Last night on TV news we had very disturbing coverage of a gang of youths smashing and robbing a store in broad daylight and escaping in a car, intimidating a passerby who tried to intervene. We have a level of crime and brazen crime that we have never seen before.

And the media cover it, they cover the crime from a bleeding heart, wringing their hands perspective. The poor shopkeeper, things are very hard for him.

But no one in the media ever gets outraged. As an ordinary citizen I think these sort of crimes are outrageous! I think the Minister of police should be immediately interviewed that night. What you propose to do about this unacceptable brazen criminal activity in the middle of a main street in broad daylight??

But no one ever gets mad. The media stay in their slumber. No one questions the Prime Minister about this.
Indeed the only time that the media get exercised is when Chris Luxon does a social media post “today I am in Te Puke”, when he is away overseas on holiday. How is that even a story?

We appear to be in a dream world. No one questions the government about runaway inflation, the number of people who are not working, outrageous crime rates and giving away the country to Maori interests. If you watch TV news, if you read stuff or news hub, the Prime Minister is never at fault. As we head towards Third World status, no one is holding the Prime Minister to account.
Again our media seem to only get exercised when criticising the All-Black coach.
Given the complete dereliction of duty by our media, we have no debate, Brian Tamaki is exercising a prophetic role organising some protest against this government. And he gets heavily criticised for it. And they prosecute him and send him to jail. But otherwise the public debate is almost non-existent.

We are just in a dream world. We are prisoners in Jacinda’s world.

    From what I here few people shop in Queen St at the best of times.
    I noticed someone kicked that car and put a dent in the door. The car was stolen and abandoned shortly afterwards. So the poor owner had to find his car and now it’s got a dent in the door.

      The bystander possibly thought marking the car by denting the door would make it easier to identify.

  Absolutely right. Look at the growing outrage about the All Black coach’s lack of results. Why is there not the same media outrage about the lack of positive results from the $86M being borrowed each day in our name. Truancy is rife, shootings, ram raids and ‘incidents’ a daily occurrence, poverty and homelessness growing, inflation rampant, but the Prime Minister is never held responsible for any of it.

    Yesterday I put myself through the torture of her interview with Jack Tame a week ago. The most interesting thing I got from it was in the preamble before the actual interview.
    
    The `Invisible’ Prime Minister of New Zealand Jacinda Ardern would only commit herself to two 20 minute segments on Q & A this year – or so Tame said. The clips I saw indicated Tame was hard on her – watching the whole thing that was bullshit.

  Funny you mention Brian Tamaki as he used to be ridiculed from all angles on KB but lately I have detected a subtle change in the attitude of some posters with more and more positive coverage emerging.
  I can only assume this is because he has jumped on the freedom,anti mandate bandwagon and some people will follow anyone saying things which appeal to their own interests even if previously they rubbished them.

      What exactly do you think Brian Tamaki is personally gaining by being about the only public figure expressing a strongly dissenting voice? A short stay in prison? Did Paddy Gower or Tova O’Brien tell you he’s a bad man?
      
      I posted the other day that I have previously been indifferent to Tamaki, but look at the facts rather than someone’s opinion about the facts. The guy has courage, character, tenacity, and fortitude, qualities which are totally absent in our so-called opposition. I’d vote for Tamaki any day rather than the spineless opportunists, toadies and quislings who seem to expect a vote just by showing up.
      
      Where are Luxon and Seymour on Covid tyranny? Fuck knows, they are completely missing in action. And moreover, they backed the policies in the first place. If Tamaki is such an “idiot”or worthy of some other such epithet, then these two should seriously examine why a so-called idiot is increasingly gaining public sympathy and respect at their expense for walking the walk and talking the talk, whereas they are seen as complicit. At times like these, to get a measure of a man, you just need to look around and note who is saying and doing what. I don’t see Seymour or Luxon doing anything, other than ensuring they don’t do anything to rock the boat.
      
