  Indeed, it’s going to be interesting to see what happens next. The last 17 months we’ve seen a cool, composed, sincere-sounding 6 foot + Alpha Male with a record of success and no shady dealings (that I’m aware of) , promising real change, loved by millions, packing out rallies 4 times a day.
  
  vs.
  
  A shrieking , harpy-voiced lesbian dwarf with a record of at the very least ,shady, dealings, and at the most: Illegal, depraved and immoral , loved by none…waving her little arms around in the pissing rain, pandering to pathetically small crowds of weirdos.
  
  Given she has pretty much zero likeability with her brain dead “supporters” only seeming to back her at the orders of the MSM rather than through their own conviction, it would be amazing not to see Trump win by a landslide.

  Thats not to mention the Podesta emails in which we have learned the elites are into cannibalism, child sex, Satan worship and bestiality.
  
  If it wasn’t the MSM trying to distract us with faux Trump outrage, any fair minded person should consider these to be MASSIVE. If they’re worried that the next one is going to be a whopper – it must be a real bombshell.

Let us embrace the hyperbole that is the US elections. We all must outdo the last extreme statement of the intense, horrific and ultimate evil of the Clintons. We must must find new and even more extreme words to denounce them.
It’s not that I support Hillary (I don’t) but the bloody silly hysteria has become laughable.

When was the last time any policy was mentioned?

I do note Hillary is playing this game as well, which is a shame. Pity at least one side couldn’t rise above it, but alas …….

    You are right. I haven’t seen few of these policies mentioned. I actually agree with most, kind of. I do think his statements on free trade agreements is at best naive and at worst dangerous for the US. It could lead to isolationism. I have heard a few people say he will pull his head in a bit once reality sinks in. I hope so.

National are probably the most economically divisive government NZ has had.

Over taxation means younger wage and salary earners struggle to put together a house deposit. The property bubble favours those with debt free housing ie able to leverage and National have flooded the country with cheap Chinese money which has paid zero tax.

Great numbers of New Zealanders have been disenfranchised by this smug National government.

    but wage growth is far lower now. 2000-2010 had wage growth of 50% (about 4% per year). With wages only growing at 2% per year now it would take 2-3x as long to unwind the present bubble without a price drop. Not sure that is possible without a market-scaring/scarring reduction in prices.

On the Stuff web site a prominent report’s headline includes the statement that Tonga is New Zealand’s closest neighbour.

A quick check shows that Nuku’alofa is indeed only 1999.5 km from Auckland by air while Sydney is 2155 km from NZ’s little Shanghai.

However at the other end of New Zealand, which as a country lies north-east to south-west, Invercargill is 1703km from Hobart. Moreover, Norfolk Island, Australia’s oldest territory (settled six weeks after Sydney), is just 1074km from Auckland.

On those counts, I think Australia is still New Zealand’s closest neighbour.

Stuff has stuffed up.

        Only then, did Tonga lay claim to the reefs.
        
        There is a tiny NZ islet closer to Tonga than Raoul – Nugent Island.
        
        The distance between Australia’s Macquarie island and NZ’s Campbell Island in the sub-Antarctic is 718 km, which beats Vic’s 781 km from Nugent Island to Tonga’s tiny (30-acre) atoll of Ata, which seems to serve Tonga as a youth prison.
        
        However, if we are to consider Griff’s mostly submerged Minerva reefs as legitimate land, then Griff wins, at least at high tide. The reefs are about 615 km from NZ’s Nugent Island. The Stuff headline writer is thus correct – for a couple of hours a day.

McAuliffe sought to allow all of Virginia’s estimated 200,000 felons to vote, but state courts said each individual felon’s circumstances must be weighed. To get around that, McAuliffe used a mechanical autopen to rapidly sign thousands of letters, as if he had personally reviewed them, even as his office was saying the total was 13,000.

Now, The Daily Caller News Foundation Investigative Group has learned that McAuliffe — who managed Clinton’s unsuccessful 2008 presidential campaign — churned out five times as many letters before the registration deadline than publicly claimed.

  Sounds like a reasonable response to an accident.
  The other story about the town drinking water out of an animal race is a result of the towns bore getting dangerously low so the council is getting an emergency backup which seems sensible.
  Water will be fully treated so don’t see a problem here.

Perhaps Labour should still be pushed for the exact costs which they use to calculate their $ 60 million figure, since their website said 6 months but they now change it to 4.
For once I would like to see Labour’s maths, just to check how bloody robust “robust” really means.

PS: Why is it a 6 month plan, when “evidence” suggests people will drop out on average at 4 months?

  Probably 6 months is max period. If you scale the $120m to 4 months (from 6) then you are down to $80m. If you allow tax at 25% (seems a bit high though) then you’d be at the $60m. But it’s a bit of a stretch and they’d have been safer saying 3 months on average and saying it up front. But then I suppose it loses it’s impact (though saying it’s shorter than 6 months as they get jobs would be a positive spin).

