  They have given him a make over and by the looks of thing picked things that John Key did with ease but the Union will never understand that we don’t need Unions like we did in the 1900’s and if people work and are loyal they will earn good money through their own negotiations. Little thinks Maori will support Labour but I think the might be in for a shock come September.

    And I’d put the primary responsibility on the marxist intellectuals back in the 1960’s, for starting this. Maori attitudes could be said to be fairly represented by Sir Apirana Ngata (his “The Treaty of Waitangi: An Explanation” should be essential reading for all elected representatives) and the Maori Battalion, who meant what they said when they sang, “For God, for King and for Country”.
    
    I always feel deep sadness over what has been lost thanks to those treasonous white marxist intellectuals and their long march through the institutions and their identity, “divide and destroy” politics.

      Interesting I had similar thought last night when channel hoping on TV
      
      I landed on Te Reo channel and they had a slide show of I assumed prominent Maori figures from 20s and 30s. They were all in suits and looked distinguished and respectable
      
      Fast forward 80 years and the prominent figures are radicals and bludgers

        I bet the Te Reo channel isn’t bothering to pass on the wisdom of those distinguished former leaders of Maori. Try your luck actually getting Ngata’s “Treaty of Waitangi” book through the library system. It should be in print and on bookshop shelves, and getting read by High School students.

The English language version is only 16 pages long (easy to print out), but the Māori language version also sets out all the places (and dates) where the Treaty was signed, and by whom – commencing on page 29.

  And guess who made THIS contribution to clarity on the issue in 2002:
  
  “Seven weeks ago, on 21 March, TV 3 broadcast a documentary called “2050 – What If … ” Three times in the first five minutes, tino rangatiratanga was defined as absolute sovereignty. The show’s premise was that by 2050, Maori sovereignty had been “restored”. So if you crossed Maori land in your car, for example, you might have to pay a toll. Crossing from one rohe to another, you might be required to show a passport. Te Reo could become compulsory in schools, and necessary to hold some jobs. That part of the programme was all good entertainment.
  
  What was not so entertaining were the views expressed in the gaps between the “What If … ” scenarios. Donna Hall said that separation – Pakeha from Maori, Maori from Pakeha – would be “okay”. Jane Kelsey assured viewers that “there was no question that we will have tino rangatiratanga. The question is how tauiwi will respond to that assertion.” This was shortly after Dr Ranginui Walker had again repeated that tino rangatiratanga was full and absolute chieftainship.
  
  The Treaty, in other words, is not what its words say it is.
  
  There is little public debate on the meaning of the Treaty. But there should be. Uncontested assertions are shaping government policy, judicial thinking and political debate. In the manner of the marae, our common interests are best served by robust debate, in an environment of mutual respect. Today I will argue that the Treaty created one sovereignty and so one common citizenship….
  
  “…Maori “blood soil and language” nationalist arguments promise not a single remedy for Maori advancement, or for their country’s advancement. These arguments are 200 years old. New Zealand is in fact a post nationalist response to racial coexistence. New Zealand will not continue “Onward” as our national motto used to say, by going back to the duality of the 1840s to the 1860s.
  
  It’s against this background that we need a deeper debate about the principles of the Treaty. Questioned in the House on the principles of the Treaty, Labour evaded answers and then ultimately fell back on the 1989 statement by the Palmer Government. This is no basis for the Attorney-General’s preference for judicial activism to interpret the Treaty. Our judiciary is competent and intelligent, but they breathe the same thin air as the politicians on Treaty issues. They cannot make mature consideration without deeper, more open debate about the Treaty.
  
  Unless more New Zealanders become aware of the content of modern Treaty discourse, and where that discourse will inevitably take us, we are going to wake up one day, and find that New Zealand has been reconfigured more or less as that shown in the TV3 documentary “2050 – What if … “.
  
  Then New Zealanders, Pakeha , Pacific and Asian, and Maori too – for most Maori want to be ‘just New Zealanders’ – will ask “How could this have happened?” And the judges will keep explaining in their judgments, and the Ministers will remain silent, the media will bite on the sensational aspects of it, and no ‘ordinary’ New Zealander will be any wiser…”

    Who are Maori?. By 2050 ( two generations) there will not be a person who is 100% Maori. In fact I doubt ther will be anyone more than 50% Maori.
    Maori/European could in fact becoming a minority.
    