      Further up the General Debate you post this, seemingly unironically:

      I think the coordinated program of denouncing and discrediting someone like Tamaki Brian Tamaki and people who agree him (a situation which shows how much they fear a wave of organised public resistance) fits exactly the tactic of “distraction” you yourself note above. By painting Tamaki as a marginal figure, you are effectively “talking about a ball game” while neglecting the really important matters.

        Absent any evidence that any of this is in fact the case, let’s assume it is true.
        
        So what? You seem to have a problem with Brian Tamaki telling “his followers” to not get vaccinated (and why would they at this point?), yet you are a big advocate of Jacinda Ardern telling her followers to get vaccinated, probably for the fourth time (and why would they at this point?).

      The rule of thumb established over the last couple of years is that if you are being shat on by the media, then you are on the right track. Given the media has lost all credibility, anyone they endorse doesn’t have any either. A media hate campaign should be a badge or honour for the target. I laugh when KBers rightly wet their pants over how the media are so uncritical of Ardern, yet they will often agree with the same media when they are critical of Tamaki et al.

Nothing positive to take out of things ATM. By far and away the worst government in living memory. The worst 4th estate, and I think we are seeing the decline of civil institutions.

        California’s demise into a failed state is simply because of diversity. On an empirical basis, California destroys the assumptions of diversity ideology. If you want to know the outcome of diversity policies, look at California, which in about 50 years has gone from a white picket fence idyll, to a third world dystopia. Whites are a minority in LA, and you get what you get.
        
        The Californian population itself is now or is fast approaching majority non-White, and the state is also thus increasingly administered by non-Whites. The issue cannot simply be “democrat policies” in the abstract, the issue is the consequences of applying those policies.
        
        For instance, as a control group, Maine or Vermont are paradigm a “woke liberal” Democrat strongholds, but because they are not ethnically diverse (i.e. they are both more than 90% White, the least diverse states in the union), they have none of the problems that are natural consequences of their politics. Hypocrites? Certainly. But because they are hypocrites and don’t live by their own tenets, they live in safe, clean and orderly states.

  • National should set up a website on which they put their view of selected news items and for some demands for comment just explain it is on our website.
  If it was handled properly it could become a controversial alternative which could get a following they want.
  If current media so not give unbiased coverage, set up your own with a small team.
  One question is : Are they smart enough to do it?
  
  • Crime wave, particularly among younger people – how much is it currently a result of lockdowns, ‘isolation’, ‘detachment’ and truancy, and the lack of outraged reaction also a factor of similar pandemic response?

  Excellent post. I’m at a loss to understand how our values are now so disposable and up for sale. Social mores that have been in place in NZ my whole life have been wiped away in the space of a few years. People who complain about street violence or the erosion of democracy are branded “Karens” and “racists”. The one I scratch my head perhaps the most at is on the one hand the war on men on behalf of women but then on the other the denial that “women” even exist. In many cases the same people argue both positions. The conplete lack of internal logic across their narratives leads me to believe that these people think only a complete deconstruction of the social order and the things it is constructed around will do.

    It isn’t internally consistent, but then again, it’s not supposed to be internally consistent. Internal consistency is required to build, far less so to destroy. Just keep hammering away at the foundations and it will eventually fall over.
    
    Confusion is a feature, not a bug. The aim is to disorientate and for society to become rudderless and foundationless. All in the name of “progress.” They’ll tell us “Those bigots back in the day were simply doing it all wrong for a thousand years or more, not because it worked but because they didn’t have the enlightenment we now enjoy.” What was once an elaborate cathedral will be reduced to rubble, but there will of course be people who seek to rule that rubble.
    
    Everything that is being done (and I’m talking the social program that really took off in the 60s, but probably actually dates right back to about the French Revolution, an event that plausibly marks the transition to Modernism) has been done to destroy an existing and time-tested social structure. This is why thinking that simply electing ACT or National will have any noticeable effect, for the fundamental reason that the people in these parties are adherents to and steeped in the destructive ideologies whose logical conclusions we are living with today.
    
