Just following up on my post before Xmas comparing the safety of the Influenza vaccine to the Covid Pfizer vaccine in New Zealand (https://www.kiwiblog.co.nz/2021/12/general_debate_23_december_2021.html#comment-3090812).

Again, from Table 1 on the following MedSafe page we can see adverse events being reported for the Influenza vaccine at 16-20 per 100,000 doses:

Taking 2019 data, we have 16.9 adverse events per 100,000, of which it’s stated 2.6% were considered ‘serious’, which is 0.44 per 100,000.

Now we have a new Medsafe safety report on the Pfizer vaccine:

45,984 adverse events out of 8,184,892 doses administered, which is 562 per 100,000 doses. 2,015 of these are considered ‘serious’ (4.4%), which equates to 24.6 per 100,000 doses.

So your chances of a serious adverse event are:

Influenza Vaccine: 0.44 per 100,000 doses
Pfizer Covid Vaccine: 24.6 per 100,000 doses

This makes the Pfizer vaccine 56x more dangerous than the Influenza vaccine. It’s actually much worse than that, because you are exposing yourself to risk twice with the initial double-vaccination, and now with every booster.

More concerning is that the rate of serious adverse events reported seems to be increasing. In my last post my calculations were based on the previous Medsafe report:

The result then was 21.4 serious adverse events per 100,000. Now it’s shot up to 24.6!

So what was reported between 4 December and 31 December? Working out the differences in reports #38 and #39 I find 364 serious adverse events reported and 458,573 doses, which is a rate of 79 per 100,000!

Admittedly, this is probably largely due to the delay in adverse events being reported. Another factor could be that the second jab is a higher risk, which I’ve seen in other sources to be the case. But either way, the safety of the Pfizer Covid vaccine is looking worse and worse as time goes on compared to our traditional annual flu vaccine.

  Flippancy aside, thank you for posting this sensible and revealing analysis. Add in the fact that even the Pfizer CEO admits the vaccine and booster are ineffective against Omicron and the “vaccines are our best protection against becoming seriously ill, hospitalised or dead” BS narrative is exposed for being exactly that – BS.

  Good analysis of the official Medsafe data that I’ve been tracking (particularly for myocarditis) for many weeks now. Medsafe’s own data show an significant incremental (potentially exponential) increase in myocarditis reports (exceeding Medsafe’s reported typical data per 1M vaccinations, that keeps increasing as time goes by) that demonstrate an incredulous acceptance of what should typically be considered a safety signal. I’m particularly looking forward to the release of report #40

There apparently is a “plan”
The plan‘s designed to slow the spread as we get ready for Omicron, but there’s concern the plan will quickly become unworkable. – perhaps faster than the article indicates –
New rules, introduced on Friday, mean positive cases must isolate for at least 14 days, including 72 hours symptom-free.
However, household members need to be in isolation for an additional 10 days after the positive case has been cleared
That means household contacts will have to isolate for at least 24 days or three and a half weeks, which is longer than the actual case themselves.

What the above numbers do not allow for, but features in Health reports so far in many delta cases and omicron already, is that most household members will inevitably catch the virus from the first person, with her or him then becoming a contact of the newly infected family member, and with a new time frame for all of the family or flatmates, whatever, starting from the time of that new infection, which could add an extra 24 days from the time any other family member newly contracts the virus – right?

And while the article doesn’t miss the irony – That means household contacts will have to isolate for at least 24 days or three and a half weeks, which is longer than the actual case themselves – the greater irony would appear to be that the first “actual case themselves” most likely will become a close contact themself and be required to isolate ten days after any family member, who the first case infects, has done their 14 days, at least – also right?

The prime minister has warned New Zealanders to prepare what they might need if they get Omicron and have to isolate or become unwell.New Zealand authorities are encouraging people to have enough supplies to last them a week or two.

