I’ve been reading online this morning about the heightened security around the world at New Years Eve events in light of the string of terror attacks and how, gradually, formerly peaceful homogenous countries where Police Officers previously patrolled with a smile and maybe a baton, have now become Police States with their Officers resembling Robocop.

The line from the Political Elite is that this state of affairs will now be a permanent fixture as we “fight terror” (“terror” of course being the vague generic term that reminds us commoners that terror has many sources….)

It got me thinking that this is the most persuasive argument against the multikult experiment – Risk versus reward. We are risking destroying our culture, our heritage, our blood and our civilisation. We are risking condemning our children to living in a country that resembles Bosnia or Beirut, and for what? Ethnic restaurants and some warm fuzzy feels. It is insanity.

It might be different if the ethnics were bringing us the keys to intergalactic space travel or nuclear fission, but they’re not. They bring us nothing. No one in their sane senses could argue that the potential reward justifies the risk. Even if they argue that you are a paranoid alarmist, even if the risk of the multicultural project ending in disaster is say 5%, and all of the evidence suggests that it is much, much, higher than that, on a simple risk versus reward basis it isn’t worth it. I don’t see any decent counter to this line of argument.

      No Nukuleka, he is very cogently arguing the point. Albeit with a staggering lack of self-awareness. I know milky’s standard response is to godwin – but he quite correctly pointed out that the particular brand of socialism on offer around the world right now (national socialism) was the cause of one of the greatest causes of misery in the 20th century.
      
      Milky is saying this without a drop of irony – he really does believe that if we return to the national socialism offered by the Greens and Labour that the trains will run on time (remember Cullen’s trainset). So many of the core characteristics are the same:
      – rampant anti-semitism (the Left are orgasmically excited about UNSC 2334 because it puts the “dirty jews” in their place finally)
      – overt support for the evils of Islam
      – belief in a master-race (socialists know best, don’t you know) – there’s no need to demonstrate through logic socialists are right – they just “ARE” and you are an untermenschen (‘deplorable’ in modern parlance) if you dare question anything they say
      – leadership behaviour characterised by shrillness and personal attacks on reasonable dissenters (like calling a person a nazi for expressing an opinion)
      – widespread violence and civil unrest to create a need for their special form of order (look at the never-Trumpers or the BLM terrorists)
      – demonising Russia to deflect from internal failures
      
      No, no – Milky really does want a return of 1930s style national socialism just modernised with the new decals of globalism and cultural marxism.

    Do the people of a sovereign nation have the right to choose their culture? Do foreign governments have the right to dictate who shall immigrate into our country?

        First, I’m not sure what you mean by “core beliefs”, Odakyu-sen. The role of women in society, the divine right of monarchs, serfs/nobility distinctions, the religion and how it is implemented?
        If you took time slices every 250 years (e.g., 2000, 1750, 1500, 1250, 1000), you see a hell of a lot of change in most cultures, I’m guessing. I don’t see a lot of long-term planning where the evolution of cultures is concerned.

      Yes we do have a right to choose our culture but at the moment we are being treated by politicians as mushrooms.

        France obvious stopped doing that effectively (“effectively” is the key point). What is the point of guarding the museums and salons of high culture, while simultaneously allowing the influx of colonial-minded peoples? (Ostensibly for cheap labor.)
        
        It’s like watching those NZ Airforce recruitment ads on TV encouraging youth to join up to “protect what we hold dear” while a different branch of government allows in large numbers of people who also wish to “protect what they hold dear.”
        
        The main problem is that no one ever actually identifies exactly what “we hold dear” is.

  I have no problem with immigration of good people in sensible quantities. Especially, those who want in not just on our economy and our infrastructure and public welfare, but our culture as well.
  
  It is OTT multiculturalism as a form of enabling and creation of WMD’s against our own cultural heritage, that is the problem and the madness. If we had the self-belief we should have, and not allowed it to be white-anted by decades of subversion of our education and media, the ratbag trouble-makers would not even want to come.
  
  On a related line of reasoning, if you “stop the boats” arriving, they stop leaving. Europe is not stopping them, so their volume is cranking up, isn’t it? Madness, as you say. And the cultural environment inside the borders is of similar importance.

        Many cultures try hard to integrate and don’t abuse their hosts.
        Others see the west as a bunch of suckers they can bleed “white” and try to impose their primitive sexist and worse beliefs on.
        This is not about people wearing turbans.

