Honesty has not been a focus for those that pride themselves that our Government and the media set good standards, both have no problems at making Judith Collins accountable on just about every smear they throw at her but when it comes down to what I would call corrupt practice it’s never Labours doing . Take Dr Ashley Bloomfield and the punishment handed down to him over lying about who and why the UN Staff member got to New Zealand when Hospital Clinical Staff were against it, now we know Helen Clark and now Dr Ashley Bloomfield were involved and we also know Dr Ashley Bloomfield misled Parliament over this but the punishment he has received doesn’t fit the crime or expose the many that were involved.
Jacinda Ardern our Prime Minister , Andrew Little our Health Minister are all donkey deep in this charade of lies and the punishment dish out is like the saying goes slapped with a wet bus ticket dispite being caught out before at least three further times and having to apologize to Parliament then.
Labour have history in deceiving Parliament , remember slavegate and Matt McCarten, which Andrew Little was involved, again slapped with a wet bus ticket and let off.

Well, this is going to upset a lot of Americans. Buried in the monolith that is Joe Bidens infrastructure cockup, is a provision to investigate charging drivers for every mile they complete. A toll tax for driving. Presumably Biden will want to tax EVs as well.

  Seriously, no polly in their right mind could resist the temptation to introduce EVs to a Road User Charge and an additional charge on electricity for plugged-in EVs. How else are we going to finance roads, upkeep and vanity projects like Mallard’s Play Ground etc?
  Of course, if questioned they will deny any such intentions but we all know what liars they are!
  And please don’t forget local Mayors (like Phil Goff) will also want to clip the ticket and include an extra tax on electricity to pay for his vanity projects and to pay off his Council’s debt just like his 10c per litre of fuel charge in Akld.

Tomorrow the first stage of the IPCC’s AR6 report on the climate will be released. It is seven years since the last one. Already there is breathless, excitement at how much more extravagant the language can be and who can produce the most newsworthy quote to get their name up in lights. Predictions on what will be announced are being carried by major publications and of course they are all negative and frightening.

There is one annoying fly in their ointment. Todays average global temperature according to Hadcrut5 is exactly the same as it was seven years ago when AR5 was released.

    I mean how is it possible that all the scientists are that far off?

      Every scientist knows that if your model doesn’t fit the collected data, then you throw out the model/or revamp the model to take into account some wrong assumptions, or missing variables.
      
      You don’t persist with crappy models…. they are useful only up to the point that they are telling you that you have not understood your system very well.
      
      The best thing the IPCC could do is discard all the models with the exception of the one that seems to run the least hot and try refining that model.
      
      And for years the IPCC has known that it is only the Russian Climate model – now running as INM-CM5-
      that has any semblance to reality.
      
      It’s high time that the scientific community come clean about longstanding climate shenanigans. Averaging up a large number of models that don’t work well is guaranteed to produce an unreliable forecast. Using ones that get things right, like the two Russian models, is accepted best‐practice in weather forecasting.

        Sure, they aren’t perfect but nothing is.
        At least they’re trying and doing something and that has got to be better than doing nothing.
        
        More seriously, science is heavily politicised with many vested interests. This is nothing new, but has certainly got worse over the years. You won’t get a job in academia or NIWA or such if you ask embarrassing questions.
        
        No doubt the same applies in sociology and MoH, MoE etc too. Asking embarrassing questions, eg. challenging the colonialism narrative, or point out inconsistencies are career limiting.
        
        The same applies in the press too. Asking probing questions would get you stripped of the science reporter or crime reporter or whatever role pretty quickly.

  I used to think AGW was probably true but greatly exaggerated by those wanting to whip up public anxiety about it.
  
  I still think that is the case to an extent.
  
  But I had an “aha” moment when we went to Mount Cook and went out on the glacial lake to see the Tasman glacier.
  
  The incredibly vast amount of ice that has disappeared since 1970 is truly staggering. There are crumbling rock walls on either side about 150 metres high stretching back for several kilometres where the glacier used to reach, with the lake probably a kilometre or more across. People I know who have seen some of the other glaciers report similar experiences.
  
  According to our guide some of the ice loss was due to natural warming since the last ice age 16000 years ago, and some due to recent AGW.
  
  It was immediately obvious to me that if the ice had been disappearing at that rate since the last ice age then the glacier would have vanished thousands of years ago.
  
  So, to me, there is no doubt that warming has been happening at an increasing rate over recent history.
  
