Jon Stewart leaving Daily Show

Even though his politics are on the left, I love watching Jon Stewart on The Daily Show. He has a satirical genius which is somewhat compulsive.

It isn’t clear if Comedy Central will seek to continue The Daily Show with a new host, or wind the show up when Stewart retires.

As Stewart billed The Daily Show as being a fake news show, maybe his replacement should be NBC’s Brian Williams!

Jon Stewart’s Rosewater

Alexander Bisley interviews Jon Stewart:

IT’S SLIGHTLY SURREAL interviewing Jon Stewart, The Daily Show interviewer. His debut film Rosewater tells the story of Maziar Bahari (played by Gael García Bernal), imprisoned in solitary confinement for 107 days in Iran in 2009 after appearing on Stewart’s satirical news programme.

Bahari was detained for 118 days and tortured merely because he did a satirical interview on The Daily Show. The name of the fim refers to the smell of his integrator. Bahari was usually blindfolded when tortured and interrogated.

Stewart’s original idea was a film in Farsi, with an all Persian cast. “Maziar was the one who said, ‘I really don’t want to do that. I want it to be in English, and I want it to be as universal as it can possibly be, because these are issues that need to be seen as universal issues and need to be placed in as wide a context as we can place it.’

In a way a pity they couldn’t do a version in Farsi, for Iran.

Media Manipulation

Jon Stewart exposes how CNN did a live split screen interview between two hosts, designed to give an impression they are in different locations but both had the same bus appear behind them within half a second – they were 10 metres apart from each other. CNN chose to deceive the public.

A shocking expose of their values.

Much better than the actual presidential debate is this one between Bill O’Reilly and Jon Stewart.

Daily Show on Obama’s flip-flop

July 10th, 2008 at 10:57 am by David Farrar

The Daily Show hasn’t really gone tough on Obama much, but this clip above is a good piss-take of efforts to defend his u-turn on public financing of his campaign.

Also Nevil Gibson at NBR examines his growing flip-flop on Iraq.
