The media are claiming that Biden has won the presidency with no fact behind it. AFAIK Trump is still the president and Biden hasn’t won. They don’t get to declare that Biden won because it makes them feel better. The election in 2000 took 36 days to decide and went all the way to the Supreme Court. Totally irresponsible.

I haven’t seen any official results reported, or a concession by Trump. The media have just decided on their own to crown Joe as winner.

“We all know why Joe Biden is rushing to falsely pose as the winner, and why his media allies are trying so hard to help him: they don’t want the truth to be exposed.

The simple fact is this election is far from over.

Joe Biden has not been certified as the winner of any states, let alone any of the highly contested states headed for mandatory recounts, or states where our campaign has valid and legitimate legal challenges that could determine the ultimate victor.

In Pennsylvania, for example, our legal observers were not permitted meaningful access to watch the counting process. Legal votes decide who is president, not the news media.

Beginning Monday, our campaign will start prosecuting our case in court to ensure election laws are fully upheld and the rightful winner is seated. The American People are entitled to an honest election: that means counting all legal ballots, and not counting any illegal ballots. This is the only way to ensure the public has full confidence in our election.

It remains shocking that the Biden campaign refuses to agree with this basic principle and wants ballots counted even if they are fraudulent, manufactured, or cast by ineligible or deceased voters. Only a party engaged in wrongdoing would unlawfully keep observers out of the count room – and then fight in court to block their access.

  Why are people so afraid of an audit? We can easily draw an inference to answer that question. If all is legitimate and Biden won, then I cannot see any reason why scrutiny cannot be applied.
  
  It seems highly inconsistent to invoke Trump’s unevidenced “anti-democratic” tendencies for 4 years, then to resist and outright reject any suggestion whatsoever of a recount or other inquiry, which is evidence of his opponents own anti-democratic approach. As ever, words do not correspond to actions.

      Given the significance of the outcome, what harm would come from having a full audit involving both sides, regardless of how tight the margins are? Again, we can easily infer the answer to that. Questions have been raised, so let’s resolve them. There’s several months in which to do it. Wouldn’t it shut Trump and us “Trumpists” up?

        Besides last I checked you guys still have not conceded that Trump is the President of America, so I see no problem in doing so with Harris. ? You are just happy that you narrowly avoided a second butt whopping. I bet on election night you were wetting your diapers.
        
        I have come to turns with Labours win (Involving darts and a certain someone’s face. Kidding !) and happy to do so with Biden but only if I am certain that the claims have been dealt with (either proving true or as lies or rumors). If you can investigate Trump, we can do so with Biden. We want fairness and unity don’t we ?
        
        Last I checked stupidity came from not verifying anything and assume anything as fact. Not the other way round. Do you agree ?

“The reality of a recount swinging Northland back in my favour is beyond a tall order when looking at how recounts have gone in the past.

After sleeping on the election result published yesterday and consulting many friends and colleagues, I have come to the decision that I will not request a judicial recount.

I have called Willow Jean Prime and congratulated her on being elected as the MP for Northland.

  I called his office in Keri keri on Friday and passed on my condolences to Matts staff,as I know they will have lost their jobs.I have met Matt on several occassion ,in my opinion he is the best of a bad bunch.Non withstanding all that I am witness to something I never thought possible a labour MP in Northland electorate.What fun I have had with the local Tory farmers ,oh happy days .       3 Labour electorate MPs in Northland. 3 of the 10 2015 promised bridges have been completed. Apparently the Kaeo one will be starting construction by the end of this year. There are way more than 10 one-way bridges in Northland – the chosen ten were all on state highways.

Kelvin Davis hopes one day, the number of Māori in Cabinet and holding ministerial positions won’t be news.

But same in the same Newshub article –
Davis said he was “so proud” of Mahuta’s achievement, becoming not just the first woman but first Māori woman to hold the foreign affairs portfolio.