  It is at least a coinicidence that this has occurred in association with increasing carbon emissions. It is a matter of scientific debate as to whether human activity is a cause of the warming or just coincidental to it. But I have no doubt that it is happening.

      Go to Google Earth and look at the east side of the terminal lake. You will see where a big slip came off the mountain and blocked the Murchison River and directed it into the lake. This happened in the early ’90’s and with the warmer water has rapidly melted the ice and doubled the size of the lake.
      
      I used to say to the DOC guys that they should get a digger up there for a few days and put the river back on course behind the lateral moraine so it wouldn’t melt the glacier.
      
      Nature had to take it’s course was the answer!

    Tony, All NZ High country has in some point in time been “Carved” by Glaciers, Even Mt Egmont ( Taranaki).
    If you want to take that argument then look no further than Antarctica and fossilised trees etc.
    The reality the Earth has been changing Climates for Millenia, Ask yourself this? Why would you build castles in UK during 12-1300’s because sure as shit they are bloody cold now.

Just came across this great quote on another site.
Carl Sagan said “science is not a body of knowledge, it is the skeptical interrogation of the universe.”
So when stuffed says that the science is settled on climate change, they have stopped asking questions not only of the universe, but anyone who is still doing so and come up with theories that don’t fit stuffed’s pre-determined narrative.
If Sagan was still alive, I wonder what he would have said about Maori science? Probably nothing that stuffed would want to publish.

When I took my pre-flight COVID test in the US before returning to NZ it was free, and self-administered at a drive-through window at a pharmacy. The guy hands you the kit, watches you stick the swab up your own nose, seal in the provided bag, and drop the bag in the slot. Results emailed back within 48 hours. Simple, convenient, and painless.

Exact same test in New Zealand. The appointment is $200 (and $20 due if you cancel). Test administered by a nurse, who (if they’re like the ones in MIQ) seem to feel its necessary to ram the swab painfully into your skull. And then you have to physically come back to collect a printed result. Just ridiculous.

  I’d heard it was uncomfortable, but compared to too much wasabi on a sushi it was nothing.
  No money changed hands.
  I expect your particular test was a requirement to travel out of the country for your own benefit.

        If I came home for a holiday I paid.

Driven by the adverse effects litter has on wildlife they don’t want birds or sea life to die from consuming litter.
Brendon said he enjoyed everything about picking up rubbish.
Once he found a string of plastic. He was not happy.
“A bird could have eaten it and it would have died.”
Brendon said if he saw someone throwing rubbish out of their car window, he would tell the ‘litter critter’ to go pick it up.
The trio were awarded the ‘Keep New Zealand Beautiful, Tidy Kiwi Volunteers of the Month Award.’
Recreational Services donated them cleaning gear to help in their quest.

When approached for comment, PM Jacinda Ardern told reporters…. “she had no idea”, and referred any further enquiries to ex UNDP Administrator Helen Clark.

At time of writing, Ms Clark has still not returned our calls.

  I Disagree Andrew. IMO we desperately need a tunnel but it must be forward-thinking enough to cater for rail. (1 track each way) road, (at least 4 lanes each way) and possibly a cyclist facility.
  Of course, if you live outside Akld Andrew you won’t see the necessity.

    $15,000,000,000.00 is a lot of infrastructure for a small two island nation. That’s $500 million in each of 30 cities or towns outside of Auckland!
    
    The tunnel isn’t value for money as councils could upgrade infrastructure for further housing, business, recreation, education, healthcare…. where immigrants would then move to…….and if COUPLES EACH HAVE the right skills…. nursing, teaching, building….. and including English.
    
    Auckland isn’t the main thing that sells NZ, and property speculation isn’t an occupation on any category list to get residence or citizenship; bring needed skills and then you get to speculate.

Teen in Leipzig sets up an online drug trading business and trades for over a year making millions before he is arrested. He is assessed as being immature, so is treated as a juvenile.

I say a criminal’s mind because they are clearly not all wired the same. Most are low intelligence, but this bloke isn’t.He’s massively arrogant and shows zero remorse for any actions.

It is also interesting to see how the cops think he is going to re-offend while the very woke corrections people think it was a once-off.

The whole project cost over $500,000!

But it was the landscaping costs that caught my eye.

These are costs that would be familiar to the average Kiwi DIY landscaper for their own properties.

Here are the AC’s costs of doing some basic stuff:

“Wooden pot plant holders also cost $18,128, concrete pipe planters $51,557, bollards $17,000 and decking $31,610”.

