If only it was an April Fool’s joke Add this story to Scoopit!.

I was thinking last night about what would be a good April Fool’s post to do.  And I came up with the idea of blogging that NZ First had agreed to pay the txapayer back their $158,000.

But sadly the reality has made the joke no longer funny.

NZ First have stated they have started paying the money to charities, but in secret donations!!! Yes they will not tell us who they have donated it to, but we are to trust them.

Isn’t this ironic.  They receive a secret donation so they can make secret donations. And this is the party of transparency.

Audrey Young lets rip in her blog.  It is a great read.

Winston is dooming his party to oblivion with these tactics.  He and his candidates will be defending this decision at every campaign meeting, instead of getting to promote their achievements.

You have to be f-ing kidding me. What plonker thought up this idea? Do we think they are actually paying it, or just flat out lying? Either way it is dumb – would this be the trigger for some recent resignations?

  2. Lee C (4,120) Says:

    my take: http://monkeyswithtypewriter.blogspot.com/ thnx.

  3. Bevan (3,661) Says:

Nothing surprises me in regard to that man anymore, nobody comes as close to having as much contempt for the New Zealand public as Winston does. The sooner his grandstanding pompous arse is thrown out of Parliament the better.

  4. Gooner (995) Says:

Little wonder his staff are deserting him.

  5. gd (2,286) Says:

Luigi is suffering the fate of all failed politicans They start to believe their own bullshit and separate themselves from reality

If they occupied any other role they would be in the white rear fastened jacket in the rubber room

  6. Grant Michael McKenna (1,058) Says:

Words fail me. No wait- it is datelined Tuesday April 01, 2008- it is an April Fool’s joke.

Please let it be an April Fool’s joke.

  7. Paulus (645) Says:

I find it very sad as Winston and HIS BAUBLES leave a number of good people in his party electorially stranded.

I am very sorry for them, but that’s the breaks and with Winston————-who knows (or ever knew).

  8. The Double Standard (72) Says:

“But we don’t intend the beneficiaries are going to be part of the snooping, prying, malcontented interests of certain people in the media.”

Lol. At least Winston has a good command of negative verbs and adjectives.

  9. Yvette (1,608) Says:

The is a great solution following Starship’s earlier rejection and I’m sure details will be released in the run-up just prior to the Election when the most ‘serious good’ can come of it.

  10. Inventory2 (7,223) Says:

I’ve posted a couple of threads on this, including a caption contest!

  11. dad4justice (7,339) Says:

Winston is a sick joke as he continually makes a mockery of the word integrity.

  12. Paul (1,314) Says:

Dad there’s a sooty pot calling whom black?

  13. PaulL (4,409) Says:

Paul, you’re just trolling now. Get a grip.

  14. casual watcher (289) Says:

Winston is rooted – I am amazed his party hasn’t walked away from him by now. Where are the Nat sleepwalkers – have they gone into hibernation – they should be into Winston over this – easy money for them but they are too stupid to realise it. And the $50 from the crims should be $500 – they are such a half assed bunch of pussies. Even my dear old Mum who can’t stand Helen is not sure about Key – he has lost a lot of ground lately.

  15. siobhan (278) Says:

Agree with casual watcher – Key is looking very shaky.

Seriously considering ACT this time round. At least they are making it clear what they stand for. JK is taking pragmatism too far now.

  16. Inventory2 (7,223) Says:

It’s great that Audrey Young has put the boot into Peters, but who else in the MSM will be similarly inclined? The media should be all over Peters demanding REAL answers from him, not the self-serving platitudes and put-downs that he usually answers questions with.

  17. Pascal (2,013) Says:

I will reserve comment until tomorrow. If this story is still in the newspapers then I’ll believe it.

  18. david (2,028) Says:

    casual watcher

    patience dear friend, patience!

I know it is tempting to want instant gratification but that road leads to a shallow and ultimately unsatisfying life full of 10 second sound-bites which analyse to nothing of any meaning – much like those spouted by the Dear Leader really!.

  19. dave (918) Says:

I think this is a really good decision of NZ FIrst’s. I support giving money to charities. Its enouigh to make me vote New Zealand forst and I cant think why anyone else would imagine otherwise. What on earthi s wrong owth youj all!

