    Yes, and twice recently while delivering (reading) some prepared statements, Joe said that he was ready to answer questions, if that’s what he was expected to do. So his handlers immediately yanked him away and shut down any attempts to actually, you know, ask questions.
    
    They are trying very hard to protect him and maintain the narrative that he has more than one functioning brain cell, and partially succeeding because:
    
    1. The MSM continue to act as Democrat propaganda distributors and NOT as a “free” press. They have prepared questions they pretend to ask and they answers are pre packaged and read out. Yet they won’t even comment on how abnormal and strange that is. And –
    
    2. Most of Biden’s actual real supporters are two low info and stupid to realise that it’s not normal to hide the man away because he can’t maintain a thought long enough to answer non scripted questions. Mikey fits well into that demographic, but at some point, he’s going to pretend he knew all along and claim that it was a clever trick to elect an senile figurehead so someone so enormously unpopular that she couldn’t even get to the voting rounds of the Democrat runoff could succeed.

  They used to have a woman called Kylie McEnany who was brilliant. Kept everyone informed and was so on to it, so organised.

Is this a ethos of the Labour Party or is it just plain stupidity just like happened with Trevor Mallard our Speaker of the house of Parliament that ended up costing the Taxpayer over 350,000 dollars in a libel issue for opening his mouth instead of using his brain in another case that the Prime Minister also thought was not wrong.

    And the worst part of it is that adoring team of five million (ha!), will forget about this despicable act of bullying and lying and fall for the ‘feelz’ and fake empathy shit like they have before.
    
    I was just chatting to a young lady the other day (dental assistant during treatment) and all she could go on about was how wonderful Jacinda was and how lucky we were to have someone so empathetic and truthful in charge. When i pointed out the lies and the nastiness and the hypocrisy over this case there was the slightest flicker of doubt in her eyes before the programming re-asserted itself and she was back into ‘love Jacinda’ mode.
    
    Both terrifying and amazing to witness to be honest! The shine is still there apparently.

China’s trend from coal to natural gas is a main reason for a boom in the price of liquefied natural gas.

It’s importing so much that Japan, the world’s second biggest importer of LNG, can’t buy enough. Japan depends on LNG for about a third of its electricity generation. China imported 7.6 million metric tons of LNG in December, the Wall Street Journal reports.

This and what the newspaper calls an unusally cold winter, tripled LNG prices in January to a record $US32.50 per million British thermal units. China’s consumption of the fuel rose 11 per cent last year, compared with the world price rise of 1 per cent.

Jacinderella’s closing down exploration of New Zealand’s gas and oil resources was national economic self-harm. It was almost an economic crime.

  I work in Offshore oil and Gas Industry, Currently deploying seabed transponders and running into Yangon amongst other things.
  
  Had we drilled East Coast Sth Island , There was every chance of success.
  
  Unfortunately NZ is now recognised as Politically unstable and therefore too risky to invest. That will not come back !
  
  Go figure , Nigeria is accepted as stable amongst all West Africa for that matter.
  
  We will not survive without Hydrocarbons, More so in the interim.
  Just like importing high sulphur coal into NZ another “unintended consequence”
  
  This “sabotage” of the working economy will lead us ever more reliant on China for
  what little else we can produce.
  
  See my comments about Electric Vehicles and the problems they generate in other post. Alarm bells should be ringing.

    Even if there’s a coup tomorrow in Nigeria, the oil people won’t have to worry. All it means is that a different corrupt bastard will take the cut. The new corrupt bastard is not going to kill the goose that lays his golden eggs every morning.

      Good question Maggy. I know all parties have their nutters, but National have had an appalling run lately. The route into the party seems to be producing exceptional lightweights (Goldsmith – couldn’t even bloody count man!), troughers (Brownlee/Smith – time to go gents!), nutters (JLR – say no more) and the entitled nitwits (Gilmore – safe to say we all know who you are mate!). I know Labour/Greens can easily beat this collection of idiots (lawyer for war criminals takes the biscuit), but National really seem to have an issue with candidate selection over the last few years.
      
      The problem as I see it is that National sells itself on its brand as the party of business and managerial competence. It sets a high standard. Any deviation from that high standard tarnishes the brand.
      
      Be interesting to see if your comment gets some feedback from those in the know.

    Look, I am not and never will be Jacinda fan. I had the misfortune of meeting her when she was campaigning against Kaye way back. Not the sharpest tool shall we say – was actually quite shocked to be honest. Nothing since then has convinced me she is anything other than a lightweight (red ballon gimmick with the kids after the norwegian nut job an absolute shameless low in my opinion). However, she is the PM and it’s completely reasonable for her to be in Wellington.
    