    We all know the saying “Weak men make hard times etc”. Well, these and the coming period are the hard times that have been passed to us by our weak antecedents. The weakest of all want us to vote for them next year.
    
    What could broadly be designated as Traditionalism worked because it was right and acknowledged a natural order, whereas its replacement, Modernism, doesn’t work because it is wrong and rejects a natural order.

  Stand-by for more media beatups against National later. Hosking stated there would be a TV1 poll tonight, perfect timing for Labour as they and the MSM ran coordinated beatups against National during the last 2-3 weeks which no doubt is the polling period (also when Dear PM was partially overseas receiving positive MSM coverage) and no doubt any positive coverage for National at its conference over the weekend won’t be included in the polling period!

  Last night on TV news we had very disturbing coverage of a gang of youths smashing and robbing a store in broad daylight and escaping in a car, intimidating a passerby who tried to intervene. We have a level of crime and brazen crime that we have never seen before.
  
  There is cause and there is effect.
  The above is an effect. If the media covered the main contributing cause as veraciously as they cover the effect, then things would change.

  [2] Spending billions telling poor, young, and /or early settlers that their problems were created bu colonisation.

  Last week the Auckland Area Commander tried to claim there was only about 12 ram raid incidents in Auckland since May.
  
  Shit you would be lucky if was only 12 per suburb since May. Last week had at least two substantial ones in my area and it’s continuous.
  
  You would be lucky to find a dairy, liquor store or jewellery shop anywhere in Auckland who hasn’t been attacked at least once this year. So many have been attacked multiple times they don’t even bother repairing windows and doors anymore, they just keep the emergency plywood up instead.

All the after match focus is on the All Blacks’ coach and players and so it should be. They are simply too erratic, disjointed, dispirited and aimless to be a team in good leadership hands.

But there is an even bigger problem. It’s the modern game, its rules and their interpretation. What has happened to our beautiful game? Where is the free flowing, exciting running, the ‘front-of-the-seat’ excitement? The test was a start/stop affair and more stop than start. Too many so-called misdemeanours, too many long rambling strolling into position, too much fuss and niggle at scrum time, too much referee whistle, too many decisions that could go one way or the other.

The Mbombela test was as interesting as watching grass grow. Of the 120 mins or so the players were on the field about a third was playing time. The rest was waiting around for the players and the referees to get organised. Something needs to change. I have never been a league fan but it provides a better flow of action and excitement. Time for a rule change or two. There needs to be more separation between teams at the set piece. When a referee says “use it” he should mean it. There has to be more consistency at the breakdown. Strolling to lineouts needs to stop. That would improve things a little.

The All Blacks lost on Sunday morning and deserved to. So did rugby.

  Refereeing lottery and ‘water breaks’ are killing the game.
  Quite simply All Blacks are trying to run the ball against an effective rush defence. Springboks kick all the time, accurately with good follow up.
  Effective, and boring. I am fast becoming a league convert. A much faster game without the suspicion that the ref has a result in mind from the start.

    Actually Prince I thought Gardner was the best ref the AB’s have had this year. He seems to have a good feel for the game and the only thing he could have improved on (that I saw) was getting the Boks to lineouts and scrums quicker.
    
    His decisions were clear and concise and he did not allow the TMO to dictate the decision making.

        I agree, the Laws have been buggered about with far too much. IMO, it’s all been going wrong since they stopped the team going forward retaining possession and incentivised the defence to kill the ball. Before that, as a defending team, you had to commit numbers to the breakdown to try to stop the momentum of the attacker and then lead to much more space out wide.

