If these fuckwit Air New Zealand engineers strike for three days before Christmas, the public will never forget.

And they are striking because they are not happy with 50 percent penalty rates for overtime. I remember getting paid overtime. In 1986.

There is simply no way to mitigate the effects of a three day strike before Christmas. The travel plans of thousands will be ruined, not simply disrupted.

    Nobody under the age of 45 has experienced these kinds of strikes.
    
    I remember the Australian pilots strike in 1989. Ultimately they were all sacked. There were no domestic flights in Australia for 6 weeks. New pilots were recruited from scratch and pilots brought in from overseas to progressively get things going again.
    
    The pilots Union seriously miscalculated and wrecked the lives of their members. Few of them were ever employed in Australia again.

      I haven’t flown Air NZ since I took a flight to Auckland with them, plane was filthy, seats were falling apart, rubbish in the pockets, no service from them, and the pressurisation left me with sore ears.
      I flew Jetstar back, the plane was clean, the condition superb, lovely service, friendly smiles, and the pressurisation was great, no pain.
      Haven’t flown AirNZ since (Over 5 years now) and for some reason I never seem to hit the problems with Jetstar that the AirNZ fans all complain about.
      Only ever had one flight cancelled, due to Wellington airport being closed, and they put me up at their expense in a hotel with dinner and breakfast vouchers and flew me to Wellington the next day.

        I’m an Elite member with Air NZ thanks to regular business travel, but have no issues using Jetstar for the odd flight if it’s substantially cheaper. Never had a late flight (Air NZ often is) and there is the bonus of no stupid safety videos.
        
        I think the lack of a domestic lounge for Jetstar would be a killer for weekly travel, but for occasional off peak travel, they’re great and I’m pleased the competition exists.

  So people impacted increases exponentially.
  
  And even if there is a resolution the number of people anxious is already huge and they will not forget.

    Yes, and my family is one of those. We’re off to Q’town on 23rd to visit our daughter who has made huge preparations. Her sisters and families are also going and the cost for airfares etc. has been significant.

    ‘No strikes on my watch’ was a deliberate and reckless ‘punt’ from Ardern when she was NZ’s PM-to-be.
    
    How could she stand there and make hollow ‘no strikes’ promises in respect of a future 3-year period over which she could have no meaningful foresight?
    
    She was naive, inexperienced, and reckless in her willingness to say anything that might win her a stray vote. Then, when her ‘strikes-free’ vision crashes spectacularly 15 months later, she shows herself utterly helpless to do anything – with all her Government leadership power – to broker a solution to this serious breakdown of NZ’s air travel infrastructure.
    
    NZ was sold utopian visions that could never be delivered substantively by this inexperienced woman. She in turn won unexpected and artificial elevation to the PM’s office via the whimsical and capricious Winston Peters.
    
    This fine country deserves much better, more principled government than the present incumbents are able to offer or deliver.

  Well, looks like some of my family is not making it to my wedding… or for those smart enough to fly Jetstar down, may not make it back after.
  Hoping that the bosses at Jetstar fly in a bunch of spare planes with Engineers on board and off free flights to all people holding a valid AirNZ ticket for a cancelled flight.
  
  Do the unions not realise that if you kill the company, then there is no job any longer.
  Today’s strike may not be the final straw, but tomorrow’s may be.

  I fly quite a bit. Im AirNZ Elite (yes, one of those wankers). Ive been long haul (Canada, US, Europe) 5 times already this year, always wanker class. I have one last minute trip left, Im flying this weekend to London for the week. Every single one of those flights this year has been AirNZ.
  
  Spoke with our travel agent. Told her that after the debacle of me trying to get out of the US earlier this year and cancelled flights from Houston, and the strike, I wouldn’t be bothered seeing what AirNZ could offer. Im flying Emirates to London. And they have been kind enough, after a long chat with our travel agent, to upgrade me to first class for the long legs ex-Auckland and return.
  
  AirNZ, fuck you. Chompers ‘no strikes on my watch’ and the short arsed pensioner can kiss my hairy arse. You cannot be trusted to run an economy, so I will take my hard earned to an organisation that understands customer service. I understand they will be serving Dom P2 on the flight – Im quite looking forward to that.
  
  We are being dragged back to the awful days of the 1970’s, all courtesy of the fucktards who voted for Winston to ‘keep Bill honest’.