    As for the Tamaki’s. On the one hand, they really do make it easy not to like them. Regardless of whether you are religious or not (and I am really not), you’d have to be a bloody fool to not see them for the charlatans they are. The Tesla snippet on Newstalk last week was a classic example of their shameless racketeering of their ‘flock’. However, as there was nothing in the rules stopping them from leaving Auckland on Saturday, and they are running a business, an unusual business but a business nonetheless, there was nothing wrong with them leaving Auckland. However, it’s hard not to smile at them getting it from the press a little, even if it’s a tad undeserved.

  Brian also claimed the very soil cries out because of sexual excesses based on Genesis 4:10 just failed to read “Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground” – ‘blood’ cries out, not ‘soil’ (and it is likely a metaphor any case). The other reference Brian had was an offending people to be spewed forth by the land (ie: an earthquake) but in fact they were evicted by men, with no earthquake involved, so Brian is the victim of another metaphor.

Incidentally the UK has achieved 99 percent vaccination coverage for the over 80s. Well done UK. Stark contrast with the EU where it is a shambles. Another apparant benefit of Brexit.

Ardern Says New Zealand Won’t Open Border to The World This Year

Her first hope – “being vaccinated means you don’t pass Covid-19 on to others” – does not seem to match reality: vaccination stops the individual from developing the virus further, but they may pass on a portion of anything contacted the her or him.

So Ardern says, “We need enough of our population to be vaccinated and protected that people can safely re-enter New Zealand”

Does this mean that at some point the population will be exposed in general, and those vaccinated will be protected (up to 90% or whatever the particular vaccine allows) and the people who decline the vaccination will depend on their age and underlying health to survive.

So at a certain level of vaccination will she allow un-isolated entry to New Zealand, and what is that vaccination level – since it seems there will a definite number (Hannah Tamaki among them) who will decline vaccination?

One assumes that before that happens there will be a comprehensive campaign (perhaps with a slogan to beat all slogans) pointing out the choice and chances those who decline vaccination are facing.

What are the moral considerations between declining a vaccination compared to the conditions, rights and protections involved in the End of Life Choice Act?

At what point will the Government be exposing everyone to the choice they have made?

    I completely apologise if I am wrong, but would point out the article you link to, print and audio, says “… may stop people passing on the virus “almost completely”, “… grounds for hope that vaccination may achieve the holy grail of halting community transmission” and ”If the hopes are fulfilled, it will be the most spectacular success yet for the British vaccination roll-out”.
    
    Meanwhile if you Google “Does covid vaccination stop virus transmission” you get chaos – but quite a number seem to suggest that while passing on infection may be reduced, it still occurs and distancing, hand-washing and masking are still advised for people who are vaccinated.
    The science does not appear “set’ on this yet.

All joking aside, transmission gully has been a total clusterfuck. NZTA – sorry, Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency (sigh), seem to have a real problem with delivery in the Wellington Region. NEMA is just another useless goverment millstone ,they failed to take the known threat at White Island and are facing court actions for the deaths of those people and yesterday they completely outrageously overreacted to a tsunami threat.
What happened to the much heralded tsunami early warning bouys that the NZ government installed all over the ocean to protect us? No,they just ordered everyone to higher ground for a couple of waves my 5 year old grandsons wouldn’t get their bodyboards out of the shed for, F–King useless twats.

  Every now and then a devastating tsunami eventuates from one of those monster earthquakes and barrels along at up to 800 kmh.
  So if the epicentre is 1000km away it doesn’t give you much time, does it. Even then by the time the scientists have figured things out on their slide rules it’s cutting it a bit fine.

  I’ve just watched that clip Maggie W posted of Ardern at her Friday standup and was wondering, why does she even need a deaf signer behind her? Ardern waves those mits of hers around so much, why doesn’t she just learn sign? That would save the daily cost of that poor person standing behind her. I mean, she throws te Reo around (and appears to pronounce it well), why doesn’t she take sign lessons AND whilst at it, ask someone to teach her how to pronounce English better (oops bedder) too??

I hear the book burning has begun here in Aotearoa. Word has it that oh so white and oh so privileged Wanaka is leading the way with a primary school removing copies of the books of that well-known racist Dr Seuss from its library shelves. Funny how as recently as 2018 the Obamas were proudly broadcasting the merits of having Dr Seuss books in the White House- how much they and their girls loved the author and his wonderful books. So much can change so quickly once the woke brigade and cancel culture start their bullying campaigns. Now even Biden dare not speak the name Dr Seuss. And this is only the start.