      NZ has one of the highest immigration rates in the world. This has been imposed by our political masters without public consultation; unfortunately, the one party which has expressed opposition to immigration is not a credible government, IMO.
      
      Treasury is very tepid about the economic benefits of immigration to NZers; international research says immigrants are the principal beneficiaries of immigration; the average level of qualifications of immigrants is lower than the average level of native NZers’ qualifications; overseas evidence, preceding the recent Muslim immigration into Europe, suggests that diverse societies are less cohesive and trusting.
      
      You don’t have to subscribe to EAD’s particular philosophy to recognise that immigration comes with costs as well as benefits, and should be part of an overall population policy, something else which is little discussed by our leaders.
      
      As it happens, I’m married to a not so recent Asian immigrant and worked for a decade in her original country; almost all of my friends and acquaintances are immigrants, and I’m learning one of the two non-English languages they use among themselves.
      
      But I’m also very sceptical of diversity as a goal and see little evidence of significant benefit from large-scale immigration. Imputing racism to critics of immigration, whether justified or not, does not advance the case for immigration one iota.

    Now, let’s have multiculturalism, resulting in (ABC, ABC, and ABC). The three nations are now diverse at the national level, but are identical internationally.

      Europe pretends to hold values of human rights , justice and equality . In fact proclaims them widely and loudly and yet ……
      
      Spain builds huge fences to keep Africans out in order to prevent them from claiming asylum and being able to reside in Europe.
      
      Surely if you hold those values so dear you’d tear down that wall and allow all of Africa to migrate .
      
      Politicians who proclaim international or universal rights are liars ,cheats and hypocrites. Rights belong to the citizen of a sovereign nation not to the world, and those rights are endangered when gummints don’t do their basic duty by the citizens of their own country first .

      I had a awesome xmas with some friends who do security work for Companies in the Middle East.
      They were looking forward to the next 8 years as the rules which are being drawn up for the engagement of combatants is now nearly finished.
      From what they were saying Mosques and Government buildings will be treated as HQ in terrorist countries. I love Trump.

      Au Contraire, I have noted several times that Ashkenazi Jews are on average 12 points higher the IQ scale on average than us humble Caucasians.
      
      I do note also that Africans are a further 23 IQ points on average below Caucasians but it doesn’t mean I label them “sub-human”, merely that they’ve evolved in different conditions and their strengths and weaknesses reflect that.

      No stephieboy, I do not for one minute think EAD’s views should go unchallenged.
      If you read this blog carefully, you will see that I have challenged EAD’s views on race and miscegenation on occasions.
      
      I would refer you to my reply to mikenmild below.
      
      As far as I can see, EAD manages to advance his arguments time and time again, in response to the comments and attacks he receives here.
      
      I don’t have the background knowledge (or interest) to respond to most of his comments about the holocaust or business interests of Jewish folk.

      I have been focusing my assessments of this over the last few days. I think you could sum it up as follows.
      
      When it comes to the left’s virtue-signalling racket, National sometime in 2007 decided “if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em”.
      
      It worked so well as a treasury-bench-retaining tactic, they are now addicted to it.
      
      Kimbo raised a good point yesterday; National historically have seldom ever actually reversed much of anything Labour has done before them, and have even out-done them at their own game. The Bolger-Richardson government was the only National (economically) right of centre one in modern history, for the sole reason that Rogernomics preceded it.
      
      Now what we have is a National government at the very least, matching Labour in lefty virtue-signalling. We care about the environment and global warming too! We’ll splash middle class welfare around too! We’ll enact Gay Marriage for you! And your emissions trading scheme! We’ll pay for Len’s Train set! And FarGoff’s Trams!         The politicians I most admire, are Roger Douglas and David Lange, for having the courage to confront realities, offer the best program they knew of (not perfect, I know), and the people trusted them.
        
        Prior to that, we had been “a lucky country” for a long time, the good old days, such as they were, were never a result of smart politics. The 70’s were the harsh reckoning for decades of “she’ll be right”.
        
        I am cynical enough now to think that NZ might as well have just defaulted on its sovereign debt sometime in the 80’s, for all our short memories about the realities of the situation under which Rogernomics came to the fore. I don’t expect a reforming government, drawing down on the political capital of a charismatic leader, to avert the next painful time of reckoning that we are building up to. In our case the Poms shafting us by going into Europe as a “get out of Jail free” card to try and escape their endemic economic and industrial problems was also the watershed.         The American “consensus” dated from Roosevelt’s New Deal, the British from the post-war Atlee-led Labour Government, and us, from our first Labour Government that instituted a cradle-to-the-grave welfare state and command/fortress-economy in the late 1930s.
        
