Dick Griffin

Richard Griffin is one of those great guys who is very loyal to his friends. I worked with him a bit in the Beehive and you won’t find a more funny person. One of life’s great people.

So my comments here are not critical of Dick, who is loyal to one of his best mates – Winston.

They are more about the media needing to be careful of how they use and describe Dick. On the issue of Winston he is not an impartial commentator. He is one of Winston’s closest mates and even appeared in a campaign opening for him a couple of elections ago. He is an advocate for Winston, not a neutral commentator.

I think it is laudable he stands up for his mate. But media, including Radio NZ, should put his comments in the proper context.

Cactus Kate on hot male journalists

September 5th, 2008 at 4:00 pm by David Farrar

I’m sure all the media will be reading Cactus Kate’s comments on what she calls the Soper Syndrome – hot aging male journalists.

Kate proclaims the following as hot:

  • “Baron” Barry Soper
  • “Gorgeous” Sean Plunkett
  • “Pitt-Clooney” Stephen Parker
  • “Chess Champion” Vernon Small
  • Richard Long
  • Richard Griffin

The only one she marks down is Duncan Garner who gets “not hot yet”.

I think Kate is protesting too loudly here. Those of us who knew Kate before she was a blogger recall a small period of time when she had a small crush on Mr Garner. And when I say small crush, I mean raging stalker like obsession. Luckily Duncan got married, and Kate got distracted!