    There has been a massive change in how rugby tests play out since the introduction of interchange opportunities. In times past fitness and endurance were important and games opened up as fatigue set in. The All Blacks used to run the bull-like Bok forwards into the ground – not now. The heavy artillery were ‘gassed’ halfway through the game on saturday; fresh replacements were brought on to resume the battle. The All Blacks have concentrated their preparation on fitness and speed and they can, individually see out 90 minutes, but this is no match for the ability of their opponents to rebuild the team during the games.
    Interchange opportunities have also enabled a change in body conditioning. Both Ireland and the Boks have developed power forwards with limited stamina; much like grid iron players.

    Oh the happy days when we had Don Clarke at fullback and Rugby was a 10 man game.
    From a scrum or lineout the ball would be passed back from the halfback to the fullback who would slam it down field and out (on the full) as far down as he could kick it.
    Then have a new lineout and repeat.
    No need for anyone from 1st five to centre and the wings were only there to put the ball into the lineout.
    On the 1960 New Zealand tour of South Afrca there were 4 tests. SA scored a total 35 points and New Zealand a total of 25. That would be a fairly normal number in a single game today.

  But, as my co-watcher said, that is not what test rugby is about. Test rugby is about bash and crash.
  Re Sam Cane: he might be a nice bloke, but to make a difference in the world of bash and crash, you either have to be the most outstanding player in your position, or, you have to be the most outstanding leader in your team.

        @MCos – you’re spot on there. Sean Fitzpatrick was the best early exponent of this but he had a bit of an edge which meant the refs were sometimes inclined not to give his suggestions and questions full credence.
        
        Richie McCaw was an absolute genius at creating and maintaining a good relationship with the referee and it paid off many many times. They also knew he was highly intelligent and knew the rules as well as they did – I can’t help the feeling that if McCaw was still skipper in 2017 when the referee allowed himself to be convinced to overturn a blatant (albeit unfortunate) off-side play by the Lions in the dying seconds of the deciding test, the result would have been a (correct) penalty to the ABs rather than a scrum. Sam Cane is too passive.
        
        Side note: when Fitzpatrick retired, he was presented with a sterling silver whistle by all the international referees, for being “the best referee in the game”. On one side of the whistle was inscribed “shut up” and the other “get back onside” or something similar.

  Strolling to lineouts needs to stop, so should wasting time with team on field conferences to determine the next tactic, – immediate retreat 10 meters back toward the offending goal line and reversal of ball ownership; drawing out the placing of the ball for a penalty/conversion kick – cancel the kicking opportunity.
  One TEST with these conditions and there would be an immediate return to flowing RUGBY, instead of the present persistent THUGBY approach to the game.

        I am not in the camp of blaming every sudden death in teenagers on the COVID vaccine. As I posted in GD yesterday, unexpected cardiac deaths in teens in OECD countries runs somewhere between 6 and 10 per 100,000. (I posted a citation.) That rate has been stable for many years.
        
        If that rate rises over the next 12 – 24 months, it will be alarming. At the very least there is already good data that shows a rise in myocarditis and pericarditis in teenage and young men, shortly following the vaccine.

        I don’t know anyone who blames every “sudden” death on the vaccine. The problem is the complete lack of transparency and the deliberate censorship of information and evidence that doesn’t align with Ardern’s “single source of truth”.
        Of course it means people will look at every unexplained death with suspicion. As has been noted by many, this lack of transparency is destroying trust in once highly respected.
        
        There is clear evidence of increases in heart issues, clear evidence of major problems with menstruation in women, clear evidence of increases in all cause mortality around the world, clear evidence of massive increases in adverse effects after vaccination. This is all beyond dispute now. Anyone still dribbling that “correlation is not causation” is being willfully blind and obtuse.

      Indeed, Pauline’s death was “mysterious”. According to all reports it had nothing at all to do with being jabbed hours earlier.
      
      There have also been a few “unexplained” deaths of people who dropped dead during the rest period in vaccine clinics in NZ, just minutes after the jab.
      