What a fantastic trip to Chicago. Sure, the All Blacks lost to a magnificent Irish performance yesterday, but if anything that enhanced the occasion.

It was the largest crowd ever for a rugby match in the US at more than 62,000, with huge contingents of Irish and New Zealand fans. And I saw nothing but good grace in defeat from the thousands of Kiwis who had shelled out good money to be there. After the match there were hugs and handshakes galore with ecstatic Irish fans, and bars in Chicago were packed with Black and Green clad supporters toasting one another with good cheer. All big bruv’ she expectations of boorish behaviour were unfounded.

And it was amazing to be present for the Cubs’ World Series win and the celebrations on Friday. All in all it was a week that will never be forgotten, and it was worth every penny. All that remains now is a flight from San Francisco to Auckland this evening.

Chicago; you rock. And for anyone lucky enough to go there, you simply MUST visit Buddy Guy’s Legends Bar!

  I’m really glad it worked out so well for you. Just an incredible confluence of sporting events and it does not surprise me to hear that the AB supporters were so good in congratulating ecstatic Irish fans and even celebrating with them.
  
  I can only hope that after the initial sting of defeat, the Indians fans were similarly inclined towards Chicago. From what I read on the sport blogs and the like, it sounds like they were: it’s not as if the Indians lost it badly or on one terrible error or anything like that. In the end they just ran out of batters and pitchers.
  
  I do hope you managed to make it to one or two of the other venues I suggested. But if not, then next time if the Rugby authorities are going to cointinue with games in the city.

In the end Comey might have done Hillary a favour. Presumably the New York FBI agents who had Weiners computer and waited for weeks before telling Comey about it were all set to leak the discovery if Comey had not announced it. That would have fed Trumps cover up and rigged theme right up until polling day. His earlier announcement coincided with bad news for the Clinton camp around Bill Clinton inc and Obama care premiums but Trump does not seem to have made as much of those as he could have as he has concentrated on the bigger then Watergate emails.

Now it is back to status quo Trump looks a bit silly saying the FBI are on Clintons side when everyone else thinks they are on his. This might just be enough to get the Democrats out in big numbers on their Tuesday when otherwise they might have stayed home worrying about how to pay for their medical insurance.

    milky, and there are also (I understand) rules around short prison sentences vs home detention vs community sentences. I’m saying change the rules. Depriving convicts of leisure time makes more sense to me than making them (and their families) state beneficiaries. You’ll see I’ve drawn my line on incarceration at kicking defenseless people in the head. Wake-up call for 1st offenders is a short sentence but for this sort of behaviour, 4 years to grow out of it. No more weekends off, hand wringy counselling courses (assuming they work) and the chain gang snipping roadside weeds for the rest of the weekend.

When you apply the smell test to the latest email saga that has just been given the thumbs up by Comey all I get is last weeks fish left out in the sun.

I find it very hard to believe it was a detailed examination. Sounds like a CYA situation.

There are a number of concerned people in the states demanding that the FBI release the emails so anyone in doubt can read them. Fat chance…

There are new releases by Wikileaks every day now and if half are true give great cause for concern.

      Agree Reid. There has to be more to come. I cannot believe someone like Comey in his position, reopened the case without something very solid ( even without looking at the emails). As RF says above –the smell test is extremely off on this.
      
      There has to be a much bigger agenda at play here. But what? ( all very conspiratorial but with everything we have learnt about their corrupt system over recent weeks , anything is possible).

A $300 million funding injection for emergency housing will provide up to another 1400 places for vulnerable Kiwis and “fill the gap” while permanent homes are built, Social Housing Minister Paula Bennett says.

The Government has announced the funding boost for more emergency housing places, extra support for tenants and more frontline staff.

Unveiling the package at Prime Minister John Key’s post-Cabinet press conference, Bennett said it would give “some of our most vulnerable New Zealanders…the support they need”.

Auckland Mayor Phil Goff is recommending that councillors adopt a raft of new measures to strengthen scrutiny of Council Controlled Organisations (CCOs), including Auckland Transport.

Among the measures, he is recommending councillors no longer be appointed to the Auckland Transport board as allowed under the Super City legislation, but be allowed to compete with other candidates for board roles.

The new mayor has been criticised by councillors Mike Lee and Chris Fletcher – who have sat on the board for the past six years – for not appointing councillor directors.

Clinton wins, but Republicans have Congress – Democrats fall short 49-51 in the Senate.

A neutered Clinton achieves little on domestic policy without becoming a puppet …

1. who decides the SC Justice appointment – does Congress propose and if Clinton accepts she is not impeached – oh those DC deals
2. what will they ask for to give her Obamacare improvements, surely not no veto on funding cuts for women medical care
3. what do they ask in return for more money on affordable “college” education, betraying teachers unions ….
4. does she build a wall and agree to removals of some to get a path for residence for others

and holds the status quo on foreign policy, maybe even trade (TPP in the recess now about 1 in 3 chance).
