Two good political resources Add this story to Scoopit!.

Congrats to Fairfax and Keith Ng for this graphical interface of their poll results. You can see the responses to six different questions broken down by seven possible splits.  This sets the bar for poll reporting.

The second resource is from the Guardian. It shows from 1972 to 2011 the countries of the EU and whether their Government is left-wing or right-wing. I had not realised until I saw their graphic, how massively centre-right Europe currently is.

Only six Governments are left-wing, and 21 are right-wing. Europe has never been so blue.

Too bad Fairfax let this little doozy through the quality control net:

Since when was 12% a quarter of anything?

Nor has it ever been in so much of a debt crisis!

Ha ha ha ha The Guardian would consider Phil freakin Goff right wing

    “Two good political resources……..”

When a “right wing ” blog calls the Guardian a “good Political resource” you know how the far left the “right” has been drawn.

The same thing applies to the EU. The Christian Democrats of post war Europe would probably consider their modern equivalents as raging socialists……..and rightly too.

The good thing is more greens are leaving
can we call this a lentil drain or is it a mental drain

Re the first resource – notice how no one who intends voting National in the election would prefer Goff as PM – yet 16% of those who intend to vote labour would actually prefer Key as PM!!?!

What does that say for the so-called leader of the opposition?

[DPF: And of those who voted Labour in 2008, more prefer Key than Goff for PM]

Everything is to the right of the Guardian. That they couldn’t jig the criteria to depict all of Europe as right wing must be a source of shame for their academic cardigan wearers who pass as journalists.

@stroker08. Following the first link has different results – choose “Age” and “Plan to stay in NZ”. Shows 21% “maybe” and 3.3% definitely moving overseas.

I think that’s not unexpected and isn’t a reflection the Government. Young people are more likely to travel. I’ve travelled far more than my parents, and I’m certainly not unique amongst my friends. As you age you get more ties – finding a partner, having kids, etc.

At 20 there was nothing in particular keeping me in NZ (except for a job) and the thought of exploring the world was very attractive to me. I would’ve definitely been a “Maybe”. A few years on, I’m now married, which would make it a bit less likely. By the time I’m 35 I’ll probably have kids, and be even more unlikely to move.

    I am with Kowtow
I will email this to my family in Europe.
According to the Guardianistas they have a ‘right wing’ government.
    They need a good laugh.

‘Right wing’ is probably just decided on by whether the government is the current ‘right’ or ‘left’ for that country. Going through every government’s major policy initiatives in order to declare whether a government is a ‘true’ left/right government sounds more like a political science project that would take more than a little while.

I had a chuckle at the NZ First polling by age.

Under 35 years of age: Didn’t even register.

    35-60: 0.9%

    60+: 6.6%.

So their voting base is getting bigger – if WP stays alive for another 100-150 years (not out of the question) he can probably plan to crown himself emperor in 2140 or so.

    I’m with Kowtow too.
just like here with National heart being centre left/left of centre depending on the issues, so it is in Europe possibly more so.
    good laugh though DPF

Question: In that election poll, why is ‘Health & Education’ treated as a single issue instead of separately? Of course if you put the two together it is going to be the largest. Slack polling IMO, especially when KiwiSaver, Taxes, State Assets and Cost of Living are all treated separately from ‘Economy’.

Well what does that tell us?

That key is seen in their eyes as a safe socialist.

That visualisation is pure Javascript – no Flash required. It’ll run on your iPad (but might be a tad slow).
