    While I am in no way a fan of Corbyns to say the least the latest drama where his car has run over a BBCs cameraman’s foot is going to dominate his headlines for a while, you almost have to feel sorry for him their paparazzi are a particularly vile bunch of lowlifes that will go to any lengths to get their shot and then cry foul when shit goes wrong although im sure a bit of koha will help sooth the savage wounds inflicted

    Probably should have sacked him earlier but Trump has so many appointments to fill that he left the FBI director in place. People forget that Jim Comey was put in an impossible position by Hillary Clinton through the use of a private server to handle classified information and his boss the attorney general meeting with Bill Clinton to discuss the investigation.
    
    Also it is rank hypocrisy for the Democrats to be up in arms about Comey when they have been calling for his resignation for months. It is only bad when Trump does it??

    The appropriate time to sack Comey would have been when the Inspector-General finishes his probe into Comey. The deputy AG claimed in his letter that Comey should be fired for his behaviour, but Comey claims he has reasons for it. Why not wait until the IG reports on this?
    
    If one of your employees, Jane, complains, say, that Bill has sexually harassed her would you fire Bill without at least checking out his version of events? That is, effectively, what Trump is doing.

    Another side to the dairy ‘hold up’ coin. Looks like dairies will be forced out of business. Alternatively the choice is between selling alcohol or tobacco.
    IMO the test should be does the small dairy/ grocer have an appropriate of groceries, milk, etc available for sale to locals, regardless of tobacco turnover. This would be a modern day equivalent of the ‘hotel’ requirement – if you wanted to sell liquor you had to make beds and meals available to travelers – this helped ensure there was a network of accommodation providers in the days before modern roads or air travel.
    A few inaccuracies in the article. Foodstuffs owns the Four Square franchise, not the individual businesses. Also the Medical Officer of Health cannot over-rule a licensing decision – presumably he appealed it to a higher tribunal.
    Coming to think of it – Foodstuffs should be taking premises security seriously – even unfranchised business served by its Gilmours subsidiary.

      Picking winners has always been argued against especially by National after farmers had subsidies removed.

        I would hope that govt decision on this subsidy is guided by economic benefit rather than chances for MPs to hang out with the cool kids. But I might be disappointed. At minimum I would hope that the people doing the economic analysis are at minimum neutral if not actively hostile towards film industry subsidy (not typical wellington beltway types with friends at Weta).

  Saw my first black burka clad woman in our local pools. Really pissed me off to be honest, as it appeared to be contrary to appropriate clothing standards posted everywhere. I won’t call it the weasel word “burkini” as it bears absolutely no similarity to a bikini.

Stars And Stripes

S&S has recently returned from a road trip to the Horowhenua/Kapiti region where I decided to stop in at Otaki and get cultural in the future bilingual capital of NZ.
Well unfortunately not much culture was found with only a “Hey Bro” mentioned in passing at the gas station and a Māori women giving me a “Kia Ora” in the café and promptly selling me a stale filled roll.
Yes well Kia bloody Ora to you too.
Anyway decided to pop in to Coastlands Mall at Paraparaumu for a spot of shopping later in the day and was looking at a jacket in a shop window when an old guy approached me and said “All this bloody chink stuff they have now, this all used to be made around here you know”.
Initially I thought he was a bit of a crank but after another couple of short bigoted remarks from him I decided this guy was good value.
Then completely without prompting(ok maybe a little bit) I got the cultural experience I missed in Otaki.
The old guy delivered one of the most faultless uninterrupted racial diatribes which S&S has ever had the honour of being witness too.
I am sure this guy must have been in Toastmasters at some stage because the passion with which he spoke was truly inspiring and obviously the work of a polished professional.
After a good 3-4 minutes the rant finally subsided and the ball was back in my court.
Well even with my extensive repertoire I was not going to be able to match that phenomenal effort so I took the easy way out and asked what any decent human being would ask “Are you on Kiwiblog by chance?”.
He said he was not so I told him he should be as he had a very valuable skill set and really it was a waste not to impart that amount of knowledge with a wider audience.
Anyway I never got the old guys name but I can report that a true NZ legend resides near Coastlands Mall and if you are in the area and extremely fortunate as I was he will approach you to discuss some concerns surrounding immigration he has.