      The reason you have to stay in the vaccine clinic for a few minutes after the jab is just in case there are “side effects”. But since “sudden unexplained death” is not listed in Pfizers list of side effects, the deaths were “purely co-incidental”.

    Stunning. I must have been amazingly lucky, same with my kids and grandkids. Other than one poor kid who was killed in a car crash and one who sadly got cancer and died we have never heard of a 12 year old dying “suddenly”.

        Anecdotes are not very helpful. There has been good data on New Zealand mortality rates by age since forever.
        
        For the 10-14 age group the death rate has been stable at 0.1/1,000 since 2010. That data includes partial data for 2021. For the 14-25 age group, rates have declined slightly since 2010.
        
        It will be important to watch those death rates when the full 2021 and 2022 data becomes available. If the death rates for 2022 remain unchanged from the decade trend, it will be difficult to sustain the case that the COVID vaccine is killing young people.

    I think I saw you last week at the annual straw clutcher’s conference, I was there in the background to help people who had woken up, escape the escape the clutches of the straw clutchers.
    
    Your argument IS clutching at straws.
    
    A chap I went to school and youth group with, died in his sleep in his first year of university, during the weekend and discovered on the Monday. The death was unexplained, at least to us, but there would have been a post-mortem. Perhaps he died of a drug someone gave him at the Students Association regular Friday night drunk fest. Perhaps he drank way too much or drank when he normally didn’t.
    
    Perhaps he had a stroke or heart attack or died of other natural causes. We never knew, and perhaps the family chose to keep the cause secret.
    
    Even if unexplained, it does not in a million years prove 40 years later, that Pfixer vaccines are safe and not causing hundreds of thousands of unexplained and/or accelerated deaths worldwide.

    @ Ross – about 15 years ago I looked after a 14 yo lad who dropped to the ground while kicking a ball around at break-time at school. He was resuscitated and brought in to hospital where I monitored him via the ECG. We kept him in overnight and what we saw over 24 hours was one random flurry of irregular beats which reverted to normal rhythm within seconds, but which would have resulted in sudden death if normal rhythm hadn’t resumed. He didn’t notice it. (We were fascinated as we hadn’t seen anything like this before, and we had it recorded on the ECG !)
    This abnormal cardiac activity is commonly asymptomatic, and sudden death is rare, but there is no way to detect its presence in a usually healthy youth without cardiac monitoring.

  Yes I note we also haven’t heard back about the Muriwai Teen who died almost a year ago after the vaccine and also during a run apparently. It was with the coroner in Sept 2021.
  
  With the most recent tragedy, the Herald reports the principal saying it’s “appalling” to speculate on the cause of death but actually it is our responsibility as adults that we understand the facts in a timely manner when a young person dies, especially when we are coercing them to take a drug that is still provisionally approved . We have a right to know the facts which once again are withheld from the article so we can keep our own teens safe or feel reassured about the safety of the product.
  
  I note that Pauling Polkinghorne’s story has gone quiet. Also another sudden death right after the vaccine, we were told it the family didn’t want it linked to the vaccine and the fact was removed from the article. Then we were lead to believe in great detail that it was murder. So where is that case at? Is there an open police enquiry? Is the murderer still on the loose? Has it gone to the vaccine safety committee? Has their been an autopsy? Has it gone to the coroner?
  
  And by chance I met a fully boosted friend and helped them with some social media for their new business. They had no logo because “the young guy who was doing their logo unexpectedly died”.

One of Luxon’s list of things we all apparently want is to recognise the Treaty of Waitangi. I think that’s a great idea. A treaty between the majority of chiefs of the Maori tribes and the British crown which accepted NZ and all of its people into the Empire and provided a way for future immigration and the transfer of land to a proper recording – title – system. Maybe some say in the care of rivers. That’s it.

Not run by the military (they have better things to do than army little scumbags) but perhaps by ex military drill sergeants and officers. Some youth might crack and need mental health care.     Razor coached his team well and it dismantled Auckland in the final. Exactly the way Ireland dismantled the ABs to win the series. That is good coaching/planning.
    