And elsewhere new Foreign Affairs Minister Nanaia Mahuta says –
“I think I can do [the job] in a different way. I think that we have the capacity now as a small nation to drive out different types of solutions – much of that is invested in our indigenous perspective and how we have been able to do things different domestically and take that out into the international forum”

And in the Guardian UK, writer Eleanor Ainge Roy in Queenstown –
“It’s satisfying to be given the opportunity to serve in a way we can lift the glass ceiling, in offices that have often not been open to women,” Mahuta says.
“And importantly blaze a trail that can be different and unique, and carve out a real sense of opportunity as a country, but also for Indigenous people … So that’s what I am going to do.”

Don’t they stop ever to realise that the “mature, just ordinary representation” bullshit actually cancels out the “special indigenous perspective” bullshit – unless they actually get on with something and prove a special contribution to be the case.

Maori in Labour still have to break the pattern that the rest of Labour suffers from – that achievements need to be in actions, not just meaningless words and slogans and bumper-sticker statements.

I remember when

Te Kawerau a Maki has bought four Auckland schools for $50-60 million.
Ministry of Education leases back in perpetuity, paying rent to the iwi, who use half the money to pay back the loan.
Let’s call it $60 million, divided by 30, equals $2 million a year, multiplied by 2 equals $4 million per year.
So rent paid by each school is about $1,000,000 per year.
At the end of30 years the iwi have $60 million in funds.
What could you buy from Fletchers if you had that sort of money?

    The loan is from ACC (Accident Compensation Corporation) so from worker levies. Does this allow other iwi who also claim the tribal area of Papakura to Mangawhai to use the same system for their right-to-purchase treaty settlement deals?
    Gives ACC a 30 year income stream but probably no protection if loan defaulted.

What will the Opposition’s priorities be now?

While National is smaller, ACT is bigger so between them they have an opportunity to do some detailed analysis and come up with a few headline items. National already did a fair bit of policy consultation while in government and should not need to repeat that.

My suggestions for headline policy –

1. Get out of the way! Have a definite list of what and how.
2. No more wasteful spending of your taxes. Another definite list.

Remember the Loopy Rules review? That was a great idea but a bit of a fizzer in terms of outcomes, but need not have been. Re-read submissions. Then there was a proposal to cancel 2 regulations for each new one. But cancel what? Who knew?

And the Opposition now has time to do a line by line review of Votes and decide what stays and what doesn’t.

And tell the voters hard, early and often.

    Social media for one avenue. Activate the ‘army’ for another.
    
    That army is the supporters and volunteers current and future. Set up some small and bounded tasks and activities for volunteers, nationally or locally. Like for example – this month forward a tweet or FB post they like to a couple of people. Letterbox drop in their street. Keep track of who has been allocated what, though not in a big bro way. Offer incentives like local focus group participation with pay or lunch.
    
    When I was a playcentre parent it was hard to get parents to put their hand up. Because they could see if they did that more and more requests would be coming their way, whether they had the skills or not, and they would be overwhelmed and not know how to say no.
    
    So we did the small, bounded tasks thing, one at a time. Some took on more, some didn’t but the process was managed (more or less). And every completion was publicly thanked, probably the most powerful thing.

    Software is really easy to jank with and almost impossible to audit.
    
    1) Even with open source you can’t guarantee that what was open sources is what was run on the day.

        Postal votes are lower tech and thus easier to interfere with by lower skill people. Destroying votes is easy (just steal and burn). Creating new ones (or modifying them) is relatively difficult.
        
        Software tampering needs some tech savvy but is easier to hide. Votes can easily be created out of nothing and modified.

Trump has been saying Covid has turned a corner but they have just had a day with 125,000 new cases (daily max about 70k in the July surge) and 1,248 daily deaths. And the projections are that it will get worse. There must be risk of overwhelming the hospitals, which is when Covid gets a lot worse

The Trump regime is going to be missing in action in this space for over two more months. Biden is going to inherit something pretty awful.

The burn is bad. It is long. It is harsh on body and mind. You will look at your pill cabinet and consider what might work for the pain. The alcohol cabinet will also act as a magnet. It’s just too bad these balms are fleeting (unless final).

At some stage you will realise you have gone a succession of moments without noticing any problem. This is bad. It will inevitably be followed by a realisation that you are not feeling what you should and you will slide into a deep howling agonised place where you hate yourself for not feeling worse. Enjoy. This is progress.

