      What I find fascinating is the sheer number of downticks our comments are eliciting. I’m beginning to believe some of the downticks are from people with multiple accounts, with the intent of making dissenters feel like they are outnumbered.
      
      I could be wrong, of course. Unless the down-tickers show who they are by posting comments, I’m beginning to believe this is a real possibility. It’s not just the easily lead who are offended by our slagging off the Don.

        There’s a big contingent of Trumpkins on Kiwiblog nowadays. And they’re quite sensitive to criticism – which is ironic given how they love to disparage leftie “snowflakes”.
        
        Personally I wonder how many are refugees from WhaleOil, given how quickly & freely Whale likes to ban commenters. DPF and Kiwiblog have always been quite centrist, and the Whale seems their more natural alt-right home.

        I disparage leftist hypocrisy and I expect better from the right. I am calling them out when I see the same BS.

        I did an unofficial ‘survey’ of Kiwibloggers’ support for Trump a couple of weeks ago by measuring upticks/downticks to a simple question. The result came out at 83% support for him among readers here. Not totally scientific, but seems about right, judging by the upticks whenever he is mentioned.
        
        To me this is staggering. I dread to think what would happen if a prick like Trump were ever to surface in NZ politics.

        I’m all for freedom of speech, just not freedom of speech for bots and trolls with multiple identities.

        You seem to be a little confused as to who you are responding to. I was the one that used the phrase, “slagging him off” in my comment first. I also put a link to a Washington Post article whereby John McCain is telling Donald Trump to put up his evidence on Barack Omaba wiretapping him or apologise. It was a constructive argument in response to VirtualMark’s quote of Trump about “delivering the goods”.
        
        I would like to see Trump deliver the goods on Obama’s wiretapping. However, he seems to have gone very quiet on this.

        What is wrong with the Hannity clip Lucia ? It was an interview with an investigative journalist who has a good track record and had some interesting findings to explain ( I think we are talking about the same YouTube video –Sarah Carter from CircaNews).
        You don’t like Hannity , obviously. That’s fine but this video was about the journalist’s findings.
        You have made your views on President Trump loud and clear ( you referred to him as an idiot the other day). You have your view and many others, myself included, hold an opposite view. It should not be surprising that you may find yourself in the minority on a blog site such as KB.

        Interesting findings from a journalist do not equate to Trump being right about being wiretapped, which is what Cameron Slater was alleging.
        
        As I said in my comment on WhaleOil, the real proof will be verification from the agencies potentially involved, and that we should wait to see how this pans out: U.S. senators ask government for proof Obama wiretapped Trump

      I like Donald, I like his policies and I love it when he slags the mainstream media. They are fake news. Their line for months has been “Trump campaign colluded with Russia to steal the election from Hillary Clinton”. Which is bull dust and they know it is bull dust but they push the line anyway because they are openly left-wing liberal partisans and shills for the Democratic party.
      
      Regarding did Obama have Trump wiretapped during the election, it is entirely possible. What has been reported is that there were requests for surveillance of the Trump campaign for possible ties with Russia. Did that come from Obama directly? Don’t know yet but quite possible. Did they Institute surveillance of Trump as well as his associates? Again don’t know yet but quite possible.
      
      What we do know is that Obama and his cronies were quite prepared to do surveillance of people they didn’t like such as James Rosen the reporter for Fox News. We know the Obama administration put in requests to do surveillance of Trump operatives. So it is certainly possible that they did surveillance of Trump himself.
      
      Time will tell. Those who have been wrong about Trump for 2 years may still be wrong. And I am happy to continue to down tick those people.

    If you look at Trump’s Twitter account it’s been relatively bland for the last 4-5 days. His last 5am Twitter-burst was on the 8th of March with:
    
    122 vicious prisoners, released by the Obama Administration from Gitmo, have returned to the battlefield. Just another terrible decision!
    
    (Note that 109 of them were actually released under George W. Bush, and the other 13 under Obama … VicParking: constructive argument, real proof)

      I’m with stephie on this, but probably not the way he’d like.
      
      I really don’t care what she did at uni. We all did stupid stuff that we’d rather not be judged by now. Hoover could be many things (including being a complete slut, being a trouble causer, druggie, … whatever). It all does not matter. To be clear, I am not alleging any of these behaviors.
      