      Flipper, Ive only heard good things about Emirates, particularly Business Class, but First Class appears out of this world. 17 hours to Dubai, Im leaving Auckland at 915 on Friday night, with Thursday night this week our staff Crimbo do at a nice restaurant in Auckland. Friday brunch with my leadership team, where they shall each be getting a rather tidy bonus letter, then I shall figure out which movies to watch as I get plastered at 35,000 feet.     I thought this covered all ground services, including pre-take off checks, cleaning etc and applied to all carriers.
    
    I know AirNZ does maintenance work for a wide variety of airlines (including even planes being flown from Oz and elsewhere for servicing). What about other services like cleaning and pre-flight? I would have thought it would make sense for Emerates et al to use AirNZ ground forces for those too.

      And reneg’ing on their previous agreement to use the HPE process that they’d otherwise used for years.

By the way, E Tu execs seem to be running around in some flash new cars – I followed one into the supermarket carpark at the weekend so they seem to be able to use them for full private use as well.         I’m just hoping ANZ doesn’t cave to the engineers outrageous demands. The result will be higher air fares and they are way too high as it is. It would also give the engineers the confidence to pull this stunt every Christmas, year after year. I feel really sorry for anyone whose plans are disrupted and for the businesses affected. I hope the loathing that comes from this strike is directed at the engineers, their union bosses and the despicable COL.

        Why shouldn’t the public know the AirNZ engineers’ general pay-level rates? Do they feel sufficiently aggrieved about that to seek to punish their own customers? The very paying-customers who provide the only income available to pay the engineers’ existing and future incomes?
        
        This is the real world, itstricky. It’s not as though AirNZ is publishing a long list of its engineers’ names, accompanied by each engineer’s gross income earned over the last 12 months.
        
        (Mind you, an exposé such as the latter might produce a quick end to the engineers’ strikes when their wives find out the engineers’ real incomes that they have kept secret for years!)

        As I’m self-employed and self-sufficient, I can’t go ‘on strike’ to gain artificial ‘leverage’ when I want to gain an income increase at everyone else’s expense).
        
        And I despise those who would disadvantage their own customers and their fellow New Zealanders – the source of their income from wages and salaries – in the most critical week of the year when those customers want to be able to join their families at Christmas. It’s a blatant abuse of collective union power.
        
        I hope that Air NZ does not give in to this pitiful blackmail that you seem to favour, itstricky. Its job as the country’s national / international carrier is to deliver efficient, safe and reliable air travel. Old-style, confrontational labour ultimatums in the week before Christmas deserve to cost dearly their self-centred engineering promoters and perpetrators.

  The Air NZ, engineers, via their union spokesperson, suggesting that safety is their primary concern is nonsense. Air NZ have both NZCAA Certificates as an operator under Rule Part 119/121 and a maintenance organisation primarily under Rule Part 145.
  The intrinsic safety that these certificated bring through the policy and procedures that support them, in conjunction with the suite of manuals that support the maintenance of the aircraft provided by the manufacturer ensures the safe operation of the aircraft. The overarching Safety Management System (SMS) that the company will have to have, ensures through internal and external audits that safety is maintained.
  It’s about money – The engineers will have had significant input into their rosters, with the aim to maximise income for the least amount of days at work. I suggest these rosters will have been constructed to ensure part of the weekends will be seen as overtime, hence the debate over retaining double time.
  To use the travelling public as pawns at this time of year is both cynical and manipulative, and is all about greed.
  Make no mistake; this is about a union flexing its muscle, with tacit approval from a Labour lead government and a return to the 1970/80’s approach to industrial relations.
  Its just the start unfortunately with the new Industrial legislation.

      It’s a pilots’ job to ensure – as best he or she can – that the engineers have done their job properly. That’s why a pilot will invariably do his or her own walkabout in advance of taking off. As a customer, I hope that there are as many cross-checks as practicable.

As far as ‘de-funding’ goes, again, what planet does McClay live on?

For years now, public monies have only been available for outlets promoting beneficial stories of multiculturalism. When was the last time you saw a TV show or heard a radio documentary questioning the beneficence of mass immigration from 3rd world countries, or, say, Moslems?

  I think Todd McClay reveals precisely why New Zealanders have become concerned about immigration and globalisation. McClay on at least 2 occasions in his article tries to reassure his readers that we are not anti-immigration and that we are “good global citizens”.
  
  This is the exact point that Donald Trump was making and Brexit was making! This desire to be good global citizens means that we open up our doors to people of all cultures and all races in vast numbers. Many Kiwis understandably are concerned that our government is replacing us with people from overseas.
  