    The Boks smashed us and outplayed us in key positions, they targeted our weaknesses. ie;
    small No8 and useless No7.

  These workers whom we practically beg to come over here to do work the vast majority of New Zealanders won’t do – are really just used.
  They have to pay for a wide range of costs out of their meagre earnings including work clothing, transport to the fields and accommodation. The rest of their money gets sent home to the Islands.
  Which I guess is the only reason they would come here to be treated worse than dogs.
  I have family member who also works in the industry alongside the RSE workers.
  Sometimes they don’t even have access to fresh water or toilet facilities.

More damning data. The vaccine looks like it gives no protection against hospitalisation. Almost zero difference in numbers for those under 40, which is consistent with claims that those under that age were at minimal risk and taking the jab was of no benefit.
The numbers of hospitalisations in the older groups, particularly the single and double jabbed is of great concern. I would imagine the third jab numbers will also climb given we know that any early efficacy falls off a cliff very rapidly.

Disposable values wildebeest is an apt observation. Without a compass and a true north all values are disposable.

We desperately need the truth. Not the ill defined woke revaltistic truth or the humanistic existential version of truth which in both cases comes down to feelings and individual opinion.

Imagine we had actual truth, as in that which corresponds to reality. Not perceived truth as our senses can fail us but an ultimate truth on which we could base our morality upon with some surety it wouldn’t change with the winds of popular or with those in power telling us what is morally acceptable.

Imagine we based our laws on that truth and that we embraced a rational and empathic society on the premise that we loved one another and aimed to do our best in life.

Still modern life reflects ancient times in that “everyone does whatever they think is right…or what they can get away with…”

Now only if there was a set of instructions or something we could start with as a foundation?

The TAMAKI UMBRELLA thing is interesting. Its all been done before. of course, the Christian Coaition in 96 and the United Future NZ amalgam after it.

But this time, the ingredients of the Tamaki cake are already so fractious, this is an over bake before it even reaches the oven. The Umbrella will never survive the election campaign. Previous the CC and UF people were at least political veterans and somewhat moderate.

This motley crew are narrow-issue nut cases; Mr Baker could only garner a few hundred votes in Chch East, and only a few thousand for his whole ill-conceived party.

Tamaki is an attention seeker, thus his base is just rallies, where he gets a platform to show off and try and craft a sense of identity and purpose. Having met and talked with him up close, he has no policy framework or ideology just anti-this and anti-that. A puritan finger pointer.

The BBC is having problems broadcasting the Commonwealth Games, writes Allison Pearson in the Guardian.

“The corporation is clearly deeply ill at ease with what its staff would regard as a ‘problematic’, ‘imperialist’ (racist) institution.”

In coverage of the opening ceremony, Pearson writes, “ … Casey Bailey intoned a dire bit of doggerel which instructed us to ‘check the galleries and palaces for the evidence of wrongdoing’.”

Pearson adds:

As Casey fretted about millions of people “held under” by the Commonwealth’s banner, the Beeb helpfully added footage of the National Front (from 50 years ago) just to remind viewers what a horrible, racist country we live in.

In a broadcast of a panel, “the history of the Commonwealth isn’t the best,” said Ama Agbeze, who, Pearson writes, “strangely seems to have done quite well under that dreadful organisation, captaining England in 2018 to a Gold medal in hideously white netball no less.”

Have NZ’s State TV and State radio downplayed the Commonwealth Games in line with their Woke leanings on the British settlement of NZ?

Red Radio is looking at the widespread use in NZ of Chinese-made Hikvision surveillance cameras.

Chiefly, this seems to be a political call for action against the Chinese product. If so, where will this stop? A vast slab of electronic componentry we use comes fully, or in part, from China. Chinese made stuff is in our TVs, computers, cell phones …

In May, Reuters reported the United States was moving towards further sanctions on Hikvision because of Chinese repression of its Uighurs.

