An important figure in the Catholic church has warned that everyone in Italy will ‘soon be Muslim’ due to the country’s ‘stupidity’.

Italian Archbishop, Monsignor Carlo Liberati, said that the growing number of Muslim migrants in Europe and increasing secularism will lead to Islam becoming the continent’s foremost religion.

The Bishop Emeritus of Pompeii said: ‘In 10 years we will all be Muslims because of our stupidity. Italy and Europe live in a pagan and atheist way, they make laws that go against God and they have traditions that are proper of paganism.

  Why are the leaders blaming the people when it’s the leaders who did this to the people not the other way round?
  
  I mean the people were powerful morons for letting them over these decades slice the elephant so that eventually, the leaders knew they could get away with what they have.
  
  Which is why I call them sheeple.
  
  But you’d think wouldn’t ya the sheeple might stop being sheeple once in a while and actually learn something.

  It is one of the weird things about western decadence that Catholic countries, once famed for their birthrates, now have some of the biggest demographic collapses. What is Italy, 1.2 children per woman now?
  
  Not saying Protestant countries are inherently any better. Or Japan, not part of Christendom at all. But Catholics are still the butt of ridicule over clerical attitudes to birth control; yet it would seem the Catholic rank and file doesn’t give a toss what the spiritual leadership says.

      There are perverse incentives to traditional family formation that could be addressed; eg housing affordability – always a problem due to modern save-the-planet eco-lunacy; taxation treatment of 2-parent households.
      
      Apart from that, just run with the demographic collapse and don’t base policy on the concept that importing young people on a multi-culti, relativist basis is going to do anything other than make the problem worse.

        There are exceptions – Catholic Poland for example. Church attendance is actually on the rise in that country. And the Church is growing in places like Korea, China, India , Africa etc.
        We are in what may be called the “Post European Era”. 🙂

        There is no such thing anymore. Don’s right – we are in the post-Christian-era. Doesn’t mean Christianity is over. It never needed Caesar’s blessing, and indeed, some books in the biblical canon – both Old and New Testament, such as Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, the Acts of the Apostles and the Revelation – are their to underline that point.
        
        Not so good for various political and ideological agendas seeking to leverage and take advantage of the Christian faith for at-times sub- or even anti-biblical ends. Such as (to quote you) “evangelicals” / “fundamentalists” mostly based in the USA. That you can more or less equate evangelicals with fundamentalists shows how bad the slide has become.

        Sorry, Don. Misread your post. “Post-European”? Interesting. Time will tell, although even that phrase doesn’t imply that European culture disappears, just that its hegemony is over. But then that scenario presupposes a self-fulfilling “clash of cultures” that some around here seem to think is a self-evident truth when it ain’t necessarily so.

It seems that a “clergy” is what is prone to infiltration and takeover, while a church that is based on laity participation is less so.
        
        I don’t think it is right to make the categories of fundamentalist and evangelical mutually exclusive, either. There would be plenty of evangelising done by fundamentalists. It is a more modern phenomenon, that near-secular-self-help gurus call themselves “evangelists” and fill stadiums. These movements are as next to useless against PC, as the established churches with an infiltrated clergy.

        There would be plenty of evangelising done by fundamentalists.
        
        But, despite the name, “evangelising” is not the defining factor in evangelical belief and practice, more an out-growth. You need to go back to the Reformation, and then, in the English-speaking world, the Wesleyans for the roots of evangelicalism. But in the USA, ever since the second great revival, it has been ‘a mile wide and an inch deep’. Personal experience and anti-intellectualism have, sadly, dominated. Or at least they have once Abolitionism, Prohibition and the New Deal ran their course. It has been said that the story of American Christianity is the victory of Arminianism over Calvinism. Sadly that is true. Hence, as you observe, evangelicalism has degenerated to the point where…

        I’d also make the point, Philbest, that the great Swiss-German theologian, Karl Barth, “the” theologian of the 20th Century was rightly distrustful of cultural concerns usurping the Gospel (“evangel”). The essence of Christianity is that, before God says “yes” to us in Christ, he says “no” to us, including and especially our culture. For Barth that meant initially rejecting the liberal “universal fatherhood of God/brotherhood of all men/upward march of European progress” that characterised 19th Century liberal Protestant theology, which had came crashing down in the Great War
        
        ..and it also meant him publicly opposing the Churches (both Protestant and Catholic) which hailed Hitler and the Nazis as “gifts from God”, and founding the “Confessing Church” in its place. Seems obvious now. Of course the Nazis were anti-Christian. Not so clear, even if you were a member of the nation that gave the world ‘kultur”. Which is how one’s own culture can blind. Like a fish swimming in water, one is oblivious to it.
        