  So here are a couple of points that should be made. The government of New Zealand is elected to govern in the best interests of the people of New Zealand.
  
  The government of New Zealand should be less concerned about our reputation as “good global citizens” and more concerned about the well-being of ordinary New Zealanders.
  
  In New Zealand we have a way of life that is worth preserving and conserving and building on. The effect of bringing in thousands and thousands of foreigners who may or may not assimilate can be profound. We note with alarm the experience of countries like France and Belgium and Britain that have many thousands of unassimilated immigrants who do not seem to want to assimilate and indeed do not value the culture of their new country.
  
  But this is the trouble. Many many New Zealanders are concerned about the effect of thousands and thousands of immigrants being brought in each year. But both major parties refuse to listen to the concerns of their voters and refuse to change course on immigration.
  
  Labour is no better. They came into office promising to cut down on immigration. But they broke their promise by badgering Australia to take in 3rd world refugees that Australia refuses to accept and the United States refuses to accept. So instead of cutting down immigration labour is wanting to bring in more Third World immigrants regardless of their merits!
  
  Both National and Labour need to wake up and smell the coffee on the immigration issue.

    The problem seems to have gotten worse in recent years. Up to about 2015 we had negative or zero net migration to NZ then whammy 45 000 followed by 60 ooo. National had been very successful and everybody had started coming home again.
    
    The foreign student training industry was involved too. They seem to be offering implied permanent residency. Further the economy was taking off again and we needed workers urgently so more migrants. That gave NZ an instant housing crisis. Add internal migration and wonder again why Auckland was in trouble.
    
    Chinese have been settling in Auckland for years but the Middle East wars have got NZ twitchy about Muslim migration. The Australians had wisely in the past turned away from open doors to accepting those who could make a new home peaceably. Our formal immigration quota was set at a level that we could handle. Those people need support and there are large hidden teams doing that successfully.
    
    A diversity based society has no rules so everyone is free to do their own thing. Unfortunately that is the opposite of civil society. Our Maori tribes have a stake in this too and in maintaining their positions among themselves.They have been rearmed with settlements so peace is tenuous.

A sole trader tradie starts up a business while stacking shelves at night to make ends meet. Raises a mortgage against the family home to buy gear, vehicle and a workshop. And can offset tradie losses against other income until the profits start.

Which by the way might never happen due to the failure rate of small businesses.

But in the eyes of the government, no problem offsetting losses. It’s just one sector that is targeted, that would be the one supplying rentals for tenants. Yet another way to encourage landlords out of the market and discourage them from buying some of the new build apartments coming on to the market.

Meantime, state house approved applicants up 63% on September 2017.

  This is an extremely tricky one. Extradition treaties and comity between nations require the arrest warrant be actioned (as long as the alleged crime is also a crime in the country who does the arrest). If the Canadian arrested had indeed infringed Chinese law then he (and Canada) must accept the consequences, even if a Chinese jail is not as comfy as Leavenworth.
  USA should do the right thing here and pressure China to get the Canadian released. However Donald Trump’s tariffs etc against China means the screw has already been turned nearly as much as possible.
  I think that Kim Dotcom would like to ‘buy off’ some tinpot nation who would give him citizenship and then arrest some Kiwi on trumped up charges to use to bargain Kim’s release.

    I’m waiting to find out if this medieval action is going to set the history of this century. Conspiracy is likely to be a crime worldwide but the underlying issue of the substance of may not be. Here that is a claim by the USA to extraterritorial imperial rights to demand other nations do as the USA demands. Chinese citizens (and NZ ones) have no sovereign loyalty to the USA.
    
    Compounding this, is President Trump negotiated with Premier Xi ongoing terms of trade. Effectively a truce requiring good faith. Both countries have serious issues of technology development, control and future trade power. At that very same time an extremely high ranking person in the Chinese corporate hierarchy was being arrested by a third country on the orders of the USA. Either the POTUS was ignorant, hence demonstratively irrelevant, or a party to an extreme insult to the Leader of China. That traditionally requires retaliation.
    
    The USA cannot claim to have clean hands when they were able to quote foreign presidents’ personal communications possibly forwarded via the 5-eyes network with which we assist.

  As I posted yesterday, I refuse to take the hand-wringing by James Shaw et al seriously.
  
  These three scientists have at least made a conscious decision and effort to reduce their “carbon footprint” and have reduced the number of miles they fly per year.
  
  If James Shaw HONESTLY believed the world is as doomed as he claims, then he should do the same. Instead he’s flown off to multiple conferences over the last six months (at least five that I’m aware of – roughly one a month) in Singapore, China, Suva, California, Scott Base, and now Poland.
  