      What really matters is what she brings to the table NOW – in 2017. Unfortunately that still seems to be a complete vacuum.

Well it seems Andrew little can except the Politics of Ratana and crawl on his belly to get their endorsement for Labour but its against the rules for the Maori King to give his support and endorsement to the Maori Party. Then you have to laugh at the hypocrisy of Winston Peters even though it ended badly for him but he thought it was fair for him to use Maori to establish NZ First with using the Maori seats so it is alright for Winston and the left to arse lick to get what they wanted but not for any other Party.

  In the meantime, it seems as though our media is going to be fixated on Bill English’s Catholicism this election, and that they will paint him as some sort of religious fanatic. Will they do likewise about Damian O’Connor and Peter Dunne, who along with Gerry Brownlee and outgoing Labour MP Clayton Cosgrove are old boys of St Bede’s College in Christchurch? What about Su’a William Sio, who has been a bishop in the Mormon Church?
  
  Whether people have a religious faith is their own business. Our Parliament still allows MP’s to vote according to their conscience on certain issues, and that right should never be taken away. Whilst I don’t share the views of those who profess to be atheists, I respect their choice 100%.
  
  There are plenty of signs that the 2017 General Election is going to be the dirtiest election yet.

Seriously? This subject has been extensively debated endlessly on every blog site and on every mainstream media outlet there is, both in response to the Government’s recent announcement and on many occasions previously.

What that debate has established is that some people think the age should go up soon, some people think the age should go up later, some people think NZS should be means tested, some people think KiwiSaver should be compulsory, some people think contributions to the Cullen Fund should be restarted, some people think contributions to the Cullen Fund should be reversed, some people think NZS is fine as it is.

What more does the DomPost think there is to be gained from further debate?

  Judging by the stories that say what National proposes is too much, and the opposing stories that say what National proposes is not enough, my feeling is that National must have got it about right.
  
  Steven Joyce explained that with the proposed changes and the increasing life expectancy, that people will still spend slightly longer on average drawing national super. That says to me that the changes are fair and balanced, and also by the time the changes come in, there may be some accommodation for the minority that can’t work those 2 extra years to get to age 67.

  Garner seems to have had a change of heart since 2014 when he wrote this:

Is a policy that takes effect in 2040 even a policy at all? Remember, there are seven elections till the changes would kick in”?

So Wellington Regional Council is seeking advice from law firms etc as it prepares to call tenders for running Wellington region bus services. This includes seeking advice on employment matters and has got right up the noses of the unions.
Bearing in mind the major fiasco that occurred when Auckland health authorities put medical lab services out to tender it is not at all surprising that the Regional Council wants to ensure that it has itself properly covered on behalf of its residents. I can well imagine the issues which the Council needs to address but it would be unhelpful IMO to bandy these around.
On the other hand one would doubt that union leadership culture or quality would help secure desirable outcomes for members. The union movement has shown itself quite incapable with its influence in selection of Labour Party leaders.

    A doctor friend who’s dealt with many HIV/AIDS cases explained it to me this way.
    
    A vagina has evolved to have a vigorous thrusting member inserted in it. The internal membranes are pretty strong. It is capable of withstanding expanding to allow the delivery of a baby.
    
    The anus has not evolved for that purpose. It is tight and has a lot of blood vessels close to the surface (one of the reasons you can “inject” chemicals into the bloodstream by shoving them up your anus). The membranes are relatively thin. Anal sex (especially without sufficient lubrication) is likely to rupture blood vessels meaning any nasties can get directly into the bloodstream. ie. a pretty much perfect path for HIV during unprotected sex.
    
    Couple that with the fact that gays tend to be highly promiscuous (even when in stable relationships) and you have a bloody nightmare on your hands.
    
    This is not a moral judgment, just some basic biology.

Who ultimately pays this university feminist who seems pissed off about male appreciation of beautiful women? 1. Taxpayers. 2. Generations of NZ’ers being saddled with student debt. 3. Asians buying NZ citizenship through student visas.

I doubt there is a pay gap between female and male lecturers at Victoria University. However, why are they are running a subject called “criminology”? Is this a law paper, or some sort of sociology con?

A pro-tip for anyone buying stuff on AliExpress.

I’ve placed around 300 orders over the past two years. 98% of transactions complete successfully, and the vast majority of traders are good to deal with.