Hikvision was put on the American trading black list first in 2019, over allegations of use of its cameras in civil rights abuse in China.

America’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency warned last September that 70 Hikvision cameras had flaws allowing access.

Earlier, in 2017, a branch of America’s Homeland Security, reported on flaws. Hikvision fairly quickly said it had fixed the two problems in some models: an improper authentication bug and a “password in configuration file vulnerability”.

  So if I understand correctly Uffindell was expelled from Kings for late night violent hazing of younger student aka bullying. If that’s right then regardless of the fact he was a school kid then ‘he’s a bully’ will be the retort for everything he touches politically forever. There is no forgiveness or acceptance that people change or do shitty things as kids – but generally grow into good people in modern left.     Men in politics will be hamstrung by this in future – because they tend to be more physically violent as poorly emotionally regulated teens prone to doing dumb things without consideration of consequence – the reason we don’t hold them criminally liable for things until they are older.     I had a friend at Uni – truly a really nice guy and smart – went on to engineering PhD, who got expelled from halls in first year for (as a very poorly judged prank/lark in a group) kidnapping a guy in his hall, (dressed up in black balaclavas) driving him out to the countryside and pretending they were going to execute him. Do you think this would be an issue at all if he were a Labour MP? Of course not. This isn’t about right or wrong, it’s about the expedient of hobbling a political opponent. The only ones genuinely clutching their pearls are the National supporters on KB. The rule of the game is to help your own, hurt your opponent. Why would you want to throw your own side under the bus? It’s not like he killed or raped someone.

    The way to show leadership would be for Luxon to do absolutely nothing and tell people to get over it and instead focus on more important issues. However, because he is so weak, I expect he’ll cave in to his opponents and sack him, while Labour laugh at how stupid Luxon is for doing so.

Nobody is perfect, but if National vetted him, and this didn’t come out, then I have problems with his judgement.

If this was disclosed and then he was selected as a candidate, then I have a problem with the Party Process.

Either way, this is a terrible look.

FGS I hope the first thing the new president does is put a decent vetting system into place. At the very least this just makes them look incompetent. National when are you going to realise that you are one great big fat target and need to be absolutely pure. The media are not your friend, they are bottom feeders just looking for this stuff. It doesn’t matter that this happened when this man was a boy, nothing is too far back for these grubs to sensationalise to hurt National. We all know if it was labour or the greens, it would be “leave him alone he has paid his due”, but we also know that’s not how it swings for National. As for Uffindel, well I suggest he resign now and stop the bleeding, the apology was obviously contrived and with his by election in mind. The media are going to flay him and National until he goes.

I know it was a long time ago and he apologised (although the timing of that doesn’t look good) but the media will just keep the narrative going that National don’t choose good people to run for them.

  I would have voted for the Act representative (Cameron Luxton). Presumably he does not think it a fun activity to commit serious assaults.
  
  The more I think about this, and if national knew about it, this is going to be damaging. Especially Uffindell’s now BS hypocritical speech against crime.

    Because Labour know that the first rule is that you protect your own, while doing everything you can to harm their opponents. They don’t care about Mallard’s behaviour: he is one of theirs, and that is all that matters. People who seriously believe that Labour actually care about what a National MP did years ago just don’t have a clue. They are using it cynically to deflect from their own troubles.       Mallard’s assault, of another MP, was a sackable offence in every business or organisation, public or private, the length of the country.
      
      By not exiting him as soon as possible after the assault Labour have not only shamed themselves but have established a precedent.
      
      If I was Luxon and when asked by the media about Uffindel I’d throw it right back in their faces saying “The precedent has been set by Labour’s inaction over Mallard….” and “Mallard’s assault was WHILE A PARLIAMENTARIAN and within Parliament buildings – not something dragged up from 20 years ago…”
      
      I don’t know Uffindel from a bar of soap, and if I did meet him I suspect I wouldn’t like him – but we want to be very careful about dragging up people’s pasts and using them to crucify people in the present.
      