        And which is also why, sadly, proponents of preserving our “Judaeo-Christian culture and heritage” are just as much enemies of the gospel as Islamists, and neo-Marxist SJWs. Christ is counter-cultural. Any attempt to co-opt him for one’s ideological, political or cultural ends will fail, because that is a denial of his Lordship.

        Don’t forget the Islands, Don.
        There are more churches (per person) in Samoa than any other country on the planet.
        A new half a mill one was opened last week.
        But what good are they actually doing for the people?
        Contraception is extremely difficult to obtain, abortion is illegal.
        Families are huge and poverty is widespread.
        (That’s why nearly all Samoans want to come here.)
        Also last week it was alleged that a place set up for abandoned kids is feeding babies tea to save money and the carer threatens to hit any babies who cry.)
        And Samoa is way better than many of the Pacific Islands.
        Christianity is not doing much good for any of them.

      I have always regarded Trevor Loudon as an excellent researcher and someone who worth noticing. He doesn’t subscribe to the loony Alex Jones / Stormfront conspiracy stuff, but he has been decades patiently assembling and archiving the contemporary history of the western radical left in his lifetime. His ability to produce a dossier on some social justice agitator when they come to prominence, is impressive. He seems to have searchable archives on, for example, who were the attendees at “peace and justice” conferences anywhere in the world since around the mid 1970’s.

      Actually the best thing that ever happened to Europe, was “The Reformation”. Same God but just greater freedom to access and process Holy Writ. This is self-evident from history if you look at it.
      
      “Enlightenment” philosophy coming adrift later on from its moral moorings, is what led to Fascism and Communism.

      Just as the Renaissance gave birth to the Reformation, so the Reformation gave birth to the Enlightenment.
      
      But I wouldn’t be so quick to write off the Enlightenment, or say that that communism and fascism an inevitable outcome. Or at least that is what I think you are implying. It didn’t in the USA. Or Britain and her colonies. Mind you, no doubt reflecting my biases, I’d suggest that Protestant theology played a part in those countries (German Lutheranism was too passive about the state compared to other later forms of Protestantism, especially Calvinism, plus there was always the Catholic South of Germany that stopped it being a Protestant nation like Britain and the Netherlands)

        John Locke, sometimes referred to as the father of the enlightenment, really anticipated even the Reformation, and his entire arguments for liberty etc were based on the Bible. The other strand of enlightenment, represented by say Voltaire, is quite different to this, and is more an apostasy than an appeal to first principles like Locke
        
        Voltaire was a Deist, so I’m not so sure about that…although he certainly undermined what is now categorised as “organised religion”. And in many cases with good reason, as had Erasmus and Luther before him, although not to the same extent, or with an anti-Christian intent.
        
        Descartes’ cogito ergo sum kicks off the Enlightenment, IMHO. Until then, external supernatural revelation and/or “the world out there” (even when philosophy was employed to understand it, as with the Greeks, which was revived in the Renaissance), were the standards by which reality is discerned. But once Cartesian skepticism and the human mind are enshrined as the “starting point”, a sea change occurred the Enlightenment was off and running…and Descrates continues to “rule from beyond the grave”.
        
        Once you dare to question and critique an authority, then there is no stopping the process.

  The little morality tale is all about a bunch of peaceful farmers! As if farming on that scale of normality was possible in a state of incessant tribal warfare, with pretty much everything needing to be done behind stockades to preserve it from marauders.
  
  Some wrongs were done with The Crown participating, and many of them have already been put right (if anything there is erring on the side of allowing double-dipping and triple-dipping for the descendants). But without the Crown, were you free from “injustice”? Were Te Rauparaha’s descendants going to get a conscience one day and “restore” their wrongs? Not that they bothered to leave any descendants to press for restoration, in those days!
  
  The “…story of broken promises, generations of injustice, second-class treatment and now, of political expediency…” sounds a bit like the way National is setting up most Kiwis forever now, including to a significant extent, ordinary Maori who are not part of “Te Industry”. It is lunacy, suicide even, to create a class with powers of veto and extortion over the entire real economy; settlements should have been in cash, to “all Maori”, and pretty much pro rata. That way, ordinary Maori would see some benefit.

