked in August 2015.

Apart from the nanny status that enforced this here is the problem.

Ecan and various other water control authorizes have been trying to clean up the water ways. As can be seen in the video’s these useless cops are polluting the storm water system with bottles and bottles of alcohol.

I await someone from Ecan prosecuting these dopey turkeys.

Holiday home owners may be liable for accidents involving paying guests

Holiday home owners and Airbnb operators can be held responsible if paying guests are injured as a result of poor maintenance.

Worksafe has confirmed that, like regular landlords, holiday home owners and Airbnb operators renting out their properties are covered by the Health and Safety Act because they are involved in a business transaction.

It’s estimated there are at least 15,000 holiday homes on the rental market and more than 17,000 Airbnb operators throughout the country.

Worksafe chief executive Gordon MacDonald said owners had to manage risks and take “reasonably practicable” steps to ensure guest safety.