      I suspect I know the man you met (as you can tell), and his daughter would be both horrified and unsurprised.
      
      Hes a fairly well known local identity, used to have his own radio show, and world class curmudgeon. Also does a lot of charity work, which is how I know him.
      
      He has enjoyed quite a life, and has some amazing stories to tell. And yes, having spent some time on stage and radio, he’s a very eloquent old bugger as well 😀

  He was probably a retired public servant, having spent years reluctantly absorbing the ‘principles of te treaty’. No doubt he also would have had to sit through Maori cultural re-education lectures, led by a barely educated kaumatua. Though he obviously had an excellent command of the English language, sadly his type is slowly becoming extinct. I like to listen to a good solid diatribe, whatever views the speaker holds.

    If its who I think it is, and it appears it is, hes worked in the private sector all of his life, after military service, and at the highest levels in well known international brands.
    
    His children attended local schools, and immersed themselves, and are quite knowledgeable about, “locals” like me. He just hates seeing waste and laziness in general.

Scotland Yard has launched an investigation after a BBC cameraman’s foot was run over by one of its cars which was carrying Jeremy Corbyn to Labour’s General Election manifesto meeting.

Senior party officials met in London on Thursday to discuss and finalise Labour’s manifesto after a draft version was leaked.

But Mr Corbyn’s arrival at the venue was far more dramatic than he would have hoped as BBC cameraman Giles Wooltorton’s left foot was run over by the front left wheel of the vehicle carrying the Labour leader.

Mr Wooltorton had to be treated by paramedics and was subsequently taken away in an ambulance.

Mr Corbyn was driven to the meeting by officers from the Metropolitan Police’s royalty and specialist protection unit.

After the incident officers appeared on the scene to speak to journalists who witnessed what happened at the Institution of Engineering and Technology in central London.

A Met Police spokesman has now confirmed that the matter has been referred to the directorate of professional standards, which is responsible for the conduct of officers in the force.

  In the Corbyn incident, the cameraman actually had his foot run over, was treated and taken away in an ambulance; oh for the glories of the NHS and all the facilities free to all in an instant to be available here. The NHS has 1.4 million employees, and is the fifth biggest employer in the world.

  Nothing, not an ambulance or an aid worker, nothing. A helping hand to move her from harm’s way from a policeman who was standing there, the same policeman who had failed to stop her walking in front of the car in the first place, all the while shrieking ‘did anyone get that on camera?’
  
  Cue the little one to pop up when being interviewed to say ‘not doing enough’, again.

    As much as I detest Jeremy Corbyn, he had nothing do do with the incident. The matter is being investigated (perhaps by a Police force other than Metropolitan Police) and if appropriate the driver would be charged with careless driving causing injury or whatever the UN equivalent is.
    Chaster was the driver in his incident – it was not as if he was in a Ministerial car (as Jeremy was).

I wonder whether National know what percentage of their voters only vote for them because they know what would happen if National lost, as opposed to the percentage of voters who just think the administration is awesome.

I would worry about that if I was doing strategy. So hard to know. But just on this blog, over the last couple of years I have noticed more and more dissent and comments such as ‘Notional’ and ‘Labour Lite’ get an awful lot of upticks.

By the way Happychappy I didn’t know that. But I do now, and I am even more pissed.

As I’ve been highlighting the last few days, it always pays to read the Jewish Press to see how different the narrative is between the Goyim Press outlets they control vs. the press outlets intended for Jewish eyes.