      “Taking” was a norm in human history. If not by one tribe from another tribe, then by the ruler / ruling class, from whoever they chose. Even when Te Tiriti was signed, that would have been the condition of 80%+ of humanity. Maori negotiating their way into one of the world’s earliest systems of property rights, title, justice and compensation, was a stroke of genius on their part and should be recognised as such.
      
      I even doubt the rate of injustices over land takings in the 1800’s would have been anything worse than what was being done to some of the British in Britain itself at that time. In fact Britain was made up of a landed gentry versus the rest. The idea that land “belonged to grassroots inhabitants” and they could sell it to the rich and powerful, would have been laughable. If anything, Maori were among the luckiest people on earth.

Is this comment nesting an improvement or a degradation?

I’m finding it bloody annoying having to scroll halfway up the bloody page just to keep up to date with a thread I’m interested in, I much prefer the old way where you just quoted the bit of the post you were responding to.

What do others think? Maybe we can ask DPF to change it back.

  The threading is great, but needs a bit of a UI addition in order to follow comments and know how “deep” you are in a thread.

  Comments nesting is the industry norm, and if you came to Kiwiblog pre-nesting, from being used to nesting everywhere else, the lack of it drives you nuts. How do you get a “followable” argument going otherwise?

  When it was first introduced I didn’t like the new look either – particularly the comments nesting – but now I rather prefer it. Nesting nicely preserves the train of thought about a subject without having to quote pieces all the time and aim them at the original commenter. It also means one can skip through the subjects one is not so interested in (and those where Stephieboy has ruined the thread).

  Most people haven’t got the time to be searching back through a screen of comments to locate the site where a new gem of information may have been placed.
  
  The nesting works fine if you want to read over comments a day or so later…

    I find it pretty easy to just search for either my own name (if I have commented), a keyword or the name of the original commenter. Works quickly for me… but it might depend on which browser you are using. Surely this is easier than reading through everything just to pick out individual comments?

Interesting reflections on Australia and New Zealand from the English blogger I introduced on yesterdays General Debate. He speaks about what he sees as a somewhat deluded and romantic view many Englishmen have about “escaping to the Antipodes” to escape the growing 3rd world nightmare of the UK and how their vision of the South Seas doesn’t match reality.

The experience of Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong shows that ethnically Chinese people are quite capable of defining themselves as being separate from China proper. My own experience of young people in the Chinese diaspora in New Zealand is that most of them are utterly deracinated, living in a miasma of American pop-culture and having very little contact with actual New Zealanders. Many of them don’t sound Kiwi, but talk with horrible faux-affected American accents. The danger is that New Zealand becomes a multi-racial, multi-ethnic melting pot of rootless consumers rather than the new Britannia in another world that it was meant to be.

According to an article in the November Quadrant magazine, there is even cultural cringe in Australia to the extent that the authorities won’t intervene on behalf of Muslim girls wanting to escape from oppressive family situations, including the knowledge that they will be forcibly married in their teens, usually to an older relative, and usually on a trip outside Australia.

        If you are prepared to accept a ‘multi racial, multi ethnic melting pot’ you are going to have to accept that by definition not everyone will have a western, judeo-christian background and beliefs.     Really NZ offered the original immigrants from Britannia, something better than Britannia. For example, the opportunity of owning your own horse was a massive drawcard for many. Don’t belittle this, put yourself back in the shoes of people in those days, where you could see a small minority of well-off enjoying the mobility that horses provided.
    
    Of course part of “owning your own horse” included owning a residential property large enough to graze it and stable it. Just like the “landed gentry” in Britannia. Jack finally as good as his master. The democratization of home ownership and the improvement of housing, and the democratization of mobility, should be an important part of “what we are”.

  Can you explain what the author meant by ‘actual New Zealanders’? Does he mean people born in NZ or the stereotypical image of a stubbies and gumboots, can make anything in his shed Fred Dagg clone?

I heard from a friend at the Auckland Tennis competition that they were all subject to a native haka before the ladies final.
She and a number of people around her were saddened by this rather primitive painted half naked over weight fat men shouting and screeching at them.
She called it cringeworthy to the highest degree.
When will this highly embarrasing spectacle at every opportunity stop ?

    Relate the words to Te Rauparaha, and the circumstances under which he made up the haka – he was hiding in a kumara pit for a couple of days because his enemies were hunting for him and were to kill him – but they didn’t find him.
    I think spending a few days in a kumara pit would make you feel like death – but when he emerged, it was like new life.

