actually, this guy John Darroch from ‘Farm Watch’ I saw on TV. What a f***ing weirdy beardy clown, probably met some vegan chick at Uni he wants to bone. All I can say to this prune is, mate, don’t ever set foot inside a provincial country pub.

See if you’re squeamish or a girly man, don’t ever set foot on a working dairy farm. Farming is rough and tough and bloody and messy. Colin Meads and Richard Loe could tell Darroch all about it.

Look sometimes you’ve got to shoot dogs if they worry sheep. Sometimes you have cut a pig’s throat. Sometimes you have to get the vet to cut a calf in half – inside the cow, to save the cow’s life. Seen it happen.

Regarding that ‘harrowing footage’ what a joke. Sometimes you have to drag young calves if they can’t stand, ever tried to lift a Friesan bobby calf in gumboots in the pissing rain in a muddy field? Break your bloody back.

‘Farm Watch’ should be roundly lampooned for being totally ignorant, and unrealistic. Farmers need to stand shoulder to shoulder and laugh at these wankers publicly instead of making conciliatory, apologetic noises.

Because the vast majority of farmers take great care of their animals because their welfare is their livelihood.

And don’t ever forget, farmers’ livelihoods paid for Darroch’s hospital visits, schooling and even the road he drives on

      1/ Bullshit. Rural water quality has been improving for decades – it used to be worse, but we weren’t aware of it until testing became widespread and simple.
      
      2/ We can’t control loopy urbanites bizarre cults, fetishes and irrational projection of human motivations onto animals. Domestic food animals prefer to spend basically all their time warm and dry indoors at a food trough if they have the choice. Domestic animals are most productive when not stressed – so successful farms work to provide non-stressing conditions and to breed animals that aren’t stressed in prevalent conditions. And consider that in wild all animals die horrible grisly deaths being torn apart by predators or scavengers. To protect these silly snowflakes we should perhaps ban them from entering farming areas.

        2) most farmers in this country I’m sure are nice, decent people and treat their animals well. BUT the dairy cow has a strong maternal bond and like any mammal, will suffer to have its infant taken off her.
        And no infant mammals should be parted from their mums and taken to be slaughtered.
        This is not “projecting” our own feelings.

      I’m sure a newborn calf is difficult to pick up.
      I don’t think falling onto grass would do much harm.
      In any case, all this could be avoided if the mother cows were given something to miscarry fairly early in pregnancy.
      No babies off to the works at 3 days old, needing to be dragged there.
      No mum cows fighting to get their newly bonded babies back.
      No suffering and no aggravation from city slickers!

  In the small rural town I grew up in,us town kids worked on farms during the holidays for pocket money. I was 12 when I got passed the knife for the first time, and even though I had seen it done many times I still struggled.
  My dad drove trucks at the local dairy co and we would help pick up Bobby calves in spring and my dad was adamant that we did’nt treat them rough,My brother and I would lift them up together onto the back of the truck and dad would stow them in the crates. It was hard physical work but we were taught to treat animals with care and respect.
  In our town we had an expert slaughterman who would help the townies do their Christmas lambs. He was a huge man, 6’6″ and ex army and was respected for producing the most tender meat. The reason he was good was because he was quick and cunning, he would never let the animals fret and would use the knife in the blink of an eye. He was expert with a 5lb hammer and would dispatch boars and bulls with one blow then finish with the knife. He loved his dog’s and if they were any trouble he would take care of them himself or anyone else’s if the need arose.
  He also stressed to us young boys to treat animals with respect because they were our livelihood and food on the table. They always tasted better when you did it right was his saying.
  One year we helped with a hangi for the tangi of a local farmer gored to death by a bull.Because he was an RSA man the locals turned out to help.While the hangi cooked the menfolk talked about how he was a rough bugger with his stock and that no one brought anything off him because of it. The slaughterman said he had had a set to with him over some sheep that he was asked to do for him because they were in such bad knick that they were only good for dog tucker. He refused to do them and after a row he had sorted him out.
  Those were the days when men were men and any strange roosters were looked at sideways.
  The moral of this true story is that farmers do treat their animals well, there may be some rogues out there but as a rule they get noticed by the stockies and people talk and those rough buggers in the end get there just deserts.

  The only way he could be forced by Congress is if they threatened to impeach him for obstruction of justice if he did not place Clinton under a new investigation before the election.
  
  1. A means for POTUS Trump to have her convicted (via a FBI investigation begun before he became President).
  2. A lead in to impeaching Clinton if she wins.

    SPC, that I doubt unless (like Nixon) there’s such good and obvious evidence that she would be convicted in the Senate. Recommending impeachment that will fail is not a winning move, and the Republicans might or might not hold the Senate at this election, but they certainly could not expect to get the 2/3rds vote needed to impeach without really, really, compelling evidence. Most of the Democratic Senators would not vote to impeach Clinton if she was caught standing over a dead body with a smoking revolver in her hand, so the evidence has to be water tight and compelling.
    