    When I was a school I learnt French for three years.
    I have never used it (other than three trips to France), it has not got me a job or helped me get ahead in NZ. In fact I would have loved, looking back, to have used that time to learn more Maths and Science as these areas were ones that my lack of skill sets stopped me getting ahead in adult life.

    Interesting, isn’t it? Bill English objected that, long before Don Brash supplanted him as National Party leader, he (English) was doing an “Orewa”.
    
    But then, as English’s wife and kids are part-Polynesian, and he is a pragmatist rather than a die-in-the-ditch EQ-deficient nit-picker like Brash, it was harder for the media to run the “racist” angle.

      I think the media back in 2002 was confident of National’s electoral collapse in the face of the Clark juggernaut and anyway, Clark wasn’t full-bore selling out to the Iwi mafia like Key made a artform of post-2008. By 2005, English was temporarily history and Brash was looking like a real threat. The battleground that was picked from Orewa onwards, really resulted in the media talking heads steering the new craven National, into new lows of sell-out to prove themselves “pure” again. Even Clark is snorting in disbelief over some of this stuff. If National were to make her their leader, they could get away with a bit more firmness in the face of the media.

        Yes, she was his constantly-referenced token in an effort to “get out jail free” whenever Brash came up against charges of racism. However, that didn’t cut it with Maori and the MSM playing the progressive stack – there was a reason NZ First’s anti-immigration policy saw them sweep all the Maori seats at the 1996 election (a fact that has now been purged from the records, Stalin-like, by Winston Peters), and why Phil Twyford has thrown 100 years of Labour’s heritage under the bus to attack Chinese home buyers. Chinese = white people, but with more money, a better work ethic and even less patience for race-baiting malcontents.
        
        Plus, to be fair to those in whom he aroused ire, you also forget that Brash was dancing with glee when he was “clodded” and accused by the media of racism – in much the same way Trump now draws strength from MSM criticism and protestors trashing Berkeley.
        
        The real reason for Brash’s ~~downfall~~ pulling defeat from the jaws of victory in 2005? His mismanagement of the Exclusive Brethren. Should never have met with them – some groups have ‘electoral poison’ written all over them. If he had not, then he would have had “plausible deniability”. Politics 101

      Exactly! We haven’t even begun, yet, to plumb the depths of the multi-culti, mass-immigration subterfuge of which the PC establishment (media, academia, bureaucracy) are capable.
      
      I think the NZ Initiative are right about immigration to date, we have benefited from a lot of hard-working, law-abiding, assimilating immigrants, particularly from Asia. But that would not hold true to the same extent if we had the kind of immigration that results in mass assaults of young women on public celebration days.
      
      But going by the craven utterances of our own government in recent times, it looks horribly possible that they subscribe to this program for the sake of virtue-signalling to the approval of local media and the global PC establishment. I would like to know whether the News Presenters on TV are paid to read the News or give their own opinions on the story. During the last week a News presenter might as well have taken a whole page advertisement out in the Herald supporting the Green Party with the amount of help they give the Party with their opinion just about every night.

  I have discovered the identity of this poster who goes by the name of Holysheet. The clue is in the way he refers to his wife. Mrs Holy. This suggests that his surname comes first, and that his “christian” name is therefore “sheet”. We all know that Muslim men force their women to wear the burqa, a “sheet”. And the Arabic translation of ‘holy” is “muqaddas”. I followed the Whaleoil school of investigative journalism and googled the variations of Muqaddas and Burqa. There is no trace of that name to be found. Taking a leaf from the EAD playbook, I delved into some right wing conspiracy theory sites and discovered that the absence of a name from google usually means there is a deep cover CIA black-op involved. Why was this Islamic terrorist allowed into our country? Next thing he will be rushing into Te Tii marae shouting Allahu Akbar, armed to the teeth with Israeli manufactured weaponry. Andrew Little will insist on a blanket ban on Muslim immigration (which will include sheets) and will romp home in the election.

Honour the treaty which does not include anything about partnership.
Does not include special privilege for some.

  Glad someone else is onto this. I put it on the General Debate yesterday, challenging DPF to devote a thread to it.
  
  It is all part of the sickening tragedy of the centre-right sell-out to the left’s PC lies – that is what they are – that there is evidence on issue after issue that the very same centre-right politicians doing the selling out, KNEW the truth and at one time were prepared to state it. John Key on housing in 2007 is another sickening example.
  