        We were not significant or especially stupid in adopting and seeking to defend and/or modify what was the status quo. Seem in that light, Muldoon was a natural National, not Labour Prime Minister – even if he was defending the framework bequeathed by the first Labour Government (and his political hero, R J Seddon and the Liberals of the 1890s)

The holiday road toll in NZ last I heard was 19, way up on last year.
In Thailand yesterday 25 people were killed in one accident near Chonburi, not a million miles from the resort town of Pattaya where a lot of Kiwis go for holidays.
One of the vehicles involved was a passenger van that apparently crossed a couple of lanes and smashed into a ute at an intersection, according to the article I read.
Those van drivers are often crazy. They drive like maniacs and are forever involved in accidents. A lot of them don’t get enough sleep, drive long hours & take P (yaba) to keep going. So if you’re going over there be careful.
The overall death toll on the roads is one of the worst in the world. An awful lot of these are motorcyclists
By the way the murder rate in Thailand is on a par with the US.
Never go there without insurance.

Andrei might clarify whether a poster did indeed accidently thank some or all for catching crabs (of the itching rather than biting type).

Late last evening, Cha posted this in General Debate:

With the help of Bing Translate and Google Translate I got the rough feeling Cha was saying something like: “Thank you for the down ticks, comrade.”

However, on further digging, it seemed that perhaps Cha was inadvertently trapped by “пуха”, which may mean “down” in the fluff or feather down sense, rather than “down” in the English “downwards” sense.

Also that “ клещей” may refer to “ticks” in the insect sense rather than “ticks” in the mark sense.

So could “fluff ticks” thus refer to the pests that are referred to in English as “crabs”?

That would mean Cha said in Russian:

Thank you for the crabs, comrade.

To cap it off, Maggy replied, in Russian (thank you Bing Translate), with a pleasantry along the lines of “that’s fine” or what we might say as “think nothing of it” or “it’s a pleasure”.

Not as dramatic as crabs or even bed bugs, but I presume itchy little buggers, just the same.

IMHO, this helps show that machine translation (like Google Translate and Bing Translator) will never fully match the outcome from learning another language.

2.7 Judging a Cultural Practice to Be Undesirable

In 1996, a 17-year-old girl named Fauziya Kassindja arrived at Newark International Airport and asked for asylum. She had fled her native country of Togo, a small west African nation, to escape what people there call excision.

Excision is a permanently disfiguring procedure that is sometimes called “female circumcision,” although it bears little resemblance to the Jewish ritual. More commonly, at least in Western newspapers, it is referred to as “genital mutilation.” According to the World Health Organization, the practice is widespread in 26 African nations, and two million girls each year are “excised.” In some instances, excision is part of an elaborate tribal ritual, performed in small traditional villages, and girls look forward to it because it signals their acceptance into the adult world. In other instances, the practice is carried out by families living in cities on young women who desperately resist.

Fauziya Kassindja was the youngest of five daughters in a devoutly Muslim family. Her father, who owned a successful trucking business, was opposed to excision, and he was able to defy the tradition because of his wealth. His first four daughters were married without being mutilated. But when Fauziya was 16, he suddenly died. Fauziya then came under the authority of his father, who arranged a marriage for her and prepared to have her excised. Fauziya was terrified, and her mother and oldest sister helped her to escape. Her mother, left without resources, eventually had to formally apologize and submit to the authority of the patriarch she had offended.

Meanwhile, in America, Fauziya was imprisoned for two years while the authorities decided what to do with her. She was finally granted asylum, but not before she became the center of a controversy about how foreigners should regard the cultural practices of other peoples. A series of articles in the New York Times encouraged the idea that excision is a barbaric practice that should be condemned. Other observers were reluctant to be so judgmental�live and let live, they said; after all, our practices probably seem just as strange to them.

Suppose we are inclined to say that excision is bad. Would we merely be applying the standards of our own culture? If Cultural Relativism is correct, that is all we can do, for there is no cultural-neutral moral standard to which we may appeal. Is that true?

  It’s common sense.

    I can think of plenty, Odakyu-Sen:
    Making the members of one gender do all the tedious household chores, while the other gender is free to go out whenever they please and never have to lift a finger at home.
    Murdering your daughters if they are so much as suspected of looking at a male.
    Burning your daughter-in-law to death if her family don’t provide a big enough dowry, or keep adding to it.
    (A favourite in the world’s largest democracy…even though dowries are supposed to be illegal.)
    Keeping a bottle of acid on the bedroom cabinet and threatening to throw it in your wife’s face if she is not frisky enough.

