I think Jan the Ban Thomas’s extraordinary behaviour is actually very easy to understand and entirely predictable.

She has simply been imprinted.

As a very recent arrival to NZ, and an Intellectual to boot, she will have had total grievance saturation from the moment she got off the plane.

She will have been schooled up 100% about what the evil Pakeha colonizers did, and continue to do, to the poor Tangata Whenua. Maori have done this for years and years

So, monkey see, monkey do. The folks back home will be V impressed.

I’ve seen it many times especially in places like local government; mostly Pommie women who start correcting your Maori pronunciation when they’ve been here for two years.

Anyway; the smart thing to do with this particular Aussie bush fire would have been to put it out very quickly; the Uni hierarchy should have been onto this immediately, it would have been forgotten about in a day or 2.

The more Massey delay and dig in, the worse it will be, but their arrogance and deluded belief in their own priesthood prevents them from doing so.

  I consider myself an even-minded, middle-aged white male. I am open to seeing an issue from anyone side, even if I think you’re bat-eyed crazy. I will still listen, as I’ve been wrong before, and will likely be wrong again in my life. I believe in self-responsibility, equality of opportunity, and supporting those that can either not support themselves, or have fallen down and need help to get back up. I believe in the free market first and foremost and secondly, in the power of regulation to reign in the market when it exhibits behaviour that is not in the best interest.
  
  More and more I find myself being driven to the extreme right on my views as I am evil male Pakeha colonizer, who is a rich prick (I do alright) who wants to oppress the indigent peoples.
  
  On a side note, I find with mirth that the word Pakeha has become such a negative word. More and more it is used in a derogatory sense, perhaps without the intent, but as the outcome. But I forget, that as we’re the majority we can’t take offence to words describing our race in a negative manner as we are not oppressed.

  That was never going to happen because this woman was acting one hundred percent according to the values of the fake ‘university’ which employed her, as kowtow so accurately describes them above.
  
  This institution adheres to tribalism and authoritarian mind control rather than freedom of the intellect – which is why they employed her in the first place.

I don’t understand the purpose of this “Trade for All” agenda apart from just another conversation with people to placate them and the feelz.

I would hazard a guess that less than 1 in 1000 people genuinely understand the ways that trade affects them and its benefits, and I would argue that less than 1 in 100 small business owners also fall into the same category.

    That’s another one that I have struggled with over the last week.
    
    Surely the path to getting an apprenticeship is to approach a potential employer in October/November, quit your current job and go on the dole for six months over the summer, and then take up the apprenticeship.
    
    Now I think this would be extreme, but I am in no doubt this will happen. The other side will be that it’s only the dregs that will get taken on as apprentices as the person doing the training will have little or no say. Instead, the main decision maker will be the person looking at ho much money they get for taking this person on. On the down side I see apprenticeships drying up for those that need to start straight away, who are those that you want as they generally have some sort of external motivation.

      Better if these young people are required to do a trades foundation course first. Then a prospective employer can get a handle on their ability and stickability.
      
      I have I think mentioned here before that our tradie apprentice did the foundation course couple of years ago. Over 20 started, 4 finished. Most were there as required by WINZ so would have been getting at least the dole and fees paid.

    Despite thousands of workers taking to the streets several times this year, only 18 per cent of employees in New Zealand are members of unions.” As we have seen pandering to beneficiaries has no direct gain for Labour since most don’t vote, pay tax or need to join a union. Yes the benefit is taxed but it is from money given to them so they are Claytons tax payers. At the risk of being banned from KB I’d like to take issue with DPF about his description in a post yesterday in which he described Trump as ‘a terrible human being’. Trump can be described using many negative terms and rightly so, perhaps. But the idea of labelling someone as a ‘terrible human being’ is in my view akin to the nutty alt left’s comparing Trump to Hitler, or Clinton’s description of Trump supporters as ‘deplorables’.

Few people in the world deserve to be so called- willful mass murderers such as Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot. Trump is, as we all are, a deeply flawed human being, that is the nature of humanity, but he is is not in any way to be compared with such monsters.

I view the beliefs of those who promote the dismemberment of children in the womb as pretty terrible but no way would I describe the people holding such views as ‘terrible human beings’.

    In 1986 he received the Ellis Island Medal of Honor for helping inner city black youth.
    Mohammed Ali and Rosa Parks were also awarded on that day. There’s a photo of them all standing together with their medals.

I’m wondering when the coroner will release the examination of the death of the guy who burnt himself to death at parliament.

How will the 1 month of illegally imprisoned buy the family court be accounted for.