It won’t help in the least, but keep in touch knowing we are here for you. Your endless pain then is something we can all experience!

This line of argument is a great way for people who live in expensive areas to ensure that no new houses are built near them, since it is impossible to build a cheap home in an expensive area.

But it is not a valid economic argument. New build does not have to be affordable in itself, to improve housing affordability generally.

Consider. There are four houses for sale, and five people who want to buy houses. The richest buyer will buy the best of the four houses, the second richest the second best, etc; and the poorest buyer won’t be able to buy anything, because they will be outbid for the fourth best house by the fourth richest buyer.

Now add a fifth house for sale. It’s still the case that the richest buyer will buy the best house of the five, and the second richest buyer will buy the second best, etc – but now the poorest buyer will be able to buy the fifth best house.

This result is the same, whether the new house is more expensive, or less expensive, or middle of the range compared to the four original houses. Whether the fifth best house is the new house or the house that used to be the fourth best, the seller will have to adjust the price to one that the poorest buyer can pay.

There are various reasons to oppose the construction of new houses in your neighbourhood – amenity value, heritage, green spaces, impact on traffic and parking availability, etc. These are logical, consistent and coherent reasons.

Opposing it on the grounds that it will make housing in the area less affordable, however, makes no sense at all.

  currently there are old” boarding-house” flats and reconverted industrial buildings in Mt Vic that are just affordable for low-medium earners to rent.
  
  Nowadays Mt Vic is a very desirable location (N-facing, close to everything)… The new builds that will take over the grotty flats, grotty sites will be out of the price range of the low-waged.
  
  The low-waged will be forced to find rentals far beyond the city centre.

    When I arrived in Wellington in 1960, I lived in a 3br house in Newtown with 5 others. 2 to a bedroom. Cooking roster, cleaning roster. Mt Cook and Mt Vic had similar housing available.
    If you got married you moved out to the suburbs (nappy valley) when the first pregnancy happened. And tried to get on the property ladder.
    If you were really lucky you could get an old doer-upper in the city, flog it off in a year or two, and move up market, which is what we did. It took us 10 years, both working, to get a nice old villa in Lyall Bay, which suited us and our kids very well.

Unlike us, who complain if the run-up to the election is more than a couple of months, they are almost continuously subjected to party rhetoric.
Congress, the Senate, State Governor, nomination of Democratic/Republican Presidential candidate and finally President.
Covid daily reports are probably the nearest example we have had, and then in a relatively short timespan.
It’s no wonder their political views can become toxic.

They were ‘shocked and dumbfounded’ to hear about the sex attack. Obviously, that didn’t prevent them from offering the reference.

The voting machine software that caused a “glitch” updated the night before the election by the software company….

The election software that “glitched” in both Georgia and Michigan — which in Michigan’s case, incorrectly gave Joe Biden thousands of votes — is being used in 28 states, according to the software company’s website.

The software company, Dominion Voting Systems, “glitched” in Michigan, causing thousands of ballots that were meant for Republican candidates to be wrongly counted for Democrats in the state’s Antrim County. Antrim is also one of 47 counties in Michigan that uses the same software that experienced this “glitch.”

The presidential election results for Antrim County were later corrected, flipping the county from Joe Biden to President Donald Trump after the “glitch” was fixed.

Two Georgia counties — which use the same electronic voting software — also reported encountering glitches during the 2020 election, which caused their voting machines to crash.

A Georgia election official said that a technical glitch that halted voting in the state’s Spalding and Morgan counties was caused by a vendor uploading an update to their election machines the night before the election.

“That is something that they don’t ever do. I’ve never seen them update anything the day before the election,” said Marcia Ridley, elections supervisor at Spalding County Board of Election.

A third county in Georgia — Gwinnett County — which uses the same software, also experienced a glitch. This glitch, however, had caused the delay of counting thousands of votes in the 2020 presidential election.

Election officials estimate that roughly 80,000 absentee ballots were impacted by this glitch, yet decided to push the impacted votes through, knowing some of the votes would likely change.