  Between October 1 and the end of December last year, he $26,712 on international travel to Europe for climate-change meetings. If he REALLY believes what he preaches, how can he justify all this jetting around?
  
  Mr Shaw – instead of jetting all over the world, try a video conference.

    He is, after all, the Minister responsible for the Statistics Department who have left us with no usable Census results.

White males are now officially a minority group in some English Universities.

Two Universities in England are now actively targeting white males in recruitment drives because the numbers are too low, and they are now classed as a “minority group”.

Essex and Aston Universities have become Britain’s first non-elite institutions to write the target into their official recruitment plans, putting white males on a par with Black students and women engineers.

White British students are in a minority at roughly one in ten institutions, according to the Higher Education Statistics Agency.

“The global compact for migration will help governments work together to better manage migration and ensure that people making cross-border journeys can do so in a legal, orderly and safe way.”

The idea of the agreement was to create a political platform for states to cooperate, she said.

Cooperate in facilitating the movement of illegal migrants.

Thirty out of the 193 UN countries that agreed on the pact did not attend the conference.

On Friday, the US described the pact as “an effort by the United Nations to advance global governance at the expense of the sovereign right of states”.

    It is one of the universes greatest mysteries why Hosking is so far behind the 8 ball on this. There is no excuse.
    
    A glimmer of hope is being very generous.
    
    Clearly Hosking has not read the parts of the document that relate to how this pact is to be ‘sold’ to the public. One could argue he has inadvertantly already ‘sold’ out.

      I sighed at the ‘good thing’ statement too. But during the debate he did seem to finally understand that it would work its way into our laws.
      
      However, he is middle aged, comfortably off and seems to be too clueless or too lazy to really look into the issues and see just how horrific the situation has become in some European countries.
      
      He likes to have a light banter with people and keep the tone jolly in short chats. He’s no hard-nosed political debater.
      
      I’m hoping National sticks to its guns on this.
      
      National needs to point out the threat to free speech and get the media to understand they are to be trained up as the UN wishes.
      
      I know, I know, most ‘journalists’ think that way anyway, but the idea of being told how to think still won’t appeal to many in the media.

Ardern’s responses to Bridge’s questioning in Parliament yesterday about the Czech drug smuggler affair were uncharacteristically precise. I had originally dismissed the conspiracy theories because I thought this whole thing was due to a Lees-Galloway cock up. But it seems Ardern may have had to craft her answers carefully, quite possibly with the benefit of legal advice. I look forward to Bridge’s continued cross examination with interest.

    Look at the Handley stuff up. That was never resolved. The real story in that is that PriNZess was trying to set up a gig for a mate and all the levers that were pulled to make that happen including, it would seem:
    * An expedited citizenship so he would not have to wait the 5 years us normal plebs have to wait.
    * A fake recruitment process where multiple candidates were rejected but, surprise, PriNZess’ mate gets selected even though he does not seem to be that suited to the job (based on feedback from others in the industry).
    
    So she’s hoping like hell something big will come along and bury Sroubek too. Something that doesn’t have her fingerprints all over it.

  The terminology is confusing. Normally a CEO is the top employee in an organisation and reports to a governance body (eg Board, City Council etc). It is a bit confusing in Government as CEO’s of sub-departments can end up reporting both to the parent CEO and the responsible Minister.
  In this case Kiwibuild was established under MBIE and then transferred to the newly formed HUD (Phil Twyford being AFAIK the responsible Minister for both). My theory is the Kiwibuild CEO had a bust-up with the HUD CEO in the past and the Kiwibuild CEO has refused to have anything to do with the HUD CEO. It could be too that the HUD CEO wants to micromanage the Kiwibuild – Minister relationship meaning a loss in status for the Kiwibuild CEO. So arguably it is a matter for the HUD CEO and the State Services Commissioner to sort out, hence Phil Twyford and Jacinda Arden are right to keep out of it.

    There’s a difference between keeping out of it (ie. not interfering in the process) and deliberately not being up to speed with what is happening and keeping informed.
    
    This has implications for a major policy (Kiwibuild). Twyford is the responsible minister. It is his job (which we pay him for) to keep informed, even if he is not wading in.
    
    If a pissing match is going on at the CEO level Twyford should know all the details.

    You’re forgetting the departmental agency model. These are little bubbles in a ministry that operate independently and have their own CEO who reports to a minister, who may not have responsibility of the host ministry. CERA was an example when hosted by dpmc.
    
