Meet TPM’s “hero”
Te Pati Maori co-leader Rawiri Waititi shared a video of Ibrahim Traoré on Instagram and declared him his “hero”.
Traoré is the leader of Burkina Faso. Here’s his record:
- Supported a coup that forced out of office a centre-left elected president who had won with 59% of the vote
- Then took power is his own coup d’état in mid 2022
- Is a Marxist
- He promised elections by July 2024, but reneged
- Wants to make homosexuality a criminal offence
- Has deployed Russian troops and the Wagner Group within Burkina Faso
- Said he doesn’t want democracy, that “no country has ever developed under democracy” but a wants a popular, progressive revolution,
- Said that freedom of expression leads to a society of disorder
- Has had 200 citizens summarily executed by security forces
- Conscripts human rights activists into the military front line
How long will it take for people to wake up to the fact that Te Pati Maori is an extremist anti-democratic party? Surely the co-leader calling a military dictator, who decries democracy, his personal hero is more than a small clue?