  It’s pretty hard to accept that the practice of Papua New Guinea’s Fore people, eating corpses, was morally correct in any culture. Surely it was universally wrong.
  
  The cultural practice led to the Fore people suffering from kuru, an incurable, degenerative brain disorder. The cultural tradition was that women and kids got to eat the brains, and that’s what caused kuru.

      Cultural Relativism warns us, quite rightly, about the danger of assuming that all our preferences are based on some absolute rational standard. They are not. Many (but not all) of our practices are merely peculiar to our society, and it is easy to lose sight of that fact. In reminding us of it, the theory does a service.
      
      However the theory is logically flawed in so many ways as to be rendered the antithesis of cultural evolution.

        The practice was banned and outlawed in 2006. Since then it has been a long slow process of changing ancient attitudes through education and public awareness as well as advancing womens rights .

    The Psychosexual reasons for female circumcision in repressive cultures.
    FGM is carried out as a way to control women’s sexuality. Male circumcision is not. Female circumcision is thought to ensure virginity before marriage and fidelity afterward, and to increase male sexual pleasure.
    
    It is a vile abuse of women’s sexual rights employed by regressive abusive cultures, reducing the status of women to chattels

Google Translate is okay for single proper nouns (such as law names and organizational names) but is pretty poor in other areas.

Take this example.
“Time flies like an arrow.”
As a translator, when I parse this sentence, does it mean:
a. Time flies in the same way that you would time an arrow.
b. A species of fly (known as the “time fly”) likes arrows (and “arrows” is the name of something that a fly would like).
c. Time flies in the same way that an arrow flies.

There is a humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in Syria and the “western” media ignore it.

On December 22 al-Qaeda aligned Takfiris in the Wadi Barada valley shut down the main water supply for the Syrian capital Damascus. Since then the city and some 5-6 million living in and around it have to survive on emergency water distributions by the Syrian government. That is barely enough for people to drink – no washing, no showers and no water dependent production is possible.

This shut down is part of a wider, seemingly coordinated strategy to deprive all government held areas of utility supplies. Two days ago the Islamic State shut down a major water intake for Aleppo from the Euphrates. High voltage electricity masts on lines feeding Damascus have been destroyed and repair teams, unlike before, denied access. Gas supplies to parts of Damascus are also cut…

The story isn’t what these bastards are doing, it’s what the Western media isn’t doing. Most of their failings is not in how they cover what they cover, it’s what they never cover at all. Unless you look at media other than Western, which most of you clearly don’t as interpreted from what you say on here, you will never know the extent to which they do this, all the time. And that’s the key to understanding anything, to know both sides, and they only ever one side, when they deliver anything at all.

    Reality’s always a good thing mm. For instance, if Syrians really did regard Assad the way the West has explained and keeps explaining, Syria would not be like this at all. Instead there’d be immense repression operations with tens of thousands of Syrian troops tied up and city after city rising up. After all, now that every single citizen in that country has lived with war day in day out for coming up ten years, they wouldn’t be scared, they’d know how to fight, they wouldn’t sit there and just cower while Assad’s murderous thugs raped and tortured and slaughtered their way through city after city after city.
    
    That’s what we should be hearing mm if the West’s account of the cassius belli for Syria were true, wouldn’t we. That’s only logical isn’t it. Those are the facts aren’t they. We would be hearing that, wouldn’t we.
    
    But we don’t do we. All we ever hear about is bullshit from the West, mostly from the bogus one-man band Syrian Observatory for Human Rights based in England and the White Helmets, founded by an ex_British military officer.
    
    If you’re credulous enough to fall for lightweight bullshit like that mm, that doesn’t surprise me at all, but a lot of people aren’t like you, in that.

“The Secretary of the Refugee Council of New Zealand is a Mr Kaileshan Thanabalasingham.
A Kaileshan Thanabalasingham was deported from Canada in 2006 as the reputed leader of a Tamil gang that killed several youths in the 1990s.”

(This from DPF’s post a couple of days ago).

It’s been reported that Mr. Thanabalasingham is unable to attend the funeral for his family members as he continues to struggle with recovery from his burns. Whilst this is tragic for him we have to wonder what enquiries are going on about the circumstances of his entry into New Zealand.
The cause of the fire is said to be ‘not suspicious’, but we haven’t been told what the cause is.
And the spokesperson for the family is none other than Ms. Deborah Manning, terrorist-hugging lawyer who also represented Ahmed Zaoui.
Will we ever find out the truth?