    They banned him from seeing his kids 100%. No supervised visits, no complying with Hague convention. No convictions and destroyed financially. Revenge for his non compliance of the process, and his taking them to high court. Evil.
    
    He was not a disturbed person. He had is life destroyed by an evil ex and a court that hates men.
    
    He no longer had anything to live for.
    He was being forced to pay child support for his kids, kids he would never see again just because he is male.
    He protested for awhile.
    He protested on the steps of those responsible.
    
    You have no idea about suicide.

Have you seen this? Patients with kidney disorders in NZ are having their dialysis rationed because immigrants (who aren’t eligible) are turning up at emergency departments to be treated. Dialysis is supposed to be three times a week – the minimum standard – but treatment is being rationed down to two times a week which Immigration New Zealand’s chief medical officer says will make patients “get sick and die quicker”. ?

  I heard the item on the Morning Report this morning. Health or Medical treatment tourism is a problem in those countries which provide free medical treatment at the point of delivery like NZ & the UK.
  
  NZ seems to have the same problems as the UK with people from developing countries arriving in country, getting the health treatment & not being able to pay. Yet, because our system is based on in country demand, the system rations treatment to local citizens because of foreign health tourists.

  A simple solution – every year the amount of unpaid medical costs for illegal immigrants is deducted from their country’s foreign aid payment due. The DHB’s are then reimbursed with that withheld aid money, and the financial and administrative cost problems are solved.
  
  So foreign aid is converted into medical aid, books are balanced, people needing medical treatment are fixed, and DHB debt problems go away.
  
  In time, the other countries will see it is better that they use their foreign aid to actually set up medical care in their own country, as it will benefit more of their people at home.
  
  Ignoring the abuse now just encourages more abuse and more costs.

A man deported back here from Oz after committing a series of violent offenses there, has narrowly avoided jail again for an assault on two men in New Plymouth.

The SST reports that Steven Des Thompson, 30, was jailed three times in Australia for serious criminal offending, including assaults and robbery.

In February of this year, without provocation, Thompson assaulted two young men at the Crowded House Bar & Cafe….. Thompson kicked and punched one of the men as he laid on the ground, and when a second victim came to the aid of the injured man, Thompson told him to “fuck off”, before punching and kicking him as well.

At his sentencing, *Judge Warren Cathcart* said the violence was extreme, unprovoked and gratuitous, and the effect on the victims was profound. He noted Thompson’s troubling criminal history in Australia, and said it indicated he had a propensity to serious violence.

However, *Judge Cathcart* gave Thompson credit for an early guilty plea, noted he was attending councelling, and sentenced him to….. *7 1/2 months home detention*.

      I have sat through enough trials to know judges weigh carefully the risks of freedom against the reasonable wish to see the errant reform.
      
      There are cohorts among offenders related to maturity. That will have been tested. The judge will have had reports to help. There are well known drop out ages and the offender may have been at that point.

      They are amazing dogs, at first I was a sceptic (too much bad press). But my wife’s family had bred Rotties in South Africa and when we were moving back to England from Germany, my wife pressured me to get one, that dog is still with us.
      
      The eldest of our dogs is now 11. He and one of the girls we had (she was put down recently because she had cancer in her limbs and shoulder) were brought out from England 5 years ago. We bought two more 2 years ago (a brother and sister). Sadly, the sister had behavioural problems and for everybody’s safety we had to have her put down. So we are left with 2 males. Both have wonderful natures and are great family dogs.
      
      We do not have them as guard or security dogs, they are family pets. However, there size can make them intimidating to strangers, but both of them want are happy to have attention and adoration.

  One solution might be to enlarge the reclamation. If that was sufficient it could provide for a transport corridor and business. The latter could fund the project.
  The high rise canyons on narrow 19th century streets don’t facilitate people movement or planning. Plenty of room at Kaiwharawhara for expansion if only one could get through town.

    Heh, slightly long story, but I decided that as I am such a critic of what the Satanic Death Cult has brought to the West, I really ought to experience it first hand in its natural setting (albeit, I chose some of the tamer countries, not ones that chop hands, feet and heads off, but any country that incorporates a sword on car registration plates means business). All of my prejudices have been substantiated with one exception. Education moderates the literal excesses of the Koran. I had a lovey bloke as a guide, he went to Cambridge on a scholarship and filled me in a bit on the intolerance we see. Another casual observation, a lack of access to beer makes people very miserable. I’ve also discovered where the world’s 1970’s Mercedes Benz’s have ended up.