In other words, for the extra ten days, plus very likely “whatever” more, “Let them eat cake”

So apart from supplies, what will this period of ‘isolation’ do for family violence, children, substance abuse – particularly alcohol, stigma, family income, or mental wellbeing – or not so wellbeing?
What’s the plan, or is there really nothing like after the last time Ardern said “Lets do this”

  The Podium of Truth admitted as much this morning when she said that the plan for Omicron is basically the same as the one for Delta (which was poorly-formed, ill-thought-through, and late).

  International evidence is stacking up that the Pfizer vacinne doesn’t work against Omicron. So why are the opposition leaders promoting boosters. Mandates for boosters are rolling into law at the moment. We will continue to exclude those without a vacinne pass from working in our healthcare system – just when the system will be overwhelmed by Omicron. Surely a good Opposition leader could be exposing the ridiculousness of this!

  This has been running for a few days, yet despite the fact that multiple supporters “filmed Seymour yelling at Hannah Tamaki” there is no footage anywhere, it seems.
  
  Without evidence this looks like a shabby and amateurish hit-job, and is starting to stink to high heaven (pun intended). The article linked to, uses terms such as: “political prosecution” and “a classic example of political staging” – I tend to agree, but not in the way the author and shill promoting it perhaps intend.

    Loddenthinks – I agree the article is emotive and am not taking all of the authors view as factual. But Seymour clearly was there talking to those in the vigil. Also it is clear he wasn’t supportive of their cause. He is very adept at social media. Wouldn’t you expect him to have a position on a citizen being locked up for breaching bail conditions for protesting against the government?

        Fair enough that you are waiting for more information. To be clear I would love for both Seymour and Luxon to be taking things hard to Labour. From my perspective the mandates have been around for a long time: MIQ workers, teachers, health workers, who refused to comply have lost their jobs. That’s real impacts on real people. I’m disillusioned with the majority of our parliamentarians who have chosen to let these vulnerable people be picked off by this government. We need leadership from Seymour and Luxon but instead they have both been promoting the current government position. Harete Hipango got sanctioned for supporting protestors opposing mandates.
        
        Meanwhile a man is imprisoned, for 10 days, for speaking out against the government and thus breaching his bail conditions. To date from Luxon and Seymour …. crickets. Politically smart to avoid association with an unlikeable minority leader. But morally bankrupt for allowing just another breach of our rights go by without challenge.
        
        Forgive my frustration but I think they have both had plenty of time to make their positions clear!

  Prominent Covid commentators Drs Siouxsie Wiles and Shaun Hendy assert that mātauranga Māori is a valuable and unique system of knowledge that is complementary to science and warrants inclusion in the NCEA syllabus as being equal to science, but let them take a moment off commenting on covid (which is now perhaps a worry in their support of mātauranga Māori context) and give one example of Māori science.
  Give one example of Māori discovered science.
  
  Elsewhere there are – values like whanaungatanga, kaitiakitanga and manaakitanga – the power of being connected to each other, having an ethic of care, respect in the way we progress, and taking care of things for ourselves and our mokopuna [the generally trashed Climate Change Commission Report, 2021]
  As seen here these values, once the words are translated, have non-Maori equivalents and are not at all unique.
  So in this sense too, left any example Drs Siouxsie Wiles and Shaun Hendy can give of Maori science be something that expands scientific knowledge further than what is already known.
  
  What exactly makes mātauranga Māori a valuable and unique system of knowledge?

In the Herald yesterday a sad story of a family of 8 that has applied for hundreds of rentals in Hawke’s Bay since early 2021 and been rejected for all of them. They look like nice people dealing with difficult health issues. But to be rejected hundreds of times in less than a year? What else is going on?

Suggest several things. Few private rentals in the area, most well beyond the family’s budget. 37 HB vacancies listed on Trademe today, 3 bedrooms and up. Only 16 with 4 bedrooms or more. So a supply issue and an affordability issue.

There is also a risk issue. For landlords. Due significantly to the government’s 2021 policies that make it difficult if not impossible to terminate problem tenancies and recover costs. Not saying the family in the article would be a problem, but they would not be top of the no-risk list.

Not to worry. Help is on the way.

  No doubt these Maori Vaccinators will demand wages and koha beyond that currently paid to non-Maori vaccinators because Maori Science, Technology and Tradition is involved in the job.

