An Auckland paper tells us ‘Rachel Smalley: Why it’s sad Labour’s Jacinda Ardern is attractive’

The paper has finally out Woman’s Weeklied the Woman’s Weekly.

I did not read the article as I thought I would rather ruin my eyesight and kill that many brain cells by self-abuse and a good bottle of scotch.

  After the media fully invested itself in dressing Ardern up as a pretty lil’ thing, now they have the temerity to moan about her being perceived as a pretty lil’ thing.

    Her immediate reaction was… “Jesus look at those teeth”.

  I agree Jacinda Ardern’s physical appearance shouldn’t be an issue, and those who obsess over her alleged attractiveness and/or physical defects – including here – demean themselves.
  
  But Ardern courts it with continual vacuous women’s mags stories in excess proportion to any other politician or need to raise her profile. Then she compounds her poor judgement by saying that in doing so she is trying to reach and engage people over the issue of child poverty who would not otherwise be involved. FFS, insult our intelligence like that, and, based on what she says, she gives her critics good reason to dismiss her as an airhead and/or a celebrity-hungry phoney, irrespective of her gender! I’ve been pondering why Andrew Little himself has suddenly welcomed and encouraged the prospect of Jacinda Ardern becoming his Deputy. The penny has finally dropped:

• Little’s leadership is under widespread pressure for change. He has become concerned, with justification, about a messy, internal revolt against his leadership in the period leading up to the Election in 8 months’ time. The Unions may have the Labour voting power to prevent Little’s ejection, but such open divisions within the Party would spell the end of its chances in 2017.

• Little knows for certain that he will not get a second chance as Leader of the Opposition to lead the Party into an Election. It’s now or never.

• What’s the best way to shore up his position as Labour Leader against otherwise-impossible odds? Engineer a change of Deputy Leader to someone who can pose no immediate threat to his leadership – someone who can lighten-up and ‘refresh’ the Labour front bench materially, but who in 2017 is far too young, sassy and inexperienced to be taken seriously as the Prime Minister of NZ.

• With the 2017 Election won by Labour under the leadership of the new dynamic duo, any threat of an early leadership-spill disappears. And when misgivings re-appear within the Labour Government, the Unions will hold the power to thwart attempts to replace the Prime Minister.

What could possibly go wrong?

  Quite a lot. The next preferred PM poll will have Jacinta ahead of Angry, but she’s about 9 years away from being up to the job of leader (if ever).
  The problem was not the deputy leader but the leader. Labour are doomed as long as this idiot is in charge, irrespective of who is seen as the long term replacement.

    I agree entirely, Captain. The point I was making is that Little is championing Arhern solely because her appointment gets him safely through to the Election – he and the CTU will simply brazen out ‘Preferred PM’ rogue polls meantime that show Jacinda ahead of him.
    
    After the Election, Little will have nothing further that he can do. He’ll never be PM, and the Unions will have to look to a replacement Leader of the Labour Party. Whether Arhern will be a candidate acceptable to the CTU remains to be seen – they don’t look like the most natural of bedfellows!

It is either you or Annette King,so make up your mind”,. Angry Andy Little, thinking of his $1000 a day ,even though he was on 7% popularity with the voters panicked and fired Granny King.

Rinkeby is the suburb in Sweden , 90 % immigrant , which had the riot , coincidentally the day after Trumps’ Sweden comments.

The MSM then went into over drive to refute the Don’s view on Sweden.

Here’s a Yank reporter , who visited Rinkeby , to disprove Trumps assertions , and yet he needed a police escort to get him safely out of there. Even the Swedish cops are afraid there.

Sweden , and the media have a huge credibility problem.

  But we need a bit of perspective. I have no doubt that Sweden is having problems with serious crime done by immigrants, or that the Swedish authorities are uncomfortable with the optics of that.
  
  But I’d also say that the USA has similar suburbs which are as unsafe, or even worse. We can talk about “What happened in Sweden last night. Sweden!” But serious crime in Sweden is still lower than in most major American cities. The Swedish murder rate is less than 10% of the US murder rate.
  
  So yes, Sweden less safe than it was. But still way safer than the USA.

        Here is the BBC – Sweden with the world’s second highest rate of sexual assault in the world.
        
        But it seems the way it is reported does distort the figures, and a further complication is that this report is from 2012.
        
        So we are back on anecdotal stuff, and that is likely to reflect who you talk to in Sweden – someone from a middle class or upper class suburb, or someone who has to live in a poor suburb or the inner city.

        Is that different from the position in NZ? Haven’t NZ people convicted for raping women who are, for example, too drunk or too drugged, to give consent? Perhaps a lawyer may help us here.

And how would Devoid reduce the proportion of Maori in prisons? Presumably, Devoid’s solution is an apartheid-style, separate race justice system. And that would work for inter-race crime?

Devoid succeeded a Marxist activist as race relations commissioner, but she seems no less radical and is more politically active. Devoid has to be National’s worst ever political appointment.

