Books

Sigh – my turn to do this little meme. Thanks Tristan.

You’re stuck inside Fahrenheit 451. Which book do you want to be?

William’s Shirer’s The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich.

The book, written in 1959 is regarded by many as the definitive work on the Nazi era. We must never forget!

Have you ever had a crush on a fictional character?

Oh yes. My latest crush is on the wonderful Diana, lead character in the 1973 R.F. Delderfield book of the same name. A spirit which can not be tamed. You know she will break your heart, but you don’t care.

The last book you bought is

Full Disclosure by William Safire. Published in 1977 it is the story of a US President who becomes blind, and whether he is still able to function as President. Some members of his Cabinet try to invoke the 25th amendment to declare his unable to continue as President and install the Vice-President as Acting President.

The last book you finished is?

Caesar’s Legion: The Epic Saga of Julius Caesar’s Elite Tenth Legion and the Armies of Rome

A superb book which combines my love of history, politics and military. Thank you Anna.

What are you currently reading?

I tend to read a few books a week, sometimes rotating between them. At present we have:

Winston’s War by Michael Dobbs (the author of the critically acclaimed House of Cards, and currently doing a magnificent Churchill series)

The Last Kingdom by Bernard Cornwell. He does excellent historical fiction.

Grail by Stephen Lawhead. The 5th book of his Pendragon series.

Cato Handbook for the 109th Congress.

Yoda – Dark Rendezvous

Five Books you would take to a deserted Island?

The Shawshank Redemption. Never give up hope!

The Lord of the Rings. I grew up on this, and re-read it often.

The Thorn Birds. A great story of love and loss.

The collected works of William Shakespeare.

To serve them all my days by R.F. Delderfield.

Who are you going to pass this stick to (3 persons) and why?

I will pass it on to

Anna (Also a great book lover)

Megs (to remind her she hasn’t returned The First Man in Rome to me yet)

Rodney (Likely to list some books I will not know about but want to read)
