I was astonished by this Poll. It goes against common thought-I guess we will see if it’s true later today.
‘An election eve poll finds sweeping support for immigration enforcement even among most Hispanics in the United States, potentially bolstering Donald Trump’s presidential bid.
The Pulse Opinion Research survey found that 51 percent of Hispanics believe that there has been “too little” done to enforce immigration laws. What’s more, by a margin of 49 percent to 36 percent, Hispanics “support a policy causing illegal immigrants to return home by enforcing the law.”
Overall, the survey done for the Center for Immigration Studies, found that most Americans, 54 percent, believe that the administration has done too little to enforce immigration laws and 56 percent support returning illegals.
Immigration has been a huge issue in the election and most pundits have reasoned that Trump’s call for enforcement and construction of a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border has pushed Hispanics into Hillary Rodham Clinton’s camp.’

Then in January 1998, Nasa’s Near spacecraft suddenly saw its speed jump by 13mm/s as it swung past Earth. The same phenomena were also seen in 1999 when the Cassini spacecraft’s speed jumped by 0.11mm/s, and again in 2005 when the Rosetta spacecraft jumped by 2mm/s while flying by Earth.
    
    These incidents are known as “flyby anomalies” and no one knows why they occur.
    
    Hmmm. I don’t see why these cannot have been caused by some unknown or perhaps temporary gravitational change in the local area – some sort of moving version of the “Mascons” in the moons crust that similarly affected spacecraft in lunar orbit.

  You write-off the USA prematurely, JIV, and in my view take an overly-pessimistic view of what is a temporary, one-off process in American affairs. An election doesn’t go close to defining a country, any country. Subsequent decisions and actions of the executive, the legislature and the judiciary always have a far greater impact.
  
  Most people are disappointed by the quality of this year’s candidates and their presidential campaigns. But the USA won’t be brought to its knees, or anything like that, whoever wins today’s election.
  
  Poor electoral candidates are not limited to the USA. Most democracies have them from time to time. For my part I’m heartened that the strength of the US Constitution will underpin and guide that country’s international power and leadership position for the foreseeable future. I also expect that, in world geopolitical affairs, the USA will remain a much greater force for good than for evil.
  
  Sadly, by way of an example that comes to mind readily, I can’t say the same for Mama Merkel’s recent governance of Germany.

It was a great game, no doubt about it. But it was a FRIENDLY match. It wasn’t the Rugby World Cup, it wasn’t the Six Nations, it wasn’t the Triple Crown. It was a friendly. So, while every Irish fan is no doubt delighted, none of them would be so deluded as to go totally over the top celebrating a win, no matter how splendid, in what was merely a friendly match.

Surely not. Surely….

The rugby was a “FRIENDLY”? I’m amused when I hear that name to describe football games between countries. It’s a soccer word to describe their games.

It wasn’t a World Cup match or part of some other tournament? Big deal.

It was an international match, it was a test match, a a plain simple, international test match and was significant for that. And the first ever win.

So Ferguson is surprised there isn’t going to be a parade? Big deal. If I were Irish and there I’d hope there’d be one!

Dear Mayor Phil Goff,

My intended subject matter, is the need for statutory compliance by Auckland Council elected representatives and staff, regarding the ‘Rule of Law’ which pertains to transparency in the spending of public monies, particularly on public services currently provided by private sector consultants and contractors.

In particular, the Public Records Act 2005, and the Local Government (Auckland Council) Act 2009.

Given that I have been successful in obtaining a Local Government And Environment Select Committee Report, regarding my concerns on the current lack of transparency particularly with Auckland Council Controlled Organisations (CCOs) with their spending, I look forward to the opportunity to formally (and briefly) share with this new 2016 Auckland Council, my constructive recommendations for a positive path forward.

In essence, how can you have genuine transparency and accountability without full and accurate public records, available for public scrutiny?

How can you act in a fiscally prudent way, which enables genuine ‘cost-effectiveness’ in the spending of public monies, unless you first know exactly where the ‘costs’ fall?

How can you start preparing any future Auckland Council planning without first having this vital information on Auckland Council and Auckland Council Controlled Organisation (CCO) spending?

This afternoon, as the trend to the evil clown Donald Trump became clear, it was an atmosphere akin to carnival at NewstalkZB….

ANDREW DICKENS: It looks like Florida has gone to Trump! Here’s CNN again.

WOLF BLITZER (CNN): With ninety-one per cent of the votes counted—it’s IMPRESSIVE how quickly this state of ten million voters gets its count in so fast!—it’s almost certainly a Trump win!

KERRE McIVOR (née ohoWmad): Wow.

ANDREW DICKENS: Now here’s Fox News. You’ll be happy to know I’ve also been watching Fox!

LARRY “LACKWIT” WILLIAMS: Good to see some balanced reporting!

KERRE McIVOR: [grimly] Heh, heh, heh, heh!

ANDREW DICKENS: Ho, ho, ho, ho! Fox is calling Alabama for Trump!

KERRE McIVOR: Ha ha! All right, the time is—

ANDREW DICKENS:What time is it?

KERRE McIVOR: Ha ha ha! Twenty-one to three!

ANDREW DICKENS: Ha ha ha ha!

…..Commercial break…..

YOUNG FEMALE CALLER: I have made a point of avoiding all this election talk. I believe that the winner has already been decided, and that the whole election process is just a charade.

KERRE McIVOR: Oh, oka-a-a-a-ay-y-y-y.

YOUNG FEMALE CALLER: I believe it is Hillary Clinton that has been selected, and that this will be an evil period like the world has never seen before.

KERRE McIVOR: What a DARK world you live in! [She cuts her off.] Oh, she’s gone!

ANDREW DICKENS: [sardonically] Well, it’s an opinion.

KERRE McIVOR: [snorting] They’re not ALL valid!

ANDREW DICKENS: I know that.

….ad nauseam…

Later, I watched a brief snatch of NewstalkZB’s American equivalent: Rupert Murdoch’s mad, bad, dangerous Fox News. Four men in suits sat round a table, trying to look serious. Chris Wallace was speaking, while the others nodded their heads in solemn agreement….

CHRIS WALLACE: …the outright BIAS and LACK OF OBJECTIVITY of the other channels when it came to Donald Trump….

…continues raving with not the slightest hint of irony….