The NZ peso has slipped further against ALL of the currencies of our trading partners which effectively means that our economy is doing worse than theirs. Devaluation is usually perceived as a positive for exporters but it’s a double-edge sword once essential the increased costs of imported plant such as tractors and agricultural equipment, fertiliser, palm nuts and building materials hit the rural economies. International loan repayments have increased for both the Government and private sector. Let’s not forget Joe Public who faces increases in fuel, food and overseas travel costs and the Kiwi’s newly found love affair with online shopping.

This is all about Steven Joyce’s much derided fiscal black hole. The only error he made was recognising the magnitude of that black hole. International money markets haven’t.

  oh gee GazzaW don’t knock the Peso as it is falling in sympathy with the NZ$ so the next 4 weekly pension day due 21 August might hold up within the recent range. Thanks to El President who’s rating slipped like a falling coconut recently. With the amount of Chinese money flowing in they might soon expand their “nation” with 7200 more island that make up the Philippines.
  One local bus company has a continuous fleet of new replacement coaches flowing through and their big new depot is in the colour scheme as the coaches. Perhaps that is what keeps a 4 hour coach trip around the southern end of Cebu Island down to about NZ$4.50. They do operate to a sort of loose timetable but are always full when they depart and any others picked up en route sit in the aisle.

Terrible interview by Bridges on the AM show. He supports Maori seats being removed but had a weak excuse of it being too hard. The last week he went to Massey to speak where he should have told them to get f***ed and refuse to speak there until Jan Thomas reversed her ban on Brash speaking. He is becoming a very disappointing leader, lacking any courage to make any difficult calls.

    Like after the National Party conference, he should have come out and said he was not going into government with Winston while he was leader yet when asked by Garner he just couldn’t give a straight answer to the question. Grow a pair FFS, I would guess that 99% of his supporters would probably rather eat a dog turd then go into government with that corrupt prick. I know it’s politics but there’s still room for taking a moral stand even if the stakes are high.

The taniwha has surfaced in the Christchurch district, this time seeking a share of whopping consenting costs for a nine-metre long two-metre high retaining wall.

A Banks Peninsula couple wants to build a concrete block wall along a bare earth bank which was dug out during earthquake rebuild work.

The couple, who live on Governors Bay Rd, say they are “sickened” by consenting costs of about $20,000 – the same amount as budgeted for the wall’s construction.

Their project will also need iwi approval, including a processing cost of $800, because their property is within the area of the Mahaanui Iwi Management Plan Silent Files and Kaitorete Spit cultural zone in the Christchurch District Plan.

A silent file area is an area given protection because it contains significant wahi tapu (sacred places) or wahi taonga (treasured possessions). The area is larger than the wahi tapu to ensure the exact location of the sacred place remains secret or “silent”. “

There are half a dozen Muslim families (of various nationalities and ethnicities) within a short walk of my place. I’ve chatted with all of them from time to time, over the fence and in the living room. Not once I have heard the offensive attitudes that this site constantly attributes to followers of their religion. (Of course, if I want to find evidence of vicious homophobia, crude bigotry and bizarrely archaic attitudes to women, I have only to look at the comments on this very site.)
Instead, my Muslim neighbours appear to have the same concerns and preoccupations that I do – the health and wellbeing of our families, the discomforts of the local climate in midwinter, and the difficulty of obtaining staple foodstuffs like teff in this backward country.
What is it I’m supposed to hate about them?
(And by the way – if anyone here knows of a reliable source of teff at a reasonable price, please let me know. I’d happily eat njera at every meal, and can’t beat freshly made.)

  The real problem is that Ardern, Robertson and the rest of the Labour crew were either incapable, too lazy or too distracted to do any policy work during nine years in opposition.
  
  The warnings of pending global economic correction were obvious prior to the election. Timing is hard to predict but the if-factor is not–over borrowed money has to be repaid eventually.
  
  There has been an excess of credit creation world wide and that splashed around pushing up values excessively. The effects of this have been seen previously time and again.
  
  The CoL didn’t have enough nous to know what they were taking on. Now their plans will meet a head on international firestorm. As they only accept like minded advisors NZ will be the worse for wear.

The last couple of nights there has been a story about a young guy with Downs Syndrome who works for Countdown. He approached Kiwi Saver to be able to withdraw his retirement fund early as life expectancy is not high for DS. The Retirement Commissioner has been fighting his corner to have DS recognised as a valid reason for early release of Kiwi Saver funds. It seems he has now been successful and will use some of the funds for him and his carer (his mum) to visit his brother overseas.

Some viewers took it upon themselves to offer to be helpful and offer cash to help him out. It was refreshing for this young man with Down’s Syndrome to say “I want to spend my own money”. His mother added, No thank you, we don’t need money or Give a Little.