    It can be done to ensure govt retains control of the purse strings and policy agenda, is quick to establish as it operates within an existing ministry’s legislative framework, and more efficient than setting up a separate agency.

Do you know 92 women who were living in violent relationships have been murdered in NZ, in the past……7 years ie for those of us who can count – circa 13 per year.

So, what is being done about this situation?

Well some busy body charity group is telling the media that they need the government to throw money their way. This money will then be used for anti violence training programmes, and we are told this will cut the murder rate.

Where is their proof?

Why are the frightened to speak the truth? The police and the justice system know who these violent morons are, it is time they are taken out of circulation the first time they offend and are prevented from harming anybody until they can demonstrate that they deserve to live in society freely.

As for the do gooders groups it is time these waste of space/leeches are told the money store is closed and to go consume themselves in their own echo chamber.

  Yet the only solution she and her mates offered for DV was to tell the victim to leave.
  And they were very nasty to anybody who didn’t agree with them.

  The anger management groups were useless too.
  The money is better invested in funding the police.

We live in a small community, on the basis of what we were told last night, some of our close friends are beating their wives and/or children. I know it is not so. But because they play with the stats & generalise the numbers you are fed these rubbish statements as though they are fact.
    
    The police need:
    1. The resources;
    2. The balls; and
    3. Support from the politicians & the courts in order to deal with this issue as you say with force.

My pensioner mother was telling me about a woman who lives down the road from her, that attends her community bingo events. Mum informed me of the women’s lifestyle/arrangements. Initially I was “she can do what she likes with her money she’s retired.” Oh no she isn’t, 60, she is married, but living apart, he lives in a state house with his adult children, none of which work, all drug addicts. She has her own flat, she has mastered getting everything for free, invalids benefit perhaps, free doctors, free this, housing accomodation, still bikes to the local gym and spends the rest of the day gambling at the Casino or at bingo comps around the town. Apparently if you can’t take her somewhere midweek, out of the blue, she turns and gets really nasty. Praise the welfare state.

What amuses me is the Pollies and Judiciary getting their tits in a tangle about name suppression. Havent they heard of the INTERNET. Time the ass of a law was changed to bring it into the 21st Century and out of the 19th Century.

Stuff the old quaint legal traditions. If Im on the jury convicting sorry trying the accused I want to know their past behavior as that will be a predictor of their current and future behaviour.

  Parliament has enshrined the relevant processes in the law. An accused is allowed under law to say he or she will appeal a decision not to grant name suppression. The judge then has no option but to grant interim name suppression for 20 working days to allow a formal appeal to be made. So the Police and Judiciary are not to blame – they are merely following the processes laid down by law. Same goes for the accused’s lawyer. He or she needs to advise the accused about name suppression then do as the client instructs.
  The lawyer would also point out the advantages of an early ‘guilty’ appeal and of implications regarding insanity.
  The other issue is Police investigations are continuing and the quality of the Police case would be a big influencing factor in whether an early guilty plea is forthcoming.

      I think the 20 days could be reduced to three days – that should be long enough to prepare papers, then the Crown would have another three days to respond then a High Court Judge can consider it ‘on the papers’ (ie no hearing) in another few days. The law could also be clarified to set the mis-trial hurdle higher so that an accused cannot argue that potential jurors could be influenced by knowing the identity of the accused or associated background. It seems to me that the attitude is that jurors should be wrapped in cotton wool and cannot be trusted to abide by instructions not to let things they happen to learn from outside court influence their decisions. Jurors should be treated with more respect than that.

        Doing an appeal as you suggest on the papers is reasonable but both parties need time at this stage. I see little harm, if any, done by the usual remand. The suspect is in custody and he is still only a suspect.

I find Vodafone a dozy outfit to deal with and am about to weigh in for a fight with Spark over other things (I purchased three $20 2G data packs which seem to have just gone down the gurgler) and meanwhile was paying $0.30 per meg over limit.

However they did not actually “do the same” as they dressed their Maori Santa up in a red suit and white beard instead of a Maori cloak like Nelson but of course this had absolutely no bearing on the situation and was a trivial little detail of no consequence as this is all about racism didn’t you know.

Aroha Williams donned the red suit and white beard to thrill the teeming crowd in the Ruapehu district town which just scrapes over the headcount of 1000.

And there’s the key. I don’t think people in Nelson were particularly worried that Santa was played by a Maori. It was the fact that he DIDN’T LOOK ANYTHING LIKE Santa!