    Rawiri Taonui is professor of Maori and Indigenous Studies at Massey University, and head of its School of Maori Art, Knowledge and Education.
    
    Taonui has a PhD but his discipline isn’t medicine.
    
    He studied at Auckland University. His MA thesis was on Polynesian origins, migrations an navigation, and his PhD thesis (English-language) title was Dynamics in Maori Oral Tradition.
    
    Earlier in his career, Taonui had a somewhat controversial spell on the staff at Canterbury University.

  The news story is slightly more equivocal on this point than its headline.
  
  As someone whose six family doctors over seven decades have included four different ethnic groups ranging from black to white, and whose two overseas in-patient hospital experiences were in places where I appeared to be the only mother-tongue English speaker among patients and staff, I find this obsession with matching ethnicity somewhat bizarre.

There’s an interesting article on Stuff this morning by Damian Grant re the Tamaki case and what he terms illiberal democracy. Thought provoking. You might not agree with the details – he compares apples and oranges to a degree – but in principle I think he’s spot on. It has made me think. Recommended.

    The protests led by Brian Tamaki have clearly been major health risks. With just 0 cases of Covid attributed to them. Compared to DJ dimension who actually went to public venues with COVID. No prosecution for him.
    
    In protesting against the loss of freedoms of association and movement imposed on all NZ’ers under the guise of health protection measures he was clearly in the wrong. But how else can he mount protest against an unjust government?
    
    Conversely how many months did Pania Newton and her group illegally occupy private land in Mangere in 2019? Just remind me what legal action was taken against Pania. No that’s right, nothing. Instead Pania was praised and nominated by the Herald for NZer of the year awards. She is a role model for breaking private property rights.
    
    The two crimes committed by Tamaki are:
    
    1. He has opposed the government and been highly critical of Jacinda.
    
    2. He is not liked by the majority of the NZ public.
    
    Neither of these warrant his incarceration. Come on people, we are better than this.

It is interesting that you learn so much from history. I have just had a look at the Spanish Flu. It lasted just over a year. Yes just one year.

It had four “waves” which we would probably have described as variants of which, the second was the deadliest and then it disappeared. Maybe Omicron will be the last variant or if there is another it will continue to be a weaker variant again.

The question therefore is “Why has this one lasted longer than a year?” Perhaps the answer is in our response and knowledge. We know what the effect is and we know how to minimise the contagion. The comparisons to make are between Sweden and NZ. They had it tough but did the right things from a Public Health perspective (and not Covid focused like we have) and are probably back to normal freedoms. We continue to be locked up in our little remote country.

Perhaps by locking ourselves up we have prevented the spread but also prevented the natural immunities the communities acquired during the Spanish Flu and certainly, now that we are vaccinated, it is time for us to open up and get on with our normal lives.

The Journal of the American Medical Association is a reputable peer-reviewed medical journal. It has articles discussing myocarditis following the Pfizer jab.

No one seems to be able say definitely the number of myocarditis cases and deaths caused by the jab but what is extremely serious is this statement….

” We do not know the specific mechanisms by which immunologic responses to mRNA-based COVID-19 vaccines could lead to myocarditis. Further investigation is critical and should be informed by the fact that most cases occurred following the second dose of a 2-dose series.”

In other words we are injecting millions of people with something we do not know enough about. Then read Professor Christof Kuhbandner’s findings and your day will be ruined. We, the sheeple are in dangerous hands.

As Stuff(ed)’s ‘Explainer in Chief’ perhaps you might like to investigate and explain why this cruel, incompetent and corrupt government led by the most divisive Prime Minister ever wont give an MIQ slot to the Peden family under an emergency exemption.

Someone needs to explain why and we can all bet that this government and MBIE won’t so it is up to the likes of you to do so. In years past, proper journalists would fall over themselves to chase this story. The likes of Edwards, Fraser, Holmes, Walker et al would not let a government get away with this cruel and uncaring behaviour. The Press, The Dominion and The Evening Post would have headlines screaming for heads to roll and wanting to know the why and who behind such decisions.