  I am far from being a lefty liberal, firmly in the centre / centre-right, but I’ve been watching the Seuss controversy for a few days now. It’s pretty clear there are some dodgy cartoons from his earlier career that clearly have racist overtones – one I saw wasn’t even subjective but bang out of order to be honest. Looking through his books now (still have a few around) there are the odd illustration or two that are not appropriate. The ‘slit eyed’ chinaman is a good example. I’m sure it was appropriate then, but not appropriate in this day and age. As I understand it some of his books have been pulled, not all.
  
  I know we on the right love to bemoan cancel culture. At times, it’s quite right and honourable to do so, and absolutely needed, but the Seuss outrage is a tad misplaced I think. Before jumping on the bandwagon, actually look at what the campaigners are saying is inappropriate, and take an honest look at the material. I did, and I found some of them questionable. To be clear, I am absolutely not saying he is a racist – his books are mostly wonderful. But the material is off a time and place, but looking at it honestly, I don’t think this is the ‘book burning cancel culture’ in full swing.

    The picture shows a Chinese youth wearing a distinctive hat seen in any number of Chinese historical dramas; wooden shoes which I associate more with traditional Japanese than Chinese, but don’t know enough about to have an opinion; chop sticks and a rice bowl, which you can find in any Chinese restaurant; and slit eyes, ie, the epicanthic fold which is particularly common in East Asians.

    The last Covid death here was a couple of weeks ago. Someone in MIQ had terminal cancer, suddenly worsened and was taken to hospital. While there, they tested positive for Covid, and the next day, Bloomfield announced it as a further Covid death.

  I agree lifesgood. We should go back to normal and monitor ICU capacity. If it gets to a pre-determined (and publically shared) percentage, then levels can increase until it reduces again. Pop in a few more ICU beds now to provide extra capacity (lefties seem to forget hospitals get to capacity in the normal flu seasons of old, and shock horror people die of the normal flu). Everyone gets on with living and out of this controlled prison like dictatorship.

    Personally I, and my wife for that matter, went the entire year without a cold. Last thing we wanted to do was be subjected to one of those covid-19 tests.

    Maggy, around the middle of last year, for me the $64 thousand question was, have we been good or have we been lucky? I firmly believe we’ve been mostly lucky. So far our luck is holding and the government continue to take the credit for managing this well. Sooner or later their luck will run out – it always does – I don’t want it too, but it will. I just hope that when their luck does run out and a major outbreak happens, we have a good number vaccinated to lessen the impact.

Labour needs to change its ‘comms strategy’ for natural disasters (eg yesterday’s earthquake/tsunami threat).

People and families had evacuated to higher ground due to official messaging that there were potential tsunami threats at certain times.

Yesterday afternoon (around 1.30pm) civil defence Minister Kiri Allen’s press conference was carried live by the MSM outlets to update the population on the tsunami threats.

What would be the most important information that those who evacuated wanted to hear?

It would have been whether the tsunami threat was over (or whether to stay put because it wasn’t).

Unfortunately Minister Kiri Allen spent several minutes initially telling everyone how wonderful they had been (for listening to the official messaging) and continuously thanked people and officials for their hard work they had done to ensure everyone’s safety.

So then several minutes later Minister Allen finally gave the update that the anxious evacuee’s wanted to hear about the tsunami threat (the threat was over – people could return home).

Not good enough, Labour!

It was a carbon copy of Ardern’s covid press conferences in which she waffles (and self aggrandizes) unnecessarily for 8-10 minutes before getting to the point. Kiri Allen pretty much did the same. Which suggests, at best, Labour are so ‘scripted’ that they follow the same ‘comms strategy’ even when it is clearly the ‘wrong one’ for the occasion. Or worse, it suggests Labour are incapable of differentiating that the situation has changed and therefore a different strategy is required, and that they are completely out of touch with the real world.

Early last week (or so) Des Gorman said that this approach is wrong (in relation to Labour’s covid press conferences and messaging) i.e. the most important information needs to be said first (then the waffly bits can follow). Unfortunately Labour seems to be tone death and not capable of absorbing what Des Gorman was saying.

Perhaps this is ‘less’ of an issue when it comes to covid updates (i.e. thinks Labour), but when it comes to civil defence emergencies then government messaging becomes critical because peoples actual lives (and what actions they take) depend upon it.