Take a look at the Raetihi Santa. Red suit, white beard, looks like a traditional Santa. Which is what everyone – particularly children – want to see at a SANTA parade.

The guy in Nelson didn’t make any effort to look like Santa. He wore a cloak, carried a taiaha (why? to beat up the reindeer??), had no red suit, no hat, no beard.

Kids come to a Santa parade to see Santa.
Nelson’s parade had no Santa.

How can something that is so obvious that a 3-year-old child could explain it, be so hard for the Herald to work out?

Got to Hawera, hired a car, got my tools home etc
Took the car back to Hawera
Miss read timetable to catch 4-30pm bus home to Wgtn.
NO bus, only travels 4-30pm on Friday’s
NO other way out of Hawera till 9-30am following day.
Hitchhiked as far as Bulls and caught the 6pm bus to wellington station
No trains to hutt valley, only buses (NO valley flier anymore.)

2. Thank you to the kind soles who picked me up.
a. 2 Maori ladies going to the Patea Butcher
b. A guy in a Mercedes with his parents dropped me in Wanganui, then after shopping, picked be up again and took me to Bulls.
Moral of the story
People can and will overcome an immoral, dishonest and incompetent government.
If the attitude and kindness of these people, is any indication.

Censorship is alive and malignant over at The Standard

The iron censorship regime imposed at the Stranded by the late unlamented “Weka” almost killed the site. This writer, i.e., moi, was by no means the only contributor there to find himself constantly scolded, warned and lectured for the most ridiculous infractions of some imaginary and unpredictable code that she (“Weka”) carried around in her fevered head. It was the blogger’s equivalent of walking blindfolded on the edge of a huge cliff, with some pecksniffian dolt—i.e., “Weka”—constantly snarling at him and prodding him with a sword. The upshot of her absurd maladministration was that the “Open Mike” thread—the Stranded’s equivalent of Kiwiblog’s General Debate—sank from several hundreds to an average of a couple of dozen posts a day.

Eventually “Weka” was fired, or else she perished in a conflagration of her own impossibly punctilious self-righteousness.

That ridiculous and destructive tendency to censor, constrict, and inhibit did not die with Weka, however. The revolving door that ushered her out also ushered back in the aggressive and abusive Labour Party apparatchik Te Reo Putake, AKA “Squealer”.

Te Reo Putake has come up with an intriguing new method of dealing with anyone vulgar and misguided enough to hold a contrary view to his own. Arguing a point and defending one’s corner, politely but robustly, is no longer permissible, apparently. What counts is whether or not you are stringently, at every moment, acting in a manner acceptable to such virtuous souls as Te Reo Putake and…. well, “Weka.” According to this line of “thinking”, the mere act of criticising something either said or written by a woman is an act of misogyny.

Sir Galahad Putake has banned this writer, i.e., moi, for one week for “pointless and unwarranted attacks on women in the media.” That’s after I dared to call Trevor Moloch’s squeeze Jane Clifton “vacuousness personified.”

  Always was crap as far as I’m concerned but could be two things. Either removing preservative which would be a good thing. Real bread without additives will only really be fresh for a day or two. Or they may have reduced the fat content – higher fat levels lead to longer shelf life. Those are the two that spring to mind.

        I’ve done plenty of chillies over the last five years, the last couple of years a good two hundred plants – but never capsicums in any big quantities.
        
        Yeah, here in Auckland the temps have been variable over the last month or two – but the capsicums are a good two feet tall now and flowering, so off to a reasonable start so far.

      Many decades ago, hubby mowed over a young Passionfruit and a rare native shrub I had raised from seed…. When I pointed this out to him, he demanded to know what they looked like… so I went into a detailed description… until he stopped me and said.. what colour were they?
      
      He didn’t mow lawns for the next 30 years..
      being unable to discern the difference between 3cm high grass and a 30cm shrub or a vine was a risk I wasn’t willing to take.

Unfortunately, for Theresa May, she may be forced to stand down as Leader of the Conservative Party following the delivery of the 48 letters that will trigger a leaders vote.
The two scenarios are, she will lose the vote, or secondly, win by a small margin whereby she may decide to resign anyway.
She is in a very difficult position regarding the Brexit deal, the EU leadership have said they won’t renegotiate a new deal, and secondly, her own party won’t support her following her decision to defer the vote. So, in reality, her flying visit to Europe was really a farewell tour.

  Weeell, he is a social justice campaigner, advocate, and mental health counsellor so not surprising he knows other socially conscious people.