First time protestor. Went to the Auckland Freedom Protest yesterday as part of the Worldwide March for Freedom. It was reported on the news like this….. Wellington had 1,000ish people at the protest. They had loud motorbikes and no traffic control and it was annoying. Auckland also had a protest. (no details given) Brian Tamaki……

There was no mention of the thousands that showed up for the Auckland protest or that it was a peaceful protest (except for the loud motorbikes) and well organised with police traffic control.

What was surreal was that as we marched down Queen street, police were positioned on the church steps with a long telephoto lens camera taking pictures of the individual protesters.

Auckland fire stations are closing for lack of staffing.

Further to our notice of 9th January, career fire stations and fire trucks continue to face crisis levels of staffing, with several stations closed during the day due to a lack of career firefighters, with many more fire trucks responding to emergencies with below the minimum safe number of firefighters.

The minimum number of on-duty career firefighters (called Minimum Shift Staffing) in Auckland has been unable to be maintained no less than 43 times in 5 weeks, career fire trucks closed down more than 7 times at Titirangi and Birkenhead, communities left with no fire protection during the day and volunteers being expected to bear the brunt of poor FENZ staffing decisions.

This Saturday (22nd) alone Auckland has closures or shortages at the following stations:

St Heliers, Parnell, Ellerslie, Mt Roskill, Glen Eden, East Coast Bays, Birkenhead, Albany, Howick, Otahuhu, Otara

The North Shore is particularly vulnerable with a career fire truck closed (Birkenhead), and others at East Coast Bays, Albany, and Glen Eden short staffed, and this past week the Titirangi community left unprotected for several days.

A call to a house fire this afternoon in Birkdale was attended by the fire truck from Takapuna which took 10 minutes to arrive due to the closure of the Birkenhead fire station. Luckily this turned out to be a fence and retaining wall on fire that had not spread to the neighbouring structures. The impact of this 10 minute response time could have been catastrophic if the fire had spread further.

#1. At public tip today. In green waste section, not a car in sight. Tipping garden bag and from 20 metres away the tip attendant shouts “you must wear a mask to use the facility.”

“I’m sorry I don’t have a mask, how about I just stay distanced over here and tip my rubbish.”

“No the rules are you must have a mask, it’s on the gate, I will have to get you a mask.”

“Only 2 more bags to tip, then I will be gone.”

“No, putting other customers at risk.” Runs off to get a mask.

Meanwhile the bags are emptied. I’m back in the vehicle and leaving. Tip attendant returns with a mask. I smile, wave, and thank her for her concern. Still no one else in site.

Benefits of Covid-19 vaccination:
So the CDC study shows that if you are vaccinated, under 65 with no risk factors Covid presents limited problems.
How does that compare with comparable unvaccinated group?
The report is largely pre-Omicron.
How many of those in the study have had covid before.
There was a one in 500 chance of catching Delta covid after vaccination.
Worldometer records show that 21.5% of population have had Covid (so double?).
US population is 63.5% fully vaccinated.
In NZ these figures would result in approx 6000 infections.

  NSW is a more useful comparison as they have vax levels slightly higher than we do.
  
  They peaked at around 50,000 tested Omicron cases a day.
  
  In reality the numbers were far higher as they pulled back the qualification for testing, and the test positivity rates were over 50% at times. If test positivity rates are over 5% then you are missing cases.
  
  The more important figures are the hospitals – they seem to have leveled off at 2700 beds and just under 200 in ICU. Their popn is 8.1 million so if their numbers translated to NZ, we would be stretched.

Do the teachers union and the people sitting in offices in Wellington (if they still do) have any idea what little kids are actually like in a classroom?
The teacher will spend more time managing mask wearing chaos than they will getting them to learn anything.

Secondly, this link, note from 2.45 minutes Luxon says there are 2 things which are priority re Covid. He mentions 1) the vulnerable 2) getting defences in place RATS 2) again, be very much focused, then says finally (being the 3rd point, or 4 (if you are actually counting, which he plainly isn’t) he says finally: establishing protocols.