Don’t place feedback as part of confirming arrival of goods. Confirm receipt withing a week of the good arriving, and then do the feedback bit after you’re happy with the product quality.

If there’s an issue, do get onto raising a dispute quickly. You only have 14 days from confirming receipt, and I have noticed that sellers of dud goods will not respond to questions and/or delay things so the the two week period passes. Once that happens getting a refund is made to look difficult, and the seller will tell you to contact AliExpress.

If a seller does this, do two things:
1. Demand that they process a refund
2. Tell them that they have “violated ALiExpress trading rules” and that you’ll be raising a “Report”

I’ve only needed to to this twice. It works a treat!

Adrian Orr, CEO of the Super Fund, interviewed on Radio NZ’s Labour Programme this morning by Kathryn Ryan, was interesting on how much bigger the fund would have been if the Government hadn’t suspended pumping cash into it.

Orr said that, with the effect of compounding, it would have been about a third bigger – another $22 billion.

The suspension of State capital contributions means that the amount the fund can contribute to the baby-boomer super blow-out is down to 10 to 12 per cent compared with original targets of 15 per cent.

The fund also pays large amounts of tax to the State.

    The Government suspended annual capital contributions in July 2009. As at June 30 last year, capital contributions not made totalled $14.7 billion. That’s money NZ didn’t save for the future population-ageing effect on national superannuation.
    
    I don’t think overseas markets (where most of the fund’s capital is invested) are lower now than they were in 1969.
    
    Long term, the trend should still be up, and if not,
    the inevitable fall of the Kiwi dollar at the same time as overseas markets would be at least a part-hedge.

        Rangitoto, we’ve been told the Government has been reducing State debt as a proportion of GDP.
        
        It’s private debt (largely our Aussie-owned banks borrowing to fund NZ lending) that has been increasing.
        
        Was the State borrowing to invest in the Super Fund, or just borrowing to meet over-all expenditure? Then, when it came to trimming expenditure, axeing Super Fund payments while continuing spending on a thousand other things?
        
        Don’t want to nitpick, but perhaps spending millions on a short-term seat on the Security Council is an example of where money might better have been better directed into the Super Fund.

        Failed when the world coal price collapsed. It had some grandiose plans, such as turning the vast lignite fields in Southland into diesel, too.
        
        Still, the world coal price has now bounced back quite a bit. Australia is getting around 80 US dollars a ton at present, compard with about 50 a year ago.

Peskov said it is the job of Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak to meet with officials on both sides to talk about “bilateral relations.”

Peskov also defended those meetings, saying they were not an attempt to interfere in the 2016 election.
“But there were no meetings about elections — electoral process … So if you look at it with intention to demonize Russia, you would probably say that, yes, he was trying to interfere in Hillary’s activities. But it would be nonsense, because this is not true,” Peskov said.

One Valencia Skipper has just been found guilty of the death of her daughter due to driving under the influence of P. Her 2 year old daughter was unrestrained at the time, Skipper had no license and did not own the vehicle. The offence took place in January 2016 and Skipper is pregnant.

She’s been released on bail pending sentence. What’s the bet? A much deserved jail sentence or a wet bus ticket.

  This is common behaviour with young Maori mums.
  I recall seeing a neighbour of mine setting off down the line with her baby in a seat with no belt.
  She reckoned it was OK because she would only be in that seat for another 9 months.
  Wish I’d reported her.

Some people may think it’s a minor issue but he is no better than the other idiot Hone who is running around making threats and calling people Nazi’s. Its time our politicians started acting like mature responsible adults.

Rape culture protest outside Parliament

Hundreds of Wellington students gathered outside Parliament this afternoon to take a stand against rape culture in their schools.

One of the videos is interesting. An enthusiastic young protester is holding up a sign that says: “Get your filthy paws off my silky draws [sic]”.

I hope there’s still enough time for this young person to learn basic literacy before entering the workforce.

    Good on them for speaking up. This could be a turning point in teen attitudes towards sex, making it loud and clear that crappy and disrespectful and abusive behaviour and sexual predation and assault is not the norm and is not acceptable.
    
    This is the same Pete George, of course, who used to talk a lot about Kiwiblog’s rape culture. I recall that many male Kiwibloggers took offence at his suggestion that, by not standing up to rape culturalists, we’re just as bad as them.