    This could be a feint, the FBI could declare tomorrow or a day or two later that there’s nothing to require further action, so it’s a sterilising action against further evidence arising from, say, Wikileaks. Or it could be genuine, sadly hard to tell.
    
    BTW, I know that Nixon resigned rather than be impeached, but he did so as he knew that enough Republicans would vote to impeach.

  I think they’ll win behind Kyle Hendricks and their bats against an Indians pitcher who doesn’t set the world on fire.
  
  BUT – for all the yammering about how similar Kendricks is to Hall of Famer (and former Cub), Greg Maddux, I note the fact that the latter’s post-season results never matched up to his season efforts. Perhaps my memory is fading, but for all his command and finesse over four pitches, he got tagged in a few crucial situations, both with the Cubs and the Atlanta Braves. Could the same happen to Kendricks?
  
  And annoyingly, I have various child-related things going on today that mean I’ll only get to see the latter innings – if I see it at all. Grrrrrrr!

      It’s one of the great mysteries of this sport in particular, with an emphasis on stats that exceeds even cricket.
      
      You see someone like Schwriber hitting a shade under 500 in the Series after 200 days of not seeing an ML pitch, and you ask yourself whether it’s just that aspect of probability – or whether he actually is that skillful?
      
      BTW, on the stats angle and the Cub pitcher Prior being destroyed in 2003 through excessive pitch counts: I saw a related article that talked about how the sabermetricians in the mid-2000’s were the crucial group in preventing that ever happening again to any pitcher. They analysed the hell out of pitch counts and the result today is that pitchers almost never exceed 100 in a game: they get pulled regardless. It was a sad note in the article that Prior’s pitch counts (often around 130) in Sep ’03 alone would have seen him ranked 1, 3, 4, 5, 6 for the whole of 2016. Out of 2000+ games this season, only four pitchers hit 130 – and they were probably being left in to pursue a no-hitter.
      
      I did crack up at that writer the other day asking what the hell Dusty Baker had been waiting for as he watched Prior pitch in that game- “to see smoke coming out of his arm?”

  Something I’m watching for in this series is for Aroldis Chapman to blow a save. It’s gotta come. Cleveland definitely got the better deal with Andrew Miller when the Yankees decided to blow up their team.

FOR YEARS, WIKILEAKS has been publishing massive troves of documents online — usually taken without authorization from powerful institutions and then given to the group to publish — while news outlets report on their relevant content. In some instances, these news outlets work in direct partnership with WikiLeaks — as the New York Times and The Guardian, among others, did when jointly publishing the Iraq and Afghanistan war logs and U.S. diplomatic cables — while other times media outlets simply review the archives published by WikiLeaks and then report on what they deem newsworthy.

WikiLeaks has always been somewhat controversial, but reaction has greatly intensified this year because many of its most significant leaks have had an impact on the U.S. presidential election and, in particular, have focused on Democrats. As a result, Republicans who long vilified the group as a grave national security threat have become its biggest fans (“I love WikiLeaks,” Donald Trump gushed last night, even though he previously called for Edward Snowden to be executed), while Democrats who cheered the group for its mass leaks about Bush-era war crimes now scorn it as an evil espionage tool of the Kremlin.

The group’s recent publication of the emails of Clinton campaign chair John Podesta has been particularly controversial because it comes less than a month before the election; it included all sorts of private and purely personal exchanges along with substantive, newsworthy material; and it was obtained through actions that were likely criminal (hacking). On September 5, 2006, Eli Chomsky was an editor and staff writer for the Jewish Press, and Hillary Clinton was running for a shoo-in re-election as a U.S. senator. Her trip making the rounds of editorial boards brought her to Brooklyn to meet the editorial board of the Jewish Press.

The tape was never released and has only been heard by the small handful of Jewish Press staffers in the room. According to Chomsky, his old-school audiocassette is the only existent copy and no one has heard it since 2006, until today when he played it for the Observer.

“I do not think we should have pushed for an election in the Palestinian territories. I think that was a big mistake,” said Sen. Clinton. “And if we were going to push for an election, then we should have made sure that we did something to determine who was going to win.”

“I went to my bosses at the time,” Chomsky told the Observer. “The Jewish Press had this mindset that they would not want to say anything offensive about anybody—even a direct quote from anyone—in a position of influence because they might need them down the road. My bosses didn’t think it was newsworthy at the time. I was convinced that it was and I held onto it all these years.”

    The point is that she is not averse to rigging elections, which apparently raised a lot of eyebrows even then, according to Chomsky. And later on in the tape she seems to give the actions of Hamas equal validity with Israel.
    
