NZPA on Hodgson

November 10th, 2010 at 5:45 pm by David Farrar

NZPA report:

A spokeswoman for Mrs Wong told NZPA yesterday the minister had sought Cabinet Office advice and had not done anything wrong.

“That advice is that there’s nothing wrong with witnessing a document as she did,” the spokeswoman said.

“The Cabinet Manual wasn’t breached, nor was anything else. It’s Pete Hodgson once again trying to muckrake and smear and it shows Labour isn’t focused on the issues that matter.”

That’s the official response. And the unofficial response:

Prime Minister John Key’s chief press secretary, Kevin Taylor, put it more bluntly when he reportedly told Radio New Zealand Mr Hodgson was a “f…wit” — a comment Mr Hodgson later said was not helpful or accurate.

Well I agree with Pete Hodgson, that the comment wasn’t helpful.

pongo …….. the well is dry
smears – all that is left …… although this effort was soooo feeble.
it is the dance of the desperates or as gazzm points out the dance of the hopelessly embarassing middle-aged man trying to be relevant …… which is sums up labour.

But very accurate – Gollum is one angry and pathetic person. And as Danyl Mclauchlan says [on Red Alert]:

Kevin should send Pete Hodgson some flowers; these endless clumsy smears just make the opposition look desperate and weak, which is supposed to be KT’s job.

I’m still undecided about how much ‘wit’ came into play . . . , but I broadly agree with the sentiment, even if it is a rather unprofessional sort of comment to make..

Chris Carter sought approval for his travel, it was granted, and therefore he did nothing wrong. But it was politically stupid. Hmmm…..

Rather ironic that Hodgson views the fuckwit comment as not helpful or accurate when it appears his
attack falls into the same category.

I was wondering if he ever did apologise for assaulting Madeline, then I thought I’d google up an answer. Seems he claimed he would, but then turned around and said that she made him do it to make the Dunedin MPs look bad (probably would blame her for DBP’s troubles too if he had half a chance.)

Shit a brick whats wrong with calling that two bob a fuck wit. It’s about time this government got a bit rural and called these tossers out for what they are. I know we are all suppose to be civilised, as far as I’m concerned political correctness and the fear that we may transgress in our language will bring down damnation, this has turned us into pussy, fart arsed wimps. The man is a fucking lefty lunatic and his politics and his hairy arsed mates are total fuck wits.

Whenever Hodgson speaks, it results in automatic attention shutdown, such is his integrity and honesty etc. Yaawwnnn.

How does one get hold of those people, that for some reason like stealing garden gnomes, taking them overseas and sending back the pictures of them at various locations to the owner? Maybe Pete could do us all a favour and get lucky and go away on an extended trip – one way no return unless the picture postcards sent back raise enough money from Labour Party supporters to bring him back again?

I’m actually being kind to Uncl’ Pete, I could imagine him in a hawaiian shirt, sunnies and holding up a glass of chardonney to the camera, with a speech bubble “up yours too Phil”, somewhere exotic by the beach. I’m sure Pete might actually get to like a nicer way of life in his retirement years – I’m bloody sure he could afford it unlike us suffering taxpayers :-)

Is he still an MP? Bugger me. When he speaks I’m always reminded of a marshmallow wobbling on a plate. Don’t quite know why, but his breathless pontifications catch me with the force of an 80 year old’s wheeze before a hacking phlegm episode. Zzzzz Labour Zzzzzz.

It certainly is unhelpful of Kevin Taylor to offer an accurate and blunt assessment of parliamentarians. Political spin things telling the truth is a most undesirable precedent.

It’s getting pretty bad when a leader is using words like fuckwit. Kids are suppose to look up to these people. Although I agree with him, maybe more descriptive words like “confused” , “moronic”, but come on guys, swearing in a leadership role lowers the bar.

Why does Hodgson keep doing this? Do Labour think that if they use him to mount sleaze type attacks, Labour won’t be tarnished? Or does he enjoy it? I mean, it would be different if there was any substance to this stuff, but there never is.

    From Not PC 2005:

The Hodgson incident [man-handling Madeleine Flannagan] is more sinister because it was done in cold blood to censor the protest and Hodgson refused to release her when asked. It seems that Mr Hodgson targeted the women after he was upset by the release of tennis balls alluding to his colleague Mr Benson-Pope.

Pete, also a former secondary school teacher, and Mr. Tennis-Ball-Mouth-Stuffer couldn’t, and it appears in Pete’s case, still can’t grasp the very basic concept of ‘when it’s not a good idea to lie’. Saying KT’s comment was not “helpful or accurate” was certainly one of these moments. I found it extremely helpful to my psychological wellbeing today, and entirely accurate.

As George Bernard Shaw once said: Those that can do; those that can’t teach.

The conundrum in Pete’s argument is how does a politician describe their profession on any legal document. For instance do you describe yourself as a politician or as a M.P. .Other interpretations offered on this thread include F.W. tossers and wimps.
    We so love our politicians.

I too thought at the time that Hodgson had lost the plot with those questions. But seems there is much more to the story:

The Prime Minister’s office has confirmed it is investigating the use of Ethnic Affairs Minister Pansy Wong’s travel perk for a trip to China last year.

Documents show she signed herself as a witness to a business deal of her husband’s that later turned sour.

Wong has confirmed that she used her parliamentary travel perk to pay for her tickets but both she and the prime minister’s office are refusing to say whether she also used the perk to pay for her husband’s travel.

But Wong’s office insisted last night that the purpose of the trip to China was a holiday, which is allowed under Parliament’s rules.

Lawyers’ letters show the business deal went sour and Lianyungang Supreme Hovercraft is being pursued for $800,000 in royalties and other entitlements.

On current prices, a ticket to China can cost between $2500 and $5000-plus one way when flying business class.

A spokeswoman for Wong said last night she assumed that her husband flew to China with her on the travel perk as well as he was entitled to it, but she was unable to confirm that despite several requests.