Her job was to be to look into complaints of racial discrimination, but Devoid is trying to be a Nelson Mandela in a liberal Western country. She wants the refugee quota raised. Now she wants the justice system reformed. Next, she’ll want the electoral system changed.

The worst posts I have made on Kiwiblog were those defending Devoid’s appointment when Lefties were fuming about it. I was wrong, I retract, and I apologise.

Wow Labour are on a roll, you have Greg O’Connor that will bring Law and Order back and if he beats Peter Dunn they are a shoe in to win the next Election, then you have Willie Jackson who will bring all the effected Maori voter and the missing million in the North back and then you have theDream Team of Andrew Little and Jacinda Ardern as Leader and Deputy showing just how ready Labour is to be the Government. Jacinda has already stated how much she is up with the play with “Gathering scalps in Parliament not my measure of success as a Politician” I have helped develop a child poverty which if implemented would make a difference than anything the present Government has done but will never feel like a achievement until it is real. So Andrew Little thinks Mt Albert shows that people want change and the dream team is ready but Barry Soper says different with “the best about Jacinda and her win in Mt Albert with a miserable 30% of the vote turnout and with no Opposition – which is misplaced- a drovers dog wearing a red rosette could have pulled it off- and that is no reflection on Ardern”.

Willie Jackson’s mate John Tamahere was on the TV news last night dismissing maori initiative in Ngaruawahia to build housing for their tribe on maori land. Apparently it isn’t going to make any difference.

Surely as maori already own the land, the cost of sections is removed or at least cheaper, then building affordable housing for their people can only be a good thing.

  I have been saying something like this for years. The country has a housing crisis and Maori are disproportionately suffering under it. Yet “Iwi” are the largest owners of undeveloped and developable land in the country!
  
  What smart Iwi leaders should do, is get some Southern US developers out here, who have experience of building whole new mini-cities from scratch, like “The Woodlands” near Houston.     China, where the State owns all land, gets away without this, but I expect some sort of “right to occupy” stands in for freehold assets. Is it just me, or does anyone else have a real issue with the apparent anointing of Jacinda Ardern as the next Labour Deputy (and aspiring) Leader?

I seem to recall somewhere that the correct title of the big room that all the politicians sit in and shout at each other is called the ‘House of Representatives”.

Given that Jacinda moved in to the political world fresh out of university, and has never existed in the real world without some sort of political support network, I would question her ability to relate to people in the real world who actually have to work for a living. She appears to me to be another Labour appointee chosen on the basis of her political orientation, rather than on any demonstration of competence in any field whatsoever.

“Winning” an uncontested by election in a safe seat hardly grants one a mandate to say that you speak for a segment of the populace either.

It’s yet another Labour appointment to the House of Representatives that seems to be very un-representational of anything! But when the prime reason for your appointment is based on ideology rather than experience, and aspiration rather than achievement, you get what you get.

This was the same mindset that gave the UK Jeremy Corbyn, and look how well THAT worked.

So a women received $10K after her house burnt down and is now in court for failing to stop and crashing her car into a house.

Devil is in the detail. Her house was partly damaged three years ago in Hornby, but mysteriously completely burned down in an unsolved arson two days later. I bet this wasn’t on the give a little page

She has now done $70K of damage to someone else’s house and claims she can’t pay it back as her and her partner are both unemployed. They are white and look early 30s so can’t see any reason why they can’t work except for the $750 per week they get collectively in benefits

I am annoyed that the so called media keep on attacking Bill English for his comments on drug testing of employees.
I suppose this is now the norm – whatever English says will be severely contradicted by the so called media whatever.
I come from a recent Orchardist career in the Bay of Plenty where there is a severe unemployment of young Maori men. They are unemployable.
So the ex PSA (like Kiwifruit disease) Union leader yells on a number of the same interview in different parts of the so called media that of 30,000 tested only 185 or so are rejected.
What about the many many tens of thousands here who would not consider trying for a job as they know they would not pass the test, so they do not try.
I have seen a lunch time delivery of cannabis by a whanau member outside a packhouse and the damage that one person can do in the afternoon shift in addition by deliberately stuffing up a fast production line. They need to be tested twice a day which is why vacancies are everywhere and difficult to fill by local New Zealanders.
So back to Winz – easy.

  I would suggest that testing should be reserved for jobs where the danger of impairment is real .Driving a forklift stoned is dangerous standing on a pack house line sticking fruit in boxes it is probably immaterial to performance or safety.

  What an employee does in their own time is no business of the employer , Testing using a blood sample does not tell you if they person is impaired as blood testing can show up even casual use weeks before .
  Drug testing for residues that have no measurable impairment effect should not be used to screen your employees.

      Out here in the real world a significant number of productive people smoke pot and have no issues effecting their employment.
      When I was employed in a management role most problems I had with staff using drugs use was those who had issues with alcohol.
      Not turning up or tuning up incapable of working because of hangovers along with days off from both court appearances and injury’s caused by their drinking .