    Regarding capturing combatants in war—the June capture of IDF soldier Gilad Shalit by Hamas militants who came across the Gaza border via an underground tunnel was very much front of mind—Clinton can be heard on the tape saying, “And then, when, you know, Hamas, you know, sent the terrorists, you know, through the tunnel into Israel that killed and captured, you know, kidnapped the young Israeli soldier, you know, there’s a sense of like, one-upsmanship, and in these cultures of, you know, well, if they captured a soldier, we’ve got to capture a soldier.”
    
    Equating Hamas, which to this day remains on the State Department’s official list of Foreign Terrorist Organizations, with the armed forces of a close American ally was not what many expected to hear in the Jewish Press editorial offices, which were then at Third Avenue and Third Street in Brooklyn.

If I have got this wrong somebody more knowledgeable than me will tell us, I hope.
I am a Fonterra shareholder.
My dividends are subject to Resident Withholding Tax on Dividends of 33%, because there are no imputation credits.
Therefore there were no deductions from the Company’s imputation credit account during the year ended 31st July 2016.
When a company pays New Zealand income tax it gets credits to its Imputation Credit Account.
Fonterra’s Imputation Credit Account stood at $20mil as at 31st July 2015. Their imputation credit account stood at $20mil as at 31st July 2016.
It would appear to me that a tanker driver at Clandyboye pays more New Zealand income tax than does the Fonterra group of companies. If that is so, how on earth do the bastards get away with it.

  Perhaps Fonterra doesn’t make a taxable profit ? As the base for Fonterra is still a Cooperative, that could explain it; cooperatives try not to make taxable profits but instead return the profits to their stakeholders. Such monies are taxed in the owners hands as income.
  
  Note that the same tax is being paid regardless of where it is taxed; if imputation credits are accrued and issued then that income isn’t further taxed in the recipients hands. But if no imputation credits are used the recipient DOES pay tax at personal rates (which, it should be noted, are higher than the company rate unless your income is fairly low). Tax incidence is a worthwhile study, companies don’t “pay” tax, they’re merely the conduit, some combination of owners, workers, customers, and wider stakeholders actually pay the tax in the end.

Presently the dividend on supply shares is exempt from Resident Withholding Tax whereas the dividend on investment shares is subject to RWT. So if a cocky had 105,000 shares and only supplied 100,000 kg milksolids, the RWT would only apply to the dividend on the 5000 shares.

I notice the highest number of discharge without conviction are for assault & related. It would be very good to get a break down of the types of assaults. I can see little reason for anyone getting a discharge without conviction for anyone guilty of an assault causing injury.

What is the political fallout for Clinton ten days from the US Presidential election?

1) It terminally mires her campaign and political currency in yet more YUK and creates real doubts over corruption and honesty (and any explaining will be losing)

2) Weiner is particularly distasteful to women which hurts Clinton on a trump card she is playing

6) Whatever is true or not; this is Clinton campaign death-by-another-thousand cuts: innuendo; association; too many scandals; rumours and just dodgy stuff – REALLY DODGY stuff

7) Blaming the Russians doesn’t wash anymore

8) Democrats will stay away; Bernie Sanders supporters will not vote Clinton

9) Republicans will come home because they sniff victory even if they don’t like Trump (they’ll vote for the Supreme Court)

10) African-Americans will go “Hillary -meh Nah” and either stay home or vote for Trump in higher numbers than predicted

11) The Scandal will strengthen Trump’s Catholic and Evangelical vote base to come out (that helped Bush Jr win)

    Actually, the email scandal is worse than Watergate, and rather similar in style. It wasn’t the burglary at the Watergate that did Nixon in, it was the attempt to cover it up that led to the potential impeachment charges of obstruction of justice and perjury against Nixon.
    
    Hillary’s undoubtedly guilty of perjury and obstruction of justice, it is just that Washington now lacks anyone with the cojones to charge her. Back in Nixon’s day there were people with integrity in government (Archibald Cox, Richardson, Ruckelshaus, names you should look up); not so now, Lynch isn’t in that league which is why she was chosen to head the Department of (blank).

At a tribunal hearing earlier this year, one of the two drivers, James Farrar, who has been with the firm since December 2014, said that in August 2015 he earned less than the £6.70 an hour for those aged 21 and older which was then the minimum wage at the time.

Uber said Farrar had picked a month in which he had logged onto the app for the longest period of time but had cancelled or not accepted the most amount of jobs, thereby reducing his hourly pay.

  Comey may have had his hand forced by revelation that DOD had 1000 of the 30000? deleted emails, that Hillary had claimed were all personal (she deleted them after subpoenas were issued). These emails are going to be in congressional hands in a few days.