  The extent of this betrayal of principle, can be seen in the participation of the said “centre right” sell-outs, in the repudiation and smearing of decent, principled people who continue to simply stick to the truth against all odds. The CAGW scam is another example: the chant of “deniers” is added to from the so-called “centre right” as well as their leftist political enemies. Same thing with the chant of “racist” and the chant of “planet-rapist” (re those who would support the evils of urban sprawl, car use, properly-done mining, etc).
  
  The presence of one team or other of stuffed shirts on the parliamentary benches is completely different to the actual long political war, in which the Left cemented their victory in 2008.

Have you noticed that Angry has been increasing his public profile and is front page news almost everyday.

Bill English’s laid back low key approach has helped this and is giving Angry air time. JK would have been taking a more proactive approach and front footing anything of interest.

Angry is the new media go to man.

I suspect His party might just get a good poll result next time.

    The cringing white PC lefties are racist, quite possibly many ordinary Maori don’t subscribe to the identity-politics nonsense. I believe more than 50% of Maori (already part-Maori) of every generation, marry or otherwise produce children, with non-Maori. This should be taken as evidence of happy co-existence and assimilation.
    
    Of course some proportion of every new generation of 1/8 Maori, 1/16 Maori, 1/32 Maori (etc) thus being produced, will join the ranks of the troughers and stirrers.

    Don’t speak too soon! Not that long ago, no-one would have had a wildest dream that Bannon would be where he is today. I know of no-one who even pointed to any connections between Trump and Bannon, or Trump and DeVos, or Trump and Mattis, or Trump and Pruitt, or any of the rest of his team now. Who his team would be, was always a mystery. Apparently he was a buffoon who had no policy and no credible agenda.
    
    Not that many years ago, I would have regarded Trump as a New York Liberal, Clinton Donor, crony capitalist, arm-candy-bride lothario, TV celebrity subscriber to beautiful-people orthodoxies. Can anyone point me to the chronicler of his connections that are on display now?

  Electorates where Maori voted Labour all along, also had overwhelming majorities of Labour voters among Pakeha and Pacific Islanders.

Meanwhile at the 9th Circuit Appeal Court, Donald Trump did not get the quick victory he was hoping for. The issue here is how much executive power was granted by Congress and Senate on immigration matters. The Attorney General will also need to explain to the 9th Circuit why the first instance Judge was a ‘so called Judge’ – that should be interesting.

      If you went walking on your own without en PLB and without telling people where you went then you deserve to pick up the tab. PLBs are cheaper than a smartphone.
      
      If you go into the bush in NZ – even if you intend to only go 500 metres from the road – take a small backpack with an emergency blanket, a couple of muesli bars and some water. An emergency blanket costs $5 or so and weighs close to nothing.

        ccm, I agree with how you feel but do not agree with charging for rescue in the bush or a sea although I feel resentful about stupid ill prepared people putting others a risk and costing the taxpayer and volunteers’ time.
        
        If a cost was incurred it mean people would delay calling for help.
        
        The other thing is if as I think you are suggesting that only negligent people would be charged who would decide?

      KS, that is a good question. I think public resources should be spent on anyone that is lost or injured in the bush, mountains or at sea.
      
      However, people have every right to complain about stupid of inconsiderate people who go tramping or go to sea with inadequate knowledge or experience.
      
      The first time I climbed Mt Egmont about 30 years ago I climbed with someone who had considerable experience. We started a little before 5 am and reached the summit at 8 am. We could see the SI in one direction and Mt Ruapehu in the other. About 30 minutes into the decent the weather changed quickly. Visibility was about 15 meters, the wind picked up and the temperature dropped.
      
      About another 30 minutes we come across a woman on her own. We find out that her two climbing partners left her behind. My mate and I dashed down the scree and caught up with them – a man and a woman. I told them what I thought and that someone had died on the mountains a few weeks earlier. There is no way I would leave someone who was struggling behind.
      
      I do not think I lack of humanity.

        Chuck Bird , you seem to lack something . People often make innocent but unwise decsions like not leaving their intentions behind . Or accidently stray off a marked track and get lost ( quite easy to do in dense NZ bush and forests ).
        
