This is the photo that greeted most of Australia over breakfast. Yes that is a 19 year old Pauline Hanson.
PAULINE Hanson’s political comeback has been derailed with the emergence of nude photographs taken 30 years ago by a boyfriend she met in a Brisbane shop.
The photographs were taken in the mid-1970s and show Hanson, who was roughly 19 at the time, posing seductively in various states of undress.
Hanson is a politician I have only contempt for. However no-one deserves to have their 30 year old intimate photos published publicly.
The boyfriend who took the shots is a former army commando now living in Sydney on a supplementary disability pension and struggling to repay debts incurred from bone cancer treatment.
Jack Johnson, 52, spent 18 years in the army and met the young Hanson when she worked in a Brisbane grocery shop.
Presumably this was before the famous fish and chips shop?
Hanson is currently campaigning in a Queensland by-election and her former campaign manager has warned she may even be behind the release herself as a publicity stunt.

[DPF: Firstly you miss the point that my criticism is aimed at the person who released the photos. I'm not criticising the media for publishing them.
As it happens I would not publish them if they were given to me only. But when every newspaper in Australia has then on the front page, my publishing them here does no additional harm (well apart from upsetting breakfasts for people).]

goodgod – I had a look at that pic and I am wondering if this is a photoshop. It was supposedly taken in the 70s. How many girls back in the 70s shaved their pubes? Maybe Coffs Harbour was more cosmopolitan than Mount Maunganui in the 70s but I seem to remember lots of hair.

Apparently the resort where these photos were taken did not open until 1986. Hanson has pointed out that in 1975 she had already had two kids – she was married on 1971. I think these are not her. Looks like the media did their usual bang-up job of verifying things. Those photos do not look like a woman who was married at 17 and had two kids. Let alone the lack of bush and the somewhat androgenous look of the ‘girl’.
Of course, Murray is going to point out that when I first saw the pic I said I’d give her one. All i can say in my defence is any port in a storm.

One way to settle whether the photographs are genuine or are Photoshop fakes would be for the person who supplied them to the newspaper to produce the negatives. Electronic cameras weren’t in vogue when the alleged Hanson photographs are supposed to have been taken.
Surely the newspaper would have asked to see the negatives. The paper says it checked the photographs “pixel by pixel”. It would say that. My old newspaper boozing acquaintances’ adage “don’t let the facts get in the way of a good story”, or more crudely “fuck the facts, get the story”, probably applies to photographs when such sensational ones are offered to a Sydney tabloid.
If the seller of the photographs can’t produce negatives, then it will likely boil down to what the jury in the libel trial believes: the negatives were genuinely lost or there never were any.