The electronic media in NZ has been shut down for more than three (3) weeks. This contrasts sharply with other nations, Australia in particular. The bullshit about pollies going on holiday ‘with their young families” is just that. They get weeks and weeks of holidays during the yerar but give themselves a further 4-5 weeks at our expense. And the accdredited media pack is part of the scam.
The “duty” Minister is almost always the lowest ranked. But their unforgiveable absence notwithstanding, I for one do not miss their pack-like babbling, Monday to Friday. This has provided time to consider and reject the even more mindless garbage now presented. ….. Oh well, only in NZ… 🙂

  About 47 states are involved in the F35 – every state wanted a snout in the trough. That pshes up project costs.
  
  It is a piece of shit as far as actually doing the work goes. It cannot do the jobs that current aircraft do (A10, F16 and Harrier).
  
  USA has not put together a decent well designed plane that meets operational objectives since the F18 in 1978. That’s back when engineers used slide rules. Other useful planes of note: Harrier (1966), C130 (1950s), F16 (1974) and A10(1977).

    I just read earlier one possible reason for all the US carriers being in port is they are replacing all the copper wiring with fibre. They are doing because of the Russian’s ability to electronically shut down copper-wired combat systems and no doubt you’ve read about the various incidents of them doing this to US ships.
    
    So don’t under-estimate the Russians.
    
    Plowing all these resources into a Frankenstein monster that tries to be all things and succeeds at none, was and is complete insanity. It’s actually treason because think what else they could have done with those resources.
    
    But that’s the politics of vested interests coming through. Massive money at stake, equally massive donations through lobbyists to all important players, the only one who suffers is Uncle Sam and the American people, and the players clearly care nothing about either of them.

How could any senior exec in any of the major media companies be so profoundly oblivious to reality that they don’t know what all of us here knew years ago: all they have to do is use their existing resources to give us objective serious penetrating intelligent insightful material and we’ll start reading/watching them again. How can anyone in those positions not be aware of that?
  
  Of course they are.
  
  So why are they doing this to themselves?
  
  Noticed that its the older generation who is turned off by it? The milllenials still watch it because they’ve been trained into it. That’s the plan. And those of us with history have a comparison standard which they don’t. So they don’t know any better. In other words, during the 80’s and since, it all changed. Why did it change, is the next question. What are they hoping to achieve? Dumbing it all down? What does that do to a population? Makes it easier to control, and fool.

    They’re not obsessed with the MSM and when they do tune in, they can separate the chaff from the wheat.
    
    My kids, nieces and their friends, spouses etc, have grown up with their little digital gadgets and have been emailing/texting/tweeting/ downloading/ for yonks.
    
    They are accomplished in recognising misinformation put out by sploggers, trolls, and astroturfers. In fact, they expect that junk news is being shoved towards them… they’re not gullible.
    That’s why the MSM are getting desperate…. they’ve lost their audience, young & old.

  I think that one of the problems is the definition of ‘news’.
  If it’s the latest activity of whomsoever one is interested in, that’s fine.
  If it’s the who/what/how/when/why of the activity and the subject is an individual/occasion of passing importance, that’s passing news. Something that dominated the news because of it’s sensational value was often called gossip, or a ‘7-day wonder’.
  But if it’s the activity of say, a publicly elected MP, or a major building company who somehow makes a mess of a job, then traditionally the newspapers had experienced journalists who would investigate and come to a conclusion as to the how and why of the situation, and THAT was the news.
  And that’s what we’re missing now. We have a surfeit of passing news, which is like a diet of lettuce leaves –

