We’re all racist!
July 30th, 2003 at 10:30 am by David FarrarAccording to Dr Cullen Bill English is racist for calling for legislation to exert exclusive crown ownership of the beaches and seabed.
Apart from the infantile stupidity of calling anyone who disagrees with Laboru a racist, Dr Cullen’s problem is that Mr English is merely calling for what Helen Clark and Margaret Wilson promised to do a few weeks ago before their Maori Caucus woke up. So does that make Helen and Margaret racists also?
And does it make the 50,000+ people who have signed a petition at www.beachesforall.co.nz calling for the same also racist.
It would be nice to live in a country where one can disagree on issues relating to the Treaty of Waitangi and not be called racist.

At least, it would be nice if Cullen, Turia and their friends on the left were subject to the same scepticism from the Fourth Estate as English is.

I think that Bill English , the 50k on the petition and many more unheard New Zealanders, all want EQUALITY with Maori over the beaches etc AND all other issues related to daily living in this country of OURS – AND recognise that New Zealand is MULTICULTURAL , NOT BICULTURAL.
Vote:It’s not relevant who was here first – Its about the fact that we are all here now & should be treated as equals. This means equal opportunity to education , employment etc. This is not the case with education eg Maori given a higher priority or easier ride to qualify for some learning institutions. There are dozens of other situations where Maori are singled out and given additional rights to ALL other New Zealanders – Surely this is Racist and not treating all of our people as equals.
An essential part of a society of EQUALS is that we take responsibility for our own actions , which if too extreme, become part of the impression of our culture/race that is held by others. An example of this (my personal opinion) is that Maori are over represented in NZ performing arts & sport – WHY? – because they are very talented & naturally skilled – Thank God we have Maori people representing New Zealand in these areas . I have pride as a New Zealander in the many successes achieved.
Unfortunately Maori are over represented in prison and unemployment , and some Maori continue to blame Pakeha and anyone else for choices that too many of them make as individuals.
We should be able to respect each other’s cultures as EQUALS.
As EQUAL New Zealanders, the NZ Govt should ensure that the dollars available give our people the best education & health systems. If we persist in having too many separate/parallel systems for Maori and Non Maori , then the overall standards will continue to drop. There is a massive number of Asian people within NZ. Many English/Scots/Dutch etc have been in New Zealand for several generations – why is it then that these people of differing cultural backgrounds are not given mention when eg there is going to be a new highway built – they are consulted and given the opportunity to have input into changes – but as NZ citizens – not as part of any particular race. Maori are singled out. Surely this is RACISM again!! This is why thousands of people are fed up , and the beach issue is another example of some Maori demonstrating their Racist views , because for some reason they believe that they deserve to be treated as superior , or having more rights than other New Zealanders.
I believe that the only way forward , in order to achieve this elusive state of EQUALITY (I never get sick of this word) , is to place the Treaty of Waitangi in a museum somewhere , and put in place MODERN legislation that gives ALL New Zealanders equal rights.
The call of ONE COUNTRY / ONE PEOPLE (recognising the MANY cultures) / ONE LAW must be the basis of OUR FUTURE.
I once admired Helen Clark & Labour ,but they have now crossed that line to support racism , greed and inequality.
National must heighten their profile to ensure all New Zealanders are treated as EQUAL.

Kia ora I am a 16 year old male Maori, all this stuff about equality is crap, Most pakeha are wealthy and own everything, if land wasnt illegally taken then the Maori people would have created businesses and opportunity for their people and therfore wouldnt be dependent on these scholorships or the Goverment, plain and simple the Pakeha (not all as some with honour helped maori) set out to oppress the Maori people and they did a good job of it, ever heard of colonisation?, its not just Maori people who are fighting the oppressers so are many indigenous people all over the word, are they all wrong? They just want handouts right? Wrong they want equality aswell but how can they when all their resourses are owned by Pakehas, and the pakeha will never part with these resourses because they are to greedy. People complain that maori are treated special, many government funded programmes for maori are paid because the crown acknowledges the injustices that have occured. The average pakeha doesnt read about those injustices or about much of the history yet they think they have a valid opinion without knowing the facts, its hard to conversate with ignorance and arrogance. Surely you must also know that the powers that control this nation and also the world are racist, is it a co-incodence that all coloured people of the world are poor? Coloured people are poor today beacause of the repercations of yesterday. Anotherthing, the media uses propaganda to make maori look bad, for instance almost all the docos on maori are about negative things eg gangs, drinking, violence, wheres the docos on the 28th Maori Battalion, maori making successful lives overseas, maori fashion, old maori etc? The newspaper also does the same thing I look through the paper each day to see how many positive things there are about maori, ushually none or 1 and if it is positive they are called a kiwi but if its negative they say Maori. Why? beacause racist minds control thye media and as they say the media controls the mind. I read the monthly MANA magazine, you know “the Maori magazine for all New Zealanders” and there are many positive things Maori are doing some amazing things yet they never get a mention in the news or newspapers even though they are surely newsworthy, yet instead they show on the news a maori guy who killed 4 pigeons and it went on for like 10mins interviwing many people, propaganda. Many Pakeha want to assimilate maori.

Besides all this we still live in a good country and i find that most people are loving and freindly, i love being maori and i love my pakeha freinds and relatives, lets not get too nasty over this ,remember love overcomes all !

We are all New Zealanders, so we all should abide by the same rules.
If there was a European all black rugby team, people would be angry because its all europeans….BUT there is an all Maori all black team, so why not an all European one? Or will the Maoris cry foul??
Now THATS racist.