Now does that not seem outrageous?

Why do Council projects cost this much?

Think … rip offs-cosy deals … back-handers- corruption … bureaucracy ….

Of the concrete or “expanding grout” poured down the slimline shaft, does an excess of that at the bottom now cover possible human remains in the fresh air base (straight below the shaft) and has it spilled over the just-adjacent west end of the inner roof fall, to hinder access to the main fan?
Neither Little or the Families mention this possible obstacle. Nor Winston.

  To answer to the best of my knowledge . The board was involved maybe too deeply in policy ,candidate selection as well as their core business of fund raising and internal organisation. I have heard it directly from Goodfellows own lips that that is changing. He is leaving policy to the caucus and membership, candidate selection more to the electorates and will concentrate on what he is best at, fundraising.

Be fair Wired-one many on here were calling for the coup that got rid of Simon Bridges to help the media and started the rot for National because every one went on to leak stories to the media, if they had closed down those that backed Jamie Lee Ross in first instance and cut down Tova O’Brien who was doing all the dirty work for our Fairy Princess and Winston Peter’s we would have still had a reasonable chance of not losing the ground we did. Labour was always going to win the election after all the tragedy and then Covid-19 because stupid people thought they needed our Pime Minister to save them, then the money printing convinced them.
It was absolutely stupid politics by Todd Muller and Nicky Kaye to tell Paula Bennett and others they weren’t needed in Cabinet and would better with a new job, and you can see now why Judith Collins needs to stay as Leader of National as we need a united National party to fix the mess that the Muller team of bigots left them.
If it was not for the media Labour would be languishing in the polls , so it’s not all their fault , but the infighting hasn’t helped.

At least our runners in the Olympic Marathon managed to struggle to the finish.
The effects of the temperature and humidity were perhaps best demonstrated for us by Zane Robertson collapsing and being chaired to medical help.
After years spent training and living in Kenyan conditions he would have been better conditioned than most, apart from the Africans themselves.
Even slight satisfaction with Malcolm Hicks, although way down the list, finishing ahead of an Australian.

If any Young Nats are reading this, The National Party objected to the possibility of parents being sent to jail for not assisting their children with puberty blockers. Labour have refused to guarantee an exemption for parents. The Labour controlled media are twisting this with a story line just focusing on gay conversion. National have been 100% correct in not backing this legislation at first reading. We have an extremist Government with a majority and I will be interested if ACT’s claims are true that they will change this Bill down the track.

In the Left-wing NZ Herald, political reporter Trevett interviews John Key.

Trevett salts the report by stating that Judith Collins has been accused [no mention of by whom] of going off message by talking about issues such as race, and hate- speech laws.

When the subsidised, Left-leaning media say Collins is getting something wrong you have to suspect this confirms she’s doing something right.

On what National should be doing, Key states the mundanely obvious:

“There is only one way to win back support, and that is to have shape internally and to make sure you are consistently arguing the issues that matter to New Zealand.”

And Key’s suggestions of these issues: ” … one of them is the complete failure of the MIQ system and the slowness of the rollout. The second is going to be cost of living increases.”

Any Aussie-type outburst of Covid-19 in NZ would slam Labour like a political torpedo, and voters won’t swallow that the Reserve Bank alone is the cause of emerging inflation.

However, Key’s failure to change the national flag likely colours his view on the significance of the “Aotearoa” campaign led by State Radio, State TV, and State subsidised newspapers.

Collins’s suggestion of a referendum on the country’s name may rile Key, given his reported regrets for holding a referendum on the national flag instead of just changing it.

We NZers always expect a lot from our olympians and they have sure delivered. It was an amazing result. I have just looked up the medal count per capita of each country. We came in 4th! 4th! That’s amazing, beaten only by San Marino who sent 5 athletes and won 3 medals, Bermuda and Grenada. Per capita the UK came in 24th, Japan 46th, USA 55th and China 73rd. We should be very proud of our wonderful athletes.

I have tried to make a point at several National Party meetings that has been highlighted in the Leader saying the “Caucus” is United. I am sorry but that is largely irrelevant. She needs to have the membership united and from what I hear they want change at the top. When will the party realize what John Key so clearly showed, that it’s not the caucus you need to lead, nor just the membership but the majority of voters need to follow you. Until we see a leader of Nation@l do that then the only hope is for Labour to stuff up so badly they get voted out.