Case in point:

Contrast this narrative with the truth as revealed in the Jewish press where a staggering 96.3% of Jews voted for former Rothschild banker Macron who promised to open up the French people’s border and to punish Eastern Europe countries who don’t take in more refugees:

There is unusually little reporting on Craig v Slater currently running in Auckland High Court. I suspect that Cam was strongly advised not to report the case on Whaleoil even if the content provided by others such as Pete or Spanish Bride, although Whaleoil is reporting second hand what little news is appearing in MSM. Possibly there is a secret ‘super injunction’ in place but that would seem very unlikely. It would be interesting to see what MSM reporting there is on the next stage (after Mr Henry has finished cross examining Mr Craig). Perhaps the full story will not come out until after the trial is over.
There is a preliminary judgment on Courts Dept. web site concerning Mr Cleary as ‘MacKenzie Friend’. It appears that Mr Cleary is a fairly new minted lawyer who is doing his three year ‘apprenticeship’ and therefore cannot be a law firm partner or sole practitioner nor be a ‘lead’ barrister in court proceedings. It seems Mr Craig for whatever reason (financial or otherwise) wanted his services as ‘lead’ barrister and appointing him as a MacKenzie Friend seemed to be a compromise although he effectively has a hand tied behind his back. It does seem strange that Mr Craig is not represented in the usual way and must put him at some disadvantage.
Just to re-iterate if Mr Craig had not sued (or let it go when counter-sued) or published his tract, it is extremely unlikely that Cam would have sued – as far as I can see Cam does not want this but has no option but to defend and counter-attack. It seems one or the other is delusional, we will find out in due course. (I have not sat in on the case nor know anything about it not in the public domain).

  It’s not a very good strategy and doesn’t seem to be working at all – but hey it’s all they’ve got right now. At least he’s encouraged them to be smarter when they pimp the poor – now they always make sure the poor they’re pimping is ‘anonymous’ so that it isn’t easy to find out that the “poor, helpless, homeless person who can’t find a home” has a criminal record, has 12 tenancy tribunal decisions against them and trashed the last two HNZ homes they were in.

  @peterwn From your comment it would appear that Mr. Cleary has not been ‘admitted to the Bar’ yet and is thus not permitted to act as a Barrister. Just another reminder of the closed shop that is the law profession; lawyers control entry, control education, control exams, control qualification, and control participation in professional practice. A study done in the UK some time ago rated the legal profession as the most protected of all service industries. (Remember the fuss when they fought to protect their monopoly on property conveyencing).

    ‘Admission to the bar’ allows someone to practice law, but there are restrictions on the practitioner for the first three years, in effect the practitioner has to serve an ‘apprenticeship’. I think anyone ‘admitted to the bar’ used to be able to act as a barrister straight off but the ‘three year’ requirement was put in place there following concerns with ‘car boot lawyers’ in South Auckland.
    In recent times many of the restrictive practices have been broken down, but the public expects legal services to be provided competently and professionally. I would argue the path to becoming a fully qualified anesthetist (or surgeon etc) is far longer and far more stringent than a lawyer (and the drop-out rate for wannabe medical specialists is significant). The anesthetist has a 15 or so year path (including a 6 year medical degree) before becoming fully qualified while a lawyer a 7 – 8 year path (including a 4 year law degree).

    Mr Cleary is a junior barrister at Shortland Chambers in Auckland.
    That apparent inexperience would not stop him from “leading” a case, but it appears that he will be sitting helping Mr Craig when it comes to cross examination time and when it comes to making submissions. I suspect he will learn a great deal watching Brian Henry go about his work.
    The three year period relates to Barristers and Solicitors (as opposed to Barristers sole) who wish to practice on their own account with a trust account.

      The way I read the judgment Mr Cleary was precluded from acting in the usual manner but the judge allowed the MacKenzie Friend arrangement.
      A comment by Spanish Bride (from memory) on Whaleoil seemed to indicate that Mr Cleary could not assist or discuss things with Mr Craig during the cross examination including during breaks.

        The judgement says he can sit beside CC, take notes, make suggestions as to questions and submissions etc para 5(a) 1-5 of Justice Toogoods decision.
        There is nothing Mr Cleary can do for CC while he is being cross examined, which will be were his case stands or falls.

The determination reached however is confidential and the public has no official statement of the outcome, except Craig is reported here as saying the sexual harassment case by Ms MacGregor was withdrawn.