  The problem with the chief is there are to many darkies in the team. Tribalism is a problem for many. In their upbringing there was a hierarchy of knowing your status in life. Once they get outside this hierarchy, they cannot cope. They are overpaid for the job they do. They are not used to the fame attached to being a rugby player of the chiefs status. The question of the US Sino strategy now Obongo’s ‘Pivot to Asia’ lies (like everything else he did) in wretched tatters, is a very critical part of Trump’s next 8 years. China is now locked into a strategic alliance with Russia which is something unique in world history. Unlike past alliances which could be broken or withdrawn from, what Putin and Xi did is to turn their countries into symbionts: Russia basically depends on China for many goods and services while China depends on Russia for energy, defense, aerospace and high-tech (for those interested in this topic I would recommend the excellent White Paper Larchmonter445 wrote for the Saker blog on this topic: The Russia-China Double Helix). As a result, Russia and China today are like a type of “Siamese twins” which have separate heads (political independence and their own governments) but which share a number of organs vital for both heads. This means that even if Russia/China wanted to “dump China/Russia” in exchange for a rapprochement with the USA she could not do that. To my knowledge nothing similar has ever happened before. Never have two (ex-) Empires decided to remain separate but fully integrated into each other. No grand charter, no big alliance, no solemn treaty was ever signed to make this happens, only huge number of (comparatively) small(er) contracts and agreements. And yet they have quietly achieved something absolutely unique in history. What this means for the USA is that they cannot count on their favorite divide et impera strategy to try to rule the planet because that strategy simply cannot work any longer: even if the Russian and Chinese leaders got themselves into a heated dispute they could not undo what has now been done. The integrationist momentum between China and Russia could probably only be stopped by a war, and that is simply not happening. Right now Trump is making a lot of provocative gestures towards China, possibly in the hope that if the USA normalizes relations with Russia China would find itself isolated. But isolating China is just as impossible as isolating Russia, and provoking China is simply a non-starter. For the first time since WWII the next American President will have to come to terms that in the Russia-China-USA triangle it is the USA which is the weakest and most vulnerable party.

He’s met with Donald Tusk, and Jean-Claude Juncker to talk about a free trade agreement with the EU, which btw is our 3rd largest trading partner.

Juncker was optimistic a New Zealand-EU deal could be finalised in three years – half the time it usually took and less than a third of the 10 years it took for Canada. He said it usually took between 5-10 years.

However, the first I heard of English’s first overseas trip as PM of NZ, was a news item on my feed by Sputnik (one of Russia’s English language disinformation sites), implying that our PM’s trip to Brussels was specifically to visit NATO headquarters. It seems to Sputnik (and Russia) that Bill English going anywhere near NATO is a big deal.

Sure, the item itself is very low key, but looking at the Sputnik website, it’s easy to see that Bill English is only mentioned a few times since he became PM. Here are the other items in reverse date order:

The former child star of horror film The Omen faces being jailed on Friday the 13th after he admitted punching two cyclists in a road rage attack. 😎
Harvey Spencer Stephens was only five-years-old when he shot to fame playing the creepy boy Damian Thorn, the Antichrist, in the 1976 cult classic.
Now aged 46, Stephens has found himself in court over an incident in Toys Hill, Kent, last August.
The dad-of-one jumped out of his flashy Audi RS6 and punched two cyclists, smashing one of the victim’s helmets.
Stephens admitted two counts of ABH and one of criminal damage, The Sun reports.
And in a spooky twist of fate, Stephens is to be sentenced today, Friday the 13th.
Generations have were frightened by his performance in The Omen, including a famous scene where the boy continuously rides a tricycle in a circle.
Stephens acting career never took off and he is believed to have been working most recently in property.
In an interview in 2007 he said: “It was good, but I was only five, a lot of it went over my head.
“It wasn’t a big deal. It was good while it lasted.”

        I’ve never advocated they disarm, I’ve simply advocated they discontinue acting like ruthless street thugs.
        
        As discussed many times here, their nuclear weapons makes them invulnerable to any and all threats from their neighbours, the rest is just annoying pin pricks and no amount of emotive bullshit about home made rockets and how they occasionally kill someone on the rare occasions they hit anything at all, changes that cold, hard, geopolitical reality.
        
        And the question is: how much restraint should a powerful, wealthy, well-connected state exercise, when it has all the cards and the people who are at the pointy ends of her decision on that balance, have absolutely no power whatsoever?
        
        And the current reality is: whatever the answer to that is, what Israel has done since her inception, is not sufficient to meet that test, by a very large margin indeed.
        
        And if ya can’t see that, you don’t live on this planet.

  I read recently a report saying Trump’s team had requested Soros’ dossier from the war from the Russians – he worked with the Nazis helping them round up his fellow Jews – which indicates Trump will be investigating him, which is good, because his Purple Revolution is already poisonous and Trump’s not even been sworn in.
  
  Lots of evidence Obama’s been operating behind the scenes on these issues and that’s why he’s staying in Washington, to front Soros’ revolution and do what he does best – destroy things by fair means or foul – in this case, all of Trump’s various initiatives.

I would guess that the British press is also heavily invested in the Trump dossier because one of their own put the thing together, and they’ll be out to prove he was more right than wrong.