  I’m sympathetic too to the young man’s plight.
  His is the classic retirement age issue. One size does not fit all. Plumbers “on the tools” can be physically finished by 55. Labourers and other tradies likewise.
  
  We should acknowledge these life patterns and make provision. It would not be difficult to craft rules allowing for an adjustment to notional retirement ages for different groups. With a discretionary provision and basic review rights that should cover most anomalies.

  Sadly waikatogirl those rushing to assist this young guy are not so willing to provide the increasing amount of care he will need later when that saving could be of most benefit. There is a lot of unseen complication for those with Downs Syndrome with their body shutting down progressively towards the end. This can mean 24/7 care needs to be provided by the state. Which could also the appropriate time for the use of those savings.
  While it seems a fair thing for him to “spend his own money” the accumulated value of his Kiwi Saver is partly his and equally subsidized by his employer as well as a tax refund if within the limits. We must question the mother’s wisdom in choosing to enroll him in Kiwi Saver where because of his disadvantaged condition he was always unlikely to work to anywhere near retirement age.
  The purpose of Kiwi Saver is for people to save for retirement with the added growth factor of employer contributions and the prudent investment management of a good fund operator. While making a portion available for getting a leg up into the housing market is a logical substitute investment for the recipient is was never intended as funding source for other whims. Though Labour did want to get their hands on it to control inflation that failed too.
  However as seen during years in the care industry these people are very easy manipulated and susceptible to ideas being planted. Usually by the staff member who will most likely be needed to accompany them. In the community houses where this carry on is rampant they usually end up being poorly catered for with virtually every meal content measured down to the last gram.
  Amusing to see Mum has been the driver of this fiasco and it is she who will accompany him as his carer. A roll that recently became a paying occupation that could have just as easily have been saved for this trip along with some of juniors income. That way his savings could have stayed intact for those rainy days that are surely in his future where there might be no mum to help out.
  It could also be the springboard to a rush of sob stories for more wanting early access to their Kiwi Savings.
  Truth is the easy out is there if he has been in it for so long to simply opt out of the current scheme then make a fresh start after the holiday. He is well past the minimum term but would have been less likely to get so much Media party attention.

If the buyer has a $50k deposit, the bank lends $450k, but the market value of the property is $650k, I’d say the bank’s money is pretty safe, even if the borrower has an above average likelihood of defaulting.

  But remember KiwiBank is a taxpayer owned company who were extensively bailed out in the formative years by NZ Post.
  In a real market their capital also taxpayer funded would be at a low Standard & Poors level and not really financially viable as a bank.
  But is is only taxpayers money only when required to be viable.

15% more for a substantially reduced publication with an editorial policy and opinion pieces almost universally attacking capitalism, thrift and all things ‘pale, male and stale ‘.
And wrapped in a plastic bag, while running a campaign to ban plastic bags.
Any publication that bashes 50% of its market (the section more likely to buy their product), hikes their price 15% while attacking business, and has opinion writers that run 90% in favour of the left wing deserve the backlash they are about to experience.
Time for any readers to the right of Labour/Green to wean themselves from this failed business model.

There’s currently a recommendation from a committee looking at the Births, Deaths, Marriages and Relationships Registration Bill. If it was accepted it would allow people to change genders on their birth certificate by way of a statutory declaration instead of needing confirmation by a judge.

As an aside there would also be options other than male or female, such as “intersex” or “X (unspecified)”.

But the Lesbian Rights Alliance Aotearoa says this will put women and girls in danger – because they couldn’t then retain the right to female-only or lesbian-only spaces, services and provisions, because any male could simply declare he was female and have every legal right to use them.

The LRAA refers to this as “a blatant disregard for women’s human rights”.

Oh, you mean like the guy that decided he was a she, tried to join a women-only gym even though he hasn’t had any gender-reassignment surgery, and complained bitterly when the gym said no? Quite right – under this amendment, he will simply have his birth certificate changed, go back to the gym and insist they let him join, with the full backing of the law.

Welcome to reality, folks.

The process of recycling plastic into suitable filament for printing is already being introduced to these highly populated high waste locations. Even children can make up to US$1.50 per day recovering it from the local dump. Meanwhile NZ’z bag lady has decided to ban the humble plastic bag while the unions are whinging about job loses for bag makers who shut down. You can’t make up stuff as good as this. Lol

As readers no doubt already know, housing finance has historically been strongly correlated with values, therefore it remains one of the best predictors of price growth.

When speculators (mis – named ‘investors’) don’t see easy housing inflation ahead, they exit the market.

The only question is … when will the trickle turn in to a flood … on both sides of the Tasman ?

The large speculator segment of the market is particularly fragile. They frighten easy..

Fear is a far more powerful motivator than greed.