    I don’t think all these cases of suicide will be due to lack of love. I know a number of very loved folks who committed suicide.
    
    For young folks there’s often extreme types of peer pressures/stresses involved.

Putin greets everybody but Obama:

Russian President Vladimir Putin has snubbed outgoing US President Barack Obama on New Year by expressing his good wishes to President-elect Donald Trump instead.

In his annual New Year’s greeting to his foreign counterparts, Putin also congratulated former US Presidents George W. Bush and George H.W. Bush without mentioning Obama, CNN reported Saturday.

Putin also expressed hope that Washington and Moscow could take “real steps” to improve ties after the 45th American president’s inauguration on January 20.

The Russian head of state said he was optimistic that the two countries, “acting in a constructive and pragmatic manner, will be able to take real steps to restore the mechanisms of bilateral cooperation in various areas and take their interaction in the international arena to a whole new level.”

Directly addressing Trump in his message released by the Kremlin on Friday, Putin also addressed the significance of strong ties between Russia and the US.

“Major global and regional challenges that our countries have confronted in recent years clearly confirm that Russia-US relations are an important factor in ensuring stability and security in the modern world,” Putin said.

To make the situation more embarrassing for Obama, Putin also congratulated British Prime Minister Theresa May and former French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

Even former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi received a New Year greeting from Putin…

The question these Islamophobic journalists need to reflect upon is; are these so called ”radical” views that they criticize endorsed only by these few individuals being invited around the globe, or does the common Muslims believe in them.

        There were no accusations but I do have reasonable grounds to believe that the US backed initiatives against ISIS whether in Iraq or Syria are regarded by many like you as illusory or with this misalign kind of stuff ,
        
        I have no idea what that means stephie and seriously don’t want to know, but what I suggest is if you want to make a completely different point to the one you are responding to, make a completely separate post and don’t tie it to the original, in any way, don’t even mention it.

EAD’s comment today seems to have stirred the fires of nationalism and ethnic superiority.

Quite ironic that he’s talking about increased New Year’s security in Europe, I presume, and maybe the US from the comfort of New Zealand, and associating us here the Europeans and Americans when he whips up outrage over ethnics who open restaurants.

He talks about “formerly peaceful homogenous countries”, without realising that homogenous countries are in European terms a very recent phenomenon. Just over a hundred years ago, Europeans were part of multi-ethnic empires. It is only since WWII especially, the horrendous amount of death and destruction caused by the German Nazis especially, that countries that were still multi-ethnic after WWI became homogenous, such as Poland.

He says “We are risking destroying our culture, our heritage, our blood and our civilisation.” What is this “we” he talks about, especially from New Zealand, which never has been homogenous, except in pre-European times.

I mean, all the uptickers (37 at the time of this writing) all stupid? Or easily taken in by a stirring speech? Or just don’t give a damn that he trying to whip up support for fuck knows what, in New Zealand, of all places?

You know, Western Civilisation was built on faith in Christ the Lord. Not this.

Another part of it, like it or not, deny it if you wish but doesn’t change the fact, is that Western civilisation over many, many centuries consistently did a whole hell of a lot to separate and discourage the white caucasians in it from breeding with other races. This was happening at the same time “western civilisation was being built” so presumably you don’t object to including it as one of the causal factors in its construction, given its ubiquity and persistence for many centuries across the entire Western world.

You’ll note also of course the Old Testament is full of God’s commands to keep the Israelites pure. So its quite arguable racial integrity was and is one of God’s objectives.

        Thing a lot of people miss over religion nasska is it’s not mankind’s interpretation of it. The more doctrinaire one’s chosen path (denomination) is, the more it will appear to outsiders to be, but actually true religion is never about that, for true religion is entirely and always exclusively personal.
        
        This (the personal) is what we’re judged on and therefore it matters not what others say about us either here or elsewhere, it’s what we did, thought and said during our time here that’s relevant and that’s the only thing that’s relevant.

      100% agree Reid – I’m half way through the wonderful Tell the Truth and Shame the devil by Gérard Menuhin who is Jewish and he is definitely in the great category.
      
      Ashkenazi Jews almost without exception have been the reasons so many host communities have become hostile towards Jews whereas Sephardic Jews have tended to be loyal and patriotic citizens of wherever they’ve settled.