  I agree with you – but we also see this in the media. 6th form English had a journalism topic. I distinctly remember our English teacher saying a newspaper article is distinct from other forms of writing in that the first paragraph contains all the most important, key information, then the next paragraph had a bit more detail, and so on down to the final paragraphs which were the real nitty gritty for people who wanted all the detail on that particular topic. People who wanted only a general overview could read the first 1-2 paragraphs and have a good overview of the whole article.
  These days the leading paragraph of an article is more like narrative writing eg the top article on the Herald’s website right at this minute opening paragraph is ” “Bugger it” were the Prime Minister’s first thoughts when she was jolted awake by an earthquake on the same day she would decide whether Auckland’s Covid outbreak was contained and the city could come out of lockdown.” That’s an opening paragraph better suited to a novel than a newspaper article.
  Or the next article, opening sentence “Ashleigh Wyse is among Kiwis hugging their loved ones tighter today after thousands evacuated homes across the country amid fears waves would hit coastal towns and cities.”
  Yesterday’s Covid conference waffling about a phone call with the French President – that smacked of “look how important I am, I spoke to the President of France”, when all we wanted to hear was which events/business activities do we have to cancel, and which ones can we confirm as able to proceed. I had to cancel 3 events last week, and I have 2 this coming week. I don’t care about a phone call with the French President, which added nothing to the topic of our lockdown. I thought she was leading into a statement such as “France is giving us more vaccines” or “France has discovered a cure”… but no, it just was irrelevant to the topic at hand.

  I commented weeks ago that the actual critical announcements are buried too far down, especially around Covid. There’s been an invention of a new language a bit like the “but wait, there’s more.”
  NZ has literally been in the trenches or somewhere near them for a year. I appreciate hearing new information, But I’m getting the impression the leadership group is getting lost in its own speak and it festers impatience for those with other things to do.
  I see signs that they are getting the message that the endless thankyous are starting to sound like meaningless platitudes if they are overdone, time and again.

I see the “one source of truth” phrase is looming large out of Labour again today after National MPs dared question them and failed to pull in the direction of the “team of 5 million”. Naturally that scares the crap out of me but even if it were to be in any way justified surely it would require Labour to not politicise or game their Covid messaging one little bit? Not being able to have it both ways and all that….hard for them to argue that I’d say given it takes Jacinda at least 10 minutes into her presser to tell us the only thing we’ve tuned it to hear. And prior to that we get gratuitous references to her comms with the French president and lame texts she shared with her Ministers after the earthquake etc. My prediction is that Ardern is going to go down in history with Muldoon as an egotistical control freak, it’s just gonna take a painfully slow time for it to all play out….

  For example, get a tooth infection and it is very likely to cause some heart damage.
  
  Flu has huge side effects on everything from brain function to organ damage.

I’ve just been for a drive around Auckland’s waterfront. Seems the people of this fair city are giving Jacinda and co the two fingered salute. I have never seen the beaches and shopping centres so crowded on a Saturday. As far as everyone’s concerned this stupid lockdown is over, The place is pumping.

New Zealand-born criminals deported “home” from Australia have been a nuisance.

Could they soon be added to by deportees from Britain? This is from The Times:

Priti Patel, the home secretary, is considering making it easier to deport offenders who are given short sentences as part of the forthcoming Sovereign Borders Bill.

At present, only foreign criminals given a 12-month sentence or over are eligible for deportation but that could be shortened to six months under the changes being considered.

The Sovereign Borders Bill will also place curbs on “litigious” human rights claimants who seek to delay their deportation.

The Telegraph raises the question of whether a stalwart writer for the Guardian earlier in his career could have fed suppressed security information to the IRA during a bombing campaign in Britain.

Roy Greenslade was a Guardian writer for 30 years, and the Telegraph says he frequently berated other journalists for perceived ethical misdeeds.

Writing in the British Journalism Review, Greenslade, earlier the editor of the Daily Mirror, says he is “pleased to come out from hiding” over the affinity he has held to the Irish republican cause since the 1970s.

Greenslade in 2013 paid for the bail of John Downey, who the High Court would later rule was responsible for the 1982 bombing in Hyde Park which killed four British soldiers.

Greenslade was an assistant editor at the Murdoch tabloid, The Sun, at the time of the bombing, and the Telegraph says he still held the position when the IRA attempted to assassinate the top tier of British government in the 1984 Brighton bombing.

The Telegraph writes:

” … the journalists who worked under Greenslade are now concerned that he may have been guilty of far worse than hypocrisy. Instead, they say his admissions raise serious questions about whether intelligence on IRA activities may have found its way to the Republican leadership. Others say Greenslade would have been privy to Government briefings while editing the Daily Mirror in the early 1990s.