        Sure do complain and I’m sure rescue teams would say so in appropriate situations .

        I have followed your comments and suggestions for people in the bush. How much experience have you have in NZ bush and mountains.?
        
        I climb to the summit of the Hakarimata roughly once a week. It is a distance of just under 2 km and a climb of 350 m. The track has a lot of stair, some with railings. I take nothing as do most who climb it. Some take water. I don’t.
        
        Are you saying I should follow your advise?

  Urban Maori need a voice, that’s true. But why do they need that particular voice? Where are the true leaders for urban Maori? At one time I thought John Tamihere would be one, but like Jackson he took a job on talkback radio to fill out his time and landed up losing his credibility. The great diaspora from the country to the towns has meant a large number of Maori don’t have the voice of those who have remained geographically and culturally closer to their iwi. New Zealand must be almost unique in the fact that its own National Day is so dispised and undervalued. I’m not suggesting that we should all rejoice in the treaty etc – far from it – but the reality is that because it is centered around contentious claims around this document, our National Day has become almost universally either reviled or ignored. To the casual visitor, NZ appears to be a stable and pretty homogeneous go-ahead society. Does the farce of our National Day belie this and illustrate a deeply hidden malaise, or does it just mean that we are confident that in the end ‘she’ll be right’? Discuss.

The overwhelmingly positive interpretation of the Treaty and NZ history that prevailed in the era of Sir Apirana Ngata and the Maori Battalion, has been a victim of the progressive left’s sabotage of history and the replacement of it with constructed narratives.

The lawyer for those resisting deportation has confirmed the NZ education visas are a rort for those seeking NZ citizenship.

This was earlier asserted by an NZ educationist (this is from the Hooerald):

Ask an experienced teacher what needs to change on the front line of international education and the response is blunt.

“We need to blow the whole thing apart and start being honest about what’s happening,” says the teacher, who the Herald has agreed not to name. “Because it’s not about education at all.”

“I’d like to see New Zealand recognise that it’s a scam, because that’s at the heart of this. What’s really behind it is they’re coming for visas, not quality education.”

    But the whole student visa programme is a rort: these students’ lawyer and the educationist I quote are telling the truth.
    
    Indian students are coming to NZ not for education, which they can do better in India, but for backdoor citizenship entry.
    
    NZ’s official immigration site is encouraging this.
    
    Educationists, many of them overseas owned mini-colleges, are in effect selling NZ citizenship and the Government is going along with this.
    
    Look around. Foreign “students” are filling unskilled, low skilled and semi-skilled jobs while many NZ kids are unemployed.

Well not everyone is celebrating/fighting the Treaty day, half of Auckland was out on the Waitemata Harbour. Got our limit by 10.30am and came back to Westhaven at 1pm. That’s when the shit started – boats queued up for retrieval. One smartarse decided to jump ahead of me whilst I was backing my trailer down the ramp. He asked me to move – I told him to have sex and travel, and reversed into the water. He then threw a tantrum, so I locked my vehicle and went off to the toilet. Came back and he was still yelling. Told him I could wait longer than him and he should fuck off. He finally did – applause from the other boaties. Arsewipes will not be tolerated at Westhaven or anywhere when I am around.

What [Rose] fails to mention is that the new NOAA results have been validated by independent data from satellites, buoys and Argo floats and that many other independent groups, including Berkeley Earth and the UK’s Met Office Hadley Centre, get effectively the same results.

… Rose’s claim that NOAA’s results “can never be verified” is patently incorrect, as we just published a paper independently verifying the most important part of NOAA’s results.

…Rose’s article presents a deeply misleading graph where he shows an arbitrary offset between NOAA’s data and the Hadley land/ocean dataset. This is an artifact of the use of different baselines…This comparison ends up being spurious, because each record uses a different baseline period to define their temperature anomaly.

Peter Thorne, climate scientist for the Irish Climate Analysis and Research Units, writes:

I have been involved in and am a co-author upon all relevant underlying papers to Karl et al., 2015.

The ‘whistle blower’ is John Bates who was not involved in any aspect of the work… John Bates never participated in any of the numerous technical meetings on the land or marine data I have participated in at NOAA NCEI either in person or remotely. This shows in his reputed (I am taking the journalist at their word that these are directly attributable quotes) mis-representation of the processes that actually occured. In some cases these mis-representations are publically verifiable.
