Winston sues everyone

June 30th, 2004 at 10:32 am by David Farrar

Aaron Bhatnagar blogged yesterday Winston’s statement to Parliament that he was suing not just TVNZ and Yvonne Dossetter but also Radio NZ, Ken Shirley MP and David Carter MP.

Aaron also has the quote Peters used in Parliament, quoting Iago about protecting his good name.

Possibly unfortuntate that Peters quoted Iago whom is an amoral villain who “deceives, steals, and
kills
“. He constantly lies to his wife, steals form his friends but gets away with it because he can “say the right things at the right time”!!

What I don’t get about Iago’s lawsuits is how he thinks he can sue two MPs for something they said in Parliament?

Iago is a classical (and scientifically precocious) description of a person (Psychopath or sociopath) with Anti-social Personality Disorder (APD). He uses an exceptional intellectual understanding of and ability to maniplualte the feelings of ohers while remaining completely devoid of any shred of empathy towards them. The quoted passage is an excellent example of this as he makes an eloquent (and eminently correct) case against the very thing that he himself is doing.
Winston, on the other hand …

Is Winston a modern day gift from Caligula? Perhaps a Horse’s Arse.

Peter – they have also commented to the media so I presume it is over those comments. Will be interesting to see the suit.

Also as Peters found out himself (vs Cushing) one can partially rely on things said inside Parliament, to make the case for things said outside Parliament.

Greyshade – yes the irony is well just worthy of the Bard himself.

Cushing successfully sued Iago on the grounds
that he had made defamatory statements outside
the house and identified Cushing as the person
concerned inside the house. OTOH Shirley made
the statements inside the house and AFAIK has
not made Owen Jenning’s mistake of repeating the
allegations outside while discussing it with the
media. Hence if Iago’s lawyers aren’t careful,
they could find themselves before the Privileges
    Committee.