      It just doesn’t seem right to me.
      
      Now, how about that Mega Fightery – she assaulted her own staff member and Ardern now has her as our Customs Minister!
      
      Labour have no credibility in these matters whatsoever.

    1News was very once-over-lightly on the Uffindell story. Let’s be honest; who of us didn’t do stupid shit when we were teenagers. I can’t see it causing long-term damage.
    
    On the other hand, there are still revelations coming on Nanaia Mahuta and William Gannin Ormsby which are current, and involve a Minister of the Crown. Now that IS newsworthy, and the kind of stuff that brings down a government.

  And that’s really heartening Tony and they are clearly really concerning the labour and their media beneficiaries, hence the attacks, but they can’t continue to shoot themselves in the foot with dumb shit like this. The media have already started the meme around Luxon being mistake and gaffe ridden, they will be going after him now if he was aware of this before the by election. It will be death by a thousand cuts. My concern is that NZ just can’t take another three years of this government and National can’t expect to just walk into government because people are sick of this lot.

Ignoring the pidgin, I would disagree that “most” people have such low aspirations, but perhaps close to a majority of voters do have these things as the sum total of their ambitions for their pathetic lives.

I have analysed socialism all my life, to try and understand the appeal, and I believe that I have cracked it.

Socialists are a like protean idiot thing from pre-history, who have no aspiration or ambition, but just want to exist in a semi sentient state until they die. I don’t have an issue with this, so long as they left me alone.

Of course, the socialist will never leave CAKE in peace. The thing that most disturbs the socialist is the pesky people who want more from their life. They make the socialist feel bad. Their answer is to cut the achievers and the ambitious down to size. Success for others makes the socialist uncomfortable, so they must be brought down to size.

Of course, the socialist wants to take your money because they are lazy and mediocre. But there’s more to it than that. If you do something, or even threaten to do something, you are humiliating the poor, old lefty. You are making them look stupid. Socialists often deceive themselves that they are intelligent, or at least not stupid.

They take your money, because they want to spend it. They also take your money, because they want everyone to have nothing, and be happy. The alternative is being humiliating routinely.

Sir Robert Muldoon government, which was New Zealand’s worst government until this one, still scored 35% of the vote in 1984 (admittedly under FPP).

I suspect that the socialist constituency for failure and poverty has base support of about 45% of voters.

I predict that the next election will be close.

What matters in reality is the change in vote since election 2020 and that’s looking bad for Labour.
Labour down 13%
National up 5.4@
ACT up 3.4%
Green up 1.1 %
Left leaning down 11.9 %
Right leaning up8.8%
Interesting days and had the poll been taken after the National conference I suspect Nats would be higher and the others, including ACT lower.

  As I understand it Maggy only until they get a call from the PM’s comms team. Apparently they hold a regular meeting vetting headlines in the MSM and make calls to the editor where these reflect badly on Labour. I heard this from a senior journalist.
  
  On the issue of tonight’s poll or more to the point how it was “explained” by TV1. Apparently, according to Jessica Mutch, Labour and Jacinda’s dive in popularity can be put down to the trifling matters of “people feeling grumpy in winter” and “mishandling of the living costs payment”. No mention of 3 waters, co-governance, inflation, covid rules etc etc.
  
  As for the Uffindale issue I thought the guy was a douche bag from the moment I saw him and it does amaze me how some real out of touch clowns get ahead in the National Party (Jamie LR, Aaron Gilmore). However….so what? This is another test of Luxon for mine and nothing less than “he made a mistake in the past, he’s done his time and I back him” will do. Prevaricating will just draw it out and sacking him will just vindicate the shabby hit job it is. Funny how the MSM haven’t found a dodgy past amongst the multitude of Labour MPs we’ve had since 2017….