And there is something very significant about the fact that the intelligence chiefs elevated it to the level of presidential eyes. The interesting thing about Russia’s intervention in other elections is that it’s very tailored to the particular country. It’s not ideological. In other words, in the olden days, the Soviet Union supported Communist parties all over Europe and all over the world. And now it looks like the pattern is that Russia intervenes in order to create disruption and chaos in Western democracies, thereby to weaken them, thereby to weaken the European Union and NATO. And, if I’m honest, it hadn’t really occurred to me that the U.S. electoral system was weak enough for the Russians to be able to influence it, but it looks like almost exactly the same pattern is now in play in the United States that we’ve seen play out in other European countries.

This treatment was eerily like the marking of Jews in Nazi Germany with yellow badges, or of the anti-Semitic Nuremberg laws of 1935, which contained many of the racial theories prevalent in Nazi ideology. Those pieces of legislation excluded German Jews from Reich citizenship and prohibited them from marrying or having relations with persons of “German or related blood.”

The “Pact Of Umar” – also known as the Treaty of Umar or the Laws of Umar – is an apocryphal treaty between the Muslims and the Christians of Syria, Mesopotamia or Jerusalem. It later gained a canonical status in Islamic jurisprudence. This document (which was reportedly signed by the second caliph, Umar I [634-44], after he occupied Jerusalem) is the source of the restrictive regulations embedded in Sharia and Islamic law that are put on non-Muslims. The spirit of these laws still exists; they continue to be followed in all Islamic and Arab countries and in all current and future state constitutions of the Palestinian Authority. The Islamic State, the Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas and any terror organization that delegitimizes non-Muslims’ right to exist independently in the region also follow the Pact of Umar. Some of those laws are the most racist in human history and have led to genocide, annihilation and suffering for Eastern Christians and Arameans – even today, as evidenced by recent events in Lebanon, Syria and Iraq, and by the treatment of the Jewish indigenous population inhabiting the Fertile Crescent and Israel.

That last sentence is revealing now isn’t it?

Does NZ have any really Right wing party?

Perhaps ACT is Right wing on economic issues, but ACT doesn’t seem to have much in common with the European Far Right parties.

The Maori Party is race based, but I don’t think it wants to deport non-Maori, or put us in camps.

        Maggy – some of the Golden Horde stayed in Russia. As in the Russian Federation’s Tatarstan Republic. I believe there are even Tatars in Finland.
        
        So your husband’s Siberian. Quite a few Siberians in NZ. Some in Christchurch came with the fishing fleet that used to be based at Lyttelton. Mostly ethnic Russian Siberians, if that’s the right term. Haven’t met any Buryats or Tatars or Russian Eskimos or the like yet.
        
        I used a typical weather greeting in speaking to a man from Siberia. He said: “It’s always spring or autumn in New Zealand.”

    I read in no less than Encyclopedia Brittanica that it is believed approximately 50% of young males living on farms engage in this practice.
    (I prefer to call it inter-species intercourse.)

      Did you hear about the sheep-bestiality court case at Timaru?
      
      A Mrs X gave evidence at the court hearing that she saw a neighbour to the north of her farm drop his trousers when he was standing behind a sheep and made movements consistent with having intercourse.
      
      Mr Y, the neighbour on the south side, then gave evidence that he had seen a similar occurrence on another occasion. The sheep and the man’s state of undress left him in no doubt that the man was having sex with a sheep.
      
      A friend of mine who was at the hearing said there was a kerfuffle at the court when the defendant became angry when, after these neighbours gave evidence, his defence lawyer declined the opportunity to cross-examine them.
      
      The judge called for silence when the defendant became angry and distressed. The defence lawyer was heard saying to him: “Settle down! My specialty is jury selection. Just be patient.”
      
      Then a third prosecution witness was called.
      
      Mr Z, a fencer, said he was building a new boundary fence line against the man’s property when he saw the defendant, with his trousers around his ankles having sex with a sheep jammed against a gate.
      
      Pressed by the prosecution for details, the fencer said that after the act, the sheep turned and the defendant put his penis in the sheep’s mouth, and the sheep seemed to give the man oral sex.
      
      At this stage of the case, there was uproar. A jury member jumped to his feet and yelled:”Yes, some of the good ones will do that!”
      
      There is to be a retrial.

  I developed custom equipment for a whale researcher a few years back. Very interesting.
  
  He worked for the US Navy at one stage. He said if anybody was ever dumb enough to give a weapon to a dolphin they deserve to have it attached to the bottom of the own boat, which probably would happen.
  Bloody good at telling their trainers if divers are in water, that’s about it though.