        As an employer I totally agree Griff our staff only get tested when employment or an LTI (lost time injury) the old sniff test is the easiest as the smell of weed tends to linger long after, and as you have stated alcohol problems are far more serious especially in an industrial business basically if someone was on the pot all weekend I would rarely if ever know compare that to someone recovering from a 2 day binge its not a pretty sight

        You kind of use yourself as an example in further comments, but, consider what you said about yourself yesterday. About being an arsehole. Maybe the drugs help to keep you an arsehole.
        
        Not everyone wants to work with people who take drugs, and therefore, the drug test weeds those people out. Whether or not they’d be good at the job is irrelevant.

  I’d agree, where I work we wanted to employ 20 new staff at one of our locations a year or so back, advertised and got around 120 applications. All were informed that a drug test was required – about 25 turned up for the tests, and over half failed anyway. Did manage to get 20 eventually, after about 6 months of recruitment and bringing in a couple from out of area.
  
  There is some element of control and potential hazard; if an employee is drugged to the eyeballs and has an accident, we get prosecuted and fined just because we failed to detect that they were impaired in some way. Alcohol by contrast is just not at the same level of a problem, not at work anyway.

Yesterday I only looked at KB very late, and there was a posting dedicated to where a Stuff columnist had surprisingly reasonably, for the MSM, written a defence of “The Muslim Ban” against charges of “racism”, for reasons obvious to all of us non-leftards. The policy remained, of course, “ irrational, idiotic, hypocritical and wrong”.

But why did no-one on KB point out something else that should be obvious to non-leftards, which is, it is NOT even a “Muslim” ban! It is a ban relating to 7 countries in a state of civil war, in which normal means of checking records about citizens have lapsed. That is the criteria on which countries made the list, which was compiled months ago by the Obama administration. Eg Saudi Arabia did not make the list, because it is not in a state of civil war.

Some of the actually justifiable fuss about consequences of the ban, is that it is catching Christians, atheists, Ahmadis, and others who are genuine refugees from Muslim persecution. None of the countries involved have a 100% Muslim population.

    In January, Sen. Patrick J. Leahy (D-Vt.) asked Sessions for answers to written questions. “Several of the President-elect’s nominees or senior advisers have Russian ties. Have you been in contact with anyone connected to any part of the Russian government about the 2016 election, either before or after election day?” Leahy wrote. Sessions responded with one word: “No.”
    
    At his Jan. 10 Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing, Sessions was asked by Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) what he would do if he learned of any evidence that anyone affiliated with the Trump campaign communicated with the Russian government in the course of the 2016 campaign.
    
    “I’m not aware of any of those activities,” he responded. He added: “I have been called a surrogate at a time or two in that campaign and I did not have communications with the Russians.”
    
    The Washington Post contacted all 26 members of the 2016 Senate Armed Services Committee to see whether any lawmakers besides Sessions met with Kislyak in 2016. Of the 20 lawmakers who responded, every senator, including Chairman John McCain (R-Ariz.), said they did not meet with the Russian ambassador last year. The other lawmakers on the panel did not respond as of Wednesday evening.
    
    “Members of the committee have not been beating a path to Kislyak’s door,” a senior Senate Armed Services Committee staffer said, citing tensions in relations with Moscow. Besides Sessions, the staffer added, “There haven’t been a ton of members who are looking to meet with Kislyak for their committee duties.”
    
    I repeat … Sessions is in big trouble.
    
    There may be no crime in talking to a Russian – although politically it’s a third rail.
    
    There is a crime in not providing honest answers to questions from the Senate when you are under oath.

This is interesting. Supreme Court rules Government liable for compensation for a land deal before the Treaty of Waitangi.

How does that work?

Still it’s not the first time. Chatham Islands Moriori descendants seem to be in line for a Treaty settlement because they were held as slaves by Taranaki Maori after the tribe invaded the Chathams before the 1840 Treaty of Waitangi. The Maori committed genocide and kept Moriori survivors as slaves for many years after the Treaty.

      It’s a crucial role in NZ because of who we are as a country both in history and up to the present. It may be a minor role in other country’s but in ours because of our history and makeup it is critical. Key is also the one who has put massive pressure on that makeup through his strategy to deal with the GFC by making Akld property owners millionaires but not so much the rest of the country by importing hundreds and hundreds of thousands of what apparently are mostly low quality Asians with access to cheap money.
      
      So he not only did that, he also appoints a clear and present bimbo airhead to this most critical role.
      
      So is he evil or is he stupid? There is no third alternative.
      
      I don’t think he’s stupid.

A new measure of the European Parliament in Brussels: if the president considers a member’s ideas are racist or xenophobic he can halt the television broadcast of that speech and also purge the video from parliamentary archives to make it so that the speech never happened.