Are Bill English’s young, new Ministers out to fuck up the election for National?

I’m thinking of, first, Vicky Wagner in effect defending the crime-fuelling cigarette duty by saying perhaps cigarette sales should be transferred to liquor outlets. Second, I’m thinking of David Bennett raising the possibility of compulsory folic-acid in all bread.

For anyone who missed yesterday’s debate on folic acid in bread, here’s a summary.

1. When women consume folic accid before a baby is conceived and in early stages of conception, they reduce the risk of having a baby with a foetal neural tube defect, such as spina bifida or anencephaly.

2. In 2006, the Government mandated that addition of folic acid to bread would be introduced in 2009, and then said this would be delayed to 2012.

3. In the interim, major bakers agreed to add folic acid to one third of their range of breads, and at a greater rate that which the Government had planned to make compulsory (200 units per 100g compared with 140 per 100g).

4. A follow-up survey (link below) indicated that the voluntary addition of folic acid to bread, had, in the words of the survey linked to below, “contributed to the increased folate status of women”.

5. Other possible sources of folic acid for women mentioned in the study included breakfast cereals.

In the thread on Kiwiblog yesterday one poster even suggested plain packaging for bread that hasn’t had folic acid added. Hell’s teeth!

Raising the possibility of compulsory folic acid in all bread risks a blowback for National in the coming election. What does Bennett think he is doing?

Robertson is claiming there are more people unemployed today than when National took office, and Lees-Galloway tweeted this yesterday (during Question Time):

Lees-Galloway and Robertson ignore of course the fact that New Zealand’s population has increased since they were turfed out in 2008; from 4.26m to an estimated 4.7m now. Jobs are at their highest number ever, and at 70.6% for the first quarter of 2017, the Labour Force Participation rate is the highest it has been since the measure was introduced in 1986.

And then there’s health. Labour is running the line that the Government has stripped $1.7b from health spending, despite the fact that the health budget has gone up every year since 2008. Their justification is that the budget increases haven’t kept up with – wait for it – population growth!

Oppositions exist to hold the government of the day to account. This kind of duplicity from Labour has little to do with accountability, and everything to do with political posturing.

That the Washington centred MSM are totally obsessed with bringing down the Trump administration by fair means or foul (fake news – latest installment from the NYT – that Comey was fired because he asked for more resources) – is largely irrelevant to the wider population (who incidentally have indicated they would still favour Trump over Clinton.) The media (Washington Post, NYT. CNN etc.) are doubling down because they still cannot accept they were biased in their election coverage and the destruction of Trump will somehow prove they were right- perhaps they will immolate in the heat of their self generated outrage.

      STS, I was a volunteer ambulance officer for a number of years and had to deal with the fallout from some of the waiting… But that wasn’t the worst, a friend of mine was a self harmer and kept getting worse each time. I only found out about it when she called me one day to come and patch her up as she had cut far deeper than she normally did and was in trouble.
      When I called the CAT team, their response was simply, oh well if you are there now, then we don’t need to turn up!!! How the hell was I supposed to know how to help someone in her state? I can patch the wounds that show, but that was it!
      So I agree that the situation is no laughing matter.

        Thanks DFU. I keep prodding on this issue, but there is nowhere near the concern that there needs to be.
        We are all affected by this in some way whether its the distress over a family member, crime committed by untreated patients or just the bills for the constant clean ups when yet another one “slips through the cracks” and the endless benefit support for people who are unable to support themselves.
        We need some good old fashioned bloody outrage over this.

Indigenous means native or belonging naturally to a place as opposed to coming later. So one could say kiwi are indigenous to New Zealand [as too would the moa have been if Maori had not killed them all ] but Maori are not indigenous because they came later.

    I wouldn’t class Maori as indigenous. By their own claims they migrated here from the mid Pacific about 700 years ago. They have a great deal in common with other scattered Polynesians. Their origins appear to stretch back into Asia. There may have been some visitation from South America to Polynesia too.

  Dad seems awfully worked up and frustrated about all this. I think he might have loved Chris and is sad Chris is in Heaven now. With God.
