And the prospect of a coalition between Internet, MANA, Greens, New Zealand First, ABC Labour, Rainbow Labour and Cunliffe Labour didn’t help.

I think the use of ‘tarnbabe67’ suggests there was no attempt at deception. And what she said is basically correct. The ABCs should not be in Parliament. Goff, King, Mallard, Cosgrove, Dyson, Shearer etc should never have been selected. If the party members and unions could override the caucus and make Cunliffe leader, they could certainly have got rid of the dead wood as well by just not selecting them in electorates and not putting them on the list. Why do one and not the other?

Tony Alexander’s view on house prices

In BNZ Chief Economist Tony Alexander’s weekly overview, Auckland house prices are set to move upwards nicely. Here are his 19 reasons why:

1. Auckland did not enter the 2008 recession then late-2008 into 2009 global financial crisis with an over-supply of property. Shortages of personnel constrained house construction from 2004 through 2008.
2. The shortage has become worse in the past four years and last year annual consent numbers were at a four decade low.
3. The government is explicitly aiming to grow Auckland’s population as a means of achieving “agglomeration” benefits for economic growth which accrue from high interaction amongst economic players.
9. A big fall in apprentice numbers in the past five years coupled with the loss of skilled people to Australia and older tradespeople leaving the sector rather than get licensed means labour-related construction costs will rise and labour will not be available to build houses even were more land available.
13. The migration cycle appears to be on the cusp of turning and if the housing market has performed so well with net outflows over 3,000 in the past year the implications of positive gains are clear.
14. The nature of net inward migration is changing toward greater numbers of people coming from Asia and with Asia’s middle class booming in size potential inflows of wealthier people are large.
17. The government has announced its efforts to improve housing affordability (lower prices) and they are minor and unlikely to have a noticeable impact if any for many years.
18. Any credibility people may have assigned to those who have been predicting big price declines simply because prices have risen a long way and now fallen sharply in some other countries has gone out the window. Few people will now listen to their price decline views.
19. Members of the Opposition believe monetary fairies can make the exchange rate settle permanently lower by forcing interest rate cuts and printing money while letting inflation therefore go up. Given the non-zero possibility that such economically ignorant policies get introduced it is worth getting inflation protection by investing more in property – not less.

Karen Price’s use of Twitter in support of her husband’s political career is possibley the most ill-judged action of any partner in the history of New Zdealand politics. It is a complete and utter fail. For a start there is a general consensus that families of Ms are “off limits” to both media and opponents. Yes, partners often have a ceremonial role, to be seen but no heard. And yes, of course families support is pivotal to success of their partners political success. I am sure many families and partners do an enormous amount of work and activity for their partner. But in private. Away from the media. Away from social media. This is understood by all. And it doesn’t matter about the gender or sexual orientation of the MPs and their partners. It applies to all MPs.

But Karen Price chose to break this convention, this model. She inserted herself directly and deliberately into politics. So now she is a target. we all know Twitter can be a hateful place, full of trolls and vilification. Enter at your own risk. And by all accounts there is enough rumours involved Cunliffe and his marriage that his wife is now a public target of.

And their children. Did they think of what this means for this children?

All this may have been OK if the secret twitter account was to attack opponents – and by that I mean other political parties. But not your own party. Not your own MPs. Such people are used to rough and tumble of politics and know how to rebut, leak, undermine and the dark arts of inra-party politics. And now Karen Price is a target of these.

And please don’t play the stress card. Yes, this has been, and still is, a very stressful time for both David Cunliffe and Karen Price. But is is precisely at such times that the true character of a person is revealed. Stress brings at the very best, or the very worst, in people. In times of extreme stress, such as war, we see both heroes and cowards emerge. True character is forged in tough times. The Cunliffes, for now we can speak of them as a political couple, had the opportunity to allow us to think better of them if they showed humility and acceptance of their role in Labour’s defeat. Instead they chose another path, the path of delusion, blame and arrogance.

They both can rightly be condemned for their actions.

Kelvin Davis in Te Tai Tokerau should not stand for Labour leader – this time.
People like Nash and Davis are apparently regarded as closet tories and should actually be run out of the party rather than emulated for their electoral success.

So Cunliffe and Robertson will slug it out – it doesn’t really matter which “wins”, as either will be a disaster, until he is dumped [first time if it is Robertson, seriously sad second time if it is Cunliffe] and yet another leader sought.

Then Kelvin Davis should stand.

She is quite right however in saying that Cosgrove, Mallard etc. are passed their used by date. What a pity hubby didn’t have the guts to say so. The Labour caucus will all be against Cunliffe(40%) when the election of leader comes round, but the Party and the Unions may “Stand by your man”

At least, that seems to be the premise the vast majority of ‘Yanks’ work on when they arrive in New Zealand (and elsewhere of course). They simply cannot conceive that their ideas might just be incorrect or inappropriate. It is also VERY VERY evident, that, having dispensed their lofty wisdom (and frequently caused an immense amount of damage locally as a result as the locals try to ‘conform’ to what must be right; the American has said so), the visitors then return home (never to be seen again BTW), firmly convinced that ‘they have saved the world’, and supremely ignorant of the damage they have left in their wake. And if challenged and the consequences pointed out, it is rarely their ‘fault’; the ‘locals’ having ‘misinterpreted’ the instructions they were given.

I have seen this happen on several occasions, and can find no logical explanation as to why it occurs.

Some would call such actions ‘unwarranted interference’, a situation not helped by our long-standing national characteristic of believing if ‘it’s from overseas it must be infinitely better than anything that we have here’; even when that is proven to not be the case).

The ‘American’ you heard is probably just another example of the breed.

What a shame Cunliffe, what goes around comes around, and while you and your henchman McCarten, along with Campbell, Bradbury, Slobcrim, Harre, Hager, et al, were abusing the shit out of the PM and doing your best to ruin him, nothing was said. If DC falls onto or is tripped, pushed, held down while impaled on his sword & resigns from parliament what are the ramifications for National & the New Lynn electorate?
I think New Lynn in 2014 is a very different beast to say Mt Albert in 2008 where even then National ran a pretty incompetent campaign against Shearer.
There’s a very real chance that Tim Groser if he stands will win the seat from Labour for the first time ever. If he does do National get a replacement list MP for Tim?
If not will they stand someone else not in parliament already?

It would appear the rumours you refer to are either untrue, or no evidence is available to substantiate them.
The pertinent question now however is who particularly in Labour has been spreading these rumours – that could be seriously more damning in the upcoming leadership race than whether the stories are in fact true or not.

Cunliffe is the perfect representation of Labour. He is perfect for the job and rocketed them to a result their policies alone did not merit.

He represents Labour wonderfully in the following way:

1. Contrived and stunningly insincere.

2. A lust for power over others.

3. Arrogant narcissistic authoritarian.

4. Envious and bitter towards those who have done better than him.

5. Does not identify with ordinary people.

6. Divisive and tribal.

What more could you ask of a Labour leader ? Mallard has big boots to fill. 😆

I would like to draw your attention to a number of facts.

1. While you rightly oppose censorship on this blog, you have very restrictive and less transparent censorship on your own.

2. I stand by my comments on KB and in real life. I do so only with concern with what is right and not to appeal to the popular, or for personal advantage.

I am unable to find any justification for your allegations of cowardice. However, I do find ample evidence of cowardice on your part. I invite you to re-consider your uncalled for remark and withdraw it.

Specially since we haven’t heard from ether of them since September 20th.