  20. Yvette (1,608) Says:

    dave
    It has gone midday

  21. Inventory2 (7,223) Says:

Correct Yvette – the joke’s on Winston now!

  22. PaulL (4,409) Says:

dave: drunk in control of a keyboard. Is that a crime?

  23. casual watcher (289) Says:

David – the optimist in me says that the Nats are keeping their powder dry and they are waiting until they have a date to work to. But the $50 announcement sounded purile and a waste of time – a number of others have said the same to me today. It is a wet bus ticket approach and we already have that so why change.

  24. Sam (468) Says:

It would be quite a laugh if NZFirst were made to still repay the debt owing to Parliamentary Services, having already paid it all out to unnamed charites. Actually, this should be the case anyway, why isn’t it being enforced???

  25. TMC (52) Says:

Did anyone see the NZPA article on this? It quotes Winston reacting to questions by threatening the media.

    http://www.stuff.co.nz/4459507a11.html

“But he attacked the media for its interest in the issue saying “perhaps it is time to review the rules governing overseas ownership of the New Zealand media”.”

Who does this guy think he is? I think Zimbabwe might be a better place for him.

What an embarrassment for NZ to have him in government.

  26. Inventory2 (7,223) Says:

Sam – sadly, it can’t be enforced. The A-G had no power to require money to be repaid, nor does the Speaker. It was just left to the integrity of the parties, and their perception of how much the fallout would affect them. On that count, Peters has greatly underestimated the mood of the electorate.

  27. peterquixote (231) Says:

I been always telling you NAT that the Winston wedge is still there. Electoral finance is a rat nest as you know. Winston says theirs spending was legal and here he protest. Its news farrar. Yous NAT got to be careful there a lot of water under the bridge yet them ACT people [ Buscowen and others] spent a lot of money on this issue and for what,
    and TMC
down here in Christchurch the Press dominates our political thoughts and i can prove it,

  28. Inventory2 (7,223) Says:

peter – is your first language something other than English?

  29. Adolf Fiinkensein (2,151) Says:

IV2 – he has a masters degree in Gibberish, which of course is the national language of Gibralter.

  32. baxter (893) Says:

I would have thought that the distribution of this money would amount to an illegal election bribe, though I confess ignorance of the law.

  33. Rex Widerstrom (4,529) Says:

Thank goodness for the Germans. If they hadn’t invented “schadenfreude” I’d have no word to describe my emotions.

But there’s also a part of me that thinks back to the many, many fine people who were drawn to this party when it began in 1993 and in the subsequent few years, who genuinely upheld the principles on which it was founded. For them – and the good people, embodied in George Groombridge, who are still hanging on hoping this is some sort of bad dream – I feel genuine sadness.

Such promise… sacrificed at the altar of egos of first Michael Laws and then Winston Peters.

  34. reid (9,988) Says:

You want a good April Fool’s joke: look at this video (long).

  35. mara (333) Says:

Winston Peters is “mentally compromised” and the fact that he remains an MP in NZ causes me some embarrassment. One expects this stuff in Crapistan but not NZ. I have some sympathy for his associates, but not much. A couple of the brighter(or windier ones) have bailed out. The others are so keen on “pay for nothing jobs” that they could only be shifted by a ton of kryptonite, delivered anally.Do we have any decent journalists in NZ? Where do they hide?

  36. Oscars Grouchy Mum (83) Says:

Maybe someone should offer to open a Fox network franchise in NZ – finally have a network that caters to the right.

  37. Lee C (4,120) Says:

“But he attacked the media for its interest in the issue saying “perhaps it is time to review the rules governing overseas ownership of the New Zealand media”.” ”

Don’t laugh bro. This time last year you might have said the same thing about the EFA. Personally, I’ve always said that the logical next step of the EFA is to ‘reform’ the press during elections. So like I say – it’s too soon to laugh…

  38. Brian (Shadowfoot) (71) Says:

I want to do this. I’ll tell the IRD that I’ve given secret donations to charities and that I expect to get a good tax refund.
